I was wondering why there is only like 1 room for att note 3 . I look at sprint and Verizon and there are all kinds of roms . Is there a reason for this ? I have been rooting all my phones for over 5 6 yrs now . I would love to unleash the beast in this phone . Answers please ...

Because unlike those other guys AT&T chose to have Samsung lock the boot loader to keep rouge software off of their network. Even though there are countless other brands and models on their network running custom ROMS. Seems they want to set a standard of security with this phone and make it safe for corporate users.

Maybe because we literally just got safestrap? Not to fear though, the t mobile roms work. I have latest xnote on my stock slot and jedi on slot 1

Root question(s)

There's a lot of info floating around out there so I figured I'd try to set the record straight. And I can't be the only ones with these questions, so it might be good to have the answers all in one place.
From what I understand, the root for the note 3 on other carriers is working, even though some are still listed as untested. What would happen if one was to try the procedure on the at&t variant?
Next question is more of just a general outlook for the rooting future of this device. Is it looking like its doable, a hell of a challenge, or just plain impossible?

At&t Note III...& At&t G Pro
Same goes for the Rogers Wireless SM-N900W8 version in Canada... Usually anything that works for the AT&T perks for us so I'm just waiting....

From everything that I have read over the past couple of days AT&T has a locked bootloader. The TMobile version doesn't have one. The reason why root works for it is because it flashes a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP and then roots it from there. That is not possible with a locked bootloader. I would rather get the TMobile version of the Note 3 and just SIM unlock it and use it on AT&T but coming up with $700+ dollars is not an option for me. So I can only hope an exploit is found for the AT&T version.

There will always be a workaround. The phones only been out a little while so it's always best to wait and be patient. Yeah it sucks but early stuff can be unstable. No matter how hard it gets lock down it's not going to be "unlockable". It's just a matter of how much work it's going to take to unlock it.
Well its pretty much going 2 be a hell of a challenge. I'm coming from att Galaxy S4 & it has been crazy over there as far as this bootloader locking with att. U do have root but things haven't been easy by no means so I'm sure it'll be no easier with this device, if not more difficult. But hey I'm optimistic, if we can just get root I'll be happy...

I find the loki recovery to be easy on the S4.. remember Sprint and Verizon also will have lock bootloaders.
I doubt the two largest networks (Vzw, AT&T) will be left in the dirt.

Everyone thought the same about the S4 with the mf3 update then it got rooted with safestrap to load roms. Everyone thought you couldn't reverse it but it is now reversible. There is even a one click app to root it. Just give it some time.

Cf-auto-root does not flash a custom recovery. It just roots.

Taking s5 back... Note 3 or...

Should I get the note 3 or wait for the note 4 to come out end of this year? What are some suggestions here? I can't stand this phone anymore... No root really sucks
Dude, no root is due to locked bootloader and the fact that all current exploits are for 4.3 and below. If you get a non carrier S5 now thats awesome. Good luck though. I bet the N4 is going to be a killer

note 3 on the last version of 4.3, and all on 4.4.2 are not rooted.
you can basically count on all Samsung carrier phones on ATT and VZW being locked and non rootable.
My wife has note 3 and it has locked bootloader and knoxed up. She's running stock 4.4.2 TW on it.

Yes, new AT&T Note 3 owners with Kitkat are in the same boat as the S5, but there is this. You could also do the same thing with the S5. Unlocked..root...freedom...
There is a sticky to discuss other devices
Please use that
Thanks

When will we be able to root note 3 running 4.4.2

If there is not a chance of rooting or putting a custom rom on my note 3 then what's the purpose of even having this thing. It's nice but my note 2 has much more options as far as putting a custom rom on it. What has Samsung done? Are they in competition with HTC as far as locking us out of our own devices that we pay several hundreds of dollars for. I figured 1 of these devs would have already had this figured out and if they can't then we are pretty screwed

If you did your research you'd find that root is available and that you can install custom roms via safestrap.
Also Samsung isn't the one limiting the note 3 by locking the bootloader. It's at&t. Don't be hatin on Samsung.
root it right now go to www.towelroot.com and than download superuser..... it works flawlessley

S5 Active Roms

Does anyone know of any other Roms that may possibly work on s5 active? Don't mean to gripe or complain but active only has like 4 Roms and of those Roms only one has an updated version. I like this phone but was thinking of getting rid of it to get a Note 4. There are so many Roms for other Samsung phones and S5 active is getting left out. Does anyone know of other Roms that may work? Just tired of seeing the same ones.

S5 active is pretty specific and with locked BL only TouchWiz roms work and only unity and DK offer cross compatible roms at this point

Tmobile

Good morning guys. I just made the jump from AT&T and I was wondering does tmobile update their phones for the life of the device or like AT&T does that they update phones 3 times then concentrate on newer devices? Please let me know. Thanks in advance

"...they update phones 3 times then concentrate on newer devices..."
Sad but true. The Note 2 I recently sold was still stuck on Jelly Bean and Note 2 owners were promised KitKat from T-Mobile, never received the update. And now there is no news of Lollipop for the T-Mobile Note 2.
I had the AT&T Note 4, but returned it, mainly due to the fact that it was not developer-support. Because I'm on the JUMP! Program, I'll most likely end up changing my device every 6-8 months or so, therefore the update schedule doesn't and shouldn't hurt me anymore.

Thanks for the reply man. It's messed up the American companies do this. The international versions of the phone that we stopped receiving updates for here in the u.s are still receiving updates internationally. Even though I switched from AT&T cause I'm tired of locked bootloaders. I think if you own a device you should have the freedom to do with it as you please. ?

Take that statement to the Supreme Court. FCC needs to look over this, in addition to Net Neutrality, haha.

who says you cant "do with it as you please"
you just wont get carrier provided updates after awhile, but you are free to do anything you want to your phone, you just have to deal with the consequences if you break/ruin/brick it..
