[Q] Problems with Ace and Stock ROM - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ever since I got the Ace, it has had problems with locking up or sometimes spontaneous reboots. This happened with stock roms and with all of the various CM/custom roms I have tried.
I do not run loads of apps, no facebook, or other stuff syncing in the background except exchange email. I do, however, usually run link2sd since some apps (like browsers and kingsoft office) are too big.
My question is if this is "normal" for this phone, or if the phone is actually crap? What are your experiences?
I thought at one stage it was the SD card so but I bought a new card, checked it thoroughly but still have the same problems with freezing or rebooting. Could the internal storage be broken/have bad blocks?

I can tell you right now random reboots on stock ROM are not normal. The phone is a low end device, but has plenty of Dev support to make it better. Also you should post questions like these in the q&a section, as its not Dev related.

Try to flash a fresh stock rom through Samsung kies or Odin.
And I suggest not to use link2sd, I recommend use cronmod int2ext..

G2x Won't Download Apps from Market

This is due to Google Talk Authentication Error which is annoying the hell out of me.
I literally did everything: flashed a fresh stock rom, factory reset, it started working for maybe 10 minutes but now it stopped and I it won't sign into Gtalk and therefore I can't download apps. What the hell? Can anyone please help meh?
Is your phone time and date correct?

Cleared the data cache in settings> applications for market and download manager?

Yes, I did. Basically, Gtalk signs in and stays that way if I take out the sim but when I put it back in it says Google Talk Authentication Error or something like that not even 3 minutes after turning the phone back on.
I want to mention that this is stock firmware 2.2.
Update: I get Google Talk Authentication Error without the SIM in the phone as well.. It just refuses to sign in some time after I turn on da fone.
Same problem here, even after flashing fresh rom......
there is this authentication error popup, saying something about chatservice has to be turned on......weird
tried everything!
Change SD card or format it..there were so many people hv the same issue. And so many suggestion..i tried everything that was suggested, and lastly i format my SD card..so far it works fine after 2wks..another common issue is people who use SD 16gb or more class 6 n above curiously have this issue..but most 8gb users seems fine.
Fixed by pulling out the similar and forcing gtalk to log in thru wick, then put similar back in and it works.
I meant sim, damn autocorreccltion

[Q] Does leaked update fix apps dissapearing from "Media"?

So after moving apps to the media area, the internal storage on my phone, most of the apps dissapeared. Other websites have talked about this, but I see nothing on XDA. Is this fixed by the leaked OTA?

Its the way the OS works...you dismount a drive and anything on that drive will no longer be available (disappear). This occurs when you plug into the PC and the phone unmounts storage so the PC can mount it. Force close your launcher or if possible, restart it (launcher pro gives this option) once the storage is unmounted from the PC and remounted to the phone.

Actually...I'm having the same problem. Even when the media area isn't mounted on the PC (I make sure it's mounted in Android). Doesn't bother me too much, because my apps don't take up much space. The strange part is that not all of the apps in the media area are disappearing, only some.

Same. Things will dissapear even though I never plug it into the computer. Other forums have said this is a common problem, I'll post a link when I'm experienced enough to
Has anyone installed the update, and can give a status report on this issue?
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk
Haven't experienced this as an issue on any droid phone, but it's probably common because alot of ppl are plugging in their phones to their computers and thus losing access to apps on SD.
As with what tcrews advised, it's the way the Os works - If this persists simply restart your phone/launcher, could be a faulty SD card swapping out the card would help.
We have so much space to use on the apps partition as it is tho so i'd recommend moving any apps that install to sd/media back to the phone to reduce issues.

I appreciate the advice, but I'm afraid no one is getting at the real issue. Since the OP, I moved a dozen apps over to test and half have dissappeared. No computer, no mounting or remounting, just one restart.
Please, this post is about the update. From other forums I believe this is droid 3 specific, and I would like to know if this was fixed. I have a lot of apps.

After some research, I see the issue everyone else is getting at. My problem is not the launcher shortcuts or the app drawer. In settings > applications > manage applications, the app disappears, and all that is left is the namespace, which I assume is just a link to the data on the internal storage. But I need to redownload the app before it works.
Has anyone who flashed the update experienced this, not experienced?

[Q] USB connectivity and charging problems

I am using an unrooted captivate and whenever i connect my phone to anything via usb whether it be a computer or simply charging my phone goes haywire. something about tethering manager pops up and until I force close it (2x) the phone freezes and forces me to do battery pulls. How do I fix this without rooting and flashing a custom rom if possible?
Any help would be appreciated

I cant its a system app
Sent from my X10i using XDA
Have you tried setting the default action when the USB is plugged in? I use ICS now so I can't look on my phone but I think it is under "Wireless and network settings". Maybe try setting the default to "Mass Storage"
thanks, i tried that along with deleting the apps' data and cache. it worked for a while but the phone still has problems. these all started when i did the at&t update to 2.3.7. i'm giving in and rooting and flashing a custom rom. any suggestions a stable one i could use as a daily driver.
You could try the one called Simply Stock. It is stock with a few system tweaks thrown in. Or you go try Legend which is very stable (my personal favorite right now). I think you'll find either of the choices to be sufficient as a daily driver.
will flashing erase my internal sd card, cancel that i just put the files i needed to flash in the wrong folder. i'm in cwm but that's it. i can't do anything else. what do i do?
att software has lots of bugs and stupid stuff wrong with it. my phone was acting so wild on any 2.3 ROM, I've upgraded to CyanogenMod9 then to Slim ICS. my phone is so much smoother and waaaaayyyy faster.
I used to be like you, i didn't want to bother with rooting and installing roms and stuff, but I'm so glad i did it. it's made life with the captivate so much easier.
a few general guidelines, you can always use one click back to stock programs, like odin one click to stock. so you can always go backwards and start over again.
Do you have root? if you don't get rooted.
Upgrade to a better rom, one that isn't based on samsung's touchwiz preferably.
ICS seems scary at first, but it's really worth it.
if you would like more instructions for getting ICS let me know because i've written a long explanation somewhere else.
I hope i can help you fix your problems, but i need more info
This may be a moot point now but do you have any software for tethering installed on the computer side? Often the computer side software of my computer will force the phone to pop-up the tethering program. Usually it is a setting within the computer client.

Spotify not recognizing internal storage anymore

For some strange reason, Spotify no longer seems to recognize my phone's internal storage. I'm unable to listen to the radio and the following error pops up: 'No SD Card Found: We found no place to store our data, please check that you have a working SD card and free space". This started occurring after I upgraded to Mike's ARHD 10 (and remained after I upgraded again to 10.1). I tried Googling the issue, but couldn't find a single instance of anyone facing a similar problem. I'm fairly certain the rom is not to blame since no one else mentioned anything related to this--plus, the rom has been awesome thus far (just like Mike's earlier versions). I tried fixing permissions, and even re-installing rom after performing a full wipe. I also should mention that after uninstalling then re-installing Spotify, the app seems to run fine for a little while--but the error will rear its ugly head again after I try to open the app again at a later time . Also, I am able to access my internal SD card without a problem via ES File Explorer and everything looks about right when I go to Settings > Storage.
Any help would be appreciated
I get the same message when trying to start Spotify on my stock Gnexus. All other apps using internal storage works fine.
I have now uninstalled and reinstalled Spotify and for now it works fine, but I have to download all offline lists again

Thanks for the response. I started to receive this error (fairly recently) when I installed or updated my current rom. I got tired of having to keep re-installing the Spotify app, so eventually I went into Settings and decided to 'Delete cache and saved data' for the heck of it. This might not exactly be a feasible option for those who have a paid subscription and actual saved data, but I have yet to receive the same error again. :highfive:

Same issue here on my S4 (found this thread through the Spotify community... funny how us XDA members always end up troubleshooting products, lol). I was on Slimbean and thought it was the rom. Restored my stock Nandroid and got the same error a few hours later. Apparently, this will happen again later. Just wanted to chime in with my experience.
Same on HTC One. Put Sentinel rom on over the weekend, re-downloaded all my playlists and it worked fine on Monday...this morning, get the SD card message.
I was looking at where all my space was last night since I put Sentinel on and there was about 1.5gb in a Spotify folder under sdcard/data...the folder has gone.
I will re-install Spotify and see what happens.

It's been my experience in my past two and a half years here at XDA that the developers of ROMs and homebrew usually find a solution before the actual app developers do. In this case, there was a thread in the spotify support forum. That led me here. *shrug* it's how we do.

I come to XDA to find workarounds but when I pay (subscribe to) for something I expect the devs to work on a solution, I think the people working at spotify would like to hear about your problem too, because you can help them but many other people would just give up on them...
I had a problem too and contacted them, they are friendly and responsive

I always go directly to them. And I did. However, posting in multiple places never hurts. if you read my original post, you would see I found this thread from the Spotify support threads.

Spotify has many issues with android and the sd card error problem,i personally read the spotify forums and there are hundreds if not thousands having the same error spotify really should get there act together and fix this after all it is a paid service and you should be getting what you pay for.
What i did was put a new sd card in formatted it using the phone and kept spotify out, everything worked fine,so my advice for now would be to avoid spotify at all costs as you lose everything thats on the card as well ,at least until they fix this bug,of which we are all having to pay for

[Q] need advice on best way tobackup stock-nonrooted phone

Hey everyone,
I got a Note 4 when they first came out and have been having a lot of issues with it every since. At first it was just signal issues where i was missing calls/voice mails, texts, etc, especially compared to my Note 3. I think started having issues with my phone freezing, heating up, etc. I am thinking about restarting my phone and reloading programs to see if things get better. My problem is that i still have my phone stock and non-rooted due to needing Knox for work. Any programs that you can recommend that i can backup my apps and its data? I am used to using TB for my rooted phone but i am not sure what i can use for a non rooted phone. I basically trying to reload my apps (side loaded and ones i got from the playstore) but also not lose data if i can help it.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

So without root, there is not a way to backup apps and their data?
This thread talks about that:
http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/28296/full-backup-of-non-rooted-devices
I use an app called Helium Premium by ClockworkMod, which works great for saving apps and data on unrooted phones. I recommend it highly.
I second the recommendation of Helium. It is about the only way to back up all app data without rooting. You do need to hook the phone up to a computer to enable it. The free version can back up to SD, but the paid version will backup to cloud drives like Dropbox. You can also go straight from one phone to another.
