Whatsapp and Active Display on 4.4 - Moto X Q&A

Guys, Kit Kat is running smoothly here. The only thing that is bothering me a little is that after the update, when I access a notification from Whatsapp on Active Display it goes to the top of the chat, not on the bottom like it was previously. Anyone else with this little issue?

Since you use whatsapp, can you check something else for me. Can you send a voice message to someone through whatsapp and check the volume of the message. On the MotoX I find the recording volume is very low compared to Galaxy S3 or HTC sensation. I was wondering if this was an issue with all MotoX s or if my phone is defective.

It's not a bug in your device. I have the same issue in my Moto X XT1058 both in 4.2.2. and 4.4 stock, no unlocked bootloader, no fancy kernels, NADA.
Looks like Whatsapp is either using the wrong mic, or it's setting its recording volume waaaay too low

This is actually true on all recording apps. its like an over compensation of noise cancelation. If you use the app Hi Q mp3 it will be very low. But if you change the mic setting to RAW its loud but a lot of background noise.

Notifications Interrupt Music playback

Ever since the 4.2.1 update I've noticed an extremely obnoxious issue when listening to music. Texts and other notifications interrupt the music when using headphones or even the speaker. What's more annoying is that traditionally (this holds true on all android phones and iPhones I've ever owned) one simply puts the phone in either vibrate or silent mode and no more notifications interrupting your music. In Jelly Bean, it seems they forgot to implement this. Regardless of what sound profile I am in, silent, vibrate or normal my text tone comes through my headphones and interrupts the music.
Does anyone know a good way to fix this issue? Maybe a settings option I missed? Disabling text notifications ever time I listen to music would be a little ridiculous. I text while I listen to music all the time and it's highly annoying.
Easy, switch to airplane mode.

you don't need the music to stop to know a text has come in, as the OP said he wants a constructive fix for his issue not senseless comments which don't help the issue.
I would like to second the OP's Request, I have had this issue since ICS 4.0.4 where any notification will pause the music for a couple of seconds, this has been the HARDEST thing to get used to from my past life as devoted iPhone user. it is very frustrating, and I've noticed that I don't believe its OS related, but actually the individual application which deals with how the notifications interrupt.
Any help would be appreciated.

Yes it's definitely not OS related, Its the way Sony handles it I guess.

I believe that Spotify does pause the music, along with the Walkman app, but I seam to remember a more niche player just lowering the volume for notifications.
unfortunately I don't believe this is something we as a community can fix, other than to recommend your application maker to update their app.

Which Xperia are you using? If it really becomes too big an issue, there is always the option of rooting and using a different ROM.

I'm using the T. But I have yet to use Poweramp and test it because it has a separate setting for notification focus. Yes I think a CM rom might fix it. But as of now I don't want CM coz stock is way better.

[Q] Touchless Control

Hey everyone, I just recently made the switch to the Moto X and I love it. One of my favorite features is definitely touchless control. Unless I'm mistaken it's only supposed to respond to my voice yet after several attempts to train it to my voice it will still respond to other people's voice and even sometimes to ambient noise such as the TV.
Strange thing is a coworker of mine also has a Moto X, (it responds to his voice almost every time) yet his voice won't respond to me. Anyone else getting this issue? It's certainly not make or break but it's kinda annoying.

Does it do it very often? Did you train the phone in a quiet room? Mine does it every once in a while but not often at all. I trained it with no ambient noise. Very rarely will someone else make it wake up but I read if you train it in a loud room or once with a lot of ambient noise, you may have a problem.
My Moto X at first was perfect.. then i wiped it clean after i upgraded to 4.4 and re-trained my voice. and then it started picking up everyone elses voices and recognizing them as commands as well. I locked myself in the closet and retrained my voice a couple of times. now it's perfect once again. give that a try!

notifications just vibrates (im not in interruptions mode), they were working before,
and when someone calls me, i cant hear them, but they can hear me. Speakers aren't broken, they work, at least in multimedia (music, games, videos)
i have rebooted the phone, and the problem don't disappears

Dont solved the problem... So i have same problem. Iam on 5.0.2 and here is my info--->
I just got my Moto G and i have a weird sound problem. Every ringtone and notification start to ring really quiet, then after a second volume increases to maximum. I can't see in settings to enable or disable this feature. The problem is especially with notifications as they don't last more than a second so they never get a chance to increase in volume. Can anybody confirm this problem so I would know should I ask for a replacement? Thanks...

It is NOT a bug. It is a feature by Motorola. Called Ascending ringtone.

Ahh yes, this problem. I got it when I installed Viper4Android. Had something to do with SELinux.
Assuming you are rooted, all you need to do is reflash whatever sound mod you've installed and set SELinux to permissive.
Assuming you are on stock unrooted, it might be a bad system image file. Reflash the ROM.
Problem solved, just a few reboots after the bug

Nexus 6 low sound notifications

Hey all, I recently bought a Nexus 6 and is totally stock.
I'm facing a problem with low short sound notifications, such as Facebook pop and Facebook messenger, or even SMS short notifications. Most of the time are not sounding. Some times this happens with the call ringtones too, they start at low sound and after they maximize. Anyone else has experienced it? Any fix for this?

This is a "feature" of lollipop. There are a few threads discussing it. Search this and the general forum.

Thanks for the answer. Is there any ROM without this "feature"?

Problem with short sounds.

Hey guys! So I'm always on here asking more technical questions, but I realized that I never asked about why the Nexus 6 for some reason doesn't like to play short sounds! For instance, the sounds when you like stuff and share stuff in the Facebook app, or the ding sound from Facebook Messenger. As well as other short sounds. Is this just mine? Or does this phone just do that? Thanks again guys!
I have the same thing happen on my phone. When it receives a notification, sometimes the first 1/4 second or so is very low in volume and then the sound picks up to a normal level. Weird for sure.
Then I'm not the only one, it's weird and I wonder if it's a software bug or even supposed to be a software feature! Lots of times, if it's a short sound, the phone just vibrates and skips the sound altogether!

Same here...
Yep me too, intermittently, on Cataclysm suspect it's an M issue.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Might not be the same issue but I found the same thing with ringtones - starts out very low initially and then returns to normal volume. Not sure it is an issue inherent with M since I haven't had it happen with most of the modified M roms but did have the issue with the M versions of Cataclysm I've flashed. Also had similar issue with some L roms also.
I hate this low volume bug and have started using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ryosoftware.notificationsmanager... It works excellent.. Set up repeating notification for program ur having problems with, for me is FB messenger.. U get a simultaneous double notification sound first time and u can setup time interval for re-notification... Free version you can pick just one app, but paid version unlimited apps and I think was like $2 bucks or so... Well worth it... Hopefully helps someone... Flash safe lol

Some of these half sounds are freaky!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this has been an issue since this phone was released. It has been for me, at least. Every sound starts off very quiet and increases to normal after a second or two. I hated it at first but I've learned to live with it.

I've had it since I got the phone on 5.0.1 yea and still happens today.
Yea, this phone has always done this. Definitely not a Marshmallow issue.
Sent from my Nexus 6
So. Is there absolutely no solutions for this? I recently switched from SlimLP to stock Marshmallow and now I keep missing notifications since the sound is sometimes basically inaudible. I didn't have any problems with notification or any other volumes with SlimLP. Kinda sucks how switching back to stock broke such an essential feature especially since stock doesn't have notification LED either.
Nexus 6 have 3 main audio issues;
1- Volume normalization for certain frequencies. Some songs are really loud(funky, pop types), some are just fading suddenly(rock or metallic), just try to use a good equalizer program or viper.
2- Voltage dependent volume lowering. This is an issue with amplifier chipset, some kernels are disabling them(blu-spark, hellscore etc) but at very low voltages it is still effective.
3-Ascending sound. This is what causes notification sound problems. Actually this can be experienced all android system sounds and lots of apps that use them(whatsapp message send click, keyboard clicks, notificaitions etc.). Only way to solve it for now is to use another program for notifications. I'm using lightflow for led configuration and some notificaiton sounds like whatsapp, facebook messenger. You just need to switch volume control in notification settings to lightflow volume control, also you must disable original sounds to none. It is not a good solution, yes and I hate dropping google keyboard sounds but for now it is te only way .
Definitely this issue wasn't on L stock Rom, after upgrading to M stock Rom, my notification went to hell.
---------- Post added at 09:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:41 PM ----------
Can you tell how u set lightflow for Facebook messenger? I set it up and still issue persist with messages, did I just waste £2.00?
