Need help with moto X screen issue - Moto X Q&A

Greetings form Greece,
Need your help
After several weeks of waiting my moto X came today form US. Was so happy to have such a unique custom device!!
Once i got it from my US based friend I entred my local carrier shop to get a nano-sim, opened the box and inserted the sim to get moto X woriking.
Seconds after I left the shop the phone accidentaly fell to the pavement. I saw two small dents in the side corners and got really sad I did this to my new device.
However soon i realized that the problem was much bigger. My screen went totaly black!
There is no sign of damage or anything, just a small dent in the plastic bezel.
I am sure the phone is working, I hear sounds of booting and shutting down and I feel vibrations from the the digitizer touch.
The screen shows only some green pixels on the botom right corner.
I am really sad
Do i need a new screen or it is smth with a cable connection?
Is it reasonable for the device to be ruined form a 2 feet drop?
I am will not find any spare parts in Greece/Europe. Shall I send to my local Motorola service repair to check?
Any other memeber with similar issues.?
Please help!

go to motorola tech service, is the only solution, you need a new screen, or a new phone

Well, I feel bad for you, but you need to change either the screen or the entire phone.
Sent from my XT1058 using xda app-developers app

I dropped my moto twice and screen is fine

I went today to the Greek local moto repair center,
First time they saw such device, they thought it is moto G.
Awaiting a call if it is a full LCD or a cable maybe. they have no idea if Motorola will provide parts.
If it is a full LCD, how easy is for me to find the part?
I have seen some lcd parts quoting around $250, (nearly the price of the device).
It is a lovely phone, in case i don't find a solution in my country shalll i try to send it to US for repair?
is anybody willing to order and send me overseas a new?

local moto cannot do anything due to lack of spare parts.
any ideas where to get an or original screen?

I'm disgusted...

I don't want to sit here and ***** but I need to let some of this off my chest.
My gf bought me a brand new diamond from the Europe (no proof of purchase).
Now I'm not totally concerned with the battery life, speaker volume, in-call volume, etc as I know tweaks will show up for this phone slowly slowly.
My main concern that is KILLING me and I'm afraid I can't do anything about it is my screen. Its crystal clear, but I seem to have two spots at the bottom of the screen that turn yellowish on a white screen and whitish on a black screen?
Is it safe to assume I got a faulty unit and I'm pretty much stuck with it?
I'm honestly extremely furious with this, and they are not that visible unless im on certain screens but knowing that they exist simply kills me.
I have attached a picture which should give you a decent example of how it looks. Its not that visible with this shot. One blotch right above the HTC logo and the other to the very left of that.

Call HTC service/support they should do an in warranty repair. There is no need for proof of purchase because they can just warranty it off the build date. I had to do this with one of my Tilts, did not have a receipt but they repaired it under warranty for free based off the build date. It did take 2 weeks for the whole process though.
Jeff
HI,
The battery life and other tweaks are already around and they have a made a massive difference to my diamond. (latest UK rom and a few tweaks)
You should not be stuck with it... have you called HTC ? how come you have no proof of purchase ? Even so you should still be able to contact HTC give them the serial number and be able to send it back. You may have to wait while it is fixed but hey its worth it.
The only other option is to buy a new screen (about £70) and fit yourself.
I can see how it would bug you just knowing the screen issue is there, but i am sure you are not the only person to have a fault, these things do happen.
I would be interested to hear what HTC have to say.

Since youve got this device early in its life (WAAAAAAAY under a year) get in contact with HTC and they will probably just ask for the serial number from under the cover.
I returned my TyTN after around 2 months to get the screen alignment issue fixed, they didnt ask for proof of purchase even though I had it etc....so wasnt a problem.
Had this been a year later then it might be a different story
Get onto HTC about it....and be calm with them remember this sort of thing always happens with consumer electronics it is nothing personal.
No it's not very visible!
Do you need proof of purchase for a repair? It's not like it could be out of it's warranty. If you do then contact the retailer or get a bank statement.
You're not alone though. I have a small guy inside mine waving a torch at me just above the home key. He's a little sh*t, but I'm the bigger person so choose to ignore him.
I have to agree with these guys. I'm on my 3rd or 4th HTC product and I'm here to tell you that their service is SECOND TO NONE.
They are one of the few companies if you call their customer service, they actually answer the phone, speak english and resolve your problem without putting you on hold.
Call them, you shouldn't have any issues.
Mark
Wow, I already feel so much better. I mean i was so hyped up with the VGA screen with this phone but it did let me down. I hope HTC acknowledge this problem and fix it for me.
I had initially contacted HTC America for repairs and they told me to call Europe. I did but they were closed. I sent out an email to HTC europe and I'm waiting for a response. Maybe it's better if I pick up the phone and call them in person?
I will report tomorrow if anything happens in regards to this topic.
UPDATE:
I contacted HTC America and told them about my problem, and to my surprise they were extremely helpful thus far and are taking my phone in for repair.
They asked where the phone was purchased and I told them, but did not ask for a proof of purchase.
I will be sending it out tomorrow and hopefully receive it back in 2 weeks time maximum. After that, let the modding begin
+1 for HTC support - really great service.
EDIT:
Forgot to mention; First person I talked to was not able to help me out and told me to contact HTC Europe. Hung up the phone and called again and I went right through

some muppets do occasionally escape form jim hensons workshop!
Had to send mine in for repair due to the earpiece speaker had an annoying buzz at medium to high levels. Called HTC UK, told them the problem, they said they can repair it no problem, they sent an UPS delivery driver to collect my phone from my house. They received it next day.
Took about 10 days in repair but came back today well packed in a small box, gave it a good test and it now works perfectly .
When I received it back they left the test rom, radio and boot screen on it and wiped the internal storage. Made a backup before I sent it though .
First repair I have sent to HTC as usually all my HTC phones I have are through Orange UK and if I have any faults, they send out a replacement handset in less than 24hrs to the door, driver gives me new phone and I give them the faulty one .
For excellent customer service I give HTC a 10 out of 10
So maybe I should wait a couple more weeks before I send it in. Then there is a possibility of a replacement with a working US 3G version

replacement screen and case?

Hey, I'm curious to know if anyone knows where to get replacement parts for the leo. I recently fell down a flight of stair and destroyed everything to do with my leo's outsides. The screen is trashed, and the case it bent. So, I need to replace it all. Any information would be greatly appreciate.
Thanks in advance.

When in doubt, contact HTC (And doubt some more)
It's been a few days since I first started this thread. Lots of views but no replies. So... I wrote HTC about it (on their website) and their response was quite unbelievably stupid.
I mentioned that I live in China, and that I'd like to know how I could have it repaired. I put in the serial number as well. They replied by telling me that my phone was sold in France and that I should go back to France to get it repaired, otherwise I can go to Hong Kong or Taiwan to get it repaired.
I am really curious what kind of person would write such a silly reply. As though plane tickets cost the same as cab rides, and the flight is only a hop and a skip away.
I've written them back and clarified the kind of help I am looking for (An address to send my phone to, and a quote for parts and labour) here's hoping they don't misinterpret it again and send me more bs.
Not much point to my writing this other than to say, if you need to contact HTC with a similar query, assume you're writing to an idiot and be as absolutely clear as you can. You may even want to suggest to them what is common sense, and not assume that they're going to think of the most reasonable method themselves.

Hi,
Sorry to hear of your accident.
If your phone is that badly damaged why don't you just claim off your phone or house insurance and get a new one? Sounds like this is much less hassle than trying to get it repaired.
I am assuming you have some form of insurance for the phone?

Or send it to HTC repair. I heard it will cost like €150 to repair.
Have a nearly same question.
My HD2 screen one day have a big black dot at the center. I give my HD2 to the local HTC service, they answer me that, they cannot give me a warranty because it's broken by pressing from outside into a screen.
So, if replace a screen will cost about 230USD.
I take my HD2, come home, search on eBay for the screen replacement. It cost only 80USD. Maybe it's a solution for you too.
Hi,
where did you get the replacement screen for $80?
Thanks.

I've had the same problem too a couple of times. Fortunately both times the dot disappeared after pressing the screen gently in various places. What's disturbing, though, is that I've had the phone for a week only and gone to great lengths to ensure it has not been under any physical pressure (or psychological, for that matter ). Have anyone else noticed this; is this a weakness with the phone or have I just been unlucky?
u should take it to htc service !
I've just dropped mine and accidentally closed a door on it, so now mine is full of scratches too.
I'll take it back to the service center in Taiwan when I get back there, though rather annoyingly that won't be until March at the earliest If the HK service center can do it though, I can drop it in there in Feb ... I wonder if their pricing will be the same ...
Hey guys I dropped my HD2 too and the screen cracked. I noticed that there are repair kits at around 80 USD. Anyone has any video or tutorial on how to replace the screen with the repair kit? Or has anyone self-repaired the screen successfully?
I'll have the chance to either get a new HD2 (and sell the broken one), the Hero or perhaps the Nexus One so I want to see if it is possible to do a cheap fix and get a new toy.

[Q] Anyone have a non working Telus Milestone?

I have a Motorola Telus Milestone that I am using on AT&T in the USA. I believe the motherboard may have died on my phone and am looking to see about getting a replacement motherboard specific to Telus/AT&T if anyone has one they are looking to sell let me know. Thank you
Sir,
I'm not sure about you can find a new motherboard, it may cost similar prices with phone.
I have bought a rarely used Motorola Milestone for $300 on Ebay, I liked it too much but I have problem with the keyboard slider, it's no holding tight, shaking sometimes,
Do you think the sell the phone as parts ?
If yes, how much do you want for both keyboard slider mechanism and camera button (if it's still in golden color, mine came in white color :S )
According to the Motorola Canada website my phone is still covered under warranty for another 2 months. However it obviously does not mean that it will be repaired/replaced. I am still waiting to hear from Motorola if I should send my phone in or not. However if things do not go the way I am hoping. I would sell the device as is for parts only. I will leave a comment on this thread depending on either way whatever I hear from Motorola.
If I do end up selling the device it will be as a whole unit, not broken down. There is a website I found that has parts for the a lot of phones. Here it is:
http://www.globaldirectparts.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=milestone
I may buy whole unit if I can effort the price, please just let me know about it.
Thanks for the link, jgregoryj1
Edit : Do you know any website like that but selling single unit, too ?

[Q] What Screen is for Milestone!! [Q]

Hey friends How are u!!..
"Idiotly", I have broken my screen.. and I live in Vzla so, here these screen are being sold very expensive. So I am thinking of buing it at amazon in a very low price (comparing).
The problem is that the only screen for sale is one that says: "LCD Screen Display for Motorola A955 Droid 2 Milestone / A855 Droid Milestone".. I am almost sure and ready to buy it, but this is not enough. Its necessary a safe opinion.. So, does this screen works on my Milestone A853??. I would go crazy if, when it arrives, I get know that this is not the correct one..
So thank u very much and sorry for lots of words hehe.. Im practicing my English..
well you should just visit a local service center and ask about the screen replacement first.
Buying first and then what? I assume you're not going to DIY this yourself and still need someone to do it right? Then first find the person who's able to do it! not vice versa
Sure, thanks for the suggestion..
But well I already know this is the right one. I compared the codes printed in the back side of my screen with the ones printed in the screen shown in the sale photo. And I do this kind of reparations, this is not a problem.
Thanks friend.

[q] my z1s screen is cracked!

I don't know why, but I'm sure I didn't do it. My Sony Xperia Z1s C6916, which I bought from T-Mobile USA, suddenly had a crack in the screen, across the screen, left to right. The screen now is unresponsive and keep reading wrong touch controls. I cannot use it anymore.
Now I google it and found it's a well known problem amongst the Xperia Z series user, and that Sony, most of the time, won't recognize that is a manufacturer defect, and won't repair it under warranty.
As much as I hate it, I need to get it fixed. Question is.... to those with a similar problem, did you send your phone in to Sony for Screen replacement on any Z series ( Z, ZL, ZR, Z Ultra, Z1, etc.). To those who paid for the repairs, how much was it? I just wanna know because a local mobile phone repair shop can do it for $150 USD, more or less.
However, as much as I would hate the Sony right now, I trust them for repairing on their own products, resealing it the water-resistant ways, Though you can make sure that I'll treat it like any other phones, water-resistant or not.
What I'm concern about is the cost. Xperia Care online are idiots who can't tell the difference between a Sony Xperia and a Samsung Galaxy.
Also, I contacted Sony via email, twitter and facebook. I asked how and where to send the phone in. None have reply. on via email, they gave me the reference number.
What I need is for them to open a case, RMA form and number, and an address for me to send it to.
They are taking it awfully slow and I'm hating them for it.
If I could choose, I would want to send it straight to Sony HQ in Japan for repairs.
Have you tried calling them? Their customer service is very good.

I have to deal with support of various manufacturers daily (working as an it professional)
In Germany it's like this:
As end user your reseller must look at the case. If you bought it in a store go there and ask them.
HOWEVER
I've discovered that most of them are stupid and/or non cooperative.
So your best chance is calling the Sony support. Go to their website and look up their telephone number. When you call them you most likely need to give them some kind of serial (imei). After, tell them your problem and you most likely will get a return sticker. Send in your device via mail and get a repaired (or new) I device about a week later.
I've discovered that this way is the fastest and less troublesome way to deal with broken devices

I'm in a similar situation. TMo US took one look at it and said they won't fix it, and then informed me that I didn't have device protection on my plan (thought I had, grumble grumble) so they can't do anything for me. Called their claims department, was again informed that they cannot do anything for me.
Has anybody had luck with Sony HQ performing repairs? Or, has anybody had any luck with swapping over a clean screen and digitizer from another Z1s? I can follow teardown and rebuild guides to make the swap, and have all the small device tools necessary to swap the screen.
Meanwhile, my wife has no phone until we find some solution ...

Subscribing to this thread, because I noticed exactly the same thing yesterday. Took phone out of pocket and the bottom right of the glass is cracked. Not affecting use (for now) because it is in the large bezel area, but I did nothing but take it out of my pocket. Please let us know if it is repaired under warranty by Sony - I know TMo is going to say it was my fault.
Don't some of you use a leather pouch to protect the phone? It takes most of the pressure on the screen when in the pants or something

Never been much of a pouch (or case) user. If I knew the phone glass would crack spontaneously, I probably would have done something different (like not buy it).

This is a good method to reduce cost, but you'll have a higher chance in losing your water / dust resistance. You can also damage your phone if you're not careful. Not sure if people really care about the resistances though.

I sent my phone in to Laredo as well, my phone didn't have a warranty associated to it and they replaced the screen (along with some other parts) for free. If you want water/dust resistance, shell in the $25 for inspection / shipping and see what they'll charge you. For me they just repaired it without leaving an email or phone call. If they charge you an unreasonable price ($150 < x) then have them send it back to you and repair it yourself or have a third-party vendor do it for you.

In fact , the Sony customer support can't guarantee water resistance either after disassemble your Z1s.
The oem precut adhesive should not cause any problems with ruining your ip58 waterproof.
I've done lcd swaps and it should be properly sealed if you use that. As I've read, brand new Z1s have leaked water aswell so it might be about luck.

This just happened to my bf's z1s. He put it in his pocket when he got out of the car, walked into our apt, and when he took the phone out it was completely cracked and the screen was unresponsive.
He's sending it out today be checked by Sony. The rep made it VERY clear that the "engineers" would look at the phone and determine if it was a manufacture defect or not. If it was a defect, they'd fix it and return it. If not, then they'll call and discuss repair options.
You might not be able to tell from the photos, but the cracks are under the glass, and it's clear that it's not do to user abuse. Hopefully the "engineers" see it the same way.
Posts like these helped convince us that sending the phone to Sony was worth a shot, so I just wanted to share our experience. I hope he has the same success you did with getting it fixed. I'll update in a couple of weeks on the verdict.
PS: for anyone else that faces this issue, TMO insurance will not cover this without a $150 deductible. We were told that regardless of what caused the crack, they don't exchange phones with cracked screens. The TMO rep we talked to def didn't believe that the crack happened spontaneously. Don't waste your time.
