Since getting my Moto X I've been wondering why the calendar app icon is different from what I'm used to with my Nexus devices, and another thread indicates that the stock calendar app is the AOSP calendar, which is different from the Google Calendar in the Play Store. I also noticed that the Google Calendar in the Play Store was updated yesterday with the typical "bug fixes". What are the pros and cons of staying with the stock app or switching to Google Calendar?
The main difference I saw was the newer Google Calendar has a better time selector. I use Business Calendar but recommend the newer Google Calendar over the older AOSP if you're choosing between those two.

You can disable Android calendar in app settings and install Google calendar from Google play store. Don't disable android calendar storage. Just clear data in android calendar storage.

Just read on the BBC web page that when you update to gingerbread thats already on the nexus s you will lose the option to have Facebook contacts in your phonebook. Will this be Facebook android app and Facebook for HTC sence? this will be very bad.

This is just on 2.3.3 which is specific to Google devices (N1/NS) so I'm guessing that most updates will be built around 2.3.2 which doesn't remove the sync options. Tbh this part of an ongoing battle between Google and Facebook which stems from Google wanting to force Facebook to use the Android contacts API and thus allowing the use of your Facebook contact info for other apps and purposes. It is possible that Facebook will adhere to the Google API but it creates a whole load of other issues that suggest it won't be a simple procedure.
Regards.
Hello, I use a rom without google apps (because i don't want google apps). I need an app like Google Calendar app to use for memo, with monthly visualization, like Google app. Actually i'm using aCal, but it's too slow. Can you help me?
Is anyone able to sync their Google calendar with their fires? I have it setup to sync but I do not see any of my calendar entries. I would like to be able to see all my calendars.
If it matters I am rooted so open to other options.

Google sync settings are not included with the amazon software. They removed it however you can install the AccountAndSyncSettings.apk which is included on full fledge android devices. You can read my notes and download here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1897380
I don't use calendars but this activates your sync.
Gmail and Google voice are syncing just fine it seems to only be calendar.

Hello All,
I've been getting double calendar notifications for events since day one. I ignored it for awhile. Then it bothered me enough to do something about it. So i looked and noticed there were two Calendar apps so I disabled one and am still getting double calendar notifications.
Does anyone know a fix for this?
Thank you
Bump, please anyone?
Possibly uninstall one? You could also try turning notifications off for one.

I immediately disabled the stock calendar app and installed Google Calendar from the play store, there are no conflicts and it doesn't affect anything.

any idea why 1. the X has the android calendar (and not google) and 2. why the google calendar doesn't automatically replace the android calendar?
they're functionally identical, just one has Google's signature.

It might be an AOSP versus Google ROM kinda thing. Doesn't make sense, seeing that the Google Keyboard is built in.

If you go to the Play Store, there is an updated Google Calendar app. It is Version 5.01579230.
When I install it , it gets installed in addition to the Google Calendar app that comes on the phone, even though it seems like it is intended to be a replacement. Does anyone know why the new app doesn't replace the old one? When I get notifications, I get them from both apps. I can easily uninstall the newer one. But, I prefer it. I'd rather just have the new one. But, the new one can't be just uninstalled. I'm afraid to go disabling things on the old version because I do not want to interfere with the new one functioning.
Any ideas? Thanks!!
The Note 4 does not come with the Google Calendar app installed, it comes with the Samsung Calendar app. Unfortunately the Samsung Calendar cannot be fully disabled. You can remove all the calendars to display though if you want to use the Google calendar app.
Haa. I had no idea that was Samsung's Calendar. They seem so similar. Thanks.
