[HOW TO] Get Android 4.2 Beta On Your Nexus 4 - Nexus 4 General

Hello guys, while trying to change partition layout of our nexus 4, i ended up finding how to get android 4.2 beta on your device;
1st Post - Tutorial(about the rom will be 2nd post)
TUTORIAL(about the rom & ss, 2nd post)
1st: Download these files:
https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/occam-jdq39-factory-345dc199.tgz (Factory Image of 4.2.2)
https://mega.co.nz/#!BA9HXAyJ!O2YFME-Wm_l6KXynWOxCYGztwuBq6u9fV4caMWtc5ls (Nexus 4 TOT file, dont worry we will not flash this on LGPST)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2387139&d=1384231255 (LG Firmware Extractor, to extract the .tot)
Fastboot and Adb already configured will be needed(i will not explain how to do this).
2nd: Install Factory Image
-just extract the .zip, and run flash-all.sh(or .bat if you using windows)
3rd:Extract the .TOT
-first, extract BinExtractor zip into the same folder as the .tot
-go to the location where bin extractor and the LGE960 .tot is(it must be the same)(ps: i use c:\ to be more easy to use the files).
-rename the .tot to a.bin
-open cmd as admin and type BinExtractor -extract a.bin
-it will say a warning about not finding magical number, just type "y"(without quotes) and press enter.
-then it will crash(if not skip), to fix the crash, right click BinExtractor.exe,go to compability and use Windows XP SP3
- if has crashed do again the command BinExtractor -extract a.bin, type y and press enter again.
-now you will see another warning, type y again and press enter, and wait until it finishes
4th:Installing the new System
- turn off your phone, and turn on as fastboot mode(vol down and power)
-open cmd where the fastboot folder is located and type fastboot erase system and press enter
- on that cmd, after it finishes type fastboot flash system <path\to\17-System.img\that\will\be\in\the\same\folder\as\a.bin>
- when it finishes, you just need to reboot and wait untill it finishes loading
Thanks(no order)
@xonar_ :for BinExtractor
@Gigadroid :for unbrick thread

Weird App(LocMgrFT 1.4):
Google Now as Just Google Search(yeah, no google now really):
About The Phone(System Updates dosent work, it dont find any)
Dev Options(Some Options That i didnt saw on official 4.2.2, like simulate second display and bug report):
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The rom is stable, sometimes launcher crashes but its rare.
It uses less 20mb of ram the normal 4.2 & 4.2.2
some buttons are slightly changed from official 4.2

on about the phone you see that the kernel is from 2013 but that is because we are using 4.2.2 one(remember, after factory reset we only flashes system.img not boot.img)

whats the point? We have stable 4.2 (which is old) and we are on 4.4.

its not to use as daily driver, but its cool, to see how 4.2 was before release. and any aplication(except for benchmark) uses any of the api additions of 4.3 or 4.4 so yeah.
also 4.4 system ui is laggy.

nah², you need to use art and break alot of apps to make it fast as 4.3.
now stop being off topic or i report.

Thanks.. But pointless. 4.4.2 is as solid as a rock.

where did i say this is to be used as daily driver? this is just curiosity, if was to be used for testing and release i would put on android development section.

Well I think it's pretty neat to be able to use a beta just to see what it's was like

Noobs don't get what you are doing. It's not to flash. It's a legacy of 4.2 as a work in progress. What's so hard to understand? Thanks for posting

thx for response of the guy who understood the propose of this tutorial.
for the rest of ppl. troll fail detected. if was to be used as daily material i would had put on android dev section.
gg.

Android 4.2 beta
Back to school.....really?

Thanks for sharing! I love having stuff like this to play with when I'm bored and I feel like tinkering. It's also something I love having in my factory image collection. I still have factory roms from all my past devices because I never know when I'll feel like playing around with one some time.

HOW TO: Sideloading with OTA 1.5.7 update

1) Flash the phone with the stock ULYFR_U4_1.2.6 SBF file
2) Obtain root and sideloading via aRoot
3) Update phone with the OTA OLYFR_U4_1.5.7
Once OLYFR_U4_1.5.7 is installed, you will NOT be rooted, but you will have sideloading. This should suffice for some users until root is achieved.
I personally think the OLYFR_U4_1.5.7 is worth losing root for a bit. In my own experience, the update has smoothed out the Atrix noticeably. Only time will tell.
If this helps anyone, please let me know.

My question is will the update still be there today if we flash back to 1.2.6 and reroot with aroot to get the update because I'd hate to not be able to get the update again. Like you stated, it seems to be more stable as well running a lot smoother.

I flashed back to 1.2.6 after upgrading and don't get it anymore (not even through "System updates" through Settings). So idk, wait til someone's able to extract it out of the update.zip or something I guess.
EDIT: Nvm, just tried it again and got the message (through Settings)
I got it a few times. Haven't needed to try again.

This is entirely unnecessary, as you can just install apps through adb still on 1.5.7.
Just run:
Code:
adb.exe install <package>.apk
Where <package> is the name of the app you want to install. Reflashing back to stock to install the apps is a waste of time.
You are absolutely right, if someone wants to use ADB.
Sideloading independent of a computer is important to me personally.

Amazon apps on beta update?
is there a way to sideload the apps from amazon appstore?
Haven't used Amazon. Does it have it's own installer or do you just download .apk files to you phone/sd card?

I know. If I had a bad experience with a method, I would say something like "I couldn't get this to work for me." Now everyone just goes around saying "DOES NOT WORK."
Either way, the Atrix 4g community is a thousand times better than the Sprint Epic 4g community I dealt with a month and some change ago. They hated themselves over there! We are off to a slow start, but maintain civility!

Not sure if you would receive the update via OTA with that. If you were to flash that SBF followed by aRoot, would you receive the update? If you can confirm anyone receiving the update on 1.5.2, then you SHOULD be golden.
I did the update. Lost root. But can still sideload.

Wrote a simple BAT file to automate to process a little...
Basically...
1) Extract the files to a directory and put the apk(s) that you wish to install/sideload in that same directory.
2) Connect your device and make sure usb debugging is enabled and all usb drivers are installed.
3) Drap and drop an APK file onto the BAT file, and it should install sucessfully onto your device. Command window will return "Sucess" if all goes well.
This is a really simple BAT file, i'm not all that great at coding or writing bat files, but I hope this helps some people. The devs might be able to write a better script. Hopefully someone will crack this update soon and figure out how to root!
Right on man! This will be great for folks when they are installing .apk files through ADB.

[ROM][NIGHTLY] Unofficial Firefox OS Nightly Build 2012-08-26 01:37:32

Introduction
Welcome to the Unofficial Firefox OS, Boot to Gecko(B2G), Nightlies for the Nexus S
The build is compiled from the latest B2G repos using the build scripts on mac.
Notes
This build is Unofficial work, not related to B2G nightlies. Please do not report bugs to B2G team for anything that is provided as part of this thread.
Use this at your own risk. I will not be accountable if this causes you phone to fail, or you lose your data. The backup of your data is your responsibility.
B2G rom image erases /data and /cache partitions, so, you should backup /system and /data with CWM backup menu. After you flash B2G, you cannot recovery your android user data if you don't backup.
You can not burn Firefox OS ROM by Clockwork Mod Recovery, burn it by fastboot command yet. If anyone help me to make update.zip, help contact me.
Thank you.

[ROM][2.3.7]TX-MIUI Gingerbread | SDSL3.0 | AOSP 1.4 - TeamTX

Hello Everyone!
Two days ago I rooted and flashed miui on a friends Ace, played around with the ROM, and I realized that this was the one Ive been looking for for ages while in this community. I had tried porting from Motorola Defy but couldn't, then I bought Nexus and... Anyways, I just decided to make a quick port of it, and here it is! Enjoy!
It is a port from this(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1908444) ROM.
Some of the special/cool features that no other MIUI Gingerbread rom for gt540 has:
Top-coming dialogs/notifications(see screenshots)
MIUI Control Panel-some cool features(see screenshots)
FULLY themable
MIUI Backup
Switches instead of checkboxes(Not like "touch to change", they are real switches(sliding) )
MIUI Browser
Orange themed ICS keyboard
based onSDSL 3.0 build 1
ROM
based on AOSP 1.4 build 1
ROM
NOTES
You have to create a folder called "theme" under /data/theme to get the themes working
if you have adb just type this it will be easier:
Code:
adb shell
Code:
su
Code:
mkdir /data/system/theme
Launcher icons look too small. To fix apply the default theme.
Sadly, i couldn't figure out how to fix the minimum brightness on gingerbread.. So try to take care of it.. Im really sorry! TIP: you can use ddms if you accidentally turn the brightness to fully dim, to see whats happening..

HOW TO FLASH - for those without an sdcard
These builds are small(~105mb) so will fit to data partition..
1. Get TWRP if you haven't already, and flash it.
2. Boot into recovery.
3. Make a nandroid backup of data at this point in case you are coming from an old build.
4. Make a data wipe(for enough free space for the rom.zip file).
5. Assuming you already have all the drivers installed on your PC connect your phone
6. Copy the rom.zip file to the same directory with adb.
7. Open up Command Prompt; Click Win + R; type "cmd"; Press Enter;
8. Navigate to the folder of adb and the rom.zip: Type:
Code:
cd /
cd FolderOfAdb
adb push romfilename.zip /sdcard/lost+found
9. Switch to TWRP and moutn data.. Mount > Mount data
10. Again on TWRP go find the rom.zip file. Install > "..." > /data > lost+found. There you should see the rom file name click on it and wait. DON'T flash yet!
11. After a while you'll get some info about transaction in cmd window indicating that the file was pushed successfully, or an error. Let's assume we transfered successfully..
12. Go to TWRP and click Flash.
13. When flashing is complete go and wipe data again.
14. If you want to restore your previously made backup do it now.
15. Reboot it should be booting now.
Good work.

Try to install SuperUser on Market, i have installed it and get root permission back.
Sorry for my bad English.
Well, install SuperUser from play store and open SuperSU, it will install binary file. When complete u can remove SuperUser and use only SuperSU. Root will work now, but some app say that no busybox is installed, so they cant work. Use Busybox Installer from play store and it say there is already busybox in the system, but when install another busybox, an error say that Busybox cant be installed.

You will need to keep this plugged in, as there is apps crashing and no power management feature yet, so battery burns quickly. The only thing you can do with it is interact with it via adb shell.
To go back, just flash the CM10.1 pack

How to edit resolution instructions added, let me know if you find a magical number.

This sounds pretty awesome. Great work giveen! I'm going to give this a go this weekend when I have some more time. Out of curiosity what kernel are you using? When a few of us ported desktop ubuntu to the nook color we were able to use a pre existing kernel(nookie froyo kernel I believe, though I'd have to dig through a few hard drives to be sure) which saved us some headaches in the beginning)
Keep it up, loving your work
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
Kernel is stated above, its my custom CM10.1 kernel developed by DJ_Steve and I
There has been no update on this because I am waiting for a new SD card to arrive so I can flash stuff.

Wow ! Congratulations ??
So we are getting a custom ROM finally Thank you very much!
It's a shame: The Pixel C ist the best Android Tablet on the market but it gets almost no community support, because it costs a few bucks more than the usual cheap china crap
i think the bootloader situation is more detrimental to us than the lack of pixel c owners. even chainfire won't mess with it and he owns a pixel.
nice to see a custom rom finally, but it puts the navigation buttons in the middle. that's a step backwards in my opinion.

Nav bar tablet mode is a changable feature in settings
I was at work for 13 hours today so no time for anything else, I can upload a system.img tomorrow if anyone is interested it just needs flashed thru fastboot then you gotta manually wipe data and flash gapps and manually set permissions for gapps I'll see how much time I can set aside later this week for a better method. I pulled the source for depth charge and I'll dig in and see if I can figure out how to use it it's kind of annoying that there's no documentation included how hard is it to write a readme sheesh

This isnt a full rom yet so much as a system.img it still uses the stock kernel so you get whatever that supports for now.
I'm uploading JUST the system.img right now I'll link it shortly.
*and it's up check first post.
Awesome!!!
I'm patiently waiting for updates because I'd love to use this without the listed bugs This tablet really needs a bad ass ROM to unlock it's full potential. Not rushing you obviously, good work takes time!

Sorry been swamped I picked up a 2000 beetle for $600 and am ripping the cylinder head off it now, and I've been working my usual 50-60 hours a week too. Ive been running this daily it works great installation is a bit messy tho I'll get to it as soon as I can
My C just arrived today. I'm very happy to see an Omini ROM available. I run Omni as my DD on my Nexus 6. Can't wait to try this.
I am very excited to see where this ROM goes.
Much excite! Impatiently waiting with patience.

What exactly is causing the issue with the bootloader?

Pixel C was developed as a Chrome OS device, so it has a Chrome OS bootloader. Don't know the implications of that, but apparently it complicates things.
Why should I flash this?
Is there any feature list I missed? Wifi/Touchscreen fixed?
