You can type (for example, kernel file into internal memory) into terminal emulator: dd if=/sdcard/kernel.bin.md5 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p15 (before typing this command write su and confirm superuser access)

I want to flash claro argentina jb official firmware in a friend's s advance.. I read somewhere that shell method is a bit risky.... Is that true?
Also I think I can't flash the whole os by using the os.. Isn't cwm a more logical method?

On CWM you can't flash .tar.md5, and into shell you can flash only the components of the package. To flash these firmwares use Odin

Cocore kernel can be flashed with a zip file via cwm! It is provided on it's thread..
That zip file has the kernel with tar.md5 extention in it..
Maybe there is some way to do the same with firmwares with tar.md5 extention..
All my smartphones were Sonys, so I'm not used to Samsung methods of flashing.. Sorry if I keep asking noob questions!

That's why I said that only the components of an extracted package of stock ROMs can be flashed with shell, Cocore is packed into a flashable zip that when flashed in CWM the script runs busybox and tells to it the commands to flash that tar.md5 and where to flash it, but (for example) if you want to flash it without CWM you can use shell because is only a component and not the entire firmware!, the only way to flash a stock Samsung firmware is to use Odin. For questions: no one is born learned.
Actually I want to flash via cwm because my friend has few free time, so I have to go wherever he is to flash stock rom because he is having a hardware issue and he is still under guarantee
Phone is rooted, so it should have busybox.. It also has stock kernel, but I downloaded "temporary cwm" zip to flash jellymod and it seems to work well..
Is it still not possible to do it?

You can boot in system? If yes, download CoCore 6.8, unpack it and flash kernel.bin.md5 with Universal kernel flash tool. Before that copy some ROM to your external SD card, and after flashing CoCore boot to recovery and install that ROM.
You do not have stock recovery because you have custom one - from CM.

Just do what I said, use CoCore 6.8. And you need to unpack it, UKF can't flash zip. You need to unpack it and use kernel.bin.md5. If you can't copy file from PC, use some ZIP extractor on your phone - there are some on Play store, just search ZIP.

What is written in your About phone? Maybe you can ask Frapeti to add suppert, or to tell you what to change in build.prop to make your phone usable with UKF. CM changed it, and maybe UKF not recognising phone because of that. But build.prop must have permissions 644, otherwise it will get you a bootloop... When you edit it, you might change permission with save.

First thing that come to my mind is that you instaled GB ROM, and your friend have JB kernel (CoCore 6.8). Post link of ROM you instaled, to see if it was GB or JB ROM.
Second, do factory reset.
If you can go to recovery do this:
Connect phone to PC, mount SD card in CWM (or you use TWRP recovery, mount it there). Push some JB ROM in it, and install it.
I think flashing firmware with Odin is easier, beacuse for pushing zip from recovery you need adb shell, and knowledge of command to push it there. But you can put his SD card in your phone, and use it to transfer ROM too. Just tell him to use JB ROM, not GB.
And if that do not help, I suggest you use Odin method,. Download Firmware, flash it and then you can root it again and use CoCore and some custom ROM.
http://samsung-updates.com/ and http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ are trusted sites for Samsung firmwares.

you could use the device initialization feature inside the smart switch pc software to install official stock rom to your device. all you have to do is put the samsung device to donwload mode or more commonly known as odin mode. and connect device to the pc. go to device initialization on smart switch pc. then type in your device model number and serial number then the software will prompt to install usb drivers if not already installed then the software will automatically download official stock rom and flash it to your device. search you tube on more info on how to use it.
note: i couldn't find device initialization on latest version of smart switch software. you probably use the 4.1.17054.16 version.

Custom Roms as Nathan's rom, CM7, CM9, CM10 can be flashed over Stock roms via CWM 5.x.
If you flash CM7 you can go back to stock using a CWM Backup, or you can directly flash another rom as Nathan's rom, CM10.1 ... whatever custom rom!
Only if you have got problems or you want to clean your system and set it by default when you unboxed your device, then you need to use Odin, also if you want to upgrade from Froyo 2.x. to Gingerbread 2.3.x.

I UNDESTOOD ALL WHAT YOU ASKED FOR :s
THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY TO FLASH A STOCK ROM >>>> ODIN!
THERE ARE 2 KIND OF STOCK ROM FILES >>>> ONE PACKAGE AND FULL PACKAGE
THIS 2 KIND OF FILES ARE THE SAME! THEY CAN BE FLASHED FOLLOWING HUBIX'S GUIDE!
IF YOU HAVE A CUSTOM ROM (ALL OF THEM HAVE .EXT4 FILE SYSTEM) WHEN YOU FLASH A STOCK ROM VIA ODIN, ODIN'LL CONVERT YOUR .EXT4 FILESYSTEM TO .RFS FILE SYSTEM (AS DEFAULT IN STOCK ROM)
IS IT CLEAR??
If you want to go back to CUSTOM STOCK ROM (Nathan's rom e.g.) only you need to flash it via CWM following dev's instructions
If you want to go back to OFFICIAL STOCK ROM (ktm, ddkq8, kte...) USE ODIN!!! It's the safe way, following hubix's guide.

One package & multi package firmwares perform the same task. It is just that phone, csc, boot, pda, etc., are all integrated in one file. Yes the filesystem format will be converted, you needn't worry. Just flash. Prefer one package files over multi package files as they are always easy to handle & less prone to errors.

Install CoCore E kernel with Universal kernel flash (downlaod 8.2 version and unzip it, use kernel.bin.md5). You will need some root explorer to work with Universal kernel flasher, use whatever you like - I use ES file explorer.
Link to kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2140597
We install CWM with kernel, can't be separated. For permanent.
P.S. CM10.1, CM10.2, OmniROM - all those you can install without CWM - with stock recovery.

Download firmware for your phone and use Odin to flash it.
Pay attention. Do not install I9070 firmware on I9070P phone, and I9070P firmware on I9070 phone - it will HARDBRICK it!!!
How to use Odin: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1985398
Download firware from sammobile.com or from samsung-updates.com
CWM will not help you with this.

But you cant jump in that rom without installing JB firmware, that I told you. You can flash firmware that is in your region, so I think you can use English. Maybe that T mobile has some of its bloatware, but it can be removed.

You installed GB kernel over JB system, that is not gonna work. Do what Patlcs told you. You can install just kernel, remove md5 from stock firmware, open it with WinRAR or 7-zip and remove all except kernel files (two of them). And flash them via Odin.

If you modify .tar.md5 file, the md5sum will be mismatched giving invalid file while trying to flash...

I used to do that, I was just removing other stuff. And it was working just fine. BTW, I leave file without *.md5.

1. What problem?
2. He flashed GB kernel over JB - that is his problem.
3. How to downgrade - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2195673
4. Solution to have TWRP on JB is to install CoCore kernel with TWRP recovery, just go to developer section of our phone and look for CoCore thread.
