Hi guys.
Just wondering - how long are you supposed to get while the watch is tethered to your phone?
Mine is on nulrom v20 - which is great!
When tethered to my note3 - for notifications (email, phone etc) the battery lasts about 5 hours at the very most.
Is this right?
If so - not too impressed really - pretty pointless if the battery wont last a whole working day......
Let me know guys?

How about using tethering when you need it ? Why do you need tethering on your gear constantly anyway ? Of coarse your going to get bad battery life..
I get over 8 hours which lasts me a full day of work. Are you using any CPU management program like setcpu?

Yep. Whats your cpu settings. Got mine ondemand and 400-1600.
Maybe 200-1200 better?

I'm getting amazing battery life BT tethered with Null 20 as long as I leave the wrist motion turn-on disabled (with that on mine also dies in 5 hours)
I had mine tethered for 12 hours today (I don't need to, but I was just trying it out syncing gmail etc.), and still had 86% left on the battery readout.

I've used tethering since it was available. It hardly had any impact on the watch. My phone battery on the other hand got smashed

haha. that is true. fortunately my N3 never suffers from any battery issues when plugged in nightly so i have just been leaving it on or i should say forgetting to turn it off.

If you are connected just to receive your notification, as a standard gear would, then your battery should last over a day. You probably need to adjust your voltage settings to solve this. I have mine set to max 500Mhz. Then it seems to last like a stock gear.
If you are connected and using Bluetooth tether, which will give you access to browsing, playstore ect on the gear, then your battery will not last at all. Then your gear and phone should theoretically suffer.
How are people retethering? I've just been leaving mine on and can usually go about 2 days with the watch and daily on the phone. I like the idea of periodic tethering, but not sure how to set it up. Going into the settings and turning it on and off each time seems a bit painful?

this really isnt true. my Gear running null_22.1 with CPU set at Max 900 and Min 300 goes days not a day but days while connected to BT Tether the whole time.
here is a snapshot of my battery usage while being on BT tether the whole time.
Ok so with null_22.1 I have set the voltage at 200 min and 600 max. It's been bluetooth tethered for nearly 6 hours. Been getting email and text notifications since then and battery is on 71% The watch has actually been on since 7am this morning. Just not bluetooth tethered til 9:50. Am much happier with these results! Only problem is its zapping my note 3 battery!! Oh well. Cant have everything!

Tethering all day is a nice luxury, but it's not really required. The gear can be set up to notify you of messages from any app. If you see a notification that's worth addressing, just flip on the client side tethering. Use the widget "Bluetooth Tethering Toggle". It's a single button click on the Gear to enable or disable tethering. On the note side, leave bluetooth tethering on at all times. It will not use any extra battery. Battery is only consumed when the client is actively connected.

I find I can easily get a full days use with battery to spare with BT tethering all day however.

Couple issues here for me.
Bluetooth Tethering Toggle (widget)? correct? It doesn't indicate whether Tethering is on or off when I press it or am I missing something or possibly have the wrong app?
With Bluetooth tethering engaged on my gear, I drain rapidly at about a clip of 2% a minute battery :silly:

Unless you have the icon hidden like I do with NotifyClean, you should have an icon in the left side of your phone taskbar that comes on when BT tethering.(plus the widget should have a green ring around it)
the main purpose of the Gear is to notify you of any notifications you may have. Why disable tethering??

notifications come via BT standard setup. tethering comes in to play when you want more standalone phone like functions. with no tether you get email, fb, etc.. basically a notification from any app you choose on Gear. with tether added you can actually check email, post fb, use browser, all full internet type activities
Thanks mate, didn't know that small detail!
I put together a list of things that helped me get 7 hours SoT on a charge (Wifi). Edit: 6.75hrs SoT. Edit2: 7.75hrs SoT No root access or modifications needed for these.
This is my first Android device and I wanted to share some of the things I've learned mostly reading these forums. It also annoys me to read users complain about their battery life but are unwilling to do anything about it. I hope this will help people to realize the full potential of their phone.
Llama, Tasker, etc: Automate everything you can to save battery. It can be more efficient to run a line of code then to tap the screen.
Force stop all the programs you don't really need running in the background in Settings > Apps > Running. Basically act like your own Greenify. Or use Greenify.
Wakelocks: Track the "Awake Time" of suspicious applications and services and either reboot or force stop them if necessary.
Disable Google applications you don't need. Myself I disabled Chrome, Gmail and News & Weather.
Disable: touch and typing vibration. I have type sounds On and touch sounds Off because those really add up on speaker.
Disable: NFC, Bluetooth, Wireless printing etc. Automate to run only when needed for no lost functionality.
Wifi: Automate to turn on only for Wifi zones of your choice. No lost functionality. Wifi always scanning: Off.
Notifications: Apps and games can send you unnecessary notifications. Disable them. Enable only what you need.
Hotword detection: off. This specifically drains SoT and saves only a single screen tap.
Widgets: These drain battery without ever showing up individually on the stats page. Silent killers.
Lux: Another silent killer even when set "On Wake only" and "Slow". Just by disabling Lux lite and a once-daily updated Feedly widget I noticed significant SoT gains. Using Llama to automate brightness is more efficient.
Speaker vs Headphones: The speaker seems to use more battery.
Two apps that can help you monitor your battery and phone with no root requirement:
Play Store Link.
Current Widget - Set to update manually on your home screen for minimal power draw. Check your charge and discharge rates along with battery temperature.
Play Store Link.
S Tools+ - This just popped up in the XDA apps section the other day. Detailed information on CPU states, Deep Sleep time and ALL your sensors, nicely graphed and very polished including transparent nav bar. Other than real time graphing of sensors this shouldn't be much of a drain.
Speaker vs headphones....what?? Care to explain how? I'm saying the difference is negligible.

Yeah, you really don't need to do all that to save battery. Just don't turn on data until you need it and you'll get a week of standby on a single charge with this phone, and a full day of usage (or more depending on how much you use it).

I seem to drain more battery listening to music with speakers over headphones but its hard to tell and probably negligible, as you say.

Not sure if serious or not. That functionality is enabled on the phone by default and you'll see many people struggling to get over 3 hours SoT like that.
There are even reviews which seem to think topping 3 hours SoT is some kind of miracle. Most will answer that by saying: "you need root and flash x ROM with y kernel".

Its far too convenient! Does llama have the same exact function built in?

Gotta agree. The vast majority of users charge overnight and with my own setup - currently on stock rom and stock kernel (though I'm currently bouncing between that and Franco to see which I prefer) with pretty much everything always on (NFC, WiFi, data, location access, though I disable notifications from the likes of Facebook, Twitter, etc. just because I'm not that invested in social networks that I'd want constant updates) I can get 3+ hours SOT - which I'd assume is more than enough for most people. Greenify is to thank for most of my battery savings.
But don't get me wrong - for those who do need more SOT than that, the OP is fantastic advice, and I'll be coming back to this thread when I'm on holiday etc. and won't be able to charge every night.
great tips
kuddos to the OP
very helpful tips...hotword detection remains off for me most the time

don't mind the haters. they're just mad that they only get 3 hours of screen on time and 10% battery drain per hour when deep sleeping
they would rather complain than take control of their device and if you dont use your own phone exactly like they use their phone, then they call foul and tell you that your results don't matter. they say the same thing to people that use their device like an ipod touch(by putting it in airplane mode).
haters will always hate

I think it's just really hard to get good auto brightness on this phone right now due to the sensor. Using Lux Lite didn't help me very much since I was bouncing between very low and extremely high brightness but I imagine the full version could be more useful.
Llama is an extremely light weight application and uses only 6MB of RAM, the lowest of any service I've seen. I think it could add to Android System drain but using Cell Tower locations and properly set up conditions I don't think it will by much.
Thanks for the supportive comments. I really just want to help and have no hidden agenda here. We've known for months now that the N5 can get 8.9 hours SoT web browsing on WiFi and 6.9 hours web browsing on LTE. Of course Anandtech used perfect, non-root conditions with airplane mode On, Gnow off and zero apps or widgets; something that even I am unwilling to put up with. We can still strive to get as close to those numbers as possible.

Generally speaking SOT depends on what you are doing.
I've been down this road and can get SOT times on any phone pushing 5 hours.
To say no loss of functionality is wrong. You state to kill half the apps that I use so that is a LOF to me.
The secret, well not really, is the brightness and network reception.
Turning down the brightness and getting max signal/bandwidth will affect the battery more than turning off apps. Remember the rule of thumb the longer the phone has to stay on for a wakelock the more the battery drains and that is SOT and sleep. What I mean is you'll drain your battery faster connected to a dialup internet connection than fiber at 1gig.... It's all about bandwidth and high signal strength and screen brightness.
Not hating just saying that no one person can say this will give you X number of hours of SOT when everyone's signal/bandwidth environment is different.
Hi everyone,
I just bought my Gear 2 Neo 3 days ago and expected its battery use can be 3 days or so. I use the watch not much, just received emails and messages notification. I also turn steps function on and... That's it.
But I experience that my Gear 2 Neo battery use just only 1 day or 1 and half day.
Does somebody have experience like this? I think I would return the watch since charging for it every day is annoying me.
Thank you,

There is a similar thread in Gear 2 forum and there people are kind of convinced that it may be a version issue. But there is an issue with watch as well. I disconnected the watch from bluetooth before going to sleep and the battery has come down 4% in 8 hours. Without display and no updates/notifications, no sleep, pedometer etc this is rather too much.
Thanks for letting us know that 4.4.2 the battery is again pathetic.
Any fixes in sight anyone??
You guys must be doing something wrong, I got mine on saturday, gave it its initial charge till it was 100% and today is the first time I have had to charge it, so what's that some 5.5 days, and that's using the sleep function, having it as a silent alarm, using the heart rate monitor every other hour (on a drug that can cause increased heart rate) getting notifications, made 3 phone calls, sent 20 something text (via s-voice).
I have screen set at 2, vibrate (no sound), and on latest fw, it is connected to my Note 3 N9005 running 4.4.2 official ota ROM.
Try to make sure the pedometer is off guys, this could be your battery problem...

I don't know if we're doing something wrong, but there is a clear difference between results. It may be that the software is optimized for the Note, maybe other apps we've added, maybe the custom rom. . . Whatever --you're getting really exceptional life -don't change what you're doing! :good:
-- I full charged yesterday at about 1:40 pm, it is 10:20am, that ~21 hours (less 20min) and I am at 72%, so about 28% in 21 hours (including going to the gym and going out for the evening and finally an 8.5hour (measured) sleep cycle (watch blocking mode turned on while sleeping and wake up gesture is ON).
-- That's about 1.3% per hour, which would be great. However, my daytime use (Saturday going out and about) will likely be higher.
-- The only difference I did was I switch off Google Now notifications (but switched ON Business Calendar and simple calendar --so I still get my appointments sent) and deleted two apps I am not using (Feedly, eBay).
I would be happy with three days and would put up with 2.5 days; but anything less than two days/48 hours would be too much of a pain in the neck to stop and recharge. Even though I have the hour or so downtime to make it happen, having to pay attention and take that action every 48 would not be what I expected. . .Well. . . we'll see how it fairs without G Now today!

Guys, I think I know where the problem is. Im using GS3 paired to my Gear2Neo. At the beginning my G2N had a very slowly battery discharge. Since two days ago battery gone mad. It went down 4% per hour even I was not using it. Finally, after experimentnig with varios combinations I found that if you uninstall goproviders app (in aplication manager on your phone) you wont be able to receive Instagram, Facebook, Twitter etc notifications but the battery will be back to normal. Ofcourse, I can still receive standard notifications (calendar, sms, email...), make or reject calls. In last 1,5 hour I lost 2-3% of battery with normal usage. For the conclusion, it is not BT but Gear manager bug. Hope they will make this work properly.
I'm still installing goproviders app but the battery is really good right now, 73% used in 75 hours.

With regards to my set up,
I have wake-up set to off (I work in an office and would constantly be on),
I have all notifications off (except call, alarm, SMS etc) only ones I have bar the std is gmail and facebook.
I use the sleep mode with notifications off
No pedo during the day (I have a fitbit one for that)
In my office im not allowed a phone, so as that is left in my car bluetooth is disconnected for about 7hrs a day (not turned off, just disconnected).
I check my heart rate every hour, I know its only a rough guide but still uses battery.
I have noticed since loading the minority report 24hr ultimate watchface (yes it does work, despite what the site says) my battery life has halved, so currently getting 2.5 to 3 days b4 I hit below 20%.
Screen is set to 2.
Notifications set to silent
One other thing to note, I seem to be getting a rash on my wrist, where the contacts on the back of the neo contact my skin. Anyone else getting this??

Wow! you have a very efficient setup --no wonder you are (were) getting such tremendous battery time! ( I need display brightness "3" to use it all day. Also, in the house or in an office, I turn off the motion-to-wake, but outside I do use it. . . )
Your adjustments also makes sense and may be a good part of your savings, since you don't have your phone in the office, and don't need to use the pedometer.
In general, I think that when we get the smart watch our first inclination is to load the watch up and do everything with every possible app! However, after a while, we sort out how we use the watch and can pare back the apps and notifications and make it more sensible, while improving battery life (a bit) too!
From what I have done on my Neo, I agree that using limited, selective notifications -and even selective app loading-- makes a difference in battery life.
I also noticed that different alternative watch faces seemed to drain the battery faster than the default options.
That's why, even after buying/trying several different watch faces; and even after using Breach 's great "create your own watch face thread," [ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2734747 ] , I went back to the stock (weather-time).
As to the rash... wow, I have had no irritation or rash or reaction on my wrist -even after working out with it on and sweating. (Wasn't that a problem with fit-bit or one of the other bands?).
Since my switch to Tizen I have great batter life. 3rd day here and still at 29 percent.
Have to agree, the battery life is far superior to the Android based Galaxy Gear.
I am on the second day and currently looking at 49% and that was from 7am to 10pm each day with as many notifications as I used to get when it was Android powered. Rest of the time is just idle by the bedside as notifications are disabled on the phone during the night.
It's given my Gear a whole new lease of life.
how?
i wonder why its better tho o0 they did a good job but what did they change? lol doesnt look or feel any different lol
Same here, I bit the bullet and made the switch to Tizen last week.
I was previously on Null, as much as I enjoy the android experience, the fun/wow factor wore off after a while. Also having to charge up the gear every night wasn't a problem, though I sometimes forget.
After I made the switch, battery life was great, I would check the battery % throughout the day and it would drop only a few %.
Thinking the battery % was stuck or hung, I reset the gear and to my surprise it was the same %.
Even though I charge up my gear every night, now I'm trying to get out of the habit and doing it every few days instead.
I get a fare share of notifications on a daily basis and the battery still chugging along nicely.
For those that haven't made the switch and don't mind not having the option of android/null rom, make the switch.
Regards
Tizen does seem to increase the Battery life. One thing to note is that everyone that is reporting 2-3 days probably has the biggest battery drainer (motion wake) turned off. With motion wake on under Null I could go from 6am - 11pm with 30% or more remaining at which time I put it on the charger. With Tizen I go from 6am - 11pm with 55% or more remaining. Both of these are with Pedometer, multiple SMS, a few FB notifys, and about 100 exchange emails.
I have been running Tizen for a while now with motion wake off. Same amount of usage and I can go 3 days (I even run the sleep tracker overnight). Very satisfying results. I miss the motion wake, I do not like having to press the button to see time. An always on or motion wake is what I want in a smartwatch (this is my 4th, (Liveview, Sony, Pebble, Gear). I am going back to motion wake, I will give it a charge at home before bed, use the sleep tracking and still get through the day fine.
Everyone is different in what they need/expect from a smartwatch. The Gear is definitely a great product, and even though I wasn't excited about Tizen I am enjoying the longer battery life and built in applications.

Dear Tizen users, does it support watch styler? I am so tempted to upgrade especially for better battery life. But I do need watch styler.

Watch Styler is in the Samsung Apps under Gear Manager now. Showed up for Gear 1 a few days ago. I installed and used it but have since taken it off as I don't change watch faces often.
Well ... Mine keeps connecting and disconnecting even after factory reset of both devices.

Well I'm running tizen for about a week now and I'm very disappointed. Battery life for me is worse than on android. After about 8 hours battery is on 54% and that's with few notifications. With android I could run the Gear for 15 hours and it was on 54% or more. Sucks that I can't go back.
Really happy with Tizen upgrade, just looks way better and battery life is way better than stock Android. Not sure yet how it stacks up against Null_ ROM but I'm sticking with Tizen. Also better looking UI imo
Taskar23: Actually, you can go back to Android. Check out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2776157
Seeing as how you are a new member here, make sure to follow instructions exactly and do not downgrade if you're not sure of what you're doing.
But be careful, some users report disfunctional touchscreen. Using Null_ ROM touchscreen seems to work, but DOWNGRADE AT OWN RISK.

I'm getting 2+ days with motion wake turned on. At first I was getting about 25% better battery life then Android. Then some combination of moving from BTU>XAC>ROM improved it to what other folks were claiming.
getting 4 days with motion wake turned off. I don't really need motion wake, too many false positives anyway.
4 days, i am so happy.
Motion wake is enabled. It would be a pain in the ass to have to turn on the phone every time I wanted to check the time or an alert.
Well I have decided to flash with the new NF1 ROM last night. Everything went well, gear is working. Uninstaled the GM and installed again, factory reseted the gear just to make sure and so far looks like about 4% battery per hour

Mine is doing this too. And when it does disconnect (when out of range) it doesn't always reconnect automatically. Is anyone else experiencing this?

The Tizen update for me is great. I have had it unplugged from the charger since 8am and it is now noon. Many notifications from girlfriend and checking the time. Still at 100% battery. This update has been nothing but a positive move. Layout is very nice. Love the background option and the fact that we can now access the internal storage. +1 for Tizen for me.

Yeah, my Gear Fit does the same thing, so I think it's probably my Note II's rom. I've never wanted to go to Verizon stock so badly ...
Tizen lost 25-30% per 24 hour
stock Android lost 50% per 24 hour
Null_ ROM lost 50-60% per 24 hour
Same Using Condition and Setting
Meh, I was running Android with tasker and auto remote and about 40 task on my gear and was getting about a day and a half out of my gear.
I upgraded to Tizen, litterally all I use is the pedometer, and sleep(while plugged in). So I unplug at 7:50am every morning. Almost every night around 8:30-9pm the watch dies....thats barely 13 hours. What load of crap lol
Granted, I'm only on day 4.. but still..
I've tried disabling LTE, simple watch-face, etc.. but can't get it to live for more then 12 hours without needing a recharge..
Do those of you reaching more then 12 hours use an always on screen? Gestures?
I did do a test overnight and it only dropped 20% (7 hours) - but my typical drop rate is much higher then that with casual use..

ps - I'm on-track for 12 hours again today, and that's with only having received ~3-4 email notifications which I just quickly dismissed in the past two hours so far..
For those that might be interested in this subject, I also posted it on reddit which seems to be getting much more traffic..

I just put mine on charge after 48 hrs with 3% left that is with screen always on off and only turning WiFi on when needed.I'm using mine tethered to my g6 without lte.
Firstly in my case I don't use LTE.
I've found having WiFi and gps switch on has made very little difference to battery life, as it's tethered anyway for this information.
I think the battery life has got better after a couple of weeks usage, and typically a full day has plenty left, nearly 50% on occasions.
Yesterday was a long day, and it managed 20 hours straight through
I usually get around 24 hours. But barely 24 hours (if I do anything except let my watch run idle on my wrist whole day, I don't hit the mark).
Screen always ON
NO SIM (doesn't even work in europe)
Always tethered to the phone
Tilt OFF
Gestures OFF
Location MIXED (decided to experiment a bit, seen no discernible difference in battery drain whether it was ON or OFF)
Watchface: Portions with 4 complications
First couple of hours is sleep tracking with screen turned off (but constant HRM sensor activity), which consumes slightly less than regular operation.
Today I turned always screen off and holy **** what a difference. After 12 hours I'm still at 80%. So the clear culprit of this is the screen. I think I will try to get used to this, it was wasting energy 99% of the time before anyway (I'm not looking it at it all the time).
I end up getting through the day at about 30 to 50% with everything on except for LTE which I toggle on and off during the rare occasions I need it. I usually use brightness 6 during the evening and 8 during the day, I find the auto-brightness too dim on every occasion. On the other hand I've had a few random days where it rapidly used it's battery and I was down to power saving in the afternoon. Havne't figured out what is happening when it occurs but when it happens my phone also rapidly drains. Other than that I wish I could increase the screen on time, it sometimes dims before I've done what I want to do and I feel like I have enough spare bat to burn a little more keeping it on longer.
My Answer, you don't. I leave everything on and charge it, like 3 times a day. I'm lucky because I have two others to swap to during charge, but I even bought a second charger for work when I do not have those available.
I simply do not want to reduce any features of the watch, so I charge it often. That's just what it is if you ask me, you're not going to miraculously get this thing working for 2 days, simple as that. So use it big, and charge it often!

Is there a faster way to toggle cellular on and off other than going into settings?
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
Not that I know of and for me it's a double downer, when I use the watch standalone I don't need bluetooth. I menu dive to switch both and then revert when I'm done. The radios should be available from the pull down quick settings IMO, it would be enough to have an icon there to open them all and you could toggle those you need from there. Considering the wasted space on that pull down it becomes a bit of a what were they thinking issue...
Hi guys i'm interested about lg watch sport here in europe and i'm willing to buy from ebay korean model. My cuestion is can i use it completly without pairing to phone with sim inside. Can i set it up without cell phone? How about using facebook, viber ( making VOIP calls) email etc... thanks

You need to pair with phone initially. It also makes it easier to copy your accounts over to the watch. After you set it up, you don't need your phone anymore BUT if you keep it on cellular the watch isn't going to last.

From my time with the watch it appears that having cellular on has little impact on battery life as long as you're within range of your phone. The part that does affect battery life with cellular on is IF you're in an area with just complete sucky cell signal to start off with. (IE my workplace) that will kill battery.
I had battery draining issues at work even with cellular off at work but I figured out that although on my phone when connected to work wifi I can get to the play store on my phone but on my watch it can't get to the playstore or communicate with google. My assumption is the watch is draining because the google play services can't connect/sync with google therefore causing it to stay awake and drain. Watch battery life has been much better when I disable wifi on my phone BUT now my phone drains a little faster because it's not on wifi.
Bluetooth Autoconnect app has been a lifesaver when having watch/phone/BT headset/BT car connected. You can set up profiles and priorities so that the car/headset/headphones take over the call duties so you can hear phone calls through those devices instead of the watch.
I'm still getting used to life having to sift through the menus to disable and enable radios but you're right. There needs to be an easier and faster way.
