I'm looking to run Whatsapp and Android runtime, which means I need to be on 4.4.1 or later, eliminating all of the Sense based roms for now.
I would also like to be able to edit my Quick Settings menu (how dumb is it that Google shipped without being able to modify Quick Settings) to add a rotation lock button.
So far the only Odexed (to be ART compatible) rom I can find is SinLess, but it relies entirely on Xposed framework for its customizations and that's not compatible with ART.
Any good ideas? I'm just using Notification Toggles for now but I suspect I am missing a better option.
Any ROM recommendations? I'm hesitant to run CM since somehow the battery life sucks for me and I'm not a fan of the bugs.

Pretty much an AOSP like CM11

htc uses a proprietary qualcomm optimized version of dalvik, this version of dalvik still is faster than art, so you won't see a performance gain by switching to art but will loose a lot of functionality...
I can't believe I didn't know about this before! This is cool.
I wonder why the Rom makers don't just integrate the Qualcomm Dalvik into their roms. It's downloadable on XDA as a flashable file.

It's not necessary as they are included by default in all sense roms

After playing around with tons of Sense, AOSP/CM-based, and Google Edition ROMs, I find they all have things I like, but haven't found my "dream ROM" just yet.. Carbon is probably the closest, but the 4.3 nightlies are way too buggy, and they are having problems with their M7 builds lately..
Regardless, I think the 4.3 Google Edition ROMs are the most stable, and would be the perfect base if I could just get these mods integrated into it, if it is even possible..
Better Battery icons, like Brick or Speedometer
HALO
MIUI 1-px battery bar on the top pixel of the display
Full APM (Advanced Power Menu), with Reboot into Recovery & Bootloader
CyanogenMod 10.2 SMS app with Emoji Support
More statusbar toggles, and the ability to select which ones I want
IR-blaster support
I know I am basically describing Carbon, but I'm afraid it's going to be a while before they iron out the bugs.. And even on the 4.2.2 builds of Carbon, AOSP, and CM, the audio was always much lower then Sense or GE based ROMs with Beats enabled. I always thought Beats was BS, but the difference in audio on Sense/GE and other ROMs on my M7UL is incredible.
I don't mind installing each thing as a separate mod, but I am not a big fan of Xposed, so I'd prefer to avoid it if possible.
I guess the main mods would be the battery icons, and a full APM. Is there a list somewhere of all the GE 4.3 mods available?
Thanks, and sorry for the wall-o-text!
Does anyone know of any programs similar to Gravity Box for Android 5.0 that dont require Xposed? I would like to hide particular icons in the status bar and get rid of the carrier branding on the lock screen and other similar mods.
Thanks in advance.
You're posting a question in the wrong place.
Dang it. No wonder I'm not getting any answers.
Thanks!
To answer your question though, so far there aren't a ton of options for customization of Lollipop (save for the CM12 Theme Engine) and it's probably going to take awhile for development to kick in. Lollipop runs under ART runtime (as earlier versions of android ran under dalvik). ART makes themeing and customization more difficult, and Xposed can't run under ART. Hope that helped.

Thank you sir!
With Xposed and Wanam, I had basically quit going with the heavily modified or asop roms on my last few samsung devices because they usually introduced stability and/or battery life issues that simply weren't worth it for me. Between root, wanam and the ability to freeze bloat with Titanium, I was basically perfectly happy to stay on stock TW pre 5.0.x.
However, now that I've upgraded to Lollipop, I find myself missing some of the customization stuff that Wanam allowed (simple things like the CRT effect or removing all of the audio warnings samsung builds in).
I hate wading through all of the crap and hype in the development section from script kiddies who all claim their rom is "insanely fast and buttery smooth bro". Short of actually getting xposed (I know there's a beta) and Wanam on the Note 4, does anyone have a preference in Rom that basically debloats/roots and adds some of the wanam options by default?
HI there, which ROM out there offers high level of customizations and baked in mods (record calls etc) while providing full TW experience. Thanks!

yes go with either tekhds rom or maximum ovrdrive, both are excellent
Honestly, I don't see what the fuss is about....yeah the rom works smooth and I get no errors so that is great, but it doesn't come with ANY interface customisation settings... or am I doing something wrong? When I go to the settings I see nothing except for some some added apps. I asked in the forum and I was told to install a theme. Well I did and still nothing.... is there anything out there like the AllianceROM for my NOTE 3 that was highly customizable? Thanks!
Check out dynamic Kat or dynapop for inbuilt theming apps. Or you can always root your phone and install xposed to use modules like Wanam or xblast tools to do even more theme tweaking.

I've spent much free times of testing all free available versions of Android and have found out best performance, batery life and response have "old" Kitkat. Besides that I can run older games which aren't compatible with LP or MM (however I can't play Titan Quest...I can live with that). But the only thing I realy don't like is notification area, quick toggles and system of notification generaly. Gravitybox can add heads up notifications (it isn't the same as on LP or newer, but at least something like that). I've installed MonsterUI which makes some thing to look like LP, but not SystemUI (even it says it mods this). I've found some instructions here on xda how to mod systemui.apk to achieve this, but it's really long and time consuming process. Tried this someone already? Or is there some Xposed module to make that? Or another way? Thank you.
no need to bother yourself with skins etc. Lollipop is close enough (in battery performance).
