Here is what has been going on with my phone:
GPS turns on and I haven't been able to determind which app is doing it
Swype Keyboard doesn't work and shows only a white box, All other Keyboards work
Some Apps will cause the back button to become the button that would normally hide the keyboard and then the back button never reappears until after download. Button also doesn't work
Lag when in Recovery
Screen turn on right away after hitting power button
I don't know if it is worth trying to figure out these issues or I should just upgrade to 4.4
While I know there are tons of tutorials out there to do that but I haven't seen any instruction on how to upgrade from where I am since I rooted and locked my phone and am still on the android version that shipped with the phone back in Aug, Pre all Cam updates.
Any Help and or advice?

galaxy i9000 on froyo, rooted, one click lag fix.
out of the blue, whilst playing my gameboid emulator, phone started vibrating and rebooted. now i can not get into any of my phones data or files, all i get is a black screen, quick glimpse of my homescreen (correct times and up to date messages being received) more vibrating, then another black screen with more vibrating and a quick glimpse of my homescreen. this process continues in a loop for as long as it wants, or until i take my battery out.
my phone was one of the unfortunate bunch that got dispatched from orange that can't access recovery mode.
don't really want to send it back to orange because its rooted, so just wondering if there is any way of doing a factory reset, or any other solution to the problem would be highly appreciated.
thanks, tom.
please help i really dont want to send it back to orange
I would reinstall the stock firmware. I mean do you have a custom rom in your phone as this is all happening? If so, reinstall that rom. But which ever you have, get into download mode by one of these two methods:
Turn off your phone, hold volume down, home button, and vomlume button all at once and at the same time.
Or
Take your battery out, hold volume down, home button, and power then reinsert the battery.
What you are trying to get is a yellow android that's digging. Once/if you get into download mode, use Odin to flash the stock firmware or any custom rom that is Odin compatiable.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
but he doesnt have the 3 button combo.........
anyway there is a way to fix the 3 button combo, put it in the search bar.
if you wanna do a hard reset and see if that clears the problem type into the dialler *2767*3855#
ah i see. still worth a shot though. my other SGS phone (vibrant) had recovery disabled, but i could get into download mode by taking the battery out and reinserting it while holding volume down, home button, and power button.
PROBLEM
JUST FLASH NEW ROM VIA ODIN YOUR PROBLEM WILL BE short out..........................if I really help u plz click on thanks meter
This problem existed on my Galaxy Tab GT-P1010 before but now it's to the point where the device is becoming unusable.
When the device is on and I click to power button to get it out of hibernation/sleep, the screen lights up but stays black and the power buttons light up. The device itself is on since I can unlock it and feel the haptic feedback when I click the home button or hear the audio change from the volume buttons but the screen stays black. I have to try several times before getting it on and sometimes it doesn't come on at all. This used to happen before but it would come on after a few swipes. The annoying thing is that when the screen does come on then it works like usual.
This problem has existed for a long time on this device since I got it as a gift, I've rooted it since then and tried several different settings but with no results.
I'm now assuming it's a hardware problem so is there any way I can open it up to fix it (plan to get another tablet anyways so not worth the repaid cost). Are there any apps I can mess around with to try to find a solution?
Hey guys, I just recently purchased (used), a Verizon Galaxy S3 mini in physically good shape. However, I didn't completely check it out (yeah, my fault majorly). In getting back to my office I noticed that the Home key does not work, also, the "Back" and "Menu" keys also do not light up,nor do they work. So if I am in an app, I can't back out or even go to the home screen. Basically screwed. It has 4.2.2 on it and is completely stock to my knowledge. I cannot get into recovery mode either. So either the home button is not functioning completely, or the phone is really screwed up. Here are a couple of questions. There is no SIM installed, it tells me that, but I should still be able to use it as an android device, just not make normal calls right? If the Home button board is disconnected from the main board, wouldn't the home button not work, but the "back" and "menu" buttons still work, just not light up? I really hope it is something simple, I bought this fairly cheap, but didn't want to spend a ton of money as I can buy one with a warranty for like $100. Any help/ideas are appreciated!
Hi all
I have a stock HTC GPE 4.4.4, with stock recovery, no SU. Phone works fine except for a random problem which has only just started with the phone. When i unlock the phone, the back button doesnt work at all - even if i leave it for a few seconds or more. But, if i tap the home button, the back button will then start to work. I thought initially it may have been the screen lock which i recently put on so i turned that off - no cigar. Im stumped as to why its happening just! Im hoping the official GPE update will fix it but not sure...
Thanks
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it sounds to me like the capacitive buttons are starting to go bad on your phone. If you think it's the software, back everything up and do a factory reset and see if that resolves the issue. Also, I'm curious, does the back button work in recovery?
Yep works fine in recovery. In fact, its working again right now. It only ever happens when the phone has been locked for a period of time. Once unlocked, it occasionally doesnt work unless i hit the home button. Also, the search bar in chrome fails to bring up the keyboard as well.
Im pretty sure its software related though. Just wondered of anyone here had same issue
I'm on stock android S4 Active I9295. Since official Samsung upgrade to lollipop 5.0.1 the function and setting has disappeared to be able to use volume button to switch on torch when screen is off. Does anybody have a way to get it working again? Would very much appreciate if anybody can help. Made different searches but couldn't find anybody else mention this problem or solution.
This has been removed from Android Lollipop
It still works on mine, also official lollipop. Although when it times out and you it's 'up volume' again it doesn't turn on unless you turn the screen on and off.
Using an app called Torchie, just press both 'volume buttons' together to turn on/off torch anytime. It runs as a background service and just works anytime, even when screen off (if enabled from Torchie Settings). It kinda make your phone feel like a conventional battery operated torch. No root required.
