Are there any good free apps to make the home screen rotate to landscape mode?
I've tried several apps, many of which don't work at all. I found 2 that actually work - Screen Rotation Control and Ultimate Rotation Control. However, SRC screws up the camera in some way when held in portrait mode, and URC is just a 7 day free trial.
E: Tried an app called "Set Orientation" as well - it works, but it has the same camera problem as SRC.
Some additional information: This is what it looks like when I'm trying to use the camera in portrait mode with Set Orientation or SRC:

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Note the door "hanging from the ceiling". The picture has not been rotated. As you can see, the app is somehow forcing the camera to stay in landscape mode and I believe that is why it's all messed up in portrait mode. This doesn't happen with Ultimate Rotation Control - it does not affect the camera in any way and both portrait and landscape modes work perfectly.

If you have root, you can try editing SystemUI.apk (or something like that). I can't really tell what to do cuz I'm in a hurry right now, Might come back and try another reply later.

Brilliant, thank you! The screen rotation didn't work on the 3.0.0 version but everything is fine on 2.0.6b. It has a few more bells and whistles but thankfully they are all neatly arranged in the launcher's own app and don't get in the way

It's working on 3.0.0
Install it, open app drawer and slide from left to right.
Choose launcher settings and mark only option there and....voilà - it will rotate
And, yeah...it's great launcher, I love that options...

After much hesitation I've finally abandoned HC for mad-murdock's tablet-friendly CM7, and it's looking great. Was just wondering if you guys have any suggestions for apps that can further enhance the user experience. Thinking about things along the lines of WaveLauncher and Perfect Task Switcher, for that slightly Palm-y feel
How 'bout it? How d'you take your nook?
elixir - which creates a mini app tray of sorts you can place on your home screen - i created one for each of my screen - home screen had quick access to commonly used items - pulse, usatoday,tapatalk, second screen contained my utilities - titanium backup, ROM manager, Root Explorer etc..
TV Shows Stream - great paid app lets you stream past and current TV shows - while not comprehensive it does capture some of my favorites - outer limits, spartacus, fringe
NookPowerColor Button - really handy power button to turn off screen
CoPilot - navigation software i use with BT GPS
textfree/pinger - send/recieve text
Smart Taskbar:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.smart.taskbar&feature=search_result
Hands-down the absolute best app for app switching. One swipe, regardless of where you are in any app, and you have access to all your apps. A single swipe and tap and I can switch apps in half a second, even if the app wasn't already running.

why do you need a on screen button to turn off the screen? I don't get it, its the same as hitting the power button on the nook, right?
with textfree/pinger, can you send texts to anyone? like any phone?
I second TV Shows Stream!
It is the same as using the power button. However, for me, i like having an icon to just tap for screen off. Use this on my Evo too as it's so much easier to tap and turn off than feel for the power button. For me, it's a matter of convenience, that's all.
because i can place it anywhere in the screen and much more convenient not to mention reduce wear and tear to the power button - god knows we use it often enough when flashing
and yes you can text to mobile phones and not only that, text free gives you a phone number that people can respond and send text to

This is an old screenshot, since I can't take one with CM7 now... but I use extended controls (as seen at the top) and have the following buttons:
Power | Wifi Toggle | Screen Timeout Toggle | Screen-Off | Brightness | Reboot
You can also save your settings to the SD card, so whenever I flash a new ROM, all I have to do is import the profile and apply to the widget.
It works great, well worth the (current) $1.13 price.

Interesting, but it doesn't have a preferences link in the typical place, so I can't get into its settings.
I'm not using VTL anymore, but if I remember correctly you hit MENU and then MORE to access the launcher's settings.

Download from there and copy to /system/app, change permission to match the others, reboot.
Working ok, it seems to get confused when you rotate to portrait. The water switches to portrait but then switches back to landscape.
Haven't tried the other apps yet.
how do you change permissions?
Change perms with root explorer.

or download the one labeled "signed" in the name....and just install it like any other app.
Got the my water working, but can't get either weather apps to work. Keep getting parsing error. It appears to effect tablet as it feels bit sluggish to flip through tablet when live wallpaper is running. I suppose lack of hardware accelerator.

Mine works fine switching back and forth between landscape and portrait.
It appears to "refill" from the new "bottom of screen" to current battery level when I switch landscape/portrait but that's about it.

Mine is ok when switch from back and forth between landscape and portrait, but good observation if it is directly linked to battery level
Wish we can get the hardware acceleration going for gtab..
For those curious on how it looks on the Gtab here is a screenshot.
Just install the 'signed' water apk.
The water level descend as the battery drains. Pretty cool.
anyone get that weather app working?

No.
Figured out why my water level was getting messed up, had to go into the settings for the wallpaper and uncheck the change water orientation option.
works great!
Thanks for this, works great on the stock rom including battery level indication and changing orientation!
Sweet! Works nicely with CM7S.
Thanks!
Ya know what would be cool?
If the ice would start to melt when the battery reaches 20% - 15%.. hehe
Not sure about others but this wallpaper destroyed my battery

Agreed it drains out my battey too
Mine gets confused when I switch it to portrait and back to landscape. It's like the sensor is rotated 90 degrees and stays on the side I rotated too. Rebooting is the only way to reset it back.
Anyone else see this?
waterline not level
Is it just me that sees that the sensor that sets the angle of the waterline is struggling?. When I prop the gTab up on my CLIP case I notice the water line is a little off level like it's a bit tilted to one side. and when I Disable the water rotation setting I notice the water line will "twitch" every second or so like it's struggling and getting some conflicting data.
It would be nice to have a gyroscope sensor in the gtab. But were stuck with the accelerometer, not quite as accurate.
Works on Vegan Ginger ROM, using the signed apk.
The angle is a little off with the tablet propped up and I have also noticed that it will occasionally "twitch".
Could not get the weather widget to work.
jschmier over on the Asus Transfomer forum has enhanced the work done by Ruvort and others and has come up with some great live wallpapers based on MyWater check them out at :-

From the maker:
This Launcher is designed with landscape tablets in mind! (that’s not to say it doesn’t also function well in portrait mode….. as it does)
First off this launcher is based on ADW.Launcher’s Source code so I would like to thank anderweb for all the ground work. Most ADW Themes will work for VTL.Launcher.
Features Include:
- tablet layout optimized (smaller screens will need to play with desktop layout and dock icon size)
- elastic scrolling
- 3 individually configurable/toggleable scrollable dock bars
- individual controls per dock for background/reflection/visibility/icon size
- icon size for docks can be set different per orientation
- user folders to place shortcuts to apps, bookmarks, contacts, etc.
- icon changing for user folders and apps.
- quick action items menu when long pressing apps, folders and widgets.
- catalogs for organizing apps in the app drawers
- swipe actions on app drawer to navigate catalogs
- uncataloged catalog where new and uncatagorized apps fall
- 1 to 7 homes screens with sense-like previews
- configurable action bindings (swipe up, swipe down, home button)
- long hold uninstall from trashcan
- moveable trashcan location
- hide home screen icon labels
- auto rotate orientation
- system persistence with configurable locked orientation
- widget size spanning
- scrollable widget support
- live wallpaper support
- fullscreen mode
- backup/restore settings
- compatible with “most” ADW Themes
This should work on virtually any device. Though non large screen devices may have issues with the layouts so you will have to play with the desktop column, row numbers, dock sizes etc.

Version from his web is probably ok, I didn't actually try it. But before, I bought it from the market (version on the market is little bit newer 1.7.0 to 1.6.5), now can't download it from the market anymore.
I guess 1.6.5 will be running pretty fine on my phone, there were just some minor fixes in 1.7.0, but I am just not sure if I want launcher with stopped development...
Got some questions on the new webtop. (I'm running the 6.7.232 leak.)
I know that the old linux layer is gone, but I am having a terrible time trying to figure out the new implementation. For example, attached is a copy of my main phone screen:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
When I switch to webtop, even though I am using the "shrink" mode, my desktop looks all funky:
It even selects its own wallpaper from another file on the device, adds extra folder icons (green rectangle), and deforms the widgets (yellow rectangle). I tried deleting the extra folders and resizing the widget, but then when I undock the Bionic, everything on my phone layout is borked.
(BTW, the webtop screen grab is clipped because I can't figure out how to do a capture natively, and the app I'm using appears not to like the dimensions of the webtop desktop.)
Initially, I was all excited about not having memory errors, etc., on the new webtop. Now, though, it seems both frustrating to use and nearly useless. About the only benefit I get out of it is a bigger screen for Firefox and Netflix.
Can anyone tell me (1) how to fix this fugly mess, and (2) how to take a screenshot in webtop mode?
Thanks.
Are you using anything other than the stock launcher on your phone.
I noticed that webtop with APEX and NOVA launcher isn't exactly pretty.
webtop mode is an all new layout for your device. In short. changing stuff on your phone's home screen doesn't affect your webtop's and vice-versa.
That is assuming that your using the stock launcher of course. Just re-select your phone background for the webtop mode and add/adjust the icons to suit your needs. It doesn't affect the icons in phone mode.
You get a 7x6 grid on your desktop with some space to the right and left for switching between screens. the space is equivalent to about 1 icon.
As far as screenshots go. I only know of one way. The print screen button on a keyboard that has it. Takes a screenshot perfectly.

You can screencap in webtop the same as in phone. Just hit power and volume down on the phone and it will work no problem.
Incidentally, I went back to the stock launcher because I was also annoyed at the weird desktop stuff, and in so doing found the key difference between .2233 and .230: the stock weather widget has been fixed (for me it would spin but never display weather).
Hi everyone,
I never had that on my Samsung phones before, the lockscreen rotates in Landscape when the same way that does an app. This is also the case on the phone app which is very annoying.
How can I set to only keep the Lockscreen and Phone app to stay in Portrait mode ? I do not want to lock all the phone in Portrait but only these 2 screens which are useless (to me at least) in Landscape mode.
I checked forums, setting, everywhere, but nothing works... Can someone help me please ?
Thanks in advance !
Sam
You can use Bixby Routines to lock orientation to Portrait when Phone app is launched.
Interestingly, my phone doesn't auto rotate in lock screen.
