I think it would be nice and very secret agent like if there was an app for the gear that would allow you to leave your phone on the table say at work or dinner and you could walk off and your phone would record everyone around your phone.
What would be cool is if it would allow you to playback the audio live on your gear. This way u could hear the stories that go on while you are out of the room. I could think of some situations where this could come in very handy.
Also, why is there no stock calculator? That is one of those things that are meant for this type of watch. Anyone remember the old calculator watches from the 90s? Lol

gear is really abandoned when it comes to official software support, just look at the amount of apps in samsung app store. close to zero.. and the apps that are there are really poor. keep in mind that gear is already for few months on the market.
there is a calculator app made by one of the XDA users, and it works really well.
I don't know about clandestine audio recordings lol... in most countries that follow commonwealth laws, such recordings are actually a criminal offense punishable by law! Unless you are actually taking part in the conversation, you cannot record audio. I'd be pretty upset if I found out a friend/family member/business associate had spied on me in such a manner.

What about not recording, but just relaying the audio? I know in the state of Idaho and Wyoming it is lawful as long as one party is aware of the recording. But if it isn't "recording" just replaying the sound, it might fall under different rules. It would be like using the super hearing aids/laser amplification that you can by so you can hear conversations from far away. You can buy those things from magazines here, they might not work that great, but they do help on hearing farther than normal to listen in.

Does anyone else think that Microsoft will kill Skype on Android? Or possibly pull away most of the resources allocated to it? Have not seen any progress on the app from Skype in a long time. The leaked one works, but a bit buggy for my tastes.

Skype is already a paid service. You dont think they just offer it out of the goodness of their hearts, do you? lol
You're just not using it as a paid service (making phone calls to land lines or receiving). Mostly it appeals to small businesses or international callers.

To be honest, at this point I would pay a one-time app purchase fee for a functioning, well-supported version of Skype that can use both front and rear cameras for video calls. Maybe even multi-party conference calls.

A lot of people probably would. I dont think Microsoft buying Skype can hurt. I mean Skype is like the "idiot savant of the software world." They only do one thing right, their voice algorithms (in terms of quality). Their front end software and what keeps calls connected all sucks (don't forget about them sticking crappy addons in skype that force install on firefox against your will that crashed the browser).
Microsoft might be Microsoft, but at least they can develop better than most other proprietary software corporations. They also won't ignore a potential market for cash (Android, iphone). Look at how much they paid verizon just to get bing stuck on phones in place of google search. They would never abandon android when there's a chance to try to take away some market share from google voice.
No. They won't be killing Skype on Android, nor will they be raising prices
Their acquisition of Skype has a lot to do with their relationship in Facebook. People forget MS owns roughly 2% of Facebook and is looking to get more. In the not too distant future you'll see their joint announcement of Skype replacing Facebook chat

haha.. spoken like a true expert. I may tend to agree with you @qumahlin but you are talking like it is good as gold.
Can you say anti-trust if they did that
They will not kill of skype on Android. Remember what happened when they tried to say other OS's (apple) couldn't use internet explorer? I think they'd have a lawsuit on their hands.

TV links, google it they get all the latest episodes the same night they air usually depending where you live before they air
Plus u can make a watchlist of all your favorite shows and it will make a nice weekly schedule for you and even notify u a day after it airs to remind you via email
or you could use eztv. This particular show gets done by the DVR though cause it was an easy solution.

Well that's very hopeful considering the body still goes threw rigimortis. Not to mention the task of restoring the soul, which isn't possible at the moment.
So the vet would have to cure decaying organs and restore the human concsciousness (soul). Well stem cells and nanobots may repair organs. Our understanding of quantom physcis regarding the human brain is limited

update 20.07.2013
Opened a new thread for the Galaxy S 4 Google Edition Here
Will not donate for the Nexus 4
update 11.07.2013
This post is from 6 months ago and so is the 100$ offer
If there is no response (a zip file ready to test) i'll have to remove myself from the list
don't get me wrong i still think this is a must feature, but it won't be relevant for me soon as i intend to replace my device,
and don't want to put 100$ for something i won't be able to use.
6 months is enough time and i believe that if there was a developer that is close to make a patch he would push himself for the extra $ people added here...
good luck to you all and thank you for voting and offering rewards
Hello, will donate 100$ to the developer who will enable Voice-Call recording (high quality) for the Google Nexus 4
Since the device has 2 mics i guess a 2-Way recording Kernel patch is possible to make.
Nexus 4 Users please vote for Voice-Call recording if you are interested in it.
Thank you
+ 1: I'll add 20 bucks to the kitty.

Bumping this to add another $20 to the pot.
Soon as I get my hands on one I'll give it a go, if no one else does first.. From my understanding it largely depends on the hardware as most phones hardware don't support intercepting the incoming call data which is why most solutions record over the speakerphone which is poor quality..
It just needs a kernel patch. I would wait for a stable kernel minus data drops and then give it a whack.

The reason people don't make these apps is because they can be held legally liable if someone misuses it.
Recording someone over the phone without their permission (even with in some instances) violates federal wiretapping laws.
Feds can wiretap us citizens willy nilly, but apparently it isn't a two way street

That's a big misconception. I don't know from where this has originated. If that were so even the audio notes recorders wouldn't be available because i could just keep another phone on speakerphone and record conversation with my phone. I think it has more to do with the lack of features in the released APIs. Anyway there are some apps but they work very selectively on some models. The only nice app I ever saw was on the old Palm Treo.
Anyway, I would like to add another $20 to this bounty. Someone please write a good 2 way call recorder.

If this were the case, then multiple phones wouldn't have this capability. Like the Desire HD and Desire Z.
That's why there's supposed to be a beep at set intervals when recording.
FWIW, if you use sip calling, a lot of clients support recording conversations. I use sipdroid

There are? I've never noticed any beeps before.
On a different subject, even the Galaxy S3 has call recording.
Callrecording is a must for me with my personal situation. I hate getting drawn into this topic but every now and then I feel obligated to clear the air as I'm very knowledgeable about the law when it comes to this area.
In the United States, call recording's legality is 100% dependent on the state you live in. Example; in Texas (where I live), it's laws state that you only need the consent of one party within the conversation to make recording the call legal, regardless of who the person is as long as they are part of the conversation.
Further explained, if I were to call a client of mine, I do not need to tell them that I am recording our conversation because I am a party within that conversation that has knowledge of the recording and I've given my consent.
If you call someone in another state that has different laws, this is where things can become complicated, but I will not go in depth here.
Wikipedia lists all of the states laws regarding call recording.
I would like to apologize to the OP'er because off-topic legality issues always seem to arise in call recording threads. It's almost like clockwork. On the bright side, this thread gets another trip to the top for more interested viewers to see.
Google Voice has call recording and it's pretty good in my opinion. It also makes an announcement that Call Recording has started. But, at least that CYA in the gray legal area.
To use it, dial 4 on inbound calls.
It seems that the Android API is buggy. I tried this as outlined by Google..
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/media/MediaRecorder.html
and recorder.prepare() throws an IOException when I try to open an audio stream with
AudioSource.VOICE_CALL. Their documentation is scarce and it's hard to guess
what is going wrong because the microphone streams open and work correctly with the same code.
It's only the VOICE_CALL stream that fails.
Arrested Development will be back in a few minutes on Netflix. Anybody else completely stoked??
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
Yep. Looking forward to it.
Netflix might be the best thing to ever happen to episodic entertainment. I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually rival cable channels like HBO for providing top class content. They've already begun with exclusive shows like House Of Cards, and resurrecting Arrested Development was a stroke of genius.
At least Netflix understand how people want to consume content in the Internet age. Instead of being drip fed content, people can watch however many episodes they want at a time of their choosing. The cable channels are going to lose out big time if they don't begin to adapt their own antiquated business models.

Hey
Too often I find myself checking out a new notification on my Pebble while talking to people, but they don't know what the Pebble is. And it makes me feel as it looks like I'm checking out the time because I'm so bored from this conversation.
Am I alone?

I think it'll still be the same message if you pull your phone out to check for notification.
I think it's less rude to check the watch but I have no data to back that up lol.. My gf said that they both are rude. She is vice president of a bank or something she knows better than me I'm just an artist

Fortunately for me my friends already know what a tech nerd I am so it isn't a big deal.
i use to have that issue but now people tend to notice the bone jarring vibration soundin on my wrist lol
I tend to look at people when they are talking to me so they know that what they are saying is important. I expect the same treatment in return. With that in mind, when I get my Pebble for Christmas from my wife, I will try to look at my notifications in a way as to not insult anyone. I'm a tech and am always am playing with some new tech toy, but when a user comes into my office, I drop everything and listen to them.
Just my two cents

I agree about respecting someone by passing attention, but I found myself in a very casual conversation with a coworker and I received an email so I looked at my watch. Obviously if it's a work related or important email that takes priority over just chatting but I still felt kinda bad checking it.

Usually, I'm moving my arm while the notification is scrolling up or I dismiss it quickly, so people see the motion and say "hey, that's one of those new smartwatches, right?"
It's interesting, because at first most people said smartwatch or Pebble; with the release of the Gear, I've been hearing people ask if it's a Galaxy Gear. Power of marketing for ya.

Actually, it provides more than just notifications. I use it as a stopwatch and a timer for sporting events. I can control music playing from the watch. I use it for Google turn-by-turn navigation. I can control the phone's camera to take pictures. With the upcoming Pebble 2.0, there will be many exciting app development opportunities. The Pebble will be able to pull data across the web without companion apps on the phone. And Bluetooth LE will be implemented, thus reducing battery consumption.
