If someone has any suggestions that would be great. I have flashed multiple roms but never had a desire to create one so I know my way around linux/andriod. Anyways my cache partition is screwed, it wont let me format it convert it anything. The only rom I can get to run on the tab is spacemooses gingerbread which clears everything on reboot. Sprint tab btw.
Have you tried going back to original stock? Do an Odin or Heimdall flash for EA24, and it should wipe everything out and get you back to normal.
yeap tried that and DJ30 both boot loop before even getting to the first sprint screen.
if you've tried the full EA24 flash with pit file to repartition the Tab, then you probably have a hardware issue if it's still boot looping. Are you able to get into stock recovery and try to do a factory wipe, and or cache wipe?
yea i have tried that also, i haven't tried with the pit file on EA24, it was on DJ30 that i used it. Anything Gingerbread based will boot to the second samsung screen and then just hang, anything Froyo based just boot loops at the first samsung screen, Spacemooses honeycomb will boot but take about a hour. When i try to wipe data/factory reset it says cannot format cache partition in factory recovery and clockwork. Ill post here in a bit the actually message it gives me.
I have the wifi only 7310 model of the 8.9
Overcme CwM Recovery 5.1.2.6
ROM was Galaxian Soup AOSP 1.6
My tablet resets during recovery. Half through a data wipe ROM install ROM backup or ROM restore it will reset and reboot.
It first happened when i booted into recovery and triedROM issue. to make a back up of m y current ROM and attempt to flash the aokp one. It reset during the backup process.
It shouldn't be a ROM issue. My tablet did this once before, it would reset when i did anything involvng dataon an Overcome ROM i think. Data wipe/backup etc. I left it alone while the ROM still worked and tried again a week later with no issues.
Any ideas? Now i have a soft brick that cant boot past the Samsung Screen. I can get into recovery and download modes.
EDIT* added a video
EDIT2:
The issue was solved.
What ended up happening what i attempted to flash back to stock software, ODIN would stall during the system.img. From this point i thought it was done, but i could still get into the stock recovery, i used the stock recovery to wipe the data after several failed attempts in a similar manner to this video.
One day it just worked. I could finally wipe data and cache without a reset. But i could't flash a file because ODIN would still freeze on the system.img. It was suwandiapr who showed me his walkthrough to push an file to recovery from adb. Thank you so much
I do NOT know why it my tablet/recovery starting resetting when i wanted to do a data/cache wipe/restore or why it decided to start doing it again. I tried the 5.5 cwm, the overcome 5.1 and the stock and none of them worked. Today i tried it on an off chance of boredom and it started working again. It is a confusing situation but that is what happened.
Again that you so much to Mr.Home and especially suwandiapr for all your help
> If you had a back up you can do advanced restore of just your system partition to get you tablet back on, though you will probably still have problem with the recovery
> If not, download the stock firmware tar.
Boot up to download mode using the power + vol combo.
flash the stock tar through odin.
boot up to download mode again.
this time flash the cwm recovery.
boot up to recovery mode.
wipe dalvikcache and data.
install aokp and gapps.
if it fails (cwm recovery stuck and reboots by itself during wiping /data partition or dalvik cache)
,chances are your data partition had been corrupted.
You can try fixing this by reflashing the stock firmware tar through odin again
just this time you need to have re-partition ticked.
and repeat above steps.
Take note that this will format the content your sd card too apart from the /data partition
EDIT: Please post this on the general section next time

Download Odin 1.85
Install Samsung USB drivers (should come with Kies)
Download stock firmware from samfirmware
Check the box beside PDA
Put the .md5 file into the PDA slot
Leave all other options on defaults
Put tablet into Download Mode (power and vol -, select the one that isn't recovery)
Connect it to your PC
Press START in Odin
Wait ~10 minutes
NOTE: this shouldn't wipe the internal sdcard. if you need to wipe that, select repartition and give Odin a PIT FOR THE P7310/7300 MAKE SURE IT'S THE RIGHT ONE OR YOU WILL BRICK BADLY.

I understand this might be a development related question, but questions do not belong here.
im still bricked so if ANYONE has any ideas please let me know.
Do you have a backup of yours in computer? If yes.. Push your file to device with adb...
Or replace with cwm 5.5.0.4.. ( if you not familiar with odin)
From cwm recovery 5.1.2.6 mount your /data and /system..
After that push your file (cwm 5.5.0.4. Zip and your backup file) to sdcard trough adb
Install cwm 5.5.0.4 from your recovery..then reboot..
Before you install your backup file.. Try to wipe and reboot your phone.. If problem still exist.. Your assumption about ROM may right.. But if your booting problem disappear.. I think its because yor recovery..

I never try it before.. how about stock recovery? It will wipe your data partition include SD card..But it worth to try if you dont like ODIN..
here is the zip version..Instal from recovery..
Edit: Do with your own risk..
After looking at the video, I noticed something similar that had happened to me before.
It happened when I tried to wipe the "cache" first, instead of wiping only the "dalvik cache".
After that, whenever i tried to wipe the dalvik cache/reset factory data,
the recovery reboots by itself halfway through.

Check the thread in my signature on the ODIN How-To, Drivers (no Kies/Bloat needed for drivers) and more. If I were you I'd ODIN so the Stock Recovery is restored in place. Looks like something went wrong in your CWM Recovery's installation (could be a bad download you had, it happens). All the files you need (except for the ODIN image) are in my General Guide.

Well, i just don't wipe cache. Only the dalvikcache and all went well..
I have a soft brick, no memory or sd card data. I can get into recovery but i don't have any files on the tablet to flash.
Are you windows user? if yes..
Just like my answer from previous post.. See page one!
Mount your /system and /data partition from recovery menu..(from cwm)
From your computer.. Use this tools for pushing the file flashable.zip to device..
After that you can flash a new rom from recovery..

Thank you so much sir. I worked and I no longer have a brick

Hi all,
Got a strange problem.. I'm using Nik project x v4.1 with .11 radio...today i got poor network signal, so I flashed radio again n it's working fine.
Then I planned to flash xcs kernel 2.2 and faceunlock for this Rom.
When I am recovery, I got message like. "You are in safe mode, please wipe cache. If u flashed hboot.img then format system"
I took nandroid and
1. fixed permission
2. Wiped cache
3. Format system
4. Flashed both zip files
When everything got over and upon clucking power menu->reboot got alert
"You are In safe mode. Unable to access system partitions. Please format system partition except sd. Reboot in recovery. Yes or no"
I clicked no and followed steps to install new Rom (wipe data factory, wipe cache n dalvik, format system, format partition except sd )restored my nandroid backup and again got same message that
"You are In safe mode. Unable to access system partitions. Please format system partition except sd. Reboot in recovery. Yes or no"
Please help me. Worrying that my mobile will be bricked. Please guide me to get rid off this..
Edit: I clicked reboot and my mobile booted normally. But under power menu, on clicking reboot, got into same problem. Please help me to avoid this. Worry something wrong in my mobile!!

When you formatted the /system partition, you wiped out Nik's ROM and then you only flashed a new kernel and a patch. That is why it you get the Unable to access system partitions.
You need to flash Nik's ROM again, then flash the kernel and then flash the patch.

Thanks tpbklake. Before formatting systems partition, I have taken nandroid backup. I restored nandroid but after that too, I got same alert.
Ok, I'll start from beginning. After flashing Nik Rom again, can I restore data.img from my nandroid.?

You changed the radio. Either gb -> ics or ics -> gb and this causes some change in the partition layout that's why recovery is asking you to format. What I don't understand is why you didn't just format the cache partition like it told you to. It would have saved us all some time.

I haven't changed the radio of two different versions. Earlier I was in ICS radio .11M and again flashed the same ICS radio..11M) Yes, I did cache format as well as instructed.
While flashing radio which supports same OS version, am I need to wipe cache or its not required?

If that's what the recovery is telling you to do, I would be inclined to agree.
I have an S5830D that I flash an CM7 rom to (APOCALYPSE-FINAL), I'm now looking at getting back to stock. I'm having trouble getting my CWM restore back. Now after doing some searching I realized I would need to flash a stock firmware version through odin. I went out and found what i believe is the correct firmware version for this Koodo model (the name is S5830DTLKI4_S5830DTLSKI4_S5830DTLKI4_HOME.tar.md5) and tried to flash it.
Everything in odin goes through fine up to the point where it restarts the phone, Ill attach a screenshot of what shows up for me. After the screen shows up is when I get stuck in a bootloop where the phone model shows, then the koodo bootanimation shows followed by the samsung logo. I should note though I still have complete access to recovery, the downloader mode, and even the CM rom when i restore that backup. The fact I have access to all those gives me hope as I'm sure this could be reversed.
Any advice on how I can restore this phone to stock would be greatly appreciated. I'm not very familiar with samsung devices so please try to be patient with me as I realize I have gotten into something over my head.
PS Sorry about the glare on the image its the best I could do as it disappears quickly.

If you have complete access to recovery mode, try wiping data and cache after flashing with Odin. That does the trick for me when I have a bootloop after flashing with Odin.

Agreed... reboot into recovery and clear cache and dalvik cache and then reboot.
So I've just completed a new flash with odin, I went in and flashed cwm then proceeded to factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, and I even do battery reset. Every wipe goes fine except for when I attempt to do the factory reset I received the following error:
Code:
E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
Even after those wipes it still bootloops but thats most likely as the factory reset didn't work.

Try not using CWM, or your SD card may be corrupt and you have to format it, I'm not sure though.

That did it, for some reason I had this thought in my head I had to flash cwm right away and clear stuff that way. Once odin finished I went in recovery and wiped data and cache through the stock recovery and it booted right up. Thanks for the help really appreciate it.
Hey guys . I formatted /system and /boot when i entered CWM, i formatted cache and wiped data, and flashed a new rom, but when i hit "reboot" the phone restarted and the image with the writing "GALAXY S GT-i9000" apears and remains here, the phone won't boot anymore (i formatted /system and /boot because i thought the rom would install more freshly and would not apear problems, but i didn't need to format those :|).
I can't enter anymore in CWM Recovery (probably deleted because i formatted /system) or stock Recovery :| , the only thing that works is Download Mode. :\
What you recommend to do to fix this?
I saw the tutorial with fastboot to flash a new boot.img but i formatted the /system too. Most probably this will not fix anything. Another way i though of, is to flash via Odin a new Software but, after i formatted the /system and /boot i already installed a new rom but didn't booted anymore after reboot, although i think this will not be a problem because will overlay the already rom or something, but i'm not sure and i'm not sure i will find a software that i can flash through odin.
I don't have an external sd card, only internal memory that comes with the phone.
I also read that you can format /system if you don't reboot it after you format it and flash the rom. Could be the problem only the /boot that i formatted? I just need to flash a boot.img, if yes, how do i do it, with that softwares.
Thank you a lot in advance!

First of all i think that if you formatted the system and you didn't have an external sd card you might have wiped everything off your device . But lets try some options first. If you flashed a GB or JB rom most times the partition is changed and you have to remove the battery during the start-up (called a boot loop) this is normal. So try to reboot your device but when you have seen your samsung logo and such for a couple of minutes remove the battery, then replace the battery and start as if normal. If that doesn't solve your problem then you will have to put the phone in download mode and manually reflash your device using odin to stock then try all over again with your new rom. In the future, when you try using CWM again just do a factory reset, clear cache partition and under advanced clear dalvik cache then install from sd card, scool down and choose the rom then highlight it (volume up and down arrows) and install (power button).
You killed the bootloader of the phone, flash it back via Odin

Hi MihaDani93,
I'm having the exact same problem, I rooted with CF-Root, then cleared cache/dalvik and formatted system and rebooted on a stock 2.3.6 model i9000. It also stucks at the Samsung logo splash screen and freezes.
Only thing is I dont have the original stock ROM. I don't know how to reflash the phone.
Can you tell me in detail how you reflashed to stock with what files and where I can get those files from? PIT, PDA, PHONE and CSC md5 files and so on?
Thank you very much in advance!
