Guys, I'm having a problem which is driving me crazy!! It keeps restarting by itself.
The device has been bought from the store (not second-hand or something) and since then, I had no problems with it. I've dropped it two times on the floor, but after that was working fine, no problems.
From the beginning I've rooted and installed ARHD on it (now I have 41.0), and from about 2 weeks (the last drop on the floor was about 1-2 months ago) it keeps restarting. The phone freeze suddenly and then restarts. I thought that maybe is something regarding an application, but no, 'cause rarely during restart (when the One logo appears) it restarts again - again, rarely this scenario happens.
There is any chance to try something and see if is working, or normally I should take it back to the store (I don't think that they will receive it, since it has some traces from dropping)?

that's good, but did you restore anything with Titanium backup or any other backup software? this can cause a lot of problems when moving from 4.3 to 4.4

I've tried that, yes. I don't remember exactly, but this was happening also on 30.x, reason for which I've decided to do the update, in order to see if the problem persist.

Yes, I've restored some things from titanium; but, before, on 30.x was working fine and suddenly began to restart by itself - that's why I don't see the point about restoring from backup, since the restart issue began before updating to new ROM version.

the point is you moved the problem from 30.x to 40.x with the backup
Do a complete Wipe and clean install and see if your problem goes away
complete wipe includes factory reset + /cache /delvik
Ideally I would RUU back to stock and see if my phone is really broken or not

aha..could be this too, right . So, your advice is to make a clean installation (factory reset) and let it that way for several days with basic apps, to see the behavior?

I received my phone back a few days ago and I instantly flashed Cyan 5.0.6 test 3.
However I have a really annoying issue where my Market isn't quite 'correct'.
It seems to be missing the 'top paid' tab.
It also takes an age to load the info for any app I click on and the status stays at 'installing' even though it is installed and it will only refresh when I reboot.
I have tried to restore the backed up propriety apps, nandroid backup and restore, flashed a stock rom, flashed cyan 5.0.1
But NOTHING works.
I know the slow market is related to the missing tab, it's like half of the market app hasn't loaded properly.
I had this issue before my phone went off for repair and one day it fixed (I don't know how) but as soon as it did, it performed as it should and it took seconds to load app data and install, it also stated the app was installed.
I suppose what I'm looking for is HOW can I completely reload the Market from scratch?
Thanks guys.
J
Wow that is so weird... I assume you do wipe/cache/dalvik before flashing a ROM right? Have you tried cyan 5.0.6 yet? If not, give it a try, do the wipe before flash of course, and hope that works... Also, do you have a backup app? like titanium back up or back up pro? Did you set it to auto restore perhaps? Probably just a bad market back up? Thats all I can think about... If it doesnt work, then its beyond me brother

Hi Man,
I know it's really bugging me.
I've tried everything including wiping the Dalvik and normal cache.
I think I might try Enomer's ROM to see if that solves it but I can only tether at the moment as we've moved house and I won't have BB back for 2 weeks.
I have Titanium pro installed as I have over 400 apps on my phone!
Hey bro,
Apparently there have been a few reports about the same issue with the market, probably has something to do with the market update. Anyway, try uninstalling the market via titanium if you can that is. And reinstall. Nandroid before doing it.

Hi, I just installed the Andromeda ROM on my Captivate, and quickly realized that i can't receive any calls. I can, however, make calls. If there's a quick fix for this, that would be great, if not, I guess I'll have to flash back to another ROM... Thanks.
Not a rom issue cause I have been running andromeda for three dates with no such issue.
first have you asked this on the rom thread?
Have you tried going into airplane mode then back?
Reboot?
Different modern?

I keep getting the force close vibration pattern, and it says phone keeps getting force closed. What can I do?
Go into recovery, clear davlik cache under advanced options, reflash rom.
Did you restore things with titanium backup, and if so did you restore any system data
Just curious why you would suggest clearing cache then reflash rom when the script is going to wipe it anyway?

I am experiencing the same issue, and I didn't quite understand this last post. Did you just reflash and not recover your system data as others recommended? Or is there something else you did to correct the problem?
Thanks for the help.

You're going to have to reflash, like they said. I did this the first time I flashed a ROM and though "Oh great.. I knew I shouldn't have flashed from stock...", but I just reflashed and didn't restore system data, and all has been working great since then.
Fixed
That fixed it. Reflashed Andromeda and restored only apps with Titanium Backup, not system data. Everything seems to be working great now.
Thanks.
Hey,
this problem started only today and has never happened before. The only things changing were some app updates and a few new installs. I already uninstalled all of the apps installed in the last few days in hopes of reverting the situation but it didn't help. And after I made the first reboot when the apps began to force close randomly it looked like a semi factory reset was made. All my contacts are gone, there are no SMS/call logs, but all SMSes, pictures and videos are still there. If I try to open the Market app it asks me if I accept TOS, Gmail is not set, mobile internet is not working (due to reset settings), Wi-Fi and bluetooth settings are still there. In short, everything is half-fuc*ed.
What do you thing happened? And is there any possibility I can go back to a normal state without starting from fresh?

i9000 random loss of data
Yes, this is a rather old thread I'm trying to revive here, but as it is adviced to continue those instread of duplicating them, here are my issues:
I gave my i9000 to a relative ~a year ago and recently it started acting strange. About 1-2 times a month I get a call from that relative saying: "I get a lot of force closes, phone is unusable, nothing works". I then walk over, take a look and yes, unusable. It appears that all information in the /system partition gets lost for no reason. The relative told me that this usually happens when some google apps are updating, but it might still be random.
Currently MackayRom (latest) is installed.
Usually when I got the call, I hopped over to my relative, did a factory reset (wipe of /system and /data + Cache and Dalvik Cache) then reflashed the ROM and Gapps and everything looked good again. Sadly the issue continues to return.
What I tried so far is a complete wipe of anything, reverting to a stock TW Rom, and going back to an AOSP Rom from there (first CM 11, then Mackay). The issue appeard to be gone afterwards, I didn't hear from that relative for an unusual amount of time, but after a month or 1 1/2, it returned.
My guess is, that one of the chips that are containing the /system partition is broken or at least close to die (I'm not sure if it is just one or multiple chips, since the CM Team or Pawit himself changed something in the partition structure somewhere between cm10, cm10.1 and cm11 to ensure the compatibility of that old device with KitKat). Anyways, I'd love to hear any ideas or suggestions on how to solve this issue (although I reached a point where I think that solving this isn't possible anymore, unless I wanna swap the Mainboard, which would mean paying an amount of money that I could get a new phone for as well.) Soon as I have the time, I'll Odin-flash the latest TW Rom to the device and have my relative use that for a while, just to see if the different/older partition structure helps in any way.
Thanks in advance for any replies .
This morning my phone froze while i was on facebook, and the only way i could get it working again was to take out the battery. So this worked, all is well in the world! Then this afternoon, it did it again. Just froze while i was in an application.
So i did the battery trick again, except now im stuck in a loop. i turn it on it goes from HTC to cyanogen start up screen, then the a black screen, then back to the cyanogen start up screen. And thats literally all my phone is doing now.
Anybody have any ideas how i go about fixing this issue?
I was running cyanogenmod 7.1, with hboot 1.16 (bootloader unlocked), but it was s-on i used lynts guide to unlock bootloader and install the customer rom (cyanogenmod)
Any help would be great
Thank you

Did you do a full wipe before flashing cm7.1?
Full wipe = factory reset + format /data, /cache and /system.

yeah i did all of that, ive been running cyanogen 7.1 for about 3 week. and then today it just did this. I can get into hboot menu, i noticed in another topic somebody stated go into recovery and reinstall from sd card. So i did this, but im just stuck in the cyanogen loop again.
Should i try full wiping it all again, and then reinstalling cyanogen again?
hi. try to see if you can restore the HTC RUU. put your phone in fastboot and download this RUU and let it do the work.

hope it works.
right, ive managed to sort it out. I did a factory wipe, and reinstalled the rom and then flashed the rom through CMD becasue ive got hboot 1.16
Is there a way to create a backup or this, and if it ever happens again i can just restore the backup i create, and i dont have to flash the image or use CMD. As its just took ages to set my phone up to how i want it etc.
I know i have something called nandroid backups but im not really sure how to use that to its full advantage?
I'm sure somebody knows?

Nandroid backup is a backup which backups the whole system. Including contacts, apps, data, etc.
Cool eh? And not to forget it will backup your current rom.
To do nandroid backup, you have to boot to recovery (e.g. clockworkmod). Select backup and restore, then press backup. Once done, you're done!
Keep in mind if you flashed another rom and wanted to restore the backup you've done, you have to take the boot.img, restore via recovery, and then flash boot.img via fastboot.
It could be found at /sdcard/clockworkmod/backups/2011.12.29 - 21.15/boot.img
About the 2011.12.29 - 21.15 (example), that is an info on what date and time (obviously) you did a nandroid backup.

The only 'maintenance' you can do that doesn't affect your setup and installed apps would be to Clear Cache and Clear Dalvik Cache in recovery mode. If you perform a Full Wipe/System Reset, you will lose you installed apps, messages, settings ,etc.
Hi tpbklake,
In terms of maintenance, you could always check out a couple of apps I use regularly.
SD Maid and Root Explorer are a good way of keeping your SD card clean and healthy and help clear up inconsistencies in directories.
They don't make much of a difference to the functionality of the phone drastically, but do help nonetheless.
Hope it's of some use to you.

I can install Ultimate JB XXLSA v5 without any problem, go through the setup, connect to Wi-Fi etc. but as soon as I install any apps, or restore an app from a Nandroid backup, the phone won't re-boot again. It always hangs at the initial Samsung Galaxy Note banner screen.
There seems to be many posts reporting similar behaviour but not, as far as I can see, where the problem only arises after installing an app.
I am making sure to wipe Cache, Data, Dalvik Cache and all that first but the result is always the same. I was looking forward to XXLSA but this driving me crazy. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Are you restoring apps only ? or are you restoring system data too ?
Try to install app only (No app data) incase theres a roque app causing it, Or try to install your apps 1 by 1 until the problem occurs, I know its a PITA but it will identify the culprit.
You were right! Mystery solved - well partly. Turns out Titanium Backup Pro was causing it on my phone for some reason. This was naturally the first app I wanted to install so I could restore apps one by one from the Nandroid backup. I tried Quickboot too which also caused the same problem so because TB and then QB did the same thing I assumed every app was going to cause trouble. Shouldn't jump to conclusions, I know.
I have JB Ultimate XXSLA v5 installed and am restoring my apps one at a time from Google Play and making new Nandroid backups as I go along.
And now I just tried installing TB free version - the phone boots normally! Then I installed the TB Pro version and again the phone boots normally. When TB was the first app I installed after the ROM upgrade it hung up the phone every time on 6 attempts. I'll try re-installing Quickboot now and see what happens. Conclusion: I must have been doing something in the wrong sequence but can's see what.
Many thanks for your help.
