I have a HTC one which I bought from bangkok(I live in India though) and found out here it was actually rooted already with Venom Tweaks (ViperOne 1.2.1) and thus I don't have the original stock phone(Though I don't mind if what I have in mind is possible, that is upgrading). I wanted to try out a different ROM(if that's what it's called, as in the firmware for the phone.. sorry I am relatively a complete novice in this field) and see what it has to offer since I am having a few troubles, like whenever I go in there it asks me to pay and sometimes the screen just kinda freezes when I pull down the slider. So I have a few sorted out questions as below:
1. Is it possible to upgrade or change the basic ROM(ViperOne 1.2.1 in this case) if your phone is already rooted and has superuser?
2. Which is the best ROM for a enthusiast?
Note: I am very fond of knowledge and will love to learn bout all of this so please provide suggestions for a ROM which has the most capabilities and is considered one of the best by a developer who would own the phone, without regard bout the complexity of its features.
3. If any, please include any links/information that I will need to go about this, I will really appreciate the guidance of a senior member to help me by providing links/info bout how to do this step-by-step and sometimes just to clear up a few concepts.
I would greatly appreciate anyone who would help me in this, thanks.
you phone has been unlocked and in it the previous owner installed a Custom ROM and Recovery
1) yes you can update and you should update the ROM to the latest
the latest version of ViperOne ROM is 4.0.1 LINK
2) best ROM decision is totally based in your own opinion
try variety of them and see which one suits your liking
on xda we can't and we should not compare or debate which ROM or Kernel is the best
and for keeping your phone updated (firmware etc), view some these guides

Goodness, I never expected so much info overflow haha, I am really sorry but I am like a complete novice as I said before. Will it be ok to ask a few more things?
So basically, since I will be able to update the firmware(which I am happy bout).. I just need to understand a few basic concepts:
1. What do we mean by updating recovery?
2. what's twrp? what's the difference between twrp and cwp(or that clockworkmod thingy?)?
3. What link do I need to follow exactly? The first one or the second one?
[Note: Currently my phone is on the ViperOne 1.2.1 but I have no idea bout if its S-off or S-on and whatever else I need to know before I start doing this]
4.Some links I was trying to see was talking bout the dual sim htc one, i have the 32 gb single sim version, is there any difference? can i go with files from dual sim htc one links?]
5. If its absolute necessary to know the basic details of everything, any links which would go back to basics such as stripping down basic meaning of many terms used throughout? aorp etc etc, they all just make me feel dizzy haha
Please try to put this down in laymen's language for me if possible? I will be greatly thankful

first of all you should know your device and every detail is mandatory for safety purposes because without knowing the details you can brick your device
some FAQs: link
1 & 2) TWRP is a Custom Recovery just like CWM (ClockWorkMod)
we need to use latest recovery to flash latest Android 4.4 KitKat based ROMs
3) read the link above because it's quite detailed for S-OFF
EDIT: sorry i gave you the wrong links
read this first here
and guide full detailed guide here for achieving S-OFF
you should get S-OFF for flashing latest firmware (for best performance) for your beautiful One
firmware sometimes contains RADIO(signal and WiFi), TOUCH, SOUND, BATTERY etc drivers for best performance
4) you should stick your single SIM model and forums
Dual SIM model is bit different, don't know how but it is different from single SIM
5) as i already said you should know all the details and terms
I am so thankful to you Kamil, you walked me through every step and I greatly appreciate your help, I am really thankful to you for this, you are awesome!!! :good:
Now have ViperOne 4.0.1 ROM with Latest Firmware and EliminatorK kernel along with customized splashshots and boot screens. So awesome! YOU ROCK!

Hi. I had trouble getting my Optimus One from Koodo Mobile rooted. So, here is some info that I hope will help others get through the process a bit faster. I mainly followed the instructions in various threads from XDA, but I needed to do things differently.
!!! REMEMBER, THIS IS INFORMATION FROM A BIT OF A NOOB. I'M JUST TRYING TO HELP.
!!! ALSO, I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILTY FOR ANYTHING GOOD OR BAD THAT COMES FROM APPLYING WHAT IS SAID IN THIS THREAD.
!!! THIS INFORMATION IS ONLY INTENDED FOR USE ON THE OPTIMUS ONE FROM KOODO MOBILE RUNNING FIRMWARE VERSION 10v.
It is probably not worth asking me any questions, since I barely got through the process properly myself.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Drivers
So, first I installed the LG PC Suite software because I think that gets you the USB drivers needed for this phone. I think LG calls it "Download LG Mobile Support Tool to PC" on their support site at:
http://www.lg.com/sg/support/product/support-product-profile-mobile-redux.jsp?customerModelCode=Optimus%20One%20P500&initialTab=drivers&targetPage=support-product-profile-mobile-redux
Telus 2.2 firmware version V10G_00
So, since android 2.2.1 is not rootable on Optimus One, I had to downgrade to android 2.2. I found a link to a Telus version of P500h that is android 2.2 at the following link (make sure you download the one that ends in "V10G_00.kdz"):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12253960#post12253960
Installing Telus firmware using KDZ
I followed steps #2 through #8 from the following link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875881
KDZ worked well, just so you know.
Rooting
Now I used "z4root" to permanently root. It was super easy (way easier than rooting my MT3G Slide). z4root is NOT in the market anymore so you need to sideload it onto your SD storage, then install it with any apk manager.
This site:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901247
led me to this site, where I downloaded z4root from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
After that, I was all rooted up... finally.
So, I obviously am NOT trying to take any credit for the real efforts made by others. I want to say thank you to all people involved with the links and programs I referred to. I really appreciate what people do for others here at XDA. My phones would not be rooted or other kinds of fun without those people.
THANKS!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
On a bit of a side note, you might want to unlock you phone too... so you could use it with FIDO, etc. So, I used a site called "mobileincanada". It was $20 and took less than 24 hrs to get the code. I was happy with that.
Nice write-up, I had to follow a similar path. The most trouble I had was finding a firmware that worked.. I ended up using the same TELUS firmware. It works great, much faster than the original Koodo firmware.
Sorry for my question: what is the difference between your P500h and the other P500 devices? is it a branded device with special firmware?
I thought, all P500 can be flashed with every P500 *.kdz (for country) or XDA ROMs
for P500
I wished you wrote this yesterday but thanks. I figured it out yesterday . This is the sickest 150$ phone I have ever had. I get 1100 quadrant score :O
If you want a stock, rooted 2.2.1 (Telus V10S - same as Koodo's stock V10v)
You'll need a custom recovery to flash it: [DEV] Custom Recovery P500/Thunderg

Thanks Kwen! This is very useful - now no need for the kdz updater.
Edit: or now we can keep the Koodo version of 2.2.1 and just root it using Gingerbreak (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765) - no KDZ needed, no recovery needed (prior to root). Obviously, recovery is still recommended after root.
the only question that i have is where can i GET the stock 2.2.1 for my provider? i'm with Koodo, and i live the custom roms, but i need to flash back to stock to see if i can get my mms working correctly again. and i apologize in advance if this is the wrong thread.

Hello everyone, and thank you for taking time out of your day to read this message.
HTC Vivid (Holiday?)
Android Version: 4.0.3
HTC Sense: 3.6
Kernel: 3.0.16
(If I need to include anything else, please let me know.)
So basically here's what I've done:
1) I've unlocked bootloader with HTC Dev
2) I've used Fastboot Command with WCXRecovery.img
I used a guide that I found somewhere on the internet, which I cannot find now. (Will look for it if necessary for addressing the issue.)
I would have used the All-in-One toolkit, but for some reason I couldn't get it to work (I'm pretty good at being a noob.)
In the guide, I used a Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed but the guide had said to use a su-bin-3.3.0.2-efghi-signed.zip because it just wouldn't work properly
I feel like I should have read more upon doing this.
The problems are: Bad signal, especially when I first did all of this.
When I start up bootloader it states: PH39DIAG.zip image not found, it says this for about 5 lines.
Other than that, the phone runs fine. Any help would be appreciated as I have many questions that I cannot find the answers for.

The 5 lines that occur when you boot into the bootloader are normal. It is checking for files. This feature can be later used when going back to stock. The bad signal maybe just a coincidence try flashing a new rom if you want to. Download the files from the superguide to gain root.

The signal is fine. After a couple of hours it went back to normal
I was worried for a moment there.
I have a few questions...
How beneficial is S-OFF?

With my current setup:
Android Version : 4.0.3
HTC Sense : 3.6
Kernel Version: 3.0.16
Would it be possible to just use that ROM without doing anything else?
I'm currently on S-ON.
_
Last question (I promise.) Would I be able to use any Kernel with that ROM?
Again thank you for your time & patience.
Peace.

What is beneficial about s-off you say. Well first of all you can flash as many roms as you please without having to be near a computer. Also with s-off you can return back to stock using any ruu. You can manipulate the information on the bootloader screen to make it seem like you did nothing for warranty purposes. You can use almost all the roms for this phone without s-off including the one you mentioned. I have onto seen one s-off needed rom still. Most of the kernel will work with the rom you mentioned but do your research before doing so. Also read the stickies into the devolpment section. Might been the most useful 30 mins wasted in your life.

Hello,
I have an htc one from o2. I want to root it to google edition. Iam a noob at this so can someone show me the way or links to a tutorial please.
Is it worth doing? whats the advantages of a rooted phone? sorry for the questions but i have come from iphone to android so iam new to all this.
thanks
My advice is keep studying, install the sdk and get good at adb and comfortable! Once you're ready and able use a guide for your phone and read it a couple times before you start. Most importantly don't stop any operations you attempt in mid stream follow through and don't reboot until you know it's all good. Hope it's as fun for you as it was for me.

thanks for that, but that means nothing to me.Whats the advantages etc. Is it worth it. i can follow tutorials etc. just need to know what the best guide is etc
If you don't know what the advantages of a rooted phone are and what root means, why are you trying to do it? To be honest I don't even understand your post - do you want to root your rom, have a rooted google edition rom or fully convert to a google edition phone?

sorry for the confusion. Like i say im new to this.
I dont know the difference, i know rooting that you can put custom roms on it, but whats the difference and best, do fully make it google edition or put a custom rom on?

First off, you don't need to be rooted to flash a custom rom - all you need is a custom recovery after you unlock your bootloader. A good guide for noobs to read is the one by mike1986 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265618
If I were you, I'd stick to just flashing a google edition rom to see if you like it, rather than doing a full conversion. This way you can easily get back to stock. This rom is 4.3 Google edition and already rooted:

Read the guide above carefully though. Especially the parts about backing up stock, or you'll be back here later asking for help..

Hey guys,
So I recently got the HTC One Remix (the Verizon version of the HTC One Mini 2) and I would like to root it and install a custom ROM for it (preferably Cyanogenmod). The problem is verizon makes it hard to do any of these things and sadly switching carriers isn't really an option any time soon so I am trying to make do.
HTC-Dev reportedly won't work with verizon phones and many of the solutions for the HTC One Mini 2 don't work for the Remix even though they are essentially the same phone. Cyanogenmod has the HTC One Mini 2 listed as a supported device but I am not sure if that will work with the Remix because a carrier is not specified.
I have yet to see anyone who has had any luck, so is there anyone out there at all who is running a custom ROM on a rooted HTC One Remix? If so, what did you use to obtain root (sunshine maybe?) and what custom ROM are you running?
I'm majorly new to this sort of thing so hopefully the solutions are relatively easy so I don't end up bricking my phone.
Any help at all would be much appreciated!

As far as I can see there aren't many hardware differencec between the two phones. The only problem is that at this point there is no other way of unlocking these phones then trough HTC dev. I don't think there is a lot of development going on with unlocking with other methods. How do you know HTC dev isn't supporting your device? Did you check if "All other supported models" in the list?

It a verizon exclusive and HTC Dev doesn't work on verizon phones. The carrier blocked it. There's also a disclaimer somewhere deep on the htc site.
Thanks though. I'm just frustrated because I like the phone but I also really want to root it. I've tried a couple of the easier methods like sunshine and towelroot and those don't work I'm only on 4.4.2 but with my low skill level in this area I'm not sure if there's much I can do. I know s-off and root aren't the same thing but that's supposed to make it easier to find a way to achieve root right?
Aha then i'm afraid there isn't much you can do. Only wait for s-off because but I don't think it is goanna happen. My previous device is a One X and they had a huge user/developer base but never achieved s-off. It seems HTC really did a good job at closing this down.

Can't remember the exact cmd line.. something like adb flash recovery <file>
Now for the rom, I'll have to see if the link I got it from is still valid when I get home. There's a guy 'jcase' I think on the IRC that uploaded his personal backup that worked for me.
To be clear, the rom is for the HTC One 'remix' - Verizon's branded HTC one mini 2. There is NO working cyanogenmod that I know of.
btw you will need the TWRP recovery to restore from the rom backup when you get it, so the stock recovery might only be useful if the flash still has the recovery image on it.
Certainly worth trying first.
Good luck,

Xda Devs, please we HTC one remix users need a custom Rom and s-off for our device.... We would really appreciate it if you help us
Hello, this is my first time posting on this forum, so hi to everyone.
My question is pretty simple: I have bought a Samsung GT-i9305. I didn't know that it is a branded version (T-Mobile, if anyone knows how to check exactly what version that is, tell me and I'll try to provide necessary information) though. Now there comes my question. Is it possible to remove all of the android rom that is installed on this device and replace it with a fresh, non-branded version? Even stock samsung 4.4 android would be sufficient for my needs. I just need some guidance because I'm afraid I'll brick my phone if i do something wrong and I wouldn't want that. The branded soft annoys me very much, everytime I do an update of the system it installs some useless aplications (they have German names, so my guess would be that this branding is T-Mobile german edition, bought it in Poland though). What's more, I also tried to root the device a few months ago, but to no effect, and now it says that my device has been modified when I try to update it.
I hope this is the right board to ask the question.
I can't give screenshots of the device information because of spam protection for new users. Maybe I can give them to you via PM, if anyone would be interested in helping me.
Thanks in advance to everyone trying to help me.
EDIT: I also tried to install a cyanogen mod on this device and I got the message that this device isn't supported by cyanogen mod.
First make sure of the model of the phone. You should see it in "settings -> about device -> model number"
If you have the i9305, then you could check out this thread by @MaHo_66. It has a nice collection of de-bloated stock 4.4.4 roms.
First you will have to root your phone and install a custom recovery. HERE is a good guide to start, again from @MaHo_66
Make sure you hit his thanks button if you find them helpful.
Yeah, of course it's helpful. Thanks a lot! I liked your post and I'll definitely try the guides you linked.
Baseband version: I9305XXUEMK1
Build number: JSS15J.I9305XXUEML5
I can't seem to find such versions in this thread

I wouldn't worry too much about matching build versions, just try a build for your country/region and you shouldn't have any dramas. If you can find a build that uses your provider, you can benefit from the most optimized baseband, but any should work well for your country
