I switched when I got this phone two weeks ago... no bricking or anything. I haven't measured anything but the phone feels quick and smooth.
It won't brick your device but do note that ART is in an alpha stage and not all apps are compatible with it yet, so you may not be able to run everything you can with Dalvik
Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
I used art for a couple of weeks. It FELT a little quicker, but only slightly so, and this could have been a placebo effect. I'm back on dalvik, now--mostly because xposed framework is not compatible with art.
Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
i don't personally feel it's a substantial enough speed increase and i have yet to see any type of battery increase. however, the primary benefit of ART is applications are compiled as they are installed, which means shorter load times and better usability. dalvik requires compilation at the launch of the app. if your dalvik cache is cleared, or gets too large, there can be complications with load times, system performance, etc. (which is why so many people suggest clearing that cache).
the fundamental benefits of ART are the reasons i chose to stick with it.

Xposed doesn't work on ART. It automatically switches to Dalvik everytime you try to use ART. You've been using Dalvik for a long time and you didn't even noticed. One more reason to believe ART (at least on Moto X) is just placebo.
Enviado de meu XT1058 usando Tapatalk
I used ART for about a week before returning to Dalvik for the Xposed Framework, and I definitely have better battery life using Dalvik. I'd noted this in another topic and another member had replied in agreement. He'd also noted better scrolling in some apps but lesser battery life using ART. Now, that's not saying you'll get 3 hours screen time using ART versus 4.5 using Dalvik, but the difference was enough to be noticeable.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48616638&postcount=6
I was using ART once 4.4 got pushed to our phones.
I turned it off once I saw all the changes for ART that went into 4.4.1 and 4.4.2, so once we get 4.4.2 I'll turn it back on....that is if i can give up xposed.
I will only switch to ART once Xposed is compatible with it. Until then Dalvik it is.

I made the same mistake, thinking I was still on ART after installing Xposed Framework. The installer doesn't notify you that it's switching you back to dalvik. Your only indication of this change is when you get the 'android is updating' message upon rebooting.

Totally agree. I have great battery life and stability as well. I've used art almost from very beginning.
I've been using ART on stock 4.4.2 rooted and its been great. No problems with any of the apps I used, but I also don't use xposed. I didn't notice any differences in battery life between ART and Dalvik. :good:

I take it back. I am unable to get my moto x to boot iwith ART. I set it as an option, but something is causing it to default to dalvik during boot. I uninstalled Xposed but that did not change the result.
I have an "android is upgrading", with each power on for 4 items now. Unrooted & 442.
Seems strange to me.
Has anyone found a way to get the long press volume to skip track mod on art? That mod is the only think keeping me on dalvik because I use it a ton.

I feel like the device is much snappier. I heard battery is supposed to be better with it as well but I can't confirm. The xda app was never the best , now it is almost fluid o.o. or at least noticeably better. What do you have to say ?
i was told to add this:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/1qbko3/art_broken_apps/
edit: I would like to add that the apps i notice this most is for instance, when i use hangouts and i'd right ALOOOOOOOT with someone and then scroll up at a fast rate, it would stutter. Now, this stutter is nearly gone.
XDA - xda app is one of the most noticeable, stutter has been reduced by such a large margin that you'd have to try it yourself to believe it.
G+ would have the occasional hickup when scrolling through news posts. Next stop would be the play store, it used to stutter a lot as well, now it's become a lot better. Just for the hell of it i compared it to my sister's note 2 and the difference is there.
I doubt this is a placebo effect, i'm even considering to make a video as proof with dalvik on and off for the hell of it.

Well, it's kind of obvious, if you want the best experience for now you're going to want to go with the official 4.4, since the developers need their time to work their magic.
I have no crashes, i'm using ART so far cause i could care less about what's app. I'll report in about battery life observations once i've at least had this thing running for a whole day.
Feels really smooth so far; don't use any apps that crash(thankfully) on ART. Hard to tell with the battery as I came off a custom kernel that was picked for low power usage. Like with any new firmware, it usually takes a few days of my phone running before I can really judge things. Got to give all the apps running a little time to muck things up to get a solid feel for real world performance; but I'm hopeful from what the past few hours performance/battery wise.

Just switched to art on today's stock KitKat after running art on nexus 5 port for a week. No stability issues and have 165 apps installed with no bugs. Battery life is improved by approximately 15% and performance is much quicker

It's not worth the hassle in my opinion. I couldn't notice any tangible difference, performance-wise. I tried it on SlimKat, though. I may probably give it a second try now on stock but the whole idea of having non-working apps like Whatsapp and TiBu just takes the appealing away for now.
Could this just an elaborate hoax to test the placebo effect of Android optimization? I don't understand the true potential if it.

Same here. ART has been working fine for me as well. I don't know that I really notice it being a lot faster but it sure doesn't appear any slower either. I believe Titanium Backup, which I use, had an issue as well but a THINK they have issued an update for that.

I haven't switched to ART on my Moto X yet because I generally treat me phone as needing to be stable all the time. I did switch to ART on my Nexus 7, though, and most apps worked just fine. My Yahoo Sports app experiences a very long delay (~5 seconds) when I try to look at any individual game stats for the first time after I open the app.
My NFL Sunday Ticket app also doesn't appear to be as stable, sometimes force closing which I didn't usually get before, but I haven't done back-to-back testing to see if it's actual cause/effect.
Good to know. Im using Gravitybox and i have noticed the performance slowed down a bit. But nothing important.

I just switched to ART last night on my moto x and am having the same experience you detail. If an app is already open, its lightening fast to respond/open back up. But some apps when opening for the first time take longer than they did on dalvik. Facebook for instance, takes nearly twice as long to initially open.
Tip (if you havent already) - under developer options, change the window, transition and animator duration to .5 seconds (down from 1 second). Its literally instantaneous moving between apps and such.
Anyone having issues with switching to ART? Every time I pick the ART option, the phone reboots and just reverts back to Dalvik. This is on a Moto X Dev. Edition.
I switched to apps and I think I noticed things going smoother and faster (scrolling and opening-switching apps). But that just might be the placebo effect at work.
Then WhatsApp stopped working so I had to switch back to dalvik

I had ART enabled with CM11, but after some days I switch back to Dalvik. I have no application issues but every time I update CM (using nightly so this happen very often) and the system gain clean caches, the rebuilding takes way too long (which is not a primary problem) and the phone was very, very hot (and I mean really VERY HOT). And this was the primary issue I solved switching back to Dalvik.

Has anyone notice their x get slower over time? In the first month mine was great but now I notice a bit of lag. While an app is updating its almost useless to try and do anything else. I don't have that many apps installed and I'm on stock 4.4.2 art.
I have noticed this on occasion. A couple things seem to help me. 1. Hitting the recent apps button on the nav bar and swiping some apps away seems to help. 2. If that doesn't help, a restart will usually does the trick.

Sounds like it's an app running. My MotoX can update apps no problem; I'm on Dalvik with 10+ Xposed Modules running. Pretty sure it's just an app.
It's the app. I got mine stock rooted and never slows down for a few months now. Even after a bunch of apps installed.
So figure out which one causing it. Unfortunately sometimes it's not immediate so it's really tough to figure out which.
Good luck.

Which battery you have used for your moto x ?
I just installed 4.4.3. This thread is for discussion of all things 4.4.3 related to Nexus 4.
I've attached a picture of the new dialer.
1. Dialer
2. Radio awesomeness: Wi-Fi connection established much faster than before. Remember how some networks couldn't be found easily? That's gone as well. When you turn off Wi-fi, cellular data connects in less than 3 seconds.
3. Shutting down takes longer than usual.
If you can't wait for OTA anymore, here is a way to install 4.4.3:
