Trouble flashing jfbs kitkat rom - Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4G

I have tried multiple times to flash jfbs's Kitkat rom without sucess. I am using CWM 6.0.4.5 from his OP, have tried different downloads of the rom, have done multiple wipes and factory resets, all to no avail.
After the install I get the boot animation that runs for about five minutes then boots to a black screen with the status or navigation bar (the one on top of the screen with battery level and signal strength) but the bar is on the bottom and the rest of the screen is black. Any help would be appreciated.
I am able to flash other roms without a problem including Kitkang v1 by Awsome.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have seen the status bar problem, but it normally goes away after a couple of seconds, the longest I had it was about 3 mins when opening Facebook. Try wiping everything including internal SD. Not you external. See it that helps

I have noticed the status bar on the bottom since the 12\25 build. Changed a few things with a test build last night and it is still present. Do you get a black screen with builds prior to 12\25?

When I do a wipe data/factory reset isn't that wiping my internal SD?

No. It wipes data partition and cache.

I have not tried an earlier build recently, but tried the 12/08 build when it first came out and it worked ok. I'll try to install the 12/08 build again and maybe dirty flash to the most recent build.

Sorry for the noob question, but how do I wipe the internal SD?

I would try that too. I really don't know why its giving you troubles, but you shouldn't have to wipe sdcard even though it's recommended. I have some newer builds, but I'm trying to get the stock camera working before I upload another.

Go to wipe > advanced wipe and select sdcard, then swipe to confirm.
Edit: noticed you're using cwm, so hold on and I'll switch to that and get back in a few.

In cwm go to mounts and storage and select format /storage/sdcard0.

Did the wipe of the internal SD and still have the same problem.
I have the battery stat and the signal strength on the bottom right corner and black screen. When it goes to sleep after 30 seconds or so I can press the power button and it brings up the unlock screen which when I unlock brings me back to the black screen.

Did you wipe sdcard, install 12\08, reboot, boot back to recovery and installed 12\25, wiped cache and dalvik, rebooted and got black screen already? Did you have black screen with 12\08?

Ok wiped the internal SD again, factory reset and data wipe, wiped cache, and wiped dalvick. Installed 12/08 rom and it has installed correctly. what would you advise next, flashing the 12/25 rom? And wiping what? Really appreciate the help, thanks!

Let's try something else. I'll upload a new build and see if changing the kernel made any difference. It'll take about 15 minutes, so keep an eye on the cm11 thread and avoid the 12/25 build for the time being.

ok thanks

New build 12/29 did not work...same problem. Tried 12/08 rom and it installed ok then tried a dirty flash to 12/29 rom and had all kinds of problems. Went back to AOIP 4.2.2 for now.

I'm having the same problems. I've tried checking md5s and they match. 12/29 boots up from a clean install until I install banks standard and or core gapps. With standard gapps it locks up at the splash screen. With core gapps it locks up when it says android is upgrading.
Basically once I install gapps it's doomed. Same results with cwm and twrp. How are others able to install this ROM?

Are you wiping cache and dalvik-cache before installing gapps? If not before, after installing? Either way should work.

[Q] Able to restore to stock, but...

My boot went corrupt with CM 7.0.2. I was able to restore to stock with no problem, but everytime I attempt to install CM 7 (stable or nightly), I get a black screen except for a little white/light blue line in the upper right corner.
I use the 3.0.0.5 Recovery with the directions in the following link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=949699
Does anyone have an idea why this happens? I do remove the SD recovery card, and insert a blank SD card before rebooting.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Use 3.0.2.8 recovery
Thanks, I'll give that a shot right quick.

Tried it and it boots back to the black screen with the line in the upper right corner.
Here's what I did.
Made the bootable sd card, copied over lastest build of cm7 and gapps.
Installed zips.
wiped data.
switch sd cards, rebooted
also tried it w/o wiping data.
Is there anything I'm doing wrong?

Just downloaded a stable release, and it works. Is there any reason why the Nightly 80 wouldn't work, even after re-downloading it?
I'm also dealing with the same issue as well. The problem started when I tried to update from nightly 76 to 77. I also tried to flash to nightly 80, but no luck. I'm flashing a stable release now.
Edit: Flashing the stable release also worked for me. However, I wasn't able to flash the latest nightly over the stable build.
Yep.
Same problem here.
The stable works, boots fine, but the nightlies won't boot.
They go into the same flashing blue line.
I tried all the advice I could find, wipe system, cache, data and tried restoring to stock, still no dice.
I am using CWM 3.0.2.8.
I'm just a different flash method (verygreen's SD install), but found that nightlies beyond 75 won't boot without installing the .32 OC kernel. There's a discussion in both cyanogenmod experimental nook forum and in the dev forum here about it.
I guess I'll just wait until they resolve the issue then. I was really wanting to see how well the deep sleep worked.
Finally got the latest nightly from today with OC kernel and gapps. Running great so far. Just waiting on market being able to download.

[Q] CM7 bootloop initial boot

Well, i am stuck at bootlooping after flashing CM7.1 onto my friend's device, we've tried many times flashing it with different ways, but it seems to get stuck everytime at the bootscreen, i know the initial boot can take up to something like half an hour but after 2,5 hours we gave up, downgraded to 2.3.4 again using odin, and tried again on a different way (different recovery)
this is how we flashed it:
-made sure we had 2.3.4
-wiped data and cache with CWM 4.0.0.idk (the odin package for this CWM was included in the thread)
-installed CM7, everything went smooth
-rebooted, and then it got stuck
I really want to get this to work for him, any help from you guys?
is it because i wiped after flashing ?
Well the process should be like this :
1. Wipe data - Wipe cache - Wipe Dalvik-cache - Wipe Battery stats
2. Flash ROM
3. Wipe data - Wipe cache - Wipe Dalvik-cache - Wipe Battery stats
So twice?
He's not here right now with the device, but i want to gather enough info for tomorrow to retry

Yeah, it is safe to wipe before and after flashing.
And you're sure you did wipe dalvik-cache right ?
errrrmm, i don't remember, i think i did tho, i will, as again, retry tomorrow with also wiping dalvik
Well, as for me, when something went wrong, i flashed my device back to stock froyo first.
Then flash GB, Flash CWM, clear data and cache, flash the rom, clear data and cache again.
Reboot.
That's it

Error when flashing XWKTH

I was trying to install new gingerbread 2.3.6. And I choose to install XWKTH version. it's poland.
I was using 2.3.4 XXKPI with CyanogenMod7.2 RC5.6 before flash XWKTH.
The install process in Odin seems good. everything ran like always. but when the phone updating something before booting, there's an error. It said can't mount system csc/TUR/system. I don't know what is that.
Then I got to the Lock screen. I tried to unlock the screen, and an error message appeared: "process com.sec.android.ugl stopped unexpectedly". The screen is blank. Just the status bar & error message is there. I can manage to the lock screen again but everytime I unlock it, the error message appears.
Then I try to flash XXWKS7. Odin passed. But the same thing happened.
I didn't get this error if I flash XXKPI (2.3.4) or DDKQ7 (2.3.6 Asia).
Anyone know why this happening?
first u need back to official GB which is xxkpi then wipe n flash latest GB ver.2.3.6.
last "Have a nice Day"
Clear user data and cache.
Remove memory card.
Flash XWKTH with Odin and remove USB After 4 minutes.
Remove battery , put it back.
Put back memory card.
Go to recovery and clear user data and cache.
Reboot.
okay,
I've flash to XXKPI.
wipe data and cache. remove sdcard.
flash XWKTH. and after 4 minutes, my phone reach the home screen.
everything seems to work very well. Thanks, guyz.
I really interested with its lockscreen. anyone know how to take it to the CyanogenMod?

Yup, it's the wipe user data and cache that does the trick.
Remember that if you have used a version of CM7.2 that uses EXT4 then you'll need to format system too.

[Q] Endless Boot & Gapps issue

Received this phone a month ago, just got around to rooting it yesterday. Root with motochopper went fine. Unlocked the handset with motopocalypse, everything went fine. Installed latest CM10.2 nightly and everything ran fine, even restarted phone and it worked fine. I then realized I forgot to install Gapps, So i went to CWM and installed the Gapps through "install zip from sd card". Now phone will not progress past the bootloader unlocked warning screen. I can restart and put phone into recovery or fastboot no problem but I don't know where to go from here. I tried a factory reset and reinstallation of CM but to no success. I am a bit of a newb when it comes to external programs like RSD Lite and haven't used it. Is there something obvious I'm missing in my progress of trying to fix my phone?
clear cache and dalvik cache under advanced then restart.
if you still loop do the above steps plus data reinstall cm10.2.
if you still loop do all above steps but also format system under mounts be re-install.
if you loop after all that then try a different ROM.
PS what version of gapps did you use.

i can't post outside links yet but on the wiki.cyanogen site in the Gapps section I used the 10.2 20130813 1f51b5cc6370c1f45dc951109b6ce6ed release. did you flash gapps before flashing the ROM because the ROM flash will overwrite the gapps.
PS I suggest using zgapps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240652 because they are stripped down which tends to prevent a lot of issues and if you want a 4.3 ROM try skeevydudes PAC ROM it is more stable plus has more features.

[Q] Tablet is acting strange

Hi,
I've been using galaxy tab 8.9 with custom ROMs for more than a year and a half now, and sometimes it was acting strange, like flickering dialogs and crashes. Usually this meant an unstable ROM or just cache wasn't cleared when a new ROM was installed. And it was stable for some time, till I did a reset. Now no ROM is stable any more in addition to this, the battery sometimes says it is empty, but after restart it is back to normal status. I tried number of ROMs without luck, all are flickering lately which must mean it is not ROMs fault.
I am running out of ideas what to do with this tablet, so I'm asking if you guys have any suggestions, what else can I do to fix it.
NOTE: when installing a new ROM, I always did it with CWM recovery from internal storage with data, cache, dalvik wipe and factory reset.
regards, Daniel

Agree. In TWRP, a factory reset only wipe data, cache and dalvik cache. You have to manually format system. A clean install requires to wipe system, data, cache and dalvik-cache.

Of course. Flashing original firmware via odin brings back the original setup that came with the tab out of the box. I just don't remember if it will delete the contents of internal sd card. In any case, you can flash original firmware thru CWM as I always do, though I only flash boot and system images I modified in Kitchen. It will still be stock but only that it has been debloated, rooted, busybox installed, init.d enabled, and some system apps replaced.
Just remember that when flashing ROMs via CWM do a factory reset (wipe data, cache, dalvik-cache). In addition to the wipe, the rom.zip itself formats the system partition prior to flashing.
