Making a cable for rooting Chromecast. - Google Chromecast

Hello guys,
I got myself a Chromecast i need to attempt to root.
I dont have a cable, and i cant be bothered to buy one, when im pretty sure i can make one.
I just need to be sure i have the right stuff.
This diagram to follow, but i dont wish to make it like that.

Here is what i have:
Since the 100K resister on the diagram, is if you add the micro USB to the loop straight away.
The plan i have is to connect my two female USB together, and us the male usb plus and minus for the power charging. But does it only use the 5v for charging?
The finished plan would be as said abouve, and then plug the cable provided with the chromecast into one of the USB, and USB pen drive with files into the other.
As far as my own theory this should work, without the 100K resistor needed. Anyone have input. I have searched high and low, and i am sorry if this has been posted before.

That should work - just make sure all your connections are secure, nothing's backward or shorted, etc.
I didn't need any resistor when I combined my Y-cable and adapter, so I don't think Chromecast cares.

I made this same cable without a resistor for rooting ChromeCast. Worked just fine.. Bhiga was slightly wrong, there are two pins that do need to be shorted, the diagram is right... I didn't feel like soldering a short on those tiny pins so I just ran a long wire between the USB micro and the joints that I soldered.
Took about 2 hours to make the cable.
I'd be sure to use a continuity meter to make sure you aren't shorting any other pins

Kaiser not charging on mains but charges via pc

Hi All,
I have been have a few little issues recently.
I have 3 chargers that connect direct to the mains and neither of them work?
However my phone will charge if I connect it to my little cradle that connects to the pc?
Anybody have any suggestions on this strange issue?
Can all 3 chargers go wrong at the same time?!

You,ve probably damaged USB socket on your phone. Maybe you've poked the socket with a stylus? Try searching I remember reading a few threads on this problem.

Pin E is the 5v rail.
Only 1 pin is the 5v, if it was damaged the surely it wouldnt charge via the cradle?
I think it worked before I did a ROM upgrade.

(Here's a ) USB to Tab charging cable that actually works!

I have been sent a USB to USB cable to try by PowerTraveller as i was having trouble charging my Tab from their eXtreme battery pack. I have now tried it on the battery pack and just as importantly from regular USB ports (on my work PC).
It actually works!
Go here for the cable:

My pic of it as it's so new they haven't put one on the site yet:

I bought a bunch of these:
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/usb-power-adapter-for-samsung-p1000-81753
And these work great. Works with any USB port.
Only thing it's charging only no data.
I have one of these little adapters, can use andy micro usb cable to charge, again no data, but can also use micro usb car chargers, and those for other phones, blackberries etc.
The connection's a little precarious, but that could just be mine, that and it was like $3 or something..
Thought i might drill a hole in it, make a keyring..
Superb !
Great to her about this accessories I just hope soon I will be able to get some kind of video connection for my GT-P1010, along with a kernel/rom that can send power as well as video signal to the usb connector that comes with the tab !
Am I asking to much here?, well dont know yet, time will tell, for now I just keep searching. Cheers to you all
And on top of all these, Im looking to buy another tablet (dont know which one yet!) and will give the P1010 to my mom who is fascinated with the device

REALLY like this thank you!
Now looking for a case!
Can someone confirm whether or not these adapters allow other usb devices besides the Tab to charge in AC mode?

just ordered one of these, we'll see how well it works in a couple weeks I guess.. Thanks!
i think i'll order one of each (in the posts above), you never can have too many chargers! (it'll be nice to have both charging and data in the same cable.) I bought a few diff ones from amazon that were for charging, but they only charge if you use the wall charger, won't charge off the laptop no matter what i try.
yeah, i like to have at least 3 cables.. 1 for home, 1 for work, and 1 to carry around/travel with..

[Q] [HELP] Speaker cable port DETACHED

Hi forum.
I have a friend's captivate that had this "maraca" sound, I disassembled it and it turned out that the port that connects the speaker's flex cable fell off. Is there a way to re-solder it back? And if so, wouldn't it melt the plastic from the port itself?

This is not the actual board's pic, it's just a pic I found.
Hard to say without a picture of the damage.
In general if just the soldered joints became detached from the pcb and the tips and the cable are ok, with decent soldering skill, yes they can be resoldered.
If the cable is ripped in any way and maybe a portion of the cable is still soldered to the pcb, you're going to have a bad time.
Thanks for the reply. The port connects to the board with the joints you mentioned. There is no cable damage, the port just fell off. I can see the joints with a magnifying glass, but it looks difficult to solder with just an iron and the mag glass.

I can there are 6 joints to connect, i also see that there are 2 more on the left side, but those are very difficult since they are below the port.
I was confused thinking the cable was directly soldered on with the tips, but it's the cable port. OK. In your pic of the board I only see 6 solderable points on the PCB I don't see an extra two on the side, so it doesn't look like you need to worry about the extra two.
It does look like it would be a challenge to solder, but their may be room to scoot the connector up a bit so you're just leading a thin bridge of solder from the connector to the joint allowing maximum work space.
There are tricks that would make this easier to someone who is pretty accomplished as this stuff (pre-creating the bridges, etc..)
Pretty sure someone like MobileTechVideos could repair this for you.
I think I'm better off buying the board itself ( thank you Samsung for making these things apart from each other). Thanks for the tips!

Internal OTG - up to 32gb memory extension - crazy idea??

Hi, I`m just wondering if it is possible to make kind of internal bypass on internal connector and make full time OTG directly connected to some little usb sdcard reader inside device (should be connected directly w/o original USB male and female connector due size reduction). In sd reader could be up to 32gb micro sd card. (or someone tryed 64gb yet?)
From software side every time it should looks like OTG and sdcard is connected.
Just wondering if it is possible to power up properly and connect with PC or another OTG after this messing up with hw
Thank you in advance for your opinion
EDIT: spare internal dock cable is not so expensive so everyone may give a try.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dock-Conn...K_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item20c68df444
I'm also very interested in this idea.
Have you search for ang other DIY projects?
Maybe you post this question in Galaxy Tab 10.1 forums?

Here i am!
It's not possible. For 3 reason:
1) there is no place physically inside device. Not even 1mm!!
2) you can't have at the same time the OTG feature and the connection to PC
3) you can't have at the same time the OTG feature and the charge from AC adapter
In this picture you can see a modification that i have made in my tab:

I have moved the dock connector. This it was possible because i have removed the battery. (in car the li-ion battery expolde!!")
Bye!
I found these two interesting ideas:

Maybe it is possible somehow to solder this adapter to 30 pin?

You can charge and use OTG at same time with this accessory:

Samsung DeX Laptop from a Pi-Top V2

Hi,
Just been tinkering with a Pi-Top V2 and some cables/other bits and now have a Samsung DeX laptop with a 14 inch 1080P display.
Needs a few more bits before it's more polished but thought I'd post my initial project and will post updates as they occur.
More details on the Pi-Top forum where I describe what's needed to make it all work.
Ok, have added the following enhancements:
1. Dual USB-2 hub - provides 2 x USB ports at the rear where the Raspberry PI middle ports would be
2. USB-C socket - this means no wires come out of the unit - a USB-C to USB-C cable (with 4K video capability) is used to connect the unit to the smartphone
To do
1. See if I can get some speakers into the unit or use extenal pocket USB speakers
2. Alternative would be to somehow breakout the audio from the HDMI signal and feed that to an internal amp and speakers - not sure there would be room for the electronics but will take a look

This is really really great! Can't wait to see how this project develops!
Can you post a link to the pi-top forum? I would like to follow this project too
That absolutely awesome. I was just about to buy an older laptop and gut it.
Details
I have checked out the link on pi-top. You have done an amazing job and appreciate your sharing.
I really would like to build this for myself.
Can you post or send me pictures if you have any from before you threw the insulation tape on? I wanted to get a better look at the parts where you have to cut the usb cable and connect to the GPIO.
Also can you send me the names of the parts you used (part numbers) so I can purchase from Amazon. I have a list made, but want to double check since your set up currently works.
Thank you.
Subbed to this thread. I think I am going to try and do something like this!! I have a dozen or so laptops that are in various forms od not functioning that I can gut.
But that color!
I burnt the pi top screen trying to do this :crying:
