Hey guys, long time lurker here. I just got finished tinkering around with my galaxy gear over the last 2 days (got it for xmas =)) and I figured out a way to get internet tethering working on a non rooted stock note 3. I will post a quick guide shortly. I'm not very good at writing them and I am assuming you know how to root and install/sideload apps by yourself either with wondershare or adb commands. Will be up shortly =)
I used EasyTether for this as I had purchased it awhile ago and they had a bluetooth tablet app that I could use. I have not tried this with PDANet/FoxFi but I am pretty sure it should work as it is a similar setup.
-- Setting Up
0. Plug your galaxy gear into the cradle and you should be running Null rom and have usb debugging/unknown sources enabled...
1. Start by downloading the reverse usb tethering app from xda
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371345
2. Use WonderShare or adb push to install
HackConnectivityService.apk
installed.apk
3. Open the newly installed "USB Tunnel" app on your galaxy gear
4. Start up AndroidTool.exe on your pc and hit the connect button
5. After about 20 seconds your gear should prompt for a superuser access screen. Go ahead and hit ok or grant access
6. After the connection is made you should now be able to open the google play store and sign into your gmail account. If google account manager crashes, continue on to the next step and try again after step 11.
7. On your galaxy gear goto the regular android settings screen and click on the Xposed section. Click on framework and go ahead and update/install the framework and reboot the galaxy gear.
8. With the galaxy gear now rebooted, go into the android settings -> xposed -> and this time hit the modules button. Scroll down and click on the hackconnectivity application. With that app now enabled go ahead and reboot the galaxy gear again. (not sure if necessary but I think I recall it saying it has to be rebooted)
9. With the gear now properly setup return to the android settings -> xposed -> modules -> hackconnectivity and click on the WIFI button.
10. Your galaxy gear will now assume its internet connection will always be wifi even if connected via usb or bluetooth
11. You should be now able to sign into your gmail account by click on the playstore icon if you were not able to before.
-- Getting Tethering Working
12. Using either the PlayStore or sideloading the Amazon Appstore - download Easytether on your phone - and on your galaxy gear install the Easytether Tablet application.
13. Open the Easytether application on your phone and and select Bluetooth Tethering
14. On your galaxy gear open the EasyTether Tablet app and select your phone from the list of devices on the bottom of the screen. After the connection is established your galaxy gear should now be online with bluetooth and feel free to remove it from the charing cradle.
15. I was able to install Netflix on my watch, login, and start an episode of Star Trek while I was writing this for you guys. I hope this gets you guys online with your watches! =)
I will have to check this out and let ya know if I can get it to work. I switched to an international rom just to get native Bluetooth tethering. This will be a nice option for others that don't have a working solution
Nice work and write up.

This is a nice work around ! Although you should simply only have to load the xposed module & activate tethering by what ever means you choose. A few of these steps are not required.
I think I might include this xposed module by default in my rom to save you guys the hassle. If this is confirmed working someone please send me a PM and I will include it by default.
Doesn't seem to work after reboot.

I can confirm that it works. I'm on stock ATT Note 3. All the steps weren't required like you said. I loaded the module and installed easytether on both the gear and phone.

Confirmed working. I installed the HackConnectivityService.apk, then installed PdaNet Tablet, then installed PdaNet+ on phone. Activated HackConnecticityService in xposed. Then rebooted.
Activated and connected PdaNet on both devices. Opened Browser, browser worked. Then opened Google play tryed to connect. "Google Play crashed" (That is what was expected) Then enabled HackConnectivity in the app settings to Wifi. Re atempted connecting with "Google Play" I was able to setup and login.
Nice work, but yes less steps worked. :good:
@fOmey - This would be a wonderful addition to Null_ US users could now use Google Play. And PdaNet+ is free So the original way of getting Bluetooth works, we were just missing this xposed plugin.
Is there any way to do this with the gear running the stock rom?

Have not tested this but, You should be able to. Just install xposed and HackConnectivityService and then install what ever connecting software you perfer. PdaNet is free, I would recommend that to start with.

On your phone open PdaNet+ check "Activate Bluetooth Server" Say Yes to making your phone visible.
On your Gear open PdaNet Tablet click "Configure" then click "Android Bluetooth" Click "Tap here to start scanning.." You should see your phone's's name appear, Click on it, That should bring you back to the main PdaNet screen on the Gear. Then if you look at the bottom you should see part of a button, just a small part. Click on it. Sometimes it's hard to do so, but just keep trying you'll click it. once click you should see PdaNet is connected!
So if you can't get past the phone portion with PdaNet+, try disabling your WiFi and see if that works. Try opening a web page and make sure you have internet access.

On your phone try disabling your WiFi, try opening a web page and make sure you have internet access. If you do then on your Phone Open Pdanet+ and see if you can select "Activate Bluetooth Server" if you can, then go back into your gear, PdaNet Tablet and try to reconnect them, once your done reconnecting them then try clicking that hidden button. (Alternatively you can try open the browser on your gear instead and see if a web page opens.

Really odd. Not sure what is causing the issue. Check out Google play there are other options available instead of PdaNet. (not that I dont want to continue to help ya, just not sure where to go from here for ya other than that.)

thanks for the help and if the point of the thread is to get tethering working then i feel that is what we are discussing and should help all of us
I know the steps are reducible but I just wanted to give everyone the best chance of success doing this. Glad I could help you all out. I was kinda rushing writing because I was excited I could help and I had to write it before my lady got home and would yell at me for tinkering around and not watching a movie with her . Cheers

1) Download and install on your PC or Mac Wondershare MobileGo (Free Trial) - I cannot post the link - but u can find it on Google
2) Set the Gear to USB Debug and connect it through a USB cable to PC
3) MobileGo will download the drivers then it will recognize the connected device as Samsung SM-V700
4) MobileGo will also install its app on your Gear.
5) Now you can navigate the upper left menu including "Google Play Apps" from which you can install any app to your Gear, just click the app icon and then click on the green install button. You can check the process clicking "Downloads" on bottom left.
6) On the menu in the upper left of MobileGo under the menu "Apps" you will have access to all apps installed on Gear, clicking on this menu you can see all your installed apps and install or uninstall any app on your Galaxy Gear.
See some screenshot of MoblieGo.
I hope I was helpful
Thanks
Going to try it out.

How to install to GEAR? The Play Store cannot see my GEAR listed.
For never install apps, it will download, but for apps I had install at others device, it can't download.
Most cannot install...
Same for me, actually I can't install any app with your method from click on Google Play Apps, he ask me to login with my account and then don't offer to install on the gear
Sometime don't ask to log in and then add to dosnload list but don't want download, get error ;(
Edit : If I install app direct fril the option this work. But was Google Map and no internet on the watch, so was useless
Click install and then cancel and then install again most work after the second attempt
Mine says that my device is sleeping and won't work, what should I do?
Here it's working fine and installing any App from Google Play, as show on the screenshots, I installed Smart Launcher using MobileGo. Of course don't have to sign in on Google Play otherwise the apps will be installed only to the registered devices. Honestly I'm using the MobileGo Pro version which giving many more features to the program and may be this the issue that may not allow to install apps to devices non registered on Google Play like Galaxy Gear.
Working great for me!

At least work for free apps, thanks a lot.
So easy, this is awesome! I finally have the calculator and calendar apps that i needed! Also running Nova launcher!
It's a nice app but too expensive to purchase. It will be useful for the free period of 14 days.
I found installing the apps that I want on my Note 3 and then, pushing the apps via ADB to Gear works just as well at no extra cost.

Fully charge phone this morning at 7:45am and 5 hours later, I am at 43% battery. Just turned the brightness to 4 and rebooted the gear. I think the MobileMe app which asks for wifi to be connected is draining the battery while trying to search. I have gone and closed all apps running in the background and will monitor for the next hour to see what the % looks like then.
Is there a way to remove the auto installed MobileMe app during this process.
Ian B
Update: An hour later and the battery was already in the 30s%. Ended up resetting the gear, charging for an hour and now, my battery is back to normal. Charged to 84% and an hour later, I am still at 80%. The Mobileme app and calculator app were removed by system when I reset the Gear.
Going after work to exchange this mocha brown color(only one in Austin available) for the Lime Green one at BB.

Can you elaborate on how you push the apps via adb? are you pushing from your phone? or backing up with titanium or something similar?
This works perfect.
Thanks.
I've just play with Fruit Ninja.
ES explorer works well too.
this is what i was waiting for!
can anyone make some more screenshots, or record a video?
can you get some sort of a small-sized phone functionality? i mean, place browser shortcut, install reddit client, use other calculators, show calendar etc?

You need to install ADB on your PC and use it in the command prompt window to install the apps on the gear.
You will need to be familiar with ADB commands like "adb install c:\director\filename" to install the app to the Gear, with the Gear's USB Debug option turned on and connected to your PC via USB cable.

Can you describe this process ?
Youre just pushing Note 3 APKs to the Gear ?
If you have for example Instagram on your phone and Gear...are both of them looking for updates ?
Thanks , working great. I even have a task killer for the hard to shut down apps, like Riptide2. It run great on this Gear.
I have used DataSync+ application with my phone and Nexus tablet and I found it also works with the Gear. You need to have it installed on the Gear by using the PlayStore on the Gear.
Essentially this app needs to be installed on your phone and gear. It is used to transfer any application (and it's data if you want) that you have installed on your phone, and install/transfer it over to your Gear. I was able to get Tablet Talk that was on my phone and install it over on my gear with no issues at all. It works on any app. I also used it to transfer/install SwiftKey that I use on my phone over to the gear. Now the keyboard is much bigger (almost the whole screen) and easier for quick responses to texts in Tablet Talk.
For those HTC One users, I have almost every thing working on my gear with the only exception being the Notifications and Svoice. But that is solved with Tablet Notifications and Tablet Talk with Swift Keyboard. Everything else works fine, media controller, contacts, dialer, camera, gallery (push photos), find my device, call logs, etc.
I have the HTC One running with the ViperOne 3.1 RC2 | 3.62.401.1 | Android 4.3 Sense 5.5 ROM. & Gear with Null 11.1 Rom
Now this would be great info if you explained to us who are not tech savvy on how to get the AppSync+ application onto the gear. You start off your rcommendation by statin we use the app to transport applications onto our gear, but you never explain how to get the AppSync+ application onto the gear as a start point.
I spent an entire dayt trying different ways to get apps onto my phone by using the ADB method, etc. I did not want to go with the MObileMe method because people said it burns battery. Caught fits. So i would really be grateful if you would take a moment and walk me thru on how to get AppSync+ application on my gear so I can begin to port over apps to the gear---By the way this does not reqiure rooting does it?

You must have not read my second sentence where I mention using the play store from your Gear. Bluetooth tether the Gear to your phone, launch the play store from the gear, search for DataSync+ and download it and install to your Gear.
The APP does not require Root.

Thanks for your prompt reply and for your patience.
I am going to spend the day doing this but since i am new to the tech scene I will need a few basic points (I know i am so new at this I really ought not be posting on XDA). From an elementary standpoint, I know my gear does not have the play store on it. When I "tether" the gear to my phone does opening the play store on the PHONE cause the play store to open on the gear and then be downloaded. I simply do not know how the tethering process works to download the play store to my phone.
Please don't give up on me as I really want to do what yoy recommended to me in this thread

SW,
No biigie, we were all beginners at one point. The way I tether is by having the Null 11.1 rom on my Gear. Once that process is complete and during the process of installing the rom you will see an option for gapps. Install it so the playstore app is included. once that is complete and you have paired your phone you then go to the settings app from the rom (blue icon) and click on bluetooth. you will see the phone you have paired to. Scroll to the bottom and click on the tethering option. You then have to enable tethering on your phone also. Once that's done and you are tethered you open up the playstore app on the Gear, enter your gmail account info then you search for Datasync+, then you install it.

To help clarify, does the Phone need to be Rooted? Data sync is saying this is required, once I installed it. Thanks.

Today I installed a custom _Null ROM on my Galaxy Gear.
After full install, the Google Play Store crashes and says "Unfortunately, Google Account Manager Has Stopped Working"
The browser will not connect, and every page says "Webpage Unavailable"
I am really irritated, because I have not found 1 post with anyone having the same issue.
Please help.

In order to use the store, browser you just be tethered via bluetooth. Turn on bt tether on your phone then on the gear go to settings/bluetooth then you will see settings next to the name of your phone. Click that and select tether

It's very common; doesn't sound like you even looked...
Anyway, those things happen with no active internet connection
Internet is achieved via Bluetooth tether or pdanet (and supported tethering phone plan)

In order to use the store, browser you just be tethered via bluetooth. Turn on bt tether on your phone then on the gear go to settings/bluetooth then you will see settings next to the name of your phone. Click that and select tether

So there have been a whole bunch of weird things going on with my Note 4. Anyone else seeing this
1.) I have my apps arranged into folders and I am finding that randomly that apps are coming back out of the folders for no particular reason. It seems to happen when I install an app or power cycle the phone but also sometimes it just happens throughout the day
2.) Google Now "always on" stops working. Sometimes when the phone is asleep and never works when connected to wifi (I have seen others on the forum having this issue )
3.) Iheart radio app, I can't get it to install with the verified app setting checked or with my Gear Neo connected. If I turn off my Neo and uncheck verify app it will install but as soon as I turn the Neo on it uninstalls the App
4.) Starbucks app won't install ( I know this is Starbucks issue, just wanted to list it here for others)

Google search Starbuck apk. I had to side load it other day.

For number 1. You have Create Shortcuts enabled in the Playstore settings. After you install an app. It will put the icon on the home screen as well as the drawer.
I think he means when you create folders in app drawer and put apps in different folders when you restart apps in drawer leave folders and go back to the way it was. I also notice when I set time/time zone to manual when I reboot it always goes back to auto time via network. There is a few quirks but nothing an update can't fix. My opinion is Selinux enforcement may be culprit. Android L is probably what was supposed to come stock but it would of delayed note 4 launch . I can't complain as I really like this note 4

I have a Gear 2 and have the same issue with the iheartradio app and the latest update. There seems to be an issue installing the gear portion of the app and when it fails, it decides to uninstall the entire program.
For now I have reverted to a previous release of iheartradio version 5.2.0 which seems to work fine and installs the gear portion without issue, hopefully they will resolve this soon.
So I have found some things/updated
" 1.) I have my apps arranged into folders and I am finding that randomly that apps are coming back out of the folders for no particular reason. It seems to happen when I install an app or power cycle the phone but also sometimes it just happens throughout the day " I have found one trigger for this and it is Samsung's Kids Mode. Running the Kids Mode will screw up all of the organization into folders back to a certain point in time. Not sure what event it is going back to but it is always the same point so anything installed after that point will come out of its folder after kids mode is turned off
"2.) Google Now "always on" stops working. Sometimes when the phone is asleep and never works when connected to wifi (I have seen others on the forum having this issue )" Turning off S Voice seems to have fixed this issue
"3.) Iheart radio app, I can't get it to install with the verified app setting checked or with my Gear Neo connected. If I turn off my Neo and uncheck verify app it will install but as soon as I turn the Neo on it uninstalls the App" I installed an older version and so far it is working
"4.) Starbucks app won't install ( I know this is Starbucks issue, just wanted to list it here for others) " I installed an older version and so far it is working

Glitch: ‘OK Google’ doesn’t work
A few people have been reporting issues getting the voice command “OK Google” to work correctly every time. For some people, it worked fine when initially set up, but then stopped working after a couple of days, other report that the “Always on” function that allows you to use the command when the screen is off, doesn’t work properly.
Workaround:
They shouldn’t be incompatible, but some people have had success here by turning off Voice wake-up in the Settings menu of S Voice. Others report the opposite (that S Voice must be on for “OK Google” to work).
Potential solutions:
Make sure that Settings > Language and input > Voice search > “Ok Google” Detection is set to Always on. Try restarting your Note 4.
If you’re still having the problem there’s a good chance that a specific app is causing it. You could check your apps one-by-one. Start with wearable apps, anything that accesses the notifications. Alternately you could do a factory reset and selectively re-install until you find the culprit.
For #1, use the menu tab on the top right in app drawer. Click edit. Then drag and drop the apps u want into folder. That did it for me.

I've spent a lot of time to figure out how to get full notifications back on my Gear 1.
Since the last few updates, Samsung screwed us over by updating Gear Manager and mess with the notifications in the process.
For a lot of apps, the full notifications were removed now only showing the app that triggers the notification and for instance the sender of an email.
This is what I did to get it fully working again.
1. Remove everything Gear related on the phone (my case it's a S5).
2. Download earlier version of Gear Manager where full notifications still worked and put it somewhere on your SD card where you can find it.
( I downloaded version 2.1.14071502 from here https://www.mediafire.com/folder/e7h23e12rzesi/Gear_Manager )
3. Make sure the phone doesn't have any internet connection anymore, disable wifi and mobile data connection.
4. disable Bluetooth, so that you don't have a connection with the Gear smartwatch.
5. Install the Gear Manager earlier version you downloaded
6. reboot phone
7. open Titanium Backup and freeze "samsung gear automatic update" (or something simular, I'm translating is from Dutch).
8. open Gear Manager, it shouldn't ask to update (as the internet connection is still not active).
9. disable automatic updates in Gear Manager
10. Set up Gear Manager as you like
11. Connect phone to smartwatch by enabling Bluetooth again
12. Enable wifi and/or mobile data connection
On my S5 it works perfectly like this, no messages about updates and whatsapp and gmail notifications are coming in again with preview of the text.
UPDATE : I don't know if it is related to my "workaround" but I don't receive WhatsApp notifications anymore on the watch, although it is checked in Gear Manager and I do receive notifications on my phone.
UPDATE 2 : decided to give it another try today and I followed again the same steps. At step 7 there was no "Samsung Software Update" in TB, so decided to freeze "Samsung Account" in TB. This worked very well.
Tested my findings by sending myself multiple notifications (Gmail, SMS, Whatsapp, etc) from my company S3 Neo and it worked !
Does this also solve certain apps not installing when installed from phone and not galaxy store?

No, not that I know of.
This "workaround" is only to get back more text in the notifications, which are gone after the last few updates that Samsung forced upon us.
uhm... 1.7.071502 version can not be found in the link provided?
