Hi,
I would like to upgrade to 4.3 but without installing Knox ...
So the Galaxy Project ROM seems to be good and let me make a backup and go back to my old ROM if necessary.
But in the list of removed package, I can see some package with "Knox*".
So if I install the patch "REMOVED SAMSUNG APPS", will Knox be installed ?
Thanks.
P.S. : I don't have permission to post at the Galaxy Project.
I maybe wrong about this but this is my understanding.
Knox is only present in the new bootloader of 4.3. If you are currently on 4.1.2 which does not have the knox bootloader you should not be worried about knox. A custom rom based on 4.3 usually doesnt have the newer bootloaders. So u can just flash over your 4.1.2 and keep the current bootloader. Knox apps are pre installed in 4.3. And by removing those apps will not trigger knox counter as you do not have any to trip.

OK but here I want to add apps in which Knox is listed.
So I understand that Knox will not be installed when installing the main custom ROM,
but will it be installed when installing the "REMOVED SAMSUNG APPS" ?

I thought that installing a app could change the boot loader. It is not so. Good.

OK. Thank's.
Chance the link is on page 2 beacause it would'nt be easy to find it on page 52 ...
1. In order for knox to be tripped you need to have a knox bootloader which is available in 4.3 OTA update or a full firmware download from sammobile.
2. If you are on 4.1.2 now and flashing a custom rom via CWM or TWRP, it does not install bootloaders. So you remain on 4.1.2 bootloader which is knox FREE. Only your rom, modem and kernel is updated to 4.3 or to what the rom developer has preinstalled.
3. By installing "Samsung Removed Apps" doesnt trip the knox counter if u are coming from my point num 2. It basically just install the apps not the bootloader. So knox will not be tripped even if knox apps are installed. Its just a normal app which u can remove later on with no issues.
4. Lastly i have a note 3 as well which i couldnt care less about knox and tripped it the day i bought it. My previous note 2 was never faulty for the whole time i was using it which was more than a year. Get over knox and trip it. Doesnt make a difference. Makes your life easier by not being afraid actually.
Cheers and flash away.

You can always restore your backup. Unless you didn't create a backup before you went and deleted everything. That's a noob thing not to do.
Your best bet is to follow the "return to stock" tutorial. It's in the sticky threads.
Or wait for the next update to roll out.

IIRC there are two KNOX issues on this phone and people tend to get them confused.
First off there is the KNOX Bootloader that has the warranty flag thingy. Once this bootloader is installed it cannot be removed or downgraded AFAIK. Also if you root and/or change roms it trips the counter which some people fear will void their warranty even though I haven't seen this actually be the case with anyone so far.
The second KNOX is the KNOX files included in the OS. This can (somewhat) easily be removed from a rooted S4 even if it has the KNOX bootloader. This is what I did with my GF's S4 as she blindly installed the 4.3 update right when she got it.
Now people have made their own 4.3 update (minus the KNOX stuff) that can be installed on the side to update the OS without installing KNOX. This is the route I would have taken if I had the chance.
I think the biggest fear with the 4.4 KitKat update is that it will once again force KNOX back onto the system - even if it had already been removed. Because of this many people are hesitant to install the OTA update until they are sure that KNOX can be removed from it - or until a version is made that can be manually installed that already has KNOX removed.

Any thoughts on what people will be doing once the S5 rolls out? It is probably a safe bet that they will come with Knox or a Knox like system factory installed.
Sent via mobile
Maybe by then there'll be a way to remove/disable KNOX (bootloader KNOX, to clarify)
I remember once HTC did their bootloaders, people either did an engineering bootloader or a custom unlocked bootloader. (let's not speak of the Evo 3D) Here's hoping we don't have to go that route with Samsung devices.

Unrooting the device though Odin works in restoring your warranty. Doing so make it as if it never was rooted.
atlast I have rooted it successfully
In iPhone, I failed to jailbreak first time, because I updated iOS version 6 to ios7 from my device software update. (OTA=Over the air). Not by iTunes.
But that time solved the problem, by Restoring my device via iTunes. And then able to jailbreak easily..
Now my Question:
Since Galaxy S5 came in version 4.4.2...
But after using 2 or 3 days, an update was installed in my SMG-900H.
Update file size was about 25-30mb.
But still version no is 4.4.2, no change is there..
So will it cause a problem (like- iphone) , if I try to Root my Galaxy S5 first time?

yes you can root, but can't do any more updates after rooting. if you want to update in the future, you would need to go back to stock causing you to lose root, update, and then, root again after the update.
Hi,
I want to root my S5 as soon as I get it (as with all my previous Galaxy devices)
But , the rooting procedure makes the device "custom" and then Allsharecast does not work as far as I know.
Is there a solution to this for S5 ?
On the S3 and Note 8 , I had a modified lib file (libWFD_Engine.so) which fixed the problem of being a custom device.

Looks promising. I like that it doesn't trip KNOX but will the "custom status" be a problem?
I'm 7 days into this phone, still have a week to return/exchange it if something is defective. So far it's running fine, dont foresee need to take it back.
But .............. If I did need to return it, is there an "unroot" and/or a way to remove the custom status ?
*** EDIT *** I haven't read all the way thru the root thread, so if my question has already been answered I apologize.
No Custom Status
I have now rooted twice, flashing the firmware posted in this forum in the middle. My phone has not shown custom on the bootscreen once. I also encrypt before I root, so maybe thats it. Who knew you could be encrypted with root?

Yes, all the typical rooting items work as they should. You can even flash zips with fireflash, and not trip Knox.
It's NOT in the bootscreen where you can see the custom status. It's in settings / about device / status. In the last line it crearly says "Custom" under Device status.

You'll generally have to manually flash updates once you've rooted, the OTA process will usually refuse to update a device running a modified system image. Not that big a problem, but sometimes it confuses people.

Or, install Samsung drivers, then Odin, and flash a stock image that way to return to stock, then OTA works fine. There is another thread around here with a stock image, I'd suggest anyone looking to return to stock in order to complete an OTA, to review that thread.

Would we be able to use fireflash and keep root if somebody were to get the OTA and customize it for our needs to keep root, etc? I know it's a hard question to answer, but maybe you guys have experience with other locked bootloader devices.

This is similar to how we did it on the AT&T S4 using safestrap to flash touchwiz based roms that were pre-rooted. Unfortunately, we wouldn't be able to flash non-touchwiz based roms without an unlocked bootloader.

Root method for AOI1 / 5.1.1 for the SM-G530P THIS WILL TRIP KNOX. If you don't want to trip knox don't use this. If you do use it and whine you tripped knox because you didn't read ,we will all point and laugh at you.
Named it TrapKernel because well its not my normal HispAsian Kernel and I listened to a crap ton of Trap Music while doing it.
Thanks to @g.lewarne and his root method with his Unibase and Unikernel for the s6 , we finally have root after I ported it over to us. So be sure to thank him for his work.
What's included:
Auto installation of root and busy box
Kernel set to permissive
Otherwise stock
So here's the deal. Stupid simple. Make sure OEM unlock is checked in dev options if you have it.
1. Put Phone in Download mode
2. Open Odin
3. Connect Phone
4. Put Kernel in AP Slot
5.Flash it
6. Reboot and profit
Notes:
Download SuperSu from the Playstore. Its not included.
Change ro.securestorage=true to false in build.prop to make phone stop forgetting wifi passwords.
Delete the /system/app/SecurityLogAgent folder ot get rid of ratarded system modified warning
Download
Do NOT mirror this link. Period.
TrapKernel AOI1
Thanks to @Newyork! for testing it
Source code for permissive for anyone who wants it. Fork, build it, mod it, whatever
https://github.com/ShinySide/G530P_Permissive
I am the first one to be rooted with this above method!
I can confirm that everything works great!!
Thank you @ShinySide :good::good:
I second that!! Working 100%!! Thanks once again!!

Friendly warning for people who are rooting the G530P after March 26th, there is a new software version rolling out labelled as APC4. It's still 5.1.1 but there could be compat. issues if updated to APC4. Unknown yet. Try at your own risk.

Friendly warning for people who are rooting the G530P after March 26th, there is a new software version rolling out labelled as APC4. It's still 5.1.1 but there could be compat. issues if updated to APC4. Unknown yet. Try at your own risk.

My friend tried it just now and she said it did root the device. So no compat issues. People can enjoy the APC4 bugfixes with the AOF8 / AOI1 root kernel.
Not booting
OK, I have a SM-G530P with 5.1.1 AOl1, after flashing this with Odin and it doesn't get past the SprintSpark boot screen.
Clarification needed
Is this 'Permanent Root'? I rooted my G530P using the CF method and when using EFS Pro, it told me that the device didn't have permanent root. Can anyone tell me if CF is permanent or Temporary?
Excuse me for being a a beginner at this but, would I be able to remove the kernel and go back to the original and if so what is the process?
