[Q] home wifi keeps dropping - Motorola Droid 4

I was directed to you guys because they said you all are good here. I have a droid 4 it wouldn't connect to 4g so I had to send it back and they sent me a replacement a week ago. From the time I set it up it keeps dropping the wifi every few seconds. My partner has a droid 4 in the same house with no issues, my son has a droid with no issues, and my other son has a iphone with no issues. Logic would tell me it is my phone lol. I put the Wifi fixer app on and have to constantly run it when I attempt to do anything, which by the way is very annoying.Any ideas what I can do to fix this issue beside contact Verizon again?

TERRIBLE Problem w/Dropped Calls - Need Help

Hey everyone,
I really need your help. I have a serious problem with my Sony Xperia Z 6603. I have spent too much time trying to troubleshoot this on my own so now I need your help and invite any if they have experienced the same. The synopsis:
At times, when utilizing my phone for phone calls, I got repetitive and persistent dropped calls.
Background info:
- City is Winnipeg of Canada
- Fido is my provider (essentially Rogers network)
- I have an LTE micro sim card (although Winnipeg hasn't had LTE rolled out just yet)
- I am rooted ONLY and on .434
- I have mobile network configured as follows:
- I use the LTE APN and select it on when in cities that have LTE
- Fido's website states this about bands:
Specs on the Z are as follows:
Now onto the symptoms....
The dropped calls occur sometimes when I am in a call, other times immediately when trying to dial out. An example would be, I'm driving and currently on a call, suddenly it cuts me off and my attempt to redial just keeps cutting me off from even placing the call. Wait a bit, keep driving, and now I can call again.
This problem happens in certain locations in the city. For instance at home I can be in calls for awhile, but there is this one part of the city for instance (just SW of the airport) and about a 2-3km radius that no matter what I do, placing a call is virtually impossible and yes signal strength appears normal. Also it appears that data is working normally. When I say impossible I will attempt the same call up to 10 times, each and every one dropping, some when 30 seconds into the call, others when immediately trying to dial out.
I also noticed that it also occurs while driving and talking for long periods. In other words, in a call normally and for a lengthy duration while transiting through the city and then suddenly drops perhaps while the phone is switching towers (a thought).
It's really bad. This is becoming impossible to tolerate and embarrassing to my customers and friends I speak with.
I downloaded an app from the play store called 'GSM Signal Monitoring' (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.signalmonitoring.gsmsignalmonitoring&hl=en) to compile more information. Here are some screenshots but don't really know how to interpret the data. I see the db levels appear normal for a signal but not sure why the graphs reflect sudden spikes like that, perhaps my issue? Also notice in the graphs when the color changes for a new line, I believe when transitting from one tower to the next while driving. I was hoping some of you could perhaps try this app and compare what your results look like to mine, especially if you happen to be utilizing this phone in Winnipeg as well. Or if you know already, provide some insight on these results....
Things I have tried in my troubleshooting:
- Rebooting
- Switching DATA off completely (this seemed to provide a fix at times, but not at all times)
- Called FIDO and had them perform a "switch" or "network" reset of my phone on their end
Things to consider:
- The LTE micro sim is fairly new (upgraded it about 2-3 weeks ago)
- There are times when the phone works as it should and calls are placed and held normally (such as from within my home, SE corner of the city) but even near my home, while driving, I've had the calls drop but don't forget this doesn't just happen ONLY when I'm driving/transiting. There are spots where I am situated and can't place any calls without it dropping either shortly after or within 60 seconds of connecting.
I am really hoping that someone out there can help me resolve this issue or at least provide some direction from here. I purchased it from the UK so if it's a hardware issue I will probably have to send it back to the UK for the warranty to be honored.
Thank you for taking the time to read my dilemma!
Have you deleted any system applications?
Have you tried to use,2g only,3g only....

Awhile ago I used "App Quarantine" to quarantine some apps that I wasn't using. Since you brought this up though I had a look again in the quarantine list and also noticed the following 'com.xxxx files in quarantine as well which I never placed in there myself so I have no clue if that's normal or if they are associated with the apps I quarantined \, and no didn't select 2G or 3G ONLY, but I have switched DATA off entirely:
Not sure but could be some of this app is needed by the system, and causing the call drop.
Did you have this issue before rooting?
Best place to start is a stock no rooted firmware.
You can also try deleting fast-dormancy-wakeup.apk .odex
Or try 2g only.

Thanks for the feedback. Just curious what the correlation between using 2G vs 3G would be with phone call reliability? And what is the 'fast-dormancy-wakup.apk .odex you are referring to?
Honestly I think I did have this issue before rooting but very difficult to be certain of this.
So I took everything out of quarantine and no changes. Still dropping calls.

I thought I was the only one in the world having the same problem back then when I first got my phone in march.... But it looks like yours might suffer the same thing as mine did. I live in Alberta.
My friend, when the call drops, does the signal appears to be resetting itself?
What is the longest call time that you ever have on this phone?
When did you get your phone, was it like that when you first got it
Sent from my Sony Xperia Z using xda premium
The feeling is mutual! There are times (or more specifically areas) where my phone behaves normally. In my home I can stay in a call forever. However about 2km away when driving on this particular road, at the same point every time, my call will drop. It does not appear that the signal/network is resetting itself when this happens (ie drops to no signal and comes back). I got my phone when it was released, actually this one is my second, I cracked the screen on my first one within a week. I can't quite recall if I had these issues from the beginning because as stated it happens when I am moving around.
I am now about to try to restore my phone to factory but before I do, I am wondering if I use the backup/restore app included, will I retain all my apps, their data/settings, and all my contacts and texts?
Should I use this app or PC Companion?
Do I need to do anything special or just use PC Companion for a restore to get back to stock settings (including un-rooting).
Thanks
I would suggest you to use the pc companion to repair the Rom. This will wipe all data from your phone just like the factory reset would.
If you did all these and found the phone still behaving like that, I think there might be something wrong with the hardware of the phone, it's highly recommend you return your phone for an exchange.
My first xperia z was like that, even worse I would say. Mine just won't let me call.. I never had the call time more than a minute it cut me off randomly, sometimes right away when the call was established, sometimes it cut me at 2 seconds..
When I got my replacement everything is just fine
Sent from my Sony Xperia Z using xda premium
Ya I figured it out. Just completed the restore with PC Companion. I did use the backup/restore function though to restore my contacts/texts/data/settings etc. Any chance you think by restoring this info the problem could migrate back? I can confirm I am not rooted anymore.
Now will test the phone calls. I will be in those areas where I know for sure my calls would drop, tomorrow. I'll report back. Really hope this works.
It might work. I do think it will solve the problem. Yours wasn't as bad as mine mine just wouldn't let me made any calls and the signal kept reseting whenever I call.
Good luck and will wait for your report.

Tomorrow I head to an area where it was virtually 100% dropped calls for me so I will report back how it goes after the restore/unroot.
No changes I'm afraid Still the same behavior. My next move is to take 2 other phones with me now, one being an iPhone 4 and attempting to use in those same areas. I find it very strange behavior on my phone's part and wonder if it's an area issue but these are dense, populated areas.
Frustrated......
Or what you could also try is to borrow a sim card from someone and then test in those areas.
Sent from my Sony Xperia Z using xda premium
I do have a spare sim card with FIDO. I just switched to the LTE card a few weeks ago. I guess I can call them and switch back to the older sim temporarily to see if the issue lies there. I will try the phones first. If I get the same symptoms with other phones, I will then try the sim card.
I have the same problem in about 4minutes my calls drop, doesnt matter were i am, on a side note dough,i use a normal sized simcard and cut it to fit my Z sooooo i guess my sim isnt playing nice with the Z ill get my microsim next week so i will report back and let you know if a completely new updated micro sim with lte enabled and ready is the fix
Sent from my C6603 using xda app-developers app
Thanks for the feedback, in a couple hours I'll be in one of those areas where I experience this and will try my iPhone 4 and then try switching back to an older Fido micro sim. I'll report this afternoon.
So interestingly today my iPhone 4 dropped a call in the same area. It also was having signal issues, cutting in and out, but managing to maintain the call too in various spots. So I'm starting to believe now that this may be a network issue with my provider and the area in question. I find it very odd though that it can be such a large and dense area. There is about a 2 mile stretch of this road where I frequently receive dropped calls. How can that possible in a city?? By the way I also swapped the sim cards when trying all this out.
Does it have anything to do with the fact that it's right on the approach path of a runway at the international airport, or near a military base? Keep in mind that I do occasionally get the dropped calls in other spots in the city as well but this area specifically is terrible.

Omg...runway...i experienced it aswel when i mentiont it yesterday now i think of it it was along side schiphol airport amsterdam a mayor one,it could be one of the sources of the bug,i think it could be more reasons in the equation like, old sim,no lte sim, thus maybe bad contact with sim, radio interferrence ect.ect.
I gues al those factors in on the call droppin

An update. Perhaps the most intriguing thing I have found so far but not exactly sure what it means.
If I switch my data to GSM only (ie Edge) the phone calls instantly become rock solid. No more dropping. As soon as I switch back to WCDMA mode (3G & HSPA+) the problem comes right back.
Starting to sound more and more like a network issue with the provider. I have relayed this info to my cell provider and they are looking into it and getting back to me.
Anyone else find this?

cant make a call or text

Every time I call I get a message that I'm roaming and I can't make a call. Text messages don't go through either. At least I still have a data connection... Right

I have the same issue, did you find any sort of fix?
Yes I updated my profile and prl. Not sure why or how it got to that point though

Same thing
I'm having the same problem. It seems like it started when I updated to the newest software. When I'm right next to a tower, it seems to work normal, but when I get anywhere else...not so much. It will show signal, but disconnect right after I dial. After multiple attempts at provisioning, and manual reprogramming, they determined that it was an antenna problem and that I should take it into a store to get it replaced.
I'm having the same issue before and after updating. Sounds like a tower upgrade issue Imo

I thought that I had fixed it through a profile and prl update, but yesterday afternoon I lost everything. Took it back to the sprint store and was told that the connection issues are because of people buying or switching to the new S5 causing provisioning issues. The only time my phone works is over wifi. It's going back today

Fux the s5. Fux Sprint for not running the numbers on making sure it's network doesn't crash. The network is a nightmare in Chicago.

Pretty sure the network crap is just an excuse .... Just hope they realize and update their crap . I'll be hanging on awhile longer it not I'm just gonna call up htc and get it replaced after the 14 days
I was having the same problem and it turned out to be my Air rave. Called Air Rave direct 866-556-7310 and they reset my system. Everything fine now. Seems my air rave was stuck trying to connect my old phone. Maybe it'll help someone.

VoLTE/WiFi Calling Issues?

I picked up the Note 4 last Thursday. This is my first phone with WiFi Calling and VoLTE and so far the experience has been less than ideal. I've found that I get more dropped calls and the person on the other end can often not hear me when we first connect (and I need to call them back) when using WiFi calling or VoLTE.
Is it common to have more frequent call issues with these two features enabled, or could there be an issue with the handset?
I called TMo support last night for similar issues. I would try to clear the cache and data from the phone app. That's what they suggested for me and it's been working much better for me!
Sent from my Note 4 using the XDA app. Damn this thing's sweet!
Trust me, clearing the cache and data has nothing to do with it. It's a network issue. I've been having similar issues sporadically with WiFi calling ever since they switch to a different format of WiFi calling a few years back. Also couple that with the upgrades they're doing, at times service may be affected.

Yeah I didn't think it would. However, when my calls drop, I get kicked immediately back to the home screen. There was not a FC error or even a call drop tone (which I've NEVER heard on T-Mobile after a call drops). When I had a Note 3 with Verizon, my dialer would say 'No Signal' and it would at least tell me that the call was dropped. I'm not getting that here. After 2 weeks, I can't say I'm particularly impressed with the QoS of T-Mobile as I have several dropped calls daily -- sometimes 4 or 5 per day. It's getting rather old, honestly. If it wasn't for the dev phones, I would have ended up back at Verizon. I just had to start somewhere with the cache and data clear....
Well that's not quite what's happening to me. My calls either drop just like a normal dropped call (sound and all) or stay connected and just have audio issues.
Anyway, I was playing around with it a bit more and it seems to only occur on HD calls. My wife and my dad both have Nexus 5's, and I see the issues frequently with them. But VoLTE calls to non-T-Mobile customers seem to be fine.
Anyone else note 4 take 5 to 10 seconds to connect the call? Happened with my note 3 as well.

Not up to 10, but usually 3-5 seconds. This was true of my Nexus 5 as well though. It tends to be longer when it is not a VoLTE call, I imagine because it needs to drop from LTE to HSPA to connect.

(REQUEST) Three intouch App for rooted N6

I am on Three network in the UK and they have an app that you can use on wifi when no signal is present (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hutchison3g.threeintouch&hl=en_GB). Unfortunately, it doesn't run on rooted phones and no root cloak app hides root from detection. I have come across this page https://redfern.me/bypassing-root-detection-in-three-intouch/ as a how to change the APK to bypass root restrictions but as I am clueless I could not do this myself.
Is there anyone who would be kind enough to do this for me (or does anyone already have this APK?).
Thanks in advance.

Just wondering as you're also on 3 with an N6... I constantly get data dropping out and have to flick into airplane mode and back again to get it back. I think its a lollipop issue because i had it on my n5 after the update. It happens on the stock rom and on PureShamu. That damn exclamation mark on the signal symbol is driving me nuts! It happens everywhere, too not just on a few towers...

I think its because the phone is hunting between 3G, H and 4G all the time....
I've noticed the same thing. My data connection will just show no service. But what's weird is that if I turn my WiFi off at home it will then pick up a signal. WiFi on and the signal drops again.

Sorry for the off topic, but I've got one of those signal boosters from 3 with my nexus 5. Back story, the mast here failed a lot last year. When its working, signal here is fine son I told them i don't want a box...
They sent it anyway and I've had no end of problems with it. It all works fine, I get great signal with it and the box lights up to indicate its connected to the internet. But randomly, it wont send calls to my handset... So I miss calls (without knowing)... Worst time was when my Dad came to visit my village for the first time and was just wondering around for ages trying to find me... Gah

Sorry to read about your issues (I am sure your dad was thrilled too!)... I'm hoping that I don't get the missed calls issue and at the moment I am more than happy to get a signal in my house.

I had the same issue with missing calls and just receiving a missed call notification. I've found a work around; when I arrive home I place a call from my mobile to my land line and then it seems that for the rest of the time I am home the mobile is connected to 3 through the homesignal box.

That's interesting.
What's strange is, i was definitely connected to the box. In fact, I don't even need the box usually but there was a brief outage on the mast so I turned it on and forgot to turn it off again. The network worked outside of my house, but when I came home and connected, I couldn't receive calls not even missed call..

I have a signal blackspot radius of around 800ft from my flat. The only problem I've had so far is when I upgraded from a Nexus 5 to a Nexus 6 I needed a nano sim and of course the homesignal box wouldn't recognise the new sim card!

issues with poor wifi? Explantation point and constant going in and out

Anyone having this issue been fine up until a couple days ago... Constant wifi issues... No changes have been made to phone or anything... Just curious if anyone else all of a sudden starting having issues...
I noticed some issues for me probably not the same though.
My s10 plus appears to be hiding some wifi signals from the WiFi manager for example when I take the kids to swimming lessons there are approx 8 wifi signals showing up on WiFi analyser but it's only showing 3 WiFi networks to the WiFi manager my guess is its hiding less realiable networks but as my job is to fix those it's meaning after 4 years absence I got to carry a small laptop again.
I've noticed it appears to be on the 2.4gz side... Anyway to make phone only connect at the 5ghz level?
At home my phone is disconnecting from my 5ghz randomly almost one time per night. It loses internet, then switches over to my 2.4.
It did this with my Note8 running the OneUI beta, too.
I cannot find a fix and it only affects me, not my wife or her Pixel 3 or any other 5ghz connected device.
hey I noticed this too recently. I keep getting random pop up that says no internet connection
46 pages of complaints about that issue. Search "S10 connectivity issues all carrriers"
I had a Note 9. Wife had an iPhone 8plus. She traded her iPhone ($550 off) and paid the remaining $370 to get her an unlocked s10. We got the s10 and internet connection was slow on tmobile and so were download speeds. Meanwhile my Note 9 was just fine on the network. Eventually the s10 would say I wasn't connected to a network. Then sometimes it would work sometimes it wouldn't and eventually it just stopped getting connection. Terrible experience for her as someone coming from Apple to Samsung. So we call Samsung and ask for a replacement and they say no. We have to send back the s10 which leaves my wife with no phone. Wait for Samsung to receive it. Then wait for them to evaluate it. Then they said itll take 15 days to receive a refund back on my card for the $370 I paid. As for the perfect iPhone we sent them they said received it March 26th and said they are still evaluating it. If it passes then they email me a $550 coupon promo to use on the Samsung website. Meanwhile my wife is stuck with no phone.....thankfully we sent it back within the 14 days!
When I try to reason with the reps they do not seem to be able to help at all. The suggestion one rep gave me was if I need a phone go to a retail store and pick one up. Another rep said yeah that is a problem to be without a phone then said it would've been nice if I had an extra phone lying around in the meantime.
So ridiculous....when I asked to speak with a supervisor I got hung up on. Made me wanna switch to apple so bad smh.
I've noticed that the s10 is really aggressive when it comes to wifi, it'll disconnect/switch away from wifi if it deems it of not quality, which is quite annoying sometimes
sometimes im at the edge of a wifi signal and i know it's usable, just slightly slow, but the s10 will decide its not good enough
