Can it do this? - Pebble

Trying to see if my Pebble will be useful for refereeing youth soccer. I'd like it to do 2 things.
1. Display a count up and countdown timer on the same screen, so that I can keep track of what minute the game is in, and how much time is left in the half at a glance.
2. Keep track of how much I run during a game. Ideally, I'd likelike do this without having to keep my phone in my pocket, but I'm not sure if that's possible.
Thanks for any help or tips you can offer. I'm looking forward to playing around with this.
I'm running Android 4.2.2 (Infamous Alpha) on a Tmobile Galaxy S4 if that matters.

Found an app called multi timer that displays bouth timers, count up and countdown, on the same screen, for antone else that might be looking.
Still haven't played with the pedometer part yet, we'll see.

I don't think that is posible without the phone, since it doesn't have GPS in it

Yes its possible,
that being said will it be 100% accurate? possibly.
Using the accelerometer on the pebble you could measure the values of an arm swing while walking and running, then do some nested if statements to check the values adding to a counter everytime it meets the criteria

Wait for the SDK v2. It can count Steps, Calories and stuff. And then you can just multiply the number of steps with your average distance that you can cover in a step.

Who's content with their Note?

I absolutely love mine!!! I won't be upgrading to the Note 2, I just don't see any valid reasons to. Everything I've ever wanted on a phone...the Note has got it. Besides... I love the capacitive buttons are awesome when lit up in a dark room. I'm not a fan of the physical button. The only thing from keeping this phone has being labeled "perfect" is the lack of a notification light. :/

I completely agree. I love my note and everything runs perfect. I even have the galaxy note 2 gallery and pop up video player on mine with a sick theme. I will post the gallery and video with instructions in the apps and theme section. Also I wide love to see more activity in the forums as far as posting home screens for ideas and general info

Im happy with the note and when the note 2 comes out alot of mods will be ported over.I also hate the physical home button which was one of the reasons i took the s3 back to get the note. I do too wish the tmobile forum had more action but since tmobile came out with the note so long after at&t and then took it off the shelves im not shocked. But i love this phone

So far, I am pleased with the original Note..... But a few quibbles I've noticed: It's a little jerky at times (not nearly as smooth as wife's GS3 running same OS)..... I figure it must be because only 1GB of RAM... Also on wifi calling it doesn't always hang up the phone and on occasion, hasn't let me answer an incoming call either.... Maybe jellybean will fix some of these issues? (assuming we get jellybean). Overall I'm pleased and am glad I did not wait for the Note 2 (screen will be too narrow IMO) I like surfing the web in portrait mode

I might upgrade to the Note 2 because of this;
Wacom-designed stylus with 1,024 levels of pressure sensitivity, which is four times more than the original version.

No way man. 1GB of ram is plenty. Gotta be something else. I have multiple devices, phones/tables, with 1gig of ram. The only reason there would be a lot of lag is because the stock rom sucks.

I agree I have a TMobile note running Blackstar 6 no lag what so ever. I replaced touchwiz with Nova launcher and it runs like a dream. On a personal note I have not had any lag or had to force close other ram hungry apps in order to "speed things up"

Down load NoLED from the Play store. No root needed. Works great and I say even better than the LED that comes with the S3. With NoLED you know exactly what you missed.
When I first went to capacitive buttons from the HD2, I had thought that I missed them. Then I got the S3 and I knew instantly I missed the capacitive buttons.
Give NoLED a try and I think you'll be happy.
---
I do wish the Note did some of the things the S3 does: Like video previews and HDR photos in the camera options. I know there are other apps that can do that but I like the stock of it.
The one thing I was extremely glad that Note doesn't do vs the S3 is the gallery previews. The S3 gallery shows every picture in a tile mode like preview, the Note shows them in a group mode preventing embarrasing moments if some one looks at your gallery.
LOL..... I hear you rosedog.... Hey not to change the subject (of videos/photos)..... But I downloaded "Dice Player"..... enables a smaller/floating video player window over top of what app you're running (just like the stock capability of the GS3).... It works pretty well, too

You're not too picky. I traded my S3 for a Note a week ago. I def feel my S3 was much more snappy. Everything was just a bit smoother, quicker. Love the capacitive buttons and bigger screen, but miss my 2GB Ram and LED notification.

The Hidden Note II

This idea came about after my brother was held up at knife point for his Note II. He was just commuting home at night but thankfully nothing really bad happened to him.
I commute and I hate the idea of losing my new Note II. So, I modified my old wood covered planner by cutting out the paper layers to form a niche for the Galaxy Note II. I considered including the silicone casing to tighten secure the device into place.
I control the device with a smart watch like the old Sony Ericsson LiveView and my wireless stereo remote earphones. My main line is another common smartphone. The Note serves as my secondary line. I can quickly make calls, read & reply sms (pre composed) via the smart watch.
You just need to use the Note in safer places and not flaunt by using it while in the mod planner for long periods of time. It would also help that you install a screen dimmerv app so as the light will not to give away that you have the Note in it and keep your phone in discreet mode with just vibration alerts.
While most are flaunting this great device, it's less likely that the would-be robber will suspect that the Note is in the planner. The secondary phone is your "smoke-screen" device you will surrender.
In this way, there's no need to do any struggle especially when he has a gun pointed at you.

Oh, I check the forum and we are all talking about gun control?
Sigh. Ok, back on topic - the screen light would give it away at night. I imply the screen filter to dim it down at 20%. I recommend that you put your browsers at negative or dark backgrounds. I guess you have a settings when you have it in there. It isn't going to be 100% elimination of light bouncing off the opposite page.
The point of going through this trouble is concealment of your device while you travel or commute. It's about an extra layer of precaution. Keeping it out of sight will somehow lessen the provocation of a hold-up. And in the event of a hold-up, be it with whatever threat of life, just give your cheap secondary phone.
There is no point of dying for something you can replace.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using XDA Premium HD app
Of course not in the dark. I meant at night in a lit place. The point is - concealment; stealth; secret; not obvious; discreet; hidden; disguised...
I put the Note II in the planner when I am traveling or commuting to another place. I remove the Note entirely from the planner without showing that I have taken it out for long use in a cafe, or safe public places. You can conceal this process of taking it out or putting it back in inside your bag.
When you do need to do something with the Note's UI, it should be brief enough and unnoticeable. Backing up to a wall is one way. With the first S Pen on a holder accessory, you would look like you're jotting down something.
Other than concealment, the planner keeps the Note damage safe from drops.

I was really thinking of using it only in situations where your handset's light would otherwise ruin the effect. But I can see the reading light drawing attention too. I guess it's use would have to be occasional and with a judgement call.

My further development for the planner is to use a page and cut it exactly the Note II's screen profile and to cover the rest. I seem to be able to trigger the back and option capacitive buttons through the paper. The front paper can be held in place by using Blutack.
I still have 2 extra planners to experiment on, probably integrating the first S Pen with the holder accessory into the niche. Any further suggestions are appreciated.

Damn, that's really unfortunate. My friend had his iPhone taken in the middle of the day. The guy asked if he could make a call, then walked out of the store, and when my friend followed him, he said he had a knife and to walk the other way.
I understand where you're coming from with this mod, but in all honesty, the best way to prevent getting into a situation like this is to be smart. Of course I don't know the full story, but my advice to anyone is keep your phone concealed whenever you can and be mindful of your surroundings. May seem paranoid (Hey, I'm kinda tall for my age but I'm also pretty skinny), but I'm always watching around me for anything/one suspicious - especially when walking down a dark/sketchy side street.
Glad your brothers safe though. Situations like this can turn ugly fast.
I still have my old HTC Amaze 4G, so I'm working on finding a VNC server app for my Note II and a client for my Amaze, and then simply tethering my Amaze to my Note. Then I can leave the Note in my pocket connected to my headphones, and control it with my Amaze.

I have a question about Wi-Fi calling too. Does it save battery compared to not using it?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
I don't know how you're not getting such screen on time, to be honest. It's obviously dependant on what your usage is like while using your phone.
With me on stock kernel, if I'm just browsing around XDA or the internet I'll get around 8 hours screen on time (at least from how long it seems. I haven't confirmed and actual length of time so it could be less or more). Whereas if I'm playing Shadowgun Deadzone constantly, I can still get around 5 hours screen on time with 4 hours constant play of it.
If I remember, I'll get some actual proof of my stats over the next few days.
Dont worry about it. Even I get about 4 hours only. This is with 25% backlight indoors and 75% outdoors and heavy regular use. We dont have wifi calling or anything like that here. It is on 3G HSPA+ network and I get just above 4 hours of on screen time till battery goes below 10%. Lot of people disable lots of stuff like automatic syncing and turn the brightness all the way down. I dont do any of that. My gmail, twitter, drive, G+, Pulse, Hangout are all running in background syncing and doing their stuff (the only thing I have done is to tell G+ to upload only on wifi ).
7hrs screen time is easily achievable on this phone with 12hrs + uptime.
Theres a dedicated thread on this already if u wanna go read how guys are setting their phones for this.
My use is as follows to get 7hrs...
*Wifi only browsing (no mobile data)
*Auto brightness during the day and low at night.
*Eliminate as much wakelocks as possible by not using auto syncs in apps etc.
*I'm rooted so i use "Greenify" to make sure apps go into hibernation after I close them.
*I use Titanium backup to freeze bloat ware I don't use.
Apps such as Skype, Facebook, Viber etc etc are Known drainers so keep an eye on them if u use them.
There prob more that I can't think if right now but with the above set up, you will easily get between 5-8 hours screen on time.

Zite

Just a heads up...my favorite news app, Zite, is available for the gear now. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem that useful. It displays the title and a picture of a few of your top stories but you can not read any of the content. A 'read it on your device' button will bring up the story on your phone. It is very nice to look at, at least.
Thanks. It's one of my favorites too. The gear app only shows headlines, but it's still nice to see known vendors coming to the gear

I think you all got the wrong idea what this watch is.. It is a companion accesory. So the Zite app does exactly what it needs to do. Keeping you from getting your phone out of your pocket for everything. Maybe without the watch you will grab your phone 10 times but 4 times there is nothing to read. But you scrolled and you screen lit up. So those 4 times you can leave your phone in your pocket cause you can see the headlines on your watch and pich precisley what you want to see.

Can you help me understand exactly what the Zite app does then? So far, as I can tell, it brings up one story when you launch it and that is it. You touch the screen and it takes you to the app. Are there other functions?

For the screen to cause fast battery drain like this? Another thing, the device gets immensely hot, very quickly when playing real racing 3. Even on power save. Is that a note 3 thing too?

I'm not asking for a magic cure-all, but there's no way in the world I could afford any tablet, not on my payrate. I only got the note 3 by trading a bunch of stuff. I was just under the impression that new devices were supposed to get LESS warm than their older counterparts. This device reminds me of owning a tegra 3 phone..

I understand your dilemma ,.I do all my vids, games, movies ..etc on my tab...to avoid heating up my phone and burning the battery down. Somebody else here might chime in and have a solution for you..I wish I could be of more help.

How long was the screen on for?
It's normal for any device to get hot when playing games, especially when running graphically intensive apps. It has nothing to do with whether the device is old or new.
About 50 minutes out of the 55

That sounds about right then. Screen time can usually last up to 5 hours before the battery dies.
Installing dynamic kat actually 100% fixed heat and really improved screen on batt life. I only use 6-12% an hour. Depending on cpu load
