Bye Nook Community! - Nook Color General

Been a lot if fun, but I've found a replacement for my beloved nook! I'm porting a Rom from the kindle fire 2 over before I go, but that's probably going to be it for me. Hope to stop back occasionally to see what's going on. Anyways, I'll really miss all the devs and kangers on the NC forum. Bye!

Greetings all. I don't normally sign up for forums, anymore, but after lurking long enough here to get my Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus 7" running beautifully on CM9, with the Google Now for ICS injection, I had to find a way to say thank you. No bricked devices, no sad faces. You're all awesome.

There would be no sad faces except it's frowned upon to post in OT without having 10 posts.

[BOUNTY] ICS or JB Rom for Revolution

I'm taking this idea from timmytim over in the tf300t forums (we need a bootloader adjustment, he made the bounty and xplodwild fulfilled it).to be working for the tf300t, ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1942369) so I thought we may as well try it here.
I personally pledge $20 to whomever is able to port/create an ICS or JB rom for the Revolution. Devs, please help us. There are many of us left here with this fantastic, but under-supported device. If you can help us, we'd be happy to return the favor.
If you too are cursed with not having enough $ to upgrade etc (or don't want to buy new hardware to replace fully functioning equipment), please pledge to donate to a dev (real pledges only please).
and for those that doubt. If you think this is a hopeless endeavor, if you believe this phone is dead (which many do), then you may as well pledge some $. There is nothing to lose. If we finally get the development we need, it will certainly be worth as much as a paper toss game in the play store. and besides, devs need our thanks in general (I'm considering building a retroactive bounty for Mt).
PS: PG, if you pull off your CM port, this hopeful bounty is all yours.
Lets try and revive this guys. It's a solid phone, it just needs a little love (and google now).
I'll keep track of the pledges in post #2
Reserved for tracking total etc.
Update 02/26/13: Total Pledge: $210!
If you have been thanked by me, your pledge is included in the total.

Sorry it isn't much but I'll add $5 into the pot. I don't have much time left with the revo but had a great experience with the community here! This is my first android phone and am thankful for the development for it!
5$! Sorry it's not much, but whatever works right?
five bucks is plenty really. Thank you!
now if we can just get some more people to pledge and get a devs attention we might be in business

I'll throw in $25

Posting here works fine. If you all keep up with my Esteem progress then you already know I jumped to CM10. I will copy and make the needed changes to me repo for the Revo soon, trying to get it in some sort of usable state.

[Q] Total n00b question

Sooooooo I have what will more than likely amount to a laughable n00b question: I have a Kindle Fire HD 7" and I'm thinking about rooting. But Why? What are the benefits? I understand the benefits of rooting an iPhone or Wii(which I have done both), but don't know what I stand to gain by rooting my KFHD7. Maybe someone could shed some light on this subject? Thank you in advance.
Unrooted kindle fire hd is like living in communist Russia.
Rooted kindle fire hd is like living in America.
Lol.. Or its all about being able to unlock the possibilities of your device.
Read through these forums to get a real idea of what "root" can do.

Quality response, I actually Spilt a bottle of bud when I read it!!!
Seriously read the forums and your looking to unlock the true potential of the kfhd rather than whatever Amazon want you to use it for.

Replace launcher and Google play store are the huge benefits to root...also the ability to remove updates and advertisements on the lock screen ...other than that it's more tinkering...
Sent from my GT-P3110 using xda app-developers app
Well I'm all for tinkering so I'm going to give it a go. I'll take a look around the website and find out where to start.
..as someone who likes to work on my own stuff, ie: fixing my house and cars as well as building my own PCs, I wasnt diggin' the fact that I didnt have total control over a personal computing device.
Even if I didnt add the Play Store or change my loader, rom etc, I probably would have rooted anyway just to be in control of my Kindle at a higher level.

AOKP

I am currently working on compiling AOKP for our phone. I will keep you guys updated in my process. Hopefully if things go smoothly, I'll have a working ROM to upload sometime this week.

Man I would love this!!!!! Recently had to get this phone cause I switched carriers. Coming from a Note 2 is a little of a shock. A nice rom would ease the transition. Thanks in advance for the hard work.......
no I'm not happy to see you, it's just a Note 2 in my pocket
Looking forward to this!

I would absolutely absolutely absolutely love you if you could get AOKP on this phone. Life would be perfect and glorious.
AOSP style roms are desperately needed on this phone., I love this device but hate the lack of development for it. I wish I was more talented with technology or I would try cooking something up myself. Anyway's I'm looking forward to your progress good man and I will be following your post's diligently.
What's the update here? It's cool with me if things are still "two weeks" away. But whether or not it's still actually happening would be nice to know. I'm just hoping that Zombienaut still wants to make this happen.
On a similar vein, if one were a complete newb, does anyone know how that person could learn enough to be able to tweak AOKP for addition to this phone? How much work would it take to learn, and how/where would one go about getting started?
It's been a long and frustrating ordeal. Trying to work on this while having a job and going to school is making it take longer then expected. Progress is seemingly well, however. The ROM boots, but without working data, WiFi, etc. So please keep patient.

Thanks for answering! You're the man, Zombienaut. I'm just glad to know you're still on board.
