Hello,
I was just reading the thread below regarding the bricked phone bought from eBay, my phone is in a similar state the only problem is my phone won't boot into recover it's just frozen on the boot logo.
I was in recovery last night I wanted to complete wipe the phone, I stupidly formatted the system I formatted everything, now my laptop won't pick up the phones connection. It's really worrying me that I've bricked it, I'm hoping you guys can save me.
I have downloaded odin, it won't find my phone when it's connected. My phone is rooted and unlocked. From what I've read I'll need to reflash the phone I could probably do this with a little help. If I could get my laptop to find my phone or get my phone into recovery I probably would be able to figure it out eventually.
I've actually got a new phone arriving today an LG G2, plan was to give my son the HTC but I've ruined that idea.
Thanks in advance
My phone just died so I could reboot it and I got into bootloader it's now in cwm but I don't know where to go from here
Can anyone help me out from here with a guide ?
More information, my bootloader says unlocked if this helps. I need to know how to upload new data to my device although it won't register on the pc.
I got it to show fastboot usb but still not showing up on my laptop, I tried Odin again and it's not showing their either. I do have a custom Rom on my pc that I had on my phone before I broke it.
Watched video tutorials but all seemed to be slightly different, they still had the data on the phone to recover

Odin doesn't work with HTC. You'll need to use one of three methods:
1- OTG cable
2- adb push <name of rom>.zip /data/media/0/
3- adb sideload <name of rom>.zip
Use a Win7 machine (or Ubuntu Live USB) if you're having problems with adb, and you don't have an OTG cable.
Hi
I have got HTC one all in one tool kit it gives me the option to sideload a Rom so I think im getting somewhere
I need to wait for my battery to die again so I can 're enter recovery and try and push a new Rom onto the phone.
I think I might be able to work it out, as long as my windows 7 laptop picks up the phone, looks like this all one toolkit will sort it but if not ill use cmd to try and push it across.

no need to wait for battery to die, just press and hold POWER + VOLDOWN under a bright light (not kidding!!), light will start blinking, once it reboots (about 30sec to a min), let go of POWER but keep holding VOLDOWN, that will get you to bootloader, from where you can enter recovery.
(if it doesnt work from the first time, try again, sometimes it takes me 2 or 3 tries to work)
I tried to push the Rom over it didn't work, it's finding the phone when I type adb devices, it's showing in recovery
Maybe I'm not typing in the correct comment , adb push maximum.zip - it's in the correct directory

Got it working now now my boy has it to play games on so hes happy, im trying to kill ny new lg g2 battery but it just keeps on going.
Thanks for taking the time to help, i might try and root my lg

Okay I don't know if this will help anyone, but I figured out how to stop Windows from detecting the phone as two USB drives when the phone goes into Recovery mode, and to make it show up as Android Composite ADB device.
I do NOT have HTC installed, rather, I'm using the USB 3 drivers that come down through the SDK, so I'm not sure how to do this if you are using the HTC Sync drivers intead.
At any rate, start with the phone off and disconnected. Open the Device Manager. Boot with your prefered method into Recovery mode, then connect the phone. It should detect as USB Mass Storage Device under Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Right click on USB Mass Storage Device and click Uninstall and then OK. Once this is done, disconnect the phone (you can leave it running in Recovery).
Open My Computer and navigate to C:\Windows\inf. Copy the files usbstor.inf and usbstor.pnf to your desktop or wherever, it doesn't matter, just make sure you put them somewhere you can get them later. Then delete them from the C:\Windows\inf folder. These are the drivers that Windows automatically uses for USB storage devices.
Ok, now bring Device Manager back to the foreground and plug the phone back in in Recovery. It should show up as Android Phone with an exclamation mark. If Device Wizard pops up cancel out of it. Now right click on the Android Phone and click update driver. Click Browse my computer for driver software. Click Let me pick from a list... Click Android Phone and Next. Click Have Disk. Browse to your SDK folder into the USB Drivers folder and you should see android_winusb.inf, select that then click OK. You should now have a list of three items to select, this part I am not sure if there is a 'right' or a 'wrong' but I go with Android Composite ADB Interface.
Select that or whichever one you think and this is what it will install as. Bingo, now whenever you connect the phone into Recovery or boot into Recovery with it already connect it correctly detects as the Composite ADB Interface or whichever you selected, but does NOT show up as any USB drives.
Unfortunately... I still could not get ADB Shell to connect (I even went out and bought a 2GB PNY card).... so I don't know if this will help any of you but I figure it's one step closer to what we need to happen.
At any rate, to get everything back to normal as far as your computer being able to use USB storage devices just copy those two files back to the inf folder before you connect them and you should be fine.

Format it LONG Fat32, 1024k allocation, name it TEST, put PB31IMG.zip (downgrade ROM) on it, power on into bootloader holding volume down until you get to volume up to start upgrade, run the downgrade from Bootloader, then immediately reboot with holding the track button switch into Fastboot menu, power to Bootloader, let the card check run, decline upgrade this time, run your loop.bat or loop.sh if you like linux, power the phone into recovery boot, and prepare yourself to be happy--I think that will work. The whole trick is get a card/format that forces recovery into an ADB-available mode.
Or you could try what I've done 7 times and achieved ADB Shell 7 times...
1. Turn the phone off.
2. Start running Loop.bat
3. Unplug USB cable.
4. Turn device on in Fastboot by holding in the optical joystick and power.
5. Plug USB in.
6. Hit power button once to get to HBOOT.
7. Wait two seconds for it to do it's thing.
8. Pull off the back of the phone.
9. Hit Vol - to Recovery then hit power.
10. Immediately after doing this continuously push the sd card in and out (about every .5 - .75 seconds)
11. ?????
12. Profit

The real bummer here - and I should have known better, really - is that this wipes your phone.
I suppose it should be obvious, but take it from someone who's pretty new to Android phones and just wiped their entire phone after following your steps: Please add a warning to your original post.
It's late, I'm tired and irritated, but I'm sort of bummed to know I went from hero to zero in trying to enter shell (again) during recovery all in an effort to get proper perm. root. Sort of ****ty to know that I just lost everything.
still no root
I'm sorry, I shouldn't have assumed people knew an IMG flash from bootloader wipes user data. Believe me, that's not the only time you'll wipe if you keep modding

USB drives are ok in recovery
When I am in recovery with adb and working correctly it still shows the 2 USB drives so this is normal and ok, what you have done is fool yourself into thinking that your phone is in correct mode but it really is not, this is why it still does not work, sorry.

Now that I've scorched the earth, I'm hitting this thing hard with every trick I can think of to get the shell in recovery again.
Thankfully, I at least have my app list on appbrain.
After researching around the different forums, I think this maybe my issue. I will have to make this attempt when I get home.
This is what I posted on a different forum. I am not sure if this is a similar experience you were having:
So, for a little a bit I was having issues with finding and modding the usb.inf file. I got that finally resolved... Now as I go to one of the first parts of the procedure, executing the adb shell command. Well at first it said the 2 lines, about the daemon and whatever the second line was. Anyways, the third line did not say "no device found" it went straight to a shell prompt "$" . The instructions made a point in the instructions for it to say " no device found" .
I went ahead with the rest of the instructions. No Luck. And I did both methods. A co-worker of mine told to run adb devices to see if my phone is recognized. I will also make that attempt tonight.
I wanted to know if any of you had some insight. I made sure I was in the right directory.
I will make another attempt on a different machine tonight.
Thanks. Oh yeah, I do have some UNIX experience if that makes a difference.
I had the same problem, used this method here

I rooted in Windows, rather than linux, simply because I like the look of MejDam's procedure better than the linux script posted here on XDA--and his windows procedure is accompanied by his YouTube video
Long story short: I had ADB Composite Device AND the two storage volumes mounted together, as I got shell, and did the other steps in recovery. NB: they were mounted as Generic Storage Volumes, not writeable partitions. The stock recovery on DI does not allow host to mount either partions, although I'd like to see if
Code:
mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
worked for the SDcard on the sdcard, cuz then it would be a cinch to mount sdcard/emnc partition into host OS--windows, linux, Atari 2600, etc Worth a try.
Anyhow, my conclusion: a bad driver setup could be a barrier to catching adb shell, but it is certain not the prevailing problem for most, IMHO.
Was wondering if bast525(the creator of the thread) was ever able to adb shell while in recovery, and if so what did you do thanks.
Heh, I wish.... I've tried just about every method posted on these forums, and five different SD cards from Sandisk, PNY, and Kingston. The only thing I haven't tried is rolling back to the pre OTA update, because I don't want to wipe the phone at this point.
First I want to apologize for the double post (post in General)
I used odin to get froyo on the Captivate. That worked fine. When I try and root 2.2, the phone froze and now it won't get out of recovery mode. I have tried every combination I can think of to reboot the phone short of throwing it down the street, but I cannot get out of recovery mode. I am also unable to use the power button (ok key?) to select anything. I can use the volume keys fine for up and down.
One of the errors says:
"(Unknown error: 0) ensure_root_path_unmounted++
ensure_root_path_unmounted (/mnt/internal_sd)
ensure_root_path_unmounted ret 0
unmount(/mnt/internal_sd) attempt 1 (unknown error: 0)
Install default apk-files. finished.
Mind you, I have already tried to put the rooted 2.2 files on the sd card, but still to no avail. Any suggestions? I am really hoping this phone isn't rooted.
So you have a european firmware? Which one is it?
Sent from my phone so excuse the spelling errors
I just fixed it. Reinstalled the firmware with Odin and it's working fine now. Thank you.
dude how did you do that.. I have the same friggin issue and I can't fix it. I'm stuck in recovery mode all the time, as soon as I plug the phone in to charge, or plug it in the computer via usb, or push the power button, the damn thing goes into recovery mode and stays there. I can use the volume buttons to navigate up and down through the options and if I hold the power botton down long enough the phone will turn off and back on again. But if I press the power button once (as in select an option) it doesn't do anything. I tried every single option out there to get into download mode with the battery out and usb in and volume buttons then put bat in....etc nothing works. I need to get into download mode

What he said. Plus, I have had it happen sometimes that no matter what I always reboot into recovery. At that point I just adb reboot download and re-flash.
ok thanks. I know I said I have tried everything before but I wasn't completely truthful. I did try ADB though, but I don't think I was doing it right. I downloaded the SDK thing and started a command prompt from "start menue, accessories, and command prompt" but when I type the command "adb reboot download" nothing happens and the command prompt disappears. I don't have much experience with ADB, is there anyway you can give step by step instructions on how to do this? I would very much appreciate it.
Thanks
I found this thread on here "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517874" but still didn't help me much. Everytime I type cd c:\Android or any other command I get The system cannot find the path specified.
Here's what I do. After you download the sdk. There is a folder called tools. I copy that to c:
Then opencommand prompt and type,
C:
CD tools
adb reboot
Or, adb reboot download
Of course make sure your phone is connected via USB.

thanks I'll try that when I get home. I think this might take care of the problem, because I did keep the folder on the desktop and did not move it to C: folder. Although when I plug in the phone via USB, I still can't establish connection between phone and computer, but I will let you know how it goes after I get home tonight. and I did find some stuff about ADB through google so I might be able to do something with it tonight.
Thanks for the help though
Download odin one click, remove the battery, open odin, replace battery, hold down both volume buttons, and plug the usb cable in. That should get you to download mode unless your 3-button doesn't work.

Find the tools folder in the SDK you dowloaded and extracted, I found a shortcut to it scroll over the tools folder, hold the shift key and right click on the tools folder then choose open command window here.
When the command window opens type the command ADB shell then hit enter, then type adb reboot download then hit enter with your phone plugged into pc. This always works for me. You can always change the path by moving the folder directly to your c drive but this will work for you for now.

Background
Okay so the glass on my 2013 Moto X broke on September 27th I ordered a new one and while changing it I accidentally broke the digitizer so I disconnected the digitizer and the phone turned on while my digitizer with disconnected then i had no way of turning it off while my digitizer was disconnected the phone started to vibrate every 3 seconds until the battery died... so I was forced to switch over to my Nexus 6 because at the time that was my backup phone because I love the performance of my Moto X.. now a few months later yesterday to be exact my new digitizer arrived and I brought my Moto X back to life powers on and performs just fine
Problem
My wrist twitch to activate camera doesn't work
My dual chop to activate led doesn't work
Whenever I make a phone call or receive a phone call my screen turns off automatically but the phone call works just fine once the phone call has ended my screen does not turn back on I have to reboot the phone to turn on the display again

2013 moto x on 5.1.1 stock rom locked bootloader rooted using crashes method with ultra slim root
any help or tip is greatly appreciated
Maybe, but it really depends what's actually wrong. The Moto has a TI MSP430 chip that handles all that 'motion, wave-to-wake, chop-chop' stuff and it's loaded from a /firmware folder or partition (have forgotten at this point). @masterifla figured out which files it was on 4.4.4 & 5.1 that got uploaded to the 430 and wrote a .zip file to change from 4.4.4's "wave to wake" to 5.1 "chop chop" or vice versa. I fixed some little bug in it, and stuck the working .zips up in this post although they may be elsewhere as well: (so :: these zips contain the firmware that actually does the wave-to-wake stuff and can be 'recovery-flashed')
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63616790&postcount=17
At least if that works, you'll know that it was the firmware for that chip, and if not, it might actually be the 430 chip(which you can see in the teardown). The post by me and anything by masterifla should be pretty well explained.
Cheers.

There still might be a way. I keep trying to have people get this to work, but I'm not sure of the outcome yet, so give it try if you like: Here's some steps:
1) Locked bootloader / no root means mostly that you can't write system, but I'm pretty sure you should be able to temporarily boot into a PC-based copy of twrp. Once in twrp (for one time say) you are root, and you have access to anything on your gizmo. In theory, you should be able to mount system read-write and change something in the file system.
2) Get the correct copy of twrp and adb (from dev forum for this box) and put it on a PC with fastboot in the same folder. To make this easy, called twrp "twrp.img" and call "fastboot" or "mfastboot" fastboot.exe (I am for some reason assuming you've got a PC, not a mac or linux, but the ideas are similar.
3) quick explain of the files in the .zip from above ^^ : 8 files prefixed by MSP that are located when on the moto in /system/etc/firmware. Unzip them and stick them in that same folder.
4) Tricky part : (I think) : reboot into the twrp.img on your PC by getting your device into fastboot / bootloader mode: (so .. volume-up&down&power keys all held down for ~10 seconds perhaps, then if you've gotten it right (it's touchy), you'll be in the bootloader where it has a small tiny text list of stuff like "continue, recovery, etc).
5) you're good with the phone if you've made it here: now on the PC from that folder, type in "fastboot boot twrp.img" and good luck. If it works, your phone will be in TWRP with root access. If not, I don't know another option at the moment.
6) Probably the rest is most easily done from the PC command (or shell) window where the files are. Since your device is in the bootloader and awaiting further instruction, you should be able to use adb to talk to recovery now. so carry on:
7) (get the files from your PC (the MSP prefixed ones) onto the device, so first remount system r/w):
Code:
a) "adb remount" // supposedly should remount system toggling the read attribute to write
b) "adb push msp* /system/etc/firmware/" // copies files to device unless I've got syntax wrong, try one at a time if doesn't work.
c) "adb shell ls -al /system/etc/firmware/" // list all files, and post them back here to see if it even worked.
d) "adb remount" // system partition back to normal ro state.
d) "adb reboot" // moment of truth, a reboot.
8) after things settle post-reboot, check out "wave-to-wake" , camera twist, etc. This works on 4.4.4 or 5.1 (if this other stuff above works).
Note: I could be way off on my idea that rebooting into recovery will give you enough functionality to do this, but I'm not sure what other choices you've got without being able to root. I guess another thing I'm wondering about is why you wouldn't be able to root the phone from recovery regardless of how you booted into it. You still can't unlock bootloader, but I'm not clear on what difference it makes at the moment.
Good luck. It's a "hail mary" pass.
thanks I got my stuff working again ? I screwed up in the file install part freaked out and reflashed stock and rerooted so everything is good now once again thanks
HI..I'm a complete noob when it comes to this. Somebody helped me install an older ROM 4.1.2, sense 5, 1.31.651.2 to use on another network and I want to install a newer ROM with better firmware...mostly because 3g is really slow here, sometimes doesnt even register and I think the radio can be better.
Can i use TWRP thats on my phone to flash a newer firmware before I flash the ROM? If so, do i have to wipe before I do that? How else may I update the firmware?
Thanks for your help.
You should always wipe before flashing a new ROM, but you only need to wipe system, data and cache (dalvik cache as wll if you have that option) - NEVER wipe internal storage or you will lose the rom file and likely have to RUU.
Here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2795856 is a link to the most recent firmware which comes with a brief tutorial as to how to flash the firmware using fastboot. If you are a noob, you will want the one that says "modified firmware with hboot and recovery removed" since you want to keep TWRP.
You will need to connect your phone to your pc while it is in the bootloader. You can get into the bootloader by turning your phone off, then holding volume down and the power key until a while screen comes up that says "Hboot" near the top. If you don't have ADB and/or the android sdk on your computer, you will need to get that first and then you will need to open a command prompt in the same folder where "fastboot.exe" is after installing the android sdk.
So again, you will download the extracted firmware, and also download the android sdk. Once android sdk is installed, navigate to the folder on your computer called "adb" and ensure that you can find "fastboot.exe". Once you have found this folder, copy the firmware file into the adb folder and rename it "firmware". Then hold shift and right click in the folder and select "open a command prompt here". After that, reboot your phone to the bootloader and plug in your phone to your computer. Then follow the instructions for flashing firmware at the link I posted.
You do not need to wipe prior to installing firmware. You should flash the new firmware before you flash a new rom since the firmware will work with any rom but the new roms only work with the new firmware. Wouldn't want to install a new rom only to find out you can't figure out how to install firmware.
Thank you very much for your reply The_mamba. I appreciate the time you took to write that all out. Can't wait to give it a shot.

So I downloaded adb, found fastboot.exe and tried following the directions but once I typed the command it just said "waiting on device". I extracted and renamed the folder and even tried it compressed...reason being the directions said to rename it firmware.zip but after it was extracted it's not a zip file anymore. I don't even know if that's the issue just something I wanted to bring up.
I also made sure my device said fastboot usb as well.
Other notes
I didn't download sdk, just an abbreviated adb. My computer says it doesn't recognize the device as soon as I get to fastboot usb. Under file name it says compressed file then .zip...can the command be wrong? Lastly, I hold shift and open a command within the folder that houses fastboot.exe and firmware among a few other files correct?

Couple things: The abridged adb should be fine, it sounds like your computer is not recognizing the phone. Things to try for that is use a different USB port (sounds stupid but this often works) and make sure you have the most updated HTC drivers for the phone installed on your computer. You may want to ensure that your abridged ADB came with the adb and fastboot drivers as well. Also, you do not need to extract the firmware zip file that you download, just rename it. Literally just copy the downloaded firmware to the adb folder, rename it, and flash. You are correct about the command prompt window, you just want to open the command prompt from that folder so you don't have to navigate to the adb folder once in command prompt. As long as you open the command prompt from the folder it should say something like "C:\adb>" with a blinking underscore. Obviously if you didn't install adb to the root of your C:/ drive then it will say wherever you installed it.
Commands in order (once phone is in fastboot mode and recognized) should be:
fastboot oem rebootRUU (this will reboot the phone to a black screen with silver htc logo)
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
(then it will run several lines of code and hopefully say "Success!")
fastboot reboot
Be cognizant of spaces and such.
Let me know if you still can't get it to work.

Hey. Thanks for the last reply. I did everything you recommended but it still didn't work. I used two different usb cables, 3 different ports, and I keep getting the message I attached. However, htc sync worked albeit it gave me a warning message and said I needed a different driver and it downloaded it before it registered. Do you think my version is too outdated to be supported? I tried this HTC-Mobile-Driver_v4.16.0.001.exe and HTC-Mobile-Driver-v4.17.0.001 (1).zip and a website recommended this HTC_BMP_USB_Driver_x64_1.0.5375.msi but none helped.
I do get a noise every time I plug in and unplug the usb, so that seems to be working. USB debugging should be enabled correct?
Lastly and hopefully this is the main problem: when I turn off the phone and plug it in to the computer, I receive a message that say "The connected charger will take longer to charge. To charge faster, use the original charger and cable that were provided with this phone." I'm not sure if that's because its low voltage being delivered from the usb or the cable is actually not adequate, I will google that.
Also failed to mention my computer is running on Windows 10

Hmmmm, interesting. Are you using usb ports on the front of the computer or the back? Sometimes the ones on the front aren't as good as the ones directly on the mainboard so if you haven't already then you could try the back ones. Also, despite using two cables, I guess there is still a chance that your cables are to blame. It concerns me that you are still getting driver errors even after updating sync so you may want to keep trying to solve the driver aspect. Here is an excerpt from a post on another forum I found that may be relevant:
"If you have the full AndroidSDK installed, check your device manager for an unknown device. If you find one that's supposed to be your phone, update the driver and use the driver in SDK directory\extras\google\usb_driver . If that still doesn't work, make sure you don't have HTC Sync running on your computer. It will hose the entire deal."
So try checking out your device manager regarding the driver and also be sure to close HTC sync completely (including the system tray icon if applicable) before plugging your phone in with bootloader up.
Check out the whole tread in general for some good tips: http://forums.androidcentral.com/rezound-rooting-roms-hacks/209934-stuck-waiting-device-after-fastboot-command.html
Keep me posted, I'm invested now, haha.
Hello everybody I was able to unlock the bootloader but when I put the phone in bootloader mode it doesn't even see the phone on the computer I've tried going to platform tools and command prompt and did ADB devices and it won't see it. it won't even see it in fastboot. I've tried the driver installation guide but it doesn't work. Can someone please help me? I am running Windows 10 64-bit on a Acer nitro 5

I had this issue myself when I tried unlocking. It seems when you type fastboot, CMD keeps using an older version. You will need to directly call /fastboot.exe, wherever the full path is, and have your Razer in bootloader mode (it took me an hour to figure out I already had it in bootloader mode), and hopefully it will find it.
TLDR: Make sure adb and fastboot are being executed from their actual paths and that they are the latest.
Also USB debugging is on? Did you check the notifications?
Yes usb debug mode is on...

I have even tried updating the drivers and it keeps saying it can't update it even if I use the manual update settings

I vaguely recall having the same issue, and fixed it by going into the Device Manager and installing a different driver for the phone. I can't remember exactly which one it was (I want to say it said something about fastboot). This was after booting into fastboot of course, since Windows uses a different driver for when it's in fastboot vs when it's booted normally.
Heres what I did:
1) Download https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/repository/latest_usb_driver_windows.zip
2) Extract to a folder in your desktop.
3) Go into the folder and look for android_winusb.inf
4) Right click it and choose install.
5) Press the windows button and X at the same time and choose device manager.
6) Plug the phone in and find the device in the device manager. It could be in a couple different device trees, so you'll have to find it.
7) Right click and choose update driver. Choose browse, then browse again, and find the folder on your desktop with the drivers. choose that same .inf file from earlier.
8) You'll have 3 different options. I've always had success with the ADB Composite driver.

After I update it the software drivers for the computer it says Razer phone 2 but it doesn't work right. I tried doing one of those scripts to reflash to stock software and it doesn't do Jack squat it sits there waiting for device.
use samsungs usb driver installer and change adb driver to Samsung's version in device manager. should see fastboot device now .

Copied from another thread.....
This is the biggest problem most people have if you don't do this part here below.

Lol okay..that's about as random as "hey anybody reading this thinking about getting an S20 Ultra or one of the others"
I am....
I had the same problem. I never could get it to work in Windows. Luckily, however, I have an Ubuntu dual boot on my system, so I installed ADB & Fastboot on linux, put the phone in download mode, plugged it in, and it showed up without issue. This won't help for everybody, but if you have a linux machine, or a you can install a dual boot, it'll get you where you need to be. And it's a lot easier than Windows. You might be able to do a USB pass through, to a VM, but I haven't tested it. It could be worth a shot, if you don't have any other options.
Hi All,
Thought I would post this on here for you all, might help someone else like it did me.
What ImperialMe said is correct and I was able to do both my Razor 1 and 2 using it.

The easy method is to download the Ubuntu Image for Windows (ubuntu.com/download/desktop)
Once you have it, burn it to USB using Rufus (rufus.ie)
Boot into the USB on your PC and when prompted just run as is, no need to install.
Once running, open a terminal window and with internet access and run the following:
Code:
sudo add-apt-repository universe && sudo apt-get update
Now run:
Code:
sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot
When promoted press Y and enter
Now run:
Code:
sudo adb start-server
Connect your phone, turned on and on the home screen for example. Run the following
Code:
sudo adb devices
You should see your device listed as unauthorised and get a prompt for ADB access on the mobile phone.
run it again to confirm its authorised and then enter:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Once rebooted, use the menu to select boot into fastboot on the phone
Now back to the terminal window, enter:
Code:
Fastboot devices
You should now see your device listed and commands should work as expected.
If you need to copy anything over to the temporary USB OS then use another USB drive and copy them to it before you boot the OS.
I tried this in a VM and VMWare and HyperV both failed as the drivers they use are still Windows based and failed. Only a full OS worked.
Hope this helps someone else!
