[Q] Moto X soft bricked - Need help - Please... - Moto X Q&A

Hi guys,
I am a proud owner of Moto X (XT1053) – or better: I was… Unfortunately I bricked it.
Since two days I really have read every single thread to find a solution to bring my Moto X back to life – no success. So I need your help…
First the facts:
Bootloader is unlocked
TWRP v2.6.3.1
Stock Rom on KitKat 4.4
I bricked it when I was willing to install a backup – so I had booted into recovery and performed “format data” and “advanced wipe” in TWRP – and that was all. I´m still able to boot into fastboot or recovery – nothing more. When I perform a normal reboot the Moto logo appears and the device vibrates – that’s all, than it hangs…
I´m not able to push the backup to the phone – ADB is not working. When I´m typing “adb devices” in I only get the response “List of devices attached” without any entry…
I think it´s a driver issue: The strange thing is that when I´m in recovery mode the Windows Device Manager lists a driver-unknown XT1060 and not a XT1053. De- and reinstallation of Motorola Drivers was not helping at all.
When I´m in fastboot mode than the Device Manager shows correctly “ADB Interface –> Mot Single ADB Interface” – I thing that’s fine.
I really tried every method that is described here at Xda devs: From standard RSD lite to different scripts and batch files…
Any ideas what I can do more?
Thanks in advance, cheers

BTW, does anybody know if in recovery mode USB-OTG is working? That could be a solution too - then I need only to buy a OTG adapter...
Thanks

if you can get into fastboot download the stock tmo - motox package and flash each partition - see if that works - you may need to use mfastboot

Yup, boot into the bootloader to manually reflash all the .imgs using fastboot from the official TMo firmware and TWRP.

You guys are great - that was the right hint: To use mfastboot instead of standard fastboot... and everything works.
You made my day (or better: the last two days) - many many thanks.
cheers

FIxed Solution to Moto X soft brick issue ( SD card Wiped ).
Finally got solution for this soft brick issue.
I had same problem. I accedently wiped my whole sdcard while wiping through twrp.
lost all the files, backup n all. noting to restore !
The only thing left was TWRP on my screen.
N if i tried to reboot, it said "are you sure ? No OS installed" kind of thing. Because there wasnt !
After pulling out an all n8er reading all related posts & threads on XDA, finally i was able return to my stock firmware moto X xt1052 India (AsiaRetail) by following method. (Method applied for all moto X variants provided stock firmware is available)
Thanks to all the bros in this XDA thread
* [GUIDE][VIDEO] Moto X - Return to 100% stock (using RSD Lite OR manual flash)
*ZEDOMAX on youtube.
1.I think in the case of all sd wipe, only flashing any ROM will not work.
But anyway if you havent washed white & still stuck,
go on youtube & search for ZEDOMAX-How to Copy Files Over to your Android In a Bootloop with No OS using ADB!
you will get the video & right instructions. Very helpful.
2 Now if you are all wiped like me, Dont panic ! There is an option of flashing a stock firmware on your device.
Go to this XDA thread
[GUIDE][VIDEO] Moto X - Return to 100% stock (using RSD Lite OR manual flash)
RSD lite worked pretty good for me.
++NOTE++
1. If you are in TWRP recovery & trying to connect to RSD lite, it wont show your device.
Push power + vol up + vol down altogether for about 10 sec & let'em go.(It might stuck on BTLDR UNLKD screen, dont worry, do it again) &
You will enter in fastboot menu. RSD lite will recognize your device Now when you plug USB cable to your PC (After Installing all the drivers suggested in video), you can follow that video from thread to flash stock fmwr. RSD will now work fine.
2. Moto X toolkit is gr8, but not for xt1052. Dont go there.
3. You will get most of the StockFirmwares here. Specially for 1052 bros. I bet you wont find'em this easily anywhere else. !
* www filefactory com/folder/dd05c058d3ff8dbe/?sort=created&order=DESC&show=25 *
(I am not allowed to post links yet ! place dot after www & b4 com )
XT1052_RETAIL-ASIA_4.4.4_KXA21.12-L1.26_18_cid7_CFC_1FF.xml_2
is the SF i installed. & it was same as my original one. 624MB.
GoodLuck bros.
I hope it helps to soft bricked bros ending up here. Hit Thanks if it works & of course let me know if there is anything else.
Keep Calm & Return to StackFrmwr.

[HELP] Unbrick RAZR i X890

Hi people, I have a big problem with my friend's Razr i, I was trying to root it, but i didn't want to unlock my bootloader so tried several methods but not a single one worked, So i tried the one for unlocked bootloaders and ended up bricking my device, Now It's stuck on fastboot mode.
I've tried to flash some brazilian firmwares via RSD lite, but it get stuck on "6/9 flashing radio_signed" SO PLEASE SOMEONE GUIDE ME TO THE SOLUTION WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?
PS: Also tried to flash an argentinian Firmware but it didn't even let me start flashing bringing the error "Faled flashing process. Unknown fastboot command. (getvar)"
PS2: Also tried the eternityprj Alternate method without RSD, and it gets stuck on flashing recovery... and it also prompts some errors you can see in the attached file.
HELP ME PLEASE AS I SAID THE RAZR IS A FRIEND'S PHONE NOT MINE, I NEED TO SAVE IT.

your secure level was to high for a non bootloader method and if you done a method with a unlocked bootloader and your bootloader was locked thats bad.
unlock your bootloader >>WARRANTY VOID<< install cwm and use any backup. or flash the 39 gb fw but i think you have yet to unlokc the bootloader to safe it.. and be patient dont try to much stuff if your battery goes low you need a factory adapter or something like this to charge ur razr i if the battery is down.
regards hope you get it waorking again
I solved my problem this way

Hello good morning
I brick 2 phones trying to get one of them and in the process did fail at 2, how the recovery?
1. - Use RSD Lite version 6.1.4
2. - Use 1 extra phone (htc wildfire root and backup CWMR in case of failure)
3. - Use a GB retail rom (CFC_8.7.1I-110_IFW-39_S7_UCASMI01E1017.0R_USASMIICSRTGB_P042_A005_S1FF_fb.xml)
4. - The phone to unbrick, put fastboot mode, switching on via the power button and vol (-) until the fastboot mode screen read "fastboot reason:" if it does not, re-try until there is
5. should not say "fastboot reason: flash failure, or anything else xxxxxx xxxx xxxxx ............"
6. - Boot rsd lite 6.1.4, select retail rom, and indicate that only "unzip" connects your motorola razr I, and it connects back to the other phone (in my case htc wildfire), which has a debug mode enabled.
7. - Note, that in the window of the Rsd Lite in row 1, the Razr I phone is detected, then you start flashing in RSD Lite 6.1.4, see screenshot of your razr I to see that data is being sent, (the other phone should not be affected and only serves as a decoy to usb drivers, Rsd lite at least do not damage to my phone)
8. - Remember flashing erase the card was in your internal Razr I therefore will lose programs, photos or music you had or downloaded to the SD or internal virtual
9. - Flashing can stop and have to do everything again, but remember that no fastboot mode screen should read:
"fastboot reason: flash failure or otherwise else xxxxxx xxxxxxx ......." must be clean that is just:
"fastboot reason: "
luck : Good:
Warning, do not take responsibility for any damage to your cell involved in the process, ......... the lure of the phone can be found on youtube and just suits the way because of my need to get my phone ........ in no way am programmer or software developer, for which only comment what turned out ok to me
excuse my bad English

Tried to use your method but RSD lite got stuck on "4/11 erase userdata" and the phone says "program dummy sp block for userdata" I don't thin I understood well the part of the second phone, does it have to be on, i mean normal on, or does it have to be in flashmode aswell?

Softely Unbrick XT890 Razr i - Really Unbrick the Zombie

Well do not think that this thread is one among others. It's my experience when i messed up with my Razri. I wish I had this before, so I'm sharing it with you !
Every has his experience and a way to do it, so this is mine
First I searched everywhere, as you already did, the technique is globally the same but one important thing was missing and I had to get my Razri ON, it's an "Intel" !
I tried this app to install the needed drivers and to flash firmware, and I tried also this
Just let me explain what i had before the "softbrick" just to assure you that your Razri is not dead and it's up to you to bring it up from the dead and you can do that
I softbricked it by rooting my JB android with ICS, I messed up, in you case might be different but you are here cause we all had the same problem
Well, if your Razri Motorola XT890 cannot boot (or keeps rebooting with no end), charging the battery is [im]possible. Below is a quick how-to
RSD Lite detects the Razri as a "MEDFIELD" device. You can use RSD Lite to flash your phone whith a new Android Image [JB here, for "JB 4.1.2" I choose "CFC_9.8.2I-50_SMI-26_S7_USASMIJBRTEU.xml.zip"] but this is doable only after getting to the fastboot menu
1. Install EXE drivers for the "MEDFIELD" device
2. Run BAT file and follow the instructions inside
3. You might restart you Razri
You need to use the wright ifwi & dnx file, so I included those for JB (and not for ICS and if you did you will get "Service code corrupt" error but don't worry you have just to get the good version of ifwi&dnx for your android version)
Just to say, for everyone who has this trouble, and thinks that his Razri is dead, good new It is not, but remember that to make this work that fastboot menu is in there, somewhere just use the right combination, no matter what you have on the screen (Bootloader Unlocked screen or nothing at all just a black screen)
This is a little How-To:
Power botton+Volume Down botton at the same time
Wait until the screen flashes or the green led light to flash the immediately release the Power button while keeping the Volume down pushed (do not release ever) until the fastboot menu appears
Good Luck

Hi
do you have any solution for "service required code corrupt" plz
thanx
If you've tried to root your JB Motorola RAZR I with the ICS root-method don't worry. The ICS-root-method flash a unsave boot image, which is for the ICS firmware. That's why the RAZR with JB have problems to boot.
To make everything working again, you need:
- RAZR I PC driver
- fastboot (PC program)
- the right boot image for your JB version. (e.g. retail.EU) (download the right version from firmware-thread and search for a file "boot.img" )
If you have everything prepared do the following things:
- start your RAZR I (make sure, that it doesn't boot into bootloop)
- connect your RAZR I to your PC
- on PC start a command line/terminal and (for windows users) navigate in the directory with the fastboot.exe and make sure that the boot.img file is in the same directory
(Linux users navigate into the directory with the boot.img)
- type: fastboot flash boot boot.img
- wait until it's done
- reboot the device by typing: fastboot reboot
And that's it. Your personal data won't be touched, everything is like it was before.

It's probably beacause tou updated your Formware with the wrong version, try this out:
You need to use the wright ifwi & dnx file, so I included those for JB (and not for ICS and if you did you will get "Service code corrupt" error but don't worry you have just to get the good version of ifwi&dnx for your android version) ==> You can get it from de XML file form sbf.droid-developers.org/smi/list.php it depends in which android version you were befor, in my case i took "CFC_9.8.2I-50_SMI-26_S7_USASMIJBRTEU.xml.zip"
So you have to Unzip it and there you'll find the ifwi & dnx files
Nice

[Q] [ q ] how to repair bricked (bootloader) moto x 1052

How to repair my bricked moto x xt 1052
Hi everybody...
Im new here.
I hope someone resolve it.
My moto x xt 1052 is bricked, means it is not powerup normally, no any screen displayed, no boot image, boot animation, but goes into fastboot mode sometimes on trying to go in it using hardware key pressing i.e. Power and volume down keys.
Here is the brief description what was happened......
My moto was on stock kitkat 4.4.4 for upgrading it to lollipop On 19th jan i was tried to flash cm12 over cm11 nightly as described in that thread , for that i was unlocked my bootloader, rooted it, flashed CWM touch recovery, flashed superSu zip file and flashed cm12 nightly over cm11 as described. But my device was stucked at boot logo. For resolving that issue i was flashed boot.img of prev nightly release(i.e. 1/15) through command promp using commands '' cd Downloads... cd fastboot... fastboot flash boot boot.img.
It flashesh image file successfully and device is booted successfully. I was used it till last 4days and regularly updated cm12 nightly via cmupdater.
But 4days back i was tried to remove warning message of device is ulocked bootloaded which was irritated me using same flash method and logo.bin files which was given in another thread by other members. But my BOOTLOADER IS DAMAGED and no any display was seen. I read many threads to repair it but no anyone give easy step by step guide. I was tried to repair it using motoflasher given in 1 thred. But as shown there no my device was not shown in device manager asQUSB****9** THERE is only adb interface in device manager. Also it says in motoflasher that no device was connected and output was incorrect COM port, which was refused to flash bootloader. Another thred of rescurrection of bootloader is not so easy and also download links are not useful, shows item was removed.
There is no another way, i thought bootloader is a kernel, so i was flashed zwiel kernel by same flashing method by cmd.
The problem remaims same, moto care told thay it will cost 6k for repairong which is too high. The descreltion is given in details for anyone who finds my mistakes and tell me angd give me suggestion. Xda is big deveopers forum, i know someone will help me.. So plzzz help me.
HOW CAN I REPAIR MY BOOTLOADER AND SAVE MY MOTO which will not useful then usable as a paperweight.
Have you tried to simply re flash your stock 4.4.4 firmware via fastboot since you say you can get into fastboot mode? Or rsd your 4.4.4 firmware. If you can get into fastboot mode I think you should be able to fastboot your stock 4.4.4 and be back up and running.
When in fastboot mode and phone plugged in and you type "fastboot devices" does it display a string of numbers for your device? If yes then you are good to go.
I am having a similar issue with a Sprint Moto X (1st Gen). I am able to get to fastboot mode and I have flashed the stock image for 4.4.4 using mfastboot (also re-did it using RSD lite as the boot.img gave errors using mfastboot) but the phone only still boots to a dark screen and vibrates roughly every 15 seconds.
Anyone have an idea on what else I can try? I've been scouring the boards and youtube, but haven't really come across anything on this type of issue.
Has been RDS flashing process totally completed without any errors?
The flash finishes with no errors when it goes to reboot the phone I end up at the same spot of a black screen that vibrates like its powering on then repeats every 15 seconds like its stick in a loop. Odd... I never get the smallest hint to a picture on the screen.

Your symptom I'm quoting is what I've seen when a bad logo.bin has been flashed to the phone.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I tried a dew different logos but the end result is still the same. Vibrates on power up, no display at all and repeats until I hold the volume down and count to like 10 when the next buzz cycle would happen so I can get into fastboot mode again. I should note that I can't see anything in this screen as well. I was starting to wonder if it was the screen that was the issue but the bootloop has me thinking otherwise.
I have another one with a bad screen and a replacement is on the way. I guess I can test it on this one as well but I'm sure the result will be the same.
I took a gamble on this one thinking I could bring i back to life, I figured the last owner just soft bricked it and flashing the latest stock would override what mess they did. I'll tinker around some more if there are some other options otherwise I can just flip it for parts i guess.
If I run the fastboot getvar all I get all the phone info so it gives me hope that something can be done, I just don't know what, it seems like I keep cycling through the same few processes hoping for a different result. I even tried the power + Volume down for two minutes thing that's supposed to bring up the "other" recovery menu, but with no display, i don't know what happening.
In a last ditch effort I did a tear down and connection check for all the parts so everything has been removed and firmly re-attached, certainly was nice to do that there instead of on the one I know will work once I replace the screen, but it sucks to still come up empty handed. Sorry for the long rant, it's just been a long few days of trying to find ways to bring this phone back to life.
Solved with downgrading
Sorry for bad english.
I had same issue.
But solved prev saturday hole day.
Using manual method instead of rsd.
Make sure u properly installed adb and mfastboot. For that open cmd and type adb. It shows command lines and then mfastboot. It also shows command lines then you are ready to go. If not, google it for how to install adb and also for mFastboot
Then download proper stock firmware for ur device. unzip it, u will get files of system, boot etc. Copy all this files and paste into mfastboot folder. Open command prompt in that folder by pressing shift and right key of mouse.
Then boot your moto into fastboot mode by pressing power and volume down key for a seconds. If u will not get in to fastboot mode try for many times unless u get it. I will get it after trying half hour.
Connect ur device to pc and run commans given in the following link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/guide-moto-x-return-to-100-stock-using-t2446515
End with-- fastboot adb reboot. It will reboot ur device.
Enjoy.
Thanks for the steps, I feel like I have done that already save for the few end steps with the oem commands.
So I flashed the print image using that guide and it still vibrates every 15 seconds and no display. I grabbed the retail file from the motorola site (oddly enough they only have TMO on the file name for some reason) and I flash this and it doesn't vibrate every 15 seconds, but still no display... Maybe in the end the display is bad after all...
Like mentioned before, I already have one coming in black for the one that works for sure...so I guess I'll test it on this one as well. Just wish it was as easy to disconnect/connect as my Nokia Lumia was, that took less than 10 minutes!
So, in the end it was the display afterall. I ended up getting another replacement screen as I really did not feel like attaching it and detaching it (yeah, I'm lazy sometimes). After setting up the new screen I plugged it in to charger and what do you know, battery at 0% then the motorola bootloader unlock screen after 5 or so minutes.
Now I have two phones, lol. One screen came without the speaker on the to fro some reason... And I think I just messed up my main phone removing the frame to add in that piece so lint and such doesn't get into the phone so easily... Dang it!
Edit - Yep, now it has a nice rainbow line display across the bottom where the navigate soft button would be... Guess I have to get one more screen!

Go to the General Forum there's a dedicated thread with official roms for your particular model. Use download the ROM and flash through rsdlite. Always make a backup since it will wipe your internal storage clean.

If you installed 5.1 by using one of the TWRP backups, and did NOT flash the leaked OTA zip files, then you should have only touched /system and /boot partitions.. in that case, it would be safe to flash 4.4.4.

I have a moto x of my friend xt1053, dont not what he has done with it.
but
it is in Encryption Unsuccessful Condition.
When I connect to pc. Windows show that motorola xt1053 is connected. device manager shows MTP device under portable devices.
Mototrola USB drivers have been installed successfully.
I can not boot xt1053 into fastboot mode or recovery. Neither by adb/fastboot nor by buttons. (volume down + Power).
adb devices command does not show any numbers as it normally does when device is connected.
how get it back to working condition. any expert to help or happen to be in the same boat?

I simply cannot flash recovery

I nearly bricked my Razr i XT when downgrading from a Kitkat update to JB 4.1.2 but thanks to the great work here I am making some progress but cannot get Recovery or Root. the unlocking of bootloader via the Motorola website went fine and thanks to this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239706 I got the rom I wanted, and it's fine.
I have read many other tutorials on installing a recovery and have downloaded and tried 6 or 7 CWM and TWRP images
but it never completes - fastboot says it has, but the phone stubbornly hangs at the flashing.
I have no problems getting into fastboot, but failed many times, and in desperation have tried with USB debugging on and off
and with and without sim and sdcard inserted.
attached are some photos to show where I am stuck at, and I would greatly appreciate some help

U said fastboot hangs at flashing the recovery, but on the command lines on your PC it says finished. Have u tried booting into recovery?
What recovery did u use and where did u get it?
USB debugging, simcard and sdcard don't have anything to do with fastboot. But it is likely that u didn't know that
thanks for looking at this.
I did try booting into recovery from my PC by after rebooting it and then taking the recovery option, but the phone hung at the Motorola bootloader unlocked warning screen.
this link was typical of the various tutorials I used: http://androidteen.com/motorola-razr-i-how-to-root-and-install-clockworkmod-cwm-recovery-on-android-4-1-2-jelly-bean-firmware/
to be fair I cannot recall where I got all the recovery images from - I have that many, and had to rename them recovery.img, so cannot remember the original download names
update:
I have just tried an app from the google play named Root Android, which advised trying other apps - Kingroot, Framaroot & Towelroot,
but they all failed .
what did catch my eye yesterday was the yellow text when in fastboot that says 'dismatched partition entry'
I ignored it as the img files I was trying to flash are all much smaller than the 100mb stated,
but today I am beginning to think that perhaps my recovery partition is corrupt and look for ways to repair it.
does that make any sense?

I have solved my problem with CWM:victory:
whilst I am not 100% certain I am pretty much sure it was a driver problem - for those who this may benefit, here is what I did.
1. I did not reflash my phone, but stayed with the one in my original post.
2. remember that the main problem was that Fastboot said I had succeeded in flashing a Recovery image, but that the phone 'hung'
at flash as in my photo. and then from my phone I could not get to recovery from the fastboot menu .
3. I stumbled across a posting (on XDA, but I cannot remember where) that said the Motorola drivers were not as good as they should be and that the Motohelper one's would be fine - so I downloaded them, and have attached the zip below.
4. I then decided to tidy up my PC and uninstalled all mobile phone drivers, plus any redundant USB Device drivers
5 for the USB tidying up I tend to use USBdview, which is superb and can be found here
6 when all this was done I simply tried the reflash of CWM - and got the same situation I had been having all along
but amazingly, when I selected 'recovery' it went in CWM - I nearly fainted with surprise!
from all this I can only assume it was a driver problem as I had changed nothing else.
perhaps it was Motohelper drivers- perhaps it was USBdview that did it for me - I will never really know, nor care!
I now have CWM v6.0.1.9 - it is touchscreen and permanent, plus I use the cute Reboot by app by Petrus to control my phone.
happy days!

Hi all,
When you are reading my thread, I bet you want to root your new BLU Vivo XL. However, please be careful what you are going to do. I assume you know how to unlock bootloader for now.
Not like its brother, BLU Life one X 2016, the processing of unlock bootloader through adb will cause your phone become soft brick (bootloop). Instead of colorful logo. you are now seeing white "Android" on the black screen, and it keep going and going ...
I am not an expert, but I have been playing with a lot of phones, including recently rooted/unlock_bootloader Life X 16 which is very good phone. For right now, there is no safeway to unlock bootloader and root. All one click root are not working.
I know most of you get this phone from Bestbuy, so you sill have time to return or exchange.
*** If you brick your phone, do not too worry. Assume you have USB debug checked and you unlocked bootloader ( that is why you brick it), go ahead and flash TWRP in fastboot, then download firmware and restore it in TWRP

I am that guy. Got the phone from Best Buy. Did the OEM unlock and USB debugging from developer options. Next I booted into Fastboot and issued the "fastboot oem unlock". It proceeded to erase the phone including the boot image. Now there doesn't seem to be anyway to get back to the bootloader to flash a recovery image. Strangely there doesn't seem to be anyway back into the bootloader if you can't boot into recovery. I have tried every key combination that I can think of but it seems that without a recovery you are not getting back into the bootloader.
Any suggestions would certainly be appreciated. It's 250 miles round trip to BB for me. I live fairly remote in Idaho.
Thanks

My recovery is still untouched, so does bootloader. That is why I said mine os softbrick. It means if I have the stock ROM, then I am ready to go back alive again. I cannot imagine how could you erase the stock recovery? Unless you failed the custom recovery, then it probadly hard bricked. If I can find how to fix it then I will post here. I am currently working around with MTK Droid tool and SP Flash tool, but they are working partially only. Cannot write out the scatter file. Man, this phone is tough.

This is because first these phones are MTK67xx phone, and 2nd they are running on new android 5.1. So the way they are rooted different with the old ways.

Pretty sure I've looked closely but if anyone has a link take me to your leader. My thanks to the awesome person that put this tutorial together. Any ideas if this restore method with Bypass the Factory reset protection?
Just as a quick update. Simply formatting with the flash tool. And installing the gionee firmware was enough to bypass the Google factory reset prevention. Hope this helps anyone else that forget there Gmail address they used.

Mine is setup as "/sdcard0/TWRP/BACKUPS/BLU_VIVO_XL/2016-02-12--04-36-53_S_plus". I put the extracted files in the "2016-02-12--04-36-53_S_plus" folder.

So that worked for the restore. I was able to get back into what appears to be the factory installed ROM. However I lost all of my SIM card functionality now my phone will not recognize my SIM no matter which slot I stick it into. I tried doing a complete wipe and restoring again but nothing appears to be working. I am thinking I am going to have to go back to the GIONEE based firmware.....

That's strange. grampyog had the same problem. But the backup rom worked for me and eksasol. Very strange.
cas8180, I uploaded a twrp backup containing nvram and secro. Can you download it, try it, and see if it works?

That did it my good man! I have a complete bundle now with boot logo and the nvram secro files you included I feel compelled to mirror so let me work on that. Thanks a bunch thanks to you I am back in business!
Here is the link for the complete TWRP backup that should be able to restore any device back to stock. https://www.dropbox.com/s/x4lgfv27jtgirkh/Blu_VivoXL_backup-2016-03-05.zip?dl=0
