Take Meta-inf folder from original apk and copy it to new one. Open apks with 7zip or winrar. And I think that you need to copy AndroidManifest too.

[Q] modding APKs and ODEX files

Hi, just have a question regarding modding apks inside /app in odexed roms.
Have read a few threads regarding deodexing and decompiling apks, and just wish to clarify one thing:
For apks which have a corresponding odex file, is it possible to modify them without deodexing the whole rom? Intend to edit some xml files in the Contacts.apk file but wasn't sure of the exact procedure.
Here's what I tried:
1. Used xultimate to deodex
2. Used apktool to decompile apk
3. Edited xml
4. Used apktool to compile
5. Added META-INF and AndroidManifest.xml from original apk using 7zip
6. Deleted Contacts.apk and Contacts.odex
7. Copied Contacts.apk over
Thanks in advance!

I am also interested in the answer ...
I would like to theme some widgets and theme the statusbar on a stock ROM. I am not sure is it possible ? And what is the procedure with the odexed files ?

Framework-res.apk won't compile

Hi everyone,
it's 3 days I'm trying to edit the framework-res.apk, but I can't make it work either with apkmanager (no errors shown) nor with apktool (here some exception errors). I've even tested the UOT Kitchen but when I flash the archive, it just doesn't run and get struck on the boot loop. Working on MoDaCo Fr16 beta3, any idea of what this could mean?
Thanks in advance,
Tiwiz
use a version 1.3.1 of APKtool instead of 1.3.2
I'll try and update the post if I succed or not

The problem already started on FR16 because it happened to me since FR16.
Dunno how to ask him, already posted on MoDaCo forum as well... trying to tweet him.
Btw, tried even with new apktool 1.4.1 but nothing, still struck on boot loop.
I'll attach my framework-res, in case someone finds out how to deal with it.

i tried with apkmanager 1.4.7. , also no success !
UOT kitchen the same ...
i can´t find out what´s wrong ...
folder names have changed (from drawable-hdpi-v4 to drawable-hdpi) but this can´t be the problem or ?
As a workaround, you can use themed framework-res.apk from FR14, it works for me on FR17 ...

Could you post a working framework-res.apk? I'd try to use it on the kitchen and see if it works. Tweeted to Paul twice about this bug, but no answer yet.

Tell me what modifications you want to apply and i'll upload the one i compiled. Then someone needs to test if it works cuz i dont have an o2x (maybe i will in the future)...

I'd just need a basic (LG version) framework-res.apk that surely works, but I can't find it anywhere... in case, I can test yours, if you like

Fix builded framework-res.apk
Hi guys,
I got same problem. I fix it by these steps after compiling with apktool 1.3.1 is done.
1. Open original framework-res.apk file in 7zip.
2. Open compiled version of framework-res.apk from dist folder in 7zip.
3. Drag & Drop META-INF and AndroidManifest.xml from original into compiled.
That's all. Now compiled version is fixed & signed. This extra step works for me.
Can't get it work... could you take a look to mine? I can't understand what's wrong with it :-S
I'll post both mine and the original apk from MoDaCo's Kitchen.

take this one, it works with UOT Kitchern and you can apply without bootloop in FR18
orig.framework_MoDaCo_fr14
What worked for me is this:
Compile a theme using the upload of the framework-res.
Then when it is ready replace the update-binary, and insert the lge-res.apk in the same map as framework-res. Do this with a program like winrar.
It was a pain in the butt getting there for a newbie like me.
files you need are in this rar:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=I46AAQA6
My theme as a example:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HKZBEFHX

Compiling framework-res.apk using your method still gives me bootloops. So it doesn't really work.

[UTILITY][TOOL] 9patchPngSuite [Windows&Linux]

Well, i actually cook the ROM MIUI for the SGS I9000 at miui.es and i was having a little fight with themes a few months ago. I allways stop at the same point, its so esay to compile previously decompiled .9.png, but what happens with compiled ones?
So here it's my solution, based on the grat idea of @tommytomatoe and his tool forMac OS X. It's called 9patchPngSuite and it let's you decompile, compile and launch draw9patch without the need of install android SDK.
How it works?
Easy, for every one in miui.es teamwork its not new its similar to other scripts i made, for the rest:
Windows
unzip 9patchPngSuite.zip in your prefered folder and double click on menu.bat
Linux
Unizip 9patchPngSuite.tar.gz in your prefered folder
give execution permissions (usually chmod 777)
type ./menu
Will show us 4 options
****************************
9patchPngSuite
v1 Windows edition
---------------------------------
by kakomalo...
thx @Xxfoc miui.es
and @tommytomatoe xda.com
****************************
1.Decompile *.9.png in Compiled folder (will clean decompiled folder)
2.Launch draw9patch (drag and drop files)
3.Compile RAW *.9.pnd in Decompiled folder (new created in output folder)
4.Info on draw9patch
x.Exit
Select option:
It's no so hard to understand but...
1.Decompile *.9.png in Compiled folder (will clean decompiled folder)
Decompile all .9.png in compiled folder, don't care if it's other kind of png or file, only works with .9.png.
2.Launch draw9patch (drag and drop files)
Launch draw9patch, drag & drop files on it to edit. It's no needed to be installed android SDK tools, it's on tools folder
3.Compile RAW *.9.pnd in Decompiled folder (new created in output folder)
Compile all .9.png in decompiled folder, don't care if it's other kind of png or file, only works with .9.png, and let the new compiled ones in output folder.4.Info on draw9patch
Open thefault browser and goes to http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/wiki/9PatchImages
You have seen it's no difficult to use, i hope you like it.
Special thanks to @Xxfoc from miui.es for give me the idea, @tommytomatoe for his Mac OS X tool and brut.all for the work.

Im not sure what do you try but, if its an error compiling .9.png make sure you have the descompiled & patched files in "decompiled" folder, before use option 3 in the menu.
Big thanks !
Very fast to edit .9.png now
This is a huge help, thank you.
The download links are down.
From where I could download?
Un saludo

Just like to say a big thanks for the 9patchPngSuite - it's saving me loads of time.
I had no problem recompiling edited .9.pngs using xUltimate-d9pc but it was a pain to have to decompile an apk just to edit a couple of .9.pngs
Working link please
Someone, please give working link to download this tool. Thanks!

[SOLVED] Can't decompile SecSettings.apk

Hey buddys, I found a [HOW TO] for Multi-window port.. I'm going to give a try
Now, my problem is that the environment is setted up, I think, correctly but I can't decompile "SecSettings.apk"
Every time I try with "APK Multi Tool" "Apktool" "Apk Manager" I have errors like this:
This is my ADB Variable:
And my PATH is this:
%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_11\bin;C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin;C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk;C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools;C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\tools
The PATH is correct because there are JDK and JRE installed, same for SDK..
How can I fix this? Thanks in advance people!!

Try to put resurces.arsc from compiled to original file. With WINRAR, and set compression to lowest - storage it is I think. And then try it.
