I am awaiting my 3rd replacement handset from 3 UK
My first handset had an issue when using the camera to record video - despite the room being quiet the video had loud hissing on it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQ1xApO0wN8
My second hadset has a problem with the screen where it is not sealed correctly at the top and also a proximity sensor issue
(which I discovered this morning)
3 uk are as said sending me a third replacement handset out and have said after the 3rd handset if there is a fault it has to go to HTC for repair which isn't right and I will be fighting that (however im hoping that the 3rd is perfect)
Both handsets I have had so far have been from the batch HT338W.
I have just spoken to HTC who say they are not aware of a batch issue and explained their repair service which has a 5 day turn around
I wanted to know if you have a HTC One in Silver from the batch HT338W and want to know have you any issues with it ?
I have set up a poll ....
simply
No issues
Minor issues
Major issues - Kept Phone
Major Issues - Returned for replacement
Can you also reply back to explain what your issues are if there are any and also where you got the phone from (eg phones4u, 3 uk, Amazon etc)
I am hoping to escalate to HTC regarding this batch and would like some evidence
Thanks
I'm not sure if this is just your batch... I just tested my camera and also hear continuous loud hissing. My batch number is FA33K ...
I have a hissing noise present when I play all audio, video included, no matter how I am playing the audio (bluetooth speakers, headphones, the phones speakers, etc). Play a quietish song through decent headphones (the ones in the box?) at the lowest volume, thats when the noise is most noticeable.
Edit- Also have you tried playing the video recorded by the phone on another device?
In my opinion give it back and buy it next month.
HTC are aware of the hissing and its a software issue.

I rang them and they categorically stated that they are not. Other people on this forum have said that they have no issues with hissing, suggesting that it is a hardware issue.
This is my 4th HTC One. Also bought from 3uk. Camera issues. While having shiny white things in focus, black stripes were running over the object. For example i focused a white car. Phone made it black striped bright blue. This one however has no issues. Runs smoothly. They have to change it for you. Accept no repair bull****. Good luck!

Four is bad thought I was doing good with three replacements
Just out of curious we're they all the same batch ?
Believe me I won't be accepting a repair as I'm within 28 days I've documented all faults by picture or video
What's the serial of your perfect one ?
First 6 numbers and letters only needed
Wonder if you got a new batch ?

Waiting for my 3rd replacement from 3UK. Gaps, overhang, chips on the back on both device. First device HT32... had the hissing on video, haven't tried on the second device (HT33J).
No issues with the picture quality.

did 3 replace it without fuss ? they said that if the next handset is faulty it needs to go to HTC

Proximity Sensor issues
Not good
Also Back and Home not lite .. down to proximity sensor faulty I presume

Do you have beats audio on? This causes a really loud hiss when playing back video recordings. However, when this is deselected, it causes significant reduction in hiss. I found that in this latter condition, there's comparable hiss to that found on my other phones.
Currently using: BB Z10, HTC ONE and GALAXY NOTE 2

Replaced first one without fuss, but had to wait over 2 weeks as no stock. Refused to replace the second until I sent an official complaint to HQ. Now agreed to replace but again no stock so have to wait.

Just tried the video thing in a silent room and I can hear the hissing. I think I can live with it, though.

that is not a proximity sensor issue. if the phone is on speaker then the proximity sensor won't turn on. it only turns on when you're using the handset mode to turn off the screen.

oops im bad - uploaded the wrong one thanks for noticing.
I did a video with speakers on and also off .. should have loaded the one with the speakers off
and also showed the app which tests proximity and as you will see its not budging when I cover the sensor at the top
Did work out from my note 2 that the proximity sensor only kicks in when the phone is on normal mode and not speaker mode
corrected and proper video now uploaded

Hissing only happens when beats is selected on this is not a fault also the Mic is sensitive

No issues that I am aware of, video has good quality pictures and audio.
There does appear to be a very small gap (miniscule) at the top, between aluminium (speaker) grill and plastic that is insignificant to me.
In summary I am very happy with the build quality of my HTC One
I wish you luck.

It seems like the vibration motor on my HTC One is loose, as whenever it vibrates there's a slight rattling sound. I've also noticed that I can hear this sound whenever i tap the screen, or back of the phone, anywhere near the top, which is where I'm guessing the motor is found. This is gradually getting more and more annoying so I'm wondering if I should send it off to get fixed, so has anyone else experienced this problem?

Yes well I have noticed it too, but as I have noticed this sound before with other smartphones. I think it has something to do with the camera components. Although it wasnt caused by the motor when I heard that. This motor vibration setting is way to strong. HTC should reduce the strenght when its activated in a next update or so, at least I hope they will.
it's the image stabilisation components for the camera.

Same here I turned of the haptic-feedback which I cant stand and I don't really notice it any more.
My dad's One has this issue, it sounds like the vibration motor is causing something glass to move and instead of hearing a smooth motorised vibration it sounds more like glass vibrating. It's really annoying when typing in a quiet location, it sounds like a crappy keyboard typing sound
My One isn't doing this, it feels and sounds normal.

Got my one today, just noticed the rattling, seems it is very very common! Personally I can't stand it, can I learn to live with it?! Or send it back in hope for a rattle free replacement?
Htc could have a very large warranty issue in the coming months!
But by large the rattle seems to be in most.

I am not seeing this in ny one. But I am getting worried with all these reports... HTC should have spent a little more time QCing their flagship product....
They will definately have warranty issues in the next couple of months. Tons of reports on dead pixels, blown speakers, gaps in physical build, horizontal lines on LCD and now this....
As much as I love this phone I am very much considering returning it... I'd hate to have something go wrong and be without a phone for a little while, while it's being repaired....

any have a solution to this?
just want to join the crowd...
My HTC One is also rattling .. it began doing so yesterday, 7 days after i got it
I can't decide weather i should simply disable haptic feedback -- the motor is too strong at the moment, which i hope they fix with firmware/updates
btw. the phone also have slight gaps in top and buttom, but i dont really considder them being a problem...

I'm having this problem too. I just turned down haptic feedback intensity for swift key and everything is fine now. I don't know if I should bother exchanging for another HTC one since many people seem to be having this problem..
Same issue here. I upgraded to the HTC One and was impressed by how solid that vibrator was. Dropped it in a toilet and toasted it. Got another and it had this problem. You could shake the phone and hear something faint. Replaced that one and same thing. It's my only hardware gripe with the phone as I enjoy having haptic feedback. It's probably a hardware issue.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using XDA Premium HD app
2 of my friends with htc one's have the same issue. don't think it's worth exchanging..just wait for an update that will reduce vibration intensity for now. other than that...LOVE the phone
Im on my second HTC One and both had that rattly sound to the haptic feedback, which is annoying. Weird thing is that you can hear it if you shake the phone.
I'm a HTC One user..and i had to search so many pages just to find out all the basic problems with HTC One device..so now i'm making a specific thread for this..
This list will help those people who are planning to buy HTC One, have planned to buy HTC One or have already bought HTC One.
I'm gonna list down the problems with this device in 2 categories..first the very common problem with the device and second the rare problems that only few people are facing..
This post will be regularly updated depending on the people comments..so if you have any problem with your device people do comment on this thread..i will read each and every comment and update the data..
Common Problems
1. Gap Problem : The gap between the speaker grill and the body..both at top and bottom. Since HTC is promoting this phone as 'ZERO GAP' phone..this manufacturing fault is unacceptable.. http://img541.imageshack.us/img541/628/img2897q.jpg
2. Camera Problem : I have personally faced this problem.
Picture : http://i.imgur.com/vQ0b0np.jpg
Video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4p7a9tdNVYo&feature=youtu.be
Thread for this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317507
This problem is noticeable when you take pictures in low light. By default if you take a picture in a dark room..the picture should be black..since no light source is available..but in defective HTC One it's red/purple.
Again this is totally unacceptable since HTC has marketed this phone as the best phone for low light pictures..
3. Loudspeaker : This problem was there in my first device..when at maximum volume..there is a hissing sound from the speakers.. This sound/vibration is also visible when calling someone..or when you play music at max volume.
Again HTC has marketed this device as the phone with the best sound speakers..so i have no idea whether HTC has a Q&C dept or not..because the quality is really poor..
4 Dead Pixels : Many people have reported dead pixels..
5. Proximity Sensor: The proximity sensor is not working in few devices.
Other Problems
1. The home and back button weren't working properly..but after the update i think it's working fine.
2. Few people have noticed purple tint in the center of the pictures taken by the camera...
3. Mic problem
4. Death Grip
5. Cracked Camera Glass
There is no possible solution for the above issues..the only possible thing to do is to get it repaired or replaced..
I have already got one device replaced and will be getting another device replaced this week till i don't find a perfect device!
So please do let us know if you have faced any problem with your HTC one..so i can make a check-list for the new HTC One users..so that they can buy a defect free HTC ONE!
I had to return 1 phone because the back mic didn't work so I had no speakerphone. I have read that HTC has since changed the type of mic being used during manufacture.

The easiest way to test is to take a video in HD mode as it uses both mics to record video sound in stereo. During the recording run your fingers over the 2 mics one after another.
When playing it back you should hear the noises from your finger touching the mics.

Well. Honestly, I don't see the gap issue since mine is black so I can't really tell. The only problem I've had is 7 dead pixels and with a 1080p screen, the only time I was seriously able to figure that out was in recovery mode at night when all the lights were out. So, I don't really see any major problems.
I have a flawless phone besides a bulging volume rocker and the biggest issue - TERRIBLE signal... No dead pixels that I've noticed, speakers sound fine, maybe a little buzzing but nothing out of the ordinary...
Coming from an S4... Which was flawless... I'm not happy about the signal issue and the usual fanfare of going through ridiculous steps to unlock the bootloader, get S-OFF, etc., but it seems like a decent device. Definitely a much better screen overall than the S4, not very laggy (I haven't gone to 4.2.2 just yet because I literally just started using it today but the S4 blew me away how quickly you could use it from power off to power on but the lag goes away after Sense loads) but I'm having radio issues all the way around (except the "death grip") - my GPS doesn't want to lock, mobile handshakes not only take forever but I can't get LTE with my case on, etc. And the speakers really aren't THAT impressive. The S4 is similarly loud although I heard HTC turned the volume down on a firmware upgrade because people were complaining they were too loud so who knows.
I just might have to start the damn warranty exchanges for the signal. *sigh* I see HTC's quality control has not improved over the years...

They should at least know the problems you are facing with this device!
I bought my ONE from amazon.de and, after 2 months, I cracked the screen:crying: .I called htc and they sent me to the official service in my country(Romania). The guys there replaced my htc one (to my big and pleasant surprise) with a new one.I updated it to 4.2.2, but I got some complaints about my voice not being heard loud enough on this new phone.I don't seem to rememeber to have had this on the original one.....
Is it the mic?Or something to do with the network?Anyone elese having similar problems with the microphone during calls?
P.S. By the way, does anybody know how to enable/disable noise cancelation on this phone?
What I've noticed is that my calls aren't as clear as on my Galaxy S3, not sure if noise cancellation is doing too much, but my calls are definitely more "muffled", in fact I almost always have to use my headset to hear people loud and clear. Loudspeaker mode works fine though

Yes, I know about that, that is why I wanted to buy the phone as quick as possible, probably the first one, which I bought in april, was from the first batches, with that mic in it,and this one is not. But,stil, this doesn't explain the low volume....
I mean,I did a test: I put on a song on my ipad3 in a quiet room at about a quarter of the full volume and opened shazam on my htc one and got at about 1-1,5 meters away from the tablet. To my surprise, the mic recorded the sound and shazam recognized the song!!After this little experiment,my conclusion is that the mic is working ok,but, during the calls something is a little wrong!

I think this is because there is a difference in frequencies of the sound output from both the speakers. The upper one tends to give more treble while the lower one has better mids, that's why the lower one sounds louder. Hold the speakers to your ear one by one and see the difference.

The difference is so huge that I don't have to keep it to my ear to notice it. This is the actual problem that I have. The top one is tooooooo low compared to the bottom one and not just while listening to music/movies but even while having a phone call, the in-call volume is incredible low. It seams like total volume of the top speaker decreased ten times.
Right now I'm an exchange emails process with HTC technical support... I'm curious what is their final verdict going to be.

Just try brushing it with a toothbrush (center part of the top grille). Actual service involves disassembly of the phone and then replacement of the speaker. HTC should be able to get it done without any further damage

Guys...all you have to do is clean the speakers with an air duster. I have this issue often with my phone too. Sometimes even my notification light gets really dim, all I do is clear out the dust from the speaker grills and the sound and lights are back to normal.
I totally agree for the air duster but it's not easy to get your hands on one....
