Hi All! So I got a Nook HD+ for Xmas and am trying to put the new KitKat os on it. For some background, I have a pretty decent grasp of IT and have worked in tier 1 support roles before. I have been trying to follow along with the post here " http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2579945" and I am having pretty crappy luck. I have tried several variation at this point but can not get things installed correctly onto the nook. My next step is to try going back to square one, I restored the nook from the original back up.So I'm ready try again. I would like to install KitKat over riding the OS that comes on the Nook so I have access to the internal HD and an micro sd card to expand onto. I'm not sure from reading several posts but using "succulent (aka Iamafanof) " blog it should be possible I believe correct? I have found some decent guides on how to do this with Jelly Bean but having never done this before I get lost in some of the rhetoric and short hand I find in the blog. Advice? Criticism? Thoughts?
Thanks from a newb in the arena of flashing roms.
Big Mike
1) probably help if you post in the appropriate thread.
2) are you rooted?

Probably a bit too vague for anyone to offer any real help.
Are you using a KitKat-friendly recovery to flash?
To me, the easiest way to me to install it is to copy the KitKat rom (http://goo.im/devs/succulent/ovation/cyanogenmod/internal//cm_ovation_11.0_03JAN2014_HD.zip) and the PA Gapps (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942) and the TWRP (http://goo.im/devs/succulent/ovation/recovery//flash_recovery_ovation_TWRP_2.6.3.0_internal.zip) or CWM (http://goo.im/devs/succulent/ovation/recovery//flash_recovery_ovation_CWM_6.0.4.5b_internal.zip) to your internal storage. Boot off your bootable CWM SDcard. Format /system, /data (excluding /data/media, there should be an option to wipe data without wiping /data/media) and /cache, then flash the TWRP or CWM saved on your internal storage. Reboot the device and press and hold power+vol. down momentarily when the Nook logo first appears to get into recovery. You should be looking at whichever recovery you flashed at this point. Then from there, flash the kitkat rom and the gapps, reboot and you're done (aside from deleting the installation zips if you don't want to keep them for emergencies). If you want to use ART then enable it and reboot again, preferably before you install more apps.
You might wanna install this build posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600572 instead. I think it's a bit more stable and smoother.

I searched before I posted this question since I know it is a common question but I can't seem to figure out the problem with my phone.
I recently just bought it and I decided to root it. I following the instructions from wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_Nexus_One_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod When I went through the instructions, everything went through smoothly. No errors, all were complete installs but my Nexus One is stuck at the boot screen now. I waited for over 20 minutes but it wouldn't budge at all. I've done the procedure after "fastboot oem unlock" and "Flash CyanogenMod" already but it doesn't seem to make a difference. The flash that I'm currently using is the update-cm-5.0.5.1-N1-signed and gapps-passion-ERE36B-2-signed. Do you have any idea what could be wrong with it or what do you suggest any steps I should take to fixing it?
I don't think my phone is bricked since I'm able to go into Bootloader mode and Recovery.
Try a wipe and if not reflash and re wipe.
Mine is doing this too and i did exactly what OP did
Even after a wipe. Im reflashing right now
5.0.5.2 has just been released. Apparently fixes this bug. get it while it's hot.
Its still taking forever to boot. Im still watching it. What exactly do i do to do a "Wipe"?
Damn I don't have a microSD reader. =\
Is there any way to put the ROM on the microSD via Nexus One?
I'm having the same problem. This is on the recently released ATT compatible N1. I am able to go into Amon_Ra's 1.7 recovery and successfully install the V5.0.5.2 and gapps-passion-EPE54B-signed.zip but still have the same problem. Stuck on the X with the lock. I keep putting the original Rom back and doing it again after a full wipe and still have the same problem.
you dont have your usb cable? I was thinking about that too. Cause i know the nexus has its own memory internally but it doesn't show up under my computer. maybe you can push files through command prompt or something. or on linux
If you have the Amon_Ra's recovery you can do a wipe once you're in recovery.
If you made a backup of the original rom you can just put that back and boot into the original rom. once there, you can mount the usb and download it to the sdcard
you can also download the cyanogen updater from the android market and download the rom to your sdcard to install.
What did the trick for me was fresh install of Cyanogen 5.0.5 which i got to boot succesfully AND THEN use cyanogen updater to get to 5.0.5.2

2 ways, either plug it in via usb and mount it from your notification bar on the phone, or download the rom via the web browser on your phone, then use Astro file browser(free) to move it from downloads to the root folder of your SD card, then flash from recovery.

How long does it usually take to restore? I have about 18 lines of dots. Should it be taking this long?
5.0.5 first then update
Install the base 5.0.5 first then the google add on if you want the apps. After you boot like that update to the latest CM. I saw this some other place and this worked for me, don't wanna take anyone's credit.
Thanks everyone. 5.0.5.2 worked flawlessly once I was able to put it on my microSD.
If you guys don't have a MicroSD Reader, and have the AmonRA recovery, just boot to the recovery and chose I think the 3rd option (Toggle MS USB). You'll be able to see the phone as a mass storage device.
Hey guys-
Quick question for you. I see that you can "burn" a bootable SD to run Honeycomb, Froyo, etc. from the SD without having to install it to the internal memory. Are you still required to root the device if you use this method? Can I pop in the card when I want to mess around with those version of the OS, and simply reboot without the card in to go back to the BN stock OS?
Furthermore, can this also be done using a pre-rooted 1.1 image? I would like to play around with this, but the wife doesn't want me breaking her device.

Yes, everything here is exactly correct.

Cool. I've seen the instructions for Froyo and Honeycomb. Is it possible to boot a pre-rooted 1.1 image from SD, since 1.1 is obviously the most stable?
I have a question along this line...
I once-upon-a-time messed up a rooted NC after installing CWR and then Flashing Recovery. Something happened to the flash and when I tried to 'Reboot into Recovery' it would loop at the 'Touch the Future of Reading' and wouldn't even allow me to get to CWR or the stock recovery.
I solved this issue by creating a Froyo bootable SD and then loading CWR via ADB into the Froyo environment. Once I did that, I open Rom Manger and flashed recovery again. This overwrote the bad boot sector I had and then I shut down, removed the Froyo SD and was able to boot back into my rooted stock rom from internal.
My point being that even though I was running a booted virtual environment, I was able to affect the internal areas.
What is the line between virtual environments and real? What are the types of actions I should NOT do while running a bootable SD if I don't want to mess up the built-in rom?
Hi everyone I really hope someone of you can help me with this issue
This is my coinfiguration
Nexus One, with the latest radio & HBoot installed, ClockWork recovey 3.0.0.5 and original SD as memory card (4GB)
After wiping everything from recovery and formatting the Mcard with 128MBswap & 512MBExt I am no longer able to install any CyanogenMod 7 release either nightly or stable. I did try to clear storage from bootloader and replacing the RA 2.2.1 without success. At the moment the only rom I can install is the MIUI and the stock one GRI40, all Cyanogen got stuck after the boot. Is any other way to do a kind of hard reset at the phone?
Many thanks in advance
EDIT: apologize I did post into a wrong area, MOD please move to the correct place
Thanks
Are you flashing a compatible gapps?
Also, try using a different recovery...
as i posted i did try both recovery (ra 2.2.1 & clockwork). i haven't flashed any google apps as I did flash the rom only
The Nexus One doesn't need a swap partition, try re-partitioning your card without that.
Try to download this: http://www.mediafire.com/?bxfijcp6f6bf1me
Then flash it from Amon-RA. It'll format your system partition too.
mindfrost82 thanks for the link but it seems not working, do you have another one available?
Many thanks

I can't tell you how many users PMed me after using that format utility to find out that when they try to flash a new ROM, they only can boot to recovery, no matter what they do. A nandroid backup with a system image or going thru a restore process involving fast boot img restores is the only fix. Just reporting what I have seen myself using that utility.
guys thanks for your effort but I gave up. I still don't understand why my N1 won't launch Cyanogen7, but for sure there is something wrong on my telephone. After installing without issue the Kang-o-rama 1.2 b3 I notice that after launching the market the main page is blank stating that there is no application available...O_O
Try this:
Install the recovery following what is said here in "Second Method (manual method)"
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.p...pdate_Guide#Second_Method_.28manual_method.29
BUT use this recovery http://mirrorbrain.cyanogenmod.com/cm/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.4-passion.img instead of the 3.0.0.5.
After that, flash this file
http://www.mediafire.com/?bxfijcp6f6bf1me
(it deeply wipes everything away, thank temasek for this stuff)
Then flash CM7 release and Gapps following what is said here
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/20115-cyanogenmod-7-for-nexus-one-v700-10-april-2011/
I hope this helps
I'll give a try, thanks for the tips
Hi all,
I've got a Nook HD+ running CM10.1 with the hybrid SD card installation (many thanks to everyone who helped develop this - it rocks! ),
and I'm having issues whenever I reboot the device.
When left alone, 9 times out of 10 it will just stay on the Cyanogenmod animation indefinitely (well 10 minutes is the most I've left it)....
It always seems to see the SD card as it never just reboots to stock (always see the Cyanogenmod boot logo) so I can get into CWM or boot the nook to stock.
The only way I seem to be able to get it to boot consistently is to boot into CWM is to re-flash the CM10.1 rom / load the converter zip and the reboot from CWM.
I've installed quick boot into CM10.1 but I've nat managed to get it to install into stock yet as I'm getting the 'Installation Blocked' message - So I'm guessing that I need to sideload that in from my PC (unless I'm missing an obvious way to install this via the stock Nook interface?)
Does everyone else have this issue?
It's not the end of the world as I'll probably only have to boot from cold if I have a crash, but it would be good to know if there are any more graceful solutions out there....?
Also, is there a way to get your PC (windows 7) to read the large partition on the SD card after it has been imaged (so you can write files to it directly)?
Thanks for you help
Macca
When it keeps getting stuck on the boot animation, try going to CWM and the advanced menu and wipe dalvik cache and see if it boots ok. If that does not work, just try flashing the converter without reflashing the CM.
To put quick boot on stock you need to root stock and add at least the extras zip so that unknown sources is authorized. But I recommend the whole gaps + extra zip. Quick boot will not work without root.
And no, there is no way for Windows to see the sdcard partition by directly inserting the card in the PC. You must leave the card in the Nook and use the USB cable.

Thanks for the quick reply mate,
I'll try just clearing the dalvik cache next time.
Thanks for clearing up the quick boot thing - I'll root the stock later tonight.
Cheers

Hello again mate,
I might need a little more help it would seem.......
I had read a reply you had posted in another thread that I should be able to just boot into CWM and flash the stock Nook ROM with your zips (even though I already have hybrid CM10.1 installed.
So - I did just that....
Before doing any of this I did do a backup in CWM
I downloaded "NookHD-HDplus-Universal-Root-rev2-(02.02.13).zip" and "NookHD-HDplus-Gapps+Extras.zip" to my internal memory, booted into CWM and Flashed both zip files (universal root rev 2 first).
When I rebooted, I forgot to hold down the nook key to boot to stock and I ended up in CM10.1 but flashing the zips above seemed to have messed around with CM10.1 as I had no apps pinned and the dialogue box asking about which launcher I wanted popped up....?
So I went back into CWM did a restore and re-flashed CM10.1 / Converter.zip's and my CM10.1 installation is now back to normal.
However, it still looks like the stock is rooted as I get the launcher dialogue box and have assess to the google app store etc...
Quick boot still won't work though as it's saying that it can't detect that the device is rooted....
So, If you managed to make it through all that - What did I do wrong and how badly have I messed my nook up?
What do I need to do to successfully root my stock?
Thanks again for your help
Macca
I might have figured it out myself now...
I didn't remove the SD card from the nook after rooting stock before rebooting out of CWM.
I've just re-rooted stock, took the SD card out and then rebooted and it took me into the rooted stock without any issues (quick boot now works as well )
CM10.1 also seems to be happy so it looks like I'm golden (it booted 1st time after quick booting out of stock)
Cheers
Macca
Back in May I got a nook HD+ and installed the latest nightly build very easily to SD card. Lately its been kinda slow and wanted to install 10.1.3-RC2. First, I took out the working card and used a new one (backup purposes). First I downloaded cm-10.1.30RC2-ovation.zip with the nook to the downloads folder. With the new card I used win32diskimager to image sdcard-only sdcard-cwm-ovation-sdv1.img.zip. I installed it like I did back in May and Im not sure what happened but I did something wrong and if I leave the card in to boot, it goes to CWM v6.0.3.2. If I take the card out it just hangs at the cyanogen circle just keeps going around forever. I can't get back to the stock nook os at all (although I dont ever want to use the stock nook os anyways).
I re-imaged two cards with a fresh download of the files and still having problems. I tried wiping the data/factory reset and wite cache partition then reinstall cyanogen for something to try, but same results. I also tried the a hybrid install using sdcard-cwm-ovation-hybridv3.zip but same results.
Good thing is that the original card I made back in May still works same as always (however when I use it after re-trying to install 10.1.3 a screen comes up "android is updating optimizing app XXX of 227)-only for the first time after trying a reinstall.
Im not sure what I did. Any ideas for something to try?
The problem is that rc2 is for installing on internal memory and you are trying to install it to SD. So instead of installing to SD, it installed it to internal memory and messed up stock.
To fix it, first download one of my plain stock ROM zips from my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature. See item 6. Then burn a new image for emmc CWM (get it at that same thread) to one of your new SDs and boot to that. It will say the CWM is for stock in the title. Flash that plain stock ROM, followed by a factory reset. Then you should be ok.
If you want to update your SD install, you must pick a ROM zip from the SD thread.
Sent from my Nook HD+ running CM10.1 on emmc.
Thank you. I got it working.
