[Q] Moto x developer edition root? - Moto X Q&A

Can anyone give me direction on how to root the developer edition?
Thanks

unlock bootloader, flash custom recovery, connect by adb and mount system as rw. then add su and superuser.apk with proper rights. profit

Unlock the BL, flash TWRP 2.6.3.1 then flash superSU. And that is it.
It is recommended to use Motorola Fastboot utility.

Did you even take a look at any threads regarding how to root the developer edition? All the information is there...

Do you have unlocked bootloader? If so, from the bootloader do this (assuming you have android SDK and the mfastboot binary downloaded):
mfastboot flash recovery twrp-2.6.3.1-ghost-4.4.img
get twrp from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/development/recovery-unlocked-twrp-2-6-3-1-android-t2534850
Now boot into recovery. From the bootloader screen, just volume down to highlight "recovery" and press VOL UP to select/open it.
Now you should be booted into TWRP. When you EXIT TWRP, it will ask if you would like to install SuperSU Installer. Select YES!
Reboot into android. You will find "SuperSU Installer" in your app drawer.
Run it. It will give you a couple options. Choose "PLAY STORE" option.
Now you are rooted, with custom recovery & SuperSU!
(NONE of this is possible without unlocked bootloader)
If you bought your phone from att or Verizon then you're out of luck. All known exploits have been patched

Yes, unlocked bootloader. I've done the process. The recovery is fully installed, but when I enter in it, I recieve a message ("Nenhum comando" - no command).
Tried with twrp 2.6.x.x (yours) and 2.7. Same message (with the downloading android robot).
EDIT: done with this.

[Q] Best way to root No carrier Moto X running 4.4.3?

Hey just wondering what is the best way to root a No carrier Moto X running 4.4.3?
I am assuming it's the XT1053, so: unlock the bootloader on Moto's site, flash TWRP, and reboot. That should prompt you to install SU and you will be rooted. You can check the stickies in the general thread for more detail.

Quick doubt:
Unlock
Flash TWRP via app or ADB
Flash SuperSU via TWRP
Thats it?!
Are these the right steps?!

yes, except that.. using the bootloader unlock code and flashing TWRP or other recovery is done via Mfastboot, not ADB.
I've only used Rashr to flash recovery from the phone (no PC involved), but it needed me to be rooted first. So initial TWRP flash and root was done via mFastboot.

Exactly what KidJoe said. Check his guide linked in his signature, as it is extremely comprehensive. Read through it well. Specifically look at items #4 and #7 since they apply to what you are wanting to do.

twrp not support kitkat 4.4.4
Twrp is definitely supported. It's the only custom recovery I've used on the Moto X

This works just fine on 4.4.4 on my 1st gen moto x -> http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/234 I downloaded the 2.7.1.1 IMG from -> http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/ghost and flashed with mfastboot. That is what I'm still using, but others have successfully used the 2.8.x versions.
Just remember you have to reboot-bootloader and go into recovery IMMEDIATELY after flashing or it wont stick. example:
mfastboot flash recovery twrp.img
mfastboot reboot-bootloader
{use the phone's on screen instructions to select recovery}

Don't know. TWRP was the first custom recovery available for the X, so that is what I've used.
I haven't used CWM since my HTC Thunderbolt. (which is a while ago)

The "better" recovery is the one you prefer.

Theres a toolkit in the android development section that does pretty much everything for you. http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/development/tool-moto-x-toolkit-v1-4-0-t2477132

[Q] Rooting my Nexus 6 "from scratch." few questions...

Hey, I recently got a Nexus 6, and instead of installing CM as I usually do, I'm going to try rooting and using Xposed. The trick is that I use Linux exclusively, so I can't use the one-click installers. It's a Nexus, so unlocking is a piece of cake, and I know how to use adb and fastboot to install a custom recovery.
From there, I'm not totally sure what to do. I downloaded the SuperSU zip from chainfire, which I'll install from twrp... Then... Do I need to install busybox or something? I guess I'll have to side load xposed after that?
Also, not sure what the update path will be after that. I guess rooting will break OTA... So what do I do?
Sorry for being such a newb! Thanks!
to root..
fastboot oem unlock to unlock the bootloader
fastboot flash twrp recovery
flash the latest supersu zip within your new recovery
then just reboot, and you have root.
to update, you can flash any updated stock rooted rom, or you can update via fastboot.
@ninjaaron,
Go to the Xposed thread, there's a lot of info > http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/official-xposed-lollipop-t3030118

Thanks for the concise explanation! Can I install a rom from the vendor with fastboot, or will I have to use mod'ed Roms after rooting?

Depends what you mean by vendor. Only Google release official ROMs and yes they can be flashed via fast boot.
Yes, I was referring to Google when I said " the vendor"

Yep. Just needed to clarify because on other android devices, carriers can be vendors

VZW 5.1 Root

I have a VZW Dev Edition that I recently factory reset and now I can't get it to root. I have TWRP installed and tried flashing the latest SuperSU zip but the rooting did not happen. Any advice?

V2.46 of supersu is likely the latest one for 5.1. All the 2.5x versions are concentrating on newer idiosyncrasies of marshmallow. Should just be able to flash it if you've left your bootloader unlocked and it's a decent zip file. If I remember this.. Doesn't TWRP ask you if you want to root the first time you hit reboot from it? If you say yes, then I think it just installs something like /usr/bin/su (or /usr/xbin/su) and once that's there, you should be able to install supersu from the app store.
If that doesn't work you could just try booting into recovery and using the fact that you're rooted by default in recovery + you're able to stick a usb cable in and use adb to install, copy, mount -o remount,rw /system , and install pretty much anything. Good luck.
