[Q] Some simlinks failed, status 7? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear xda peeps,
Well, I downloaded CM 10.2 and then put it in my memory card. Then I rebooted into recovery and factory reseted, wiped partition cache and dalvic even. But when I try to flash CM 10.2, it says some simlinks failed, Status 7. And I thought that it was because of a recovery problem thats why I flashed the latest CWM recovery I could get for Nexus One (CWM 5.5) but still the same error. I even flashed TWRP 2.6.0.0 but still the same error.
And also I noticed that the files I push using adb command (adb push recovery.img /sdcard/recovery.img) is in my memory card O_O. I meant like isn't it suppose to be on the phone internal sdcard or something? And the other thing is that I can successfully fastboot all the files I push to sdcard, but I can't use fastboot if I take my memory card out. :S Isn't is suppose to use the internal sdcard?
Stuffs I have tried:
New recoveries,
Factory reset/partition/delvic,
Re downloaded CM 10.2,
unmount system and tried. Annnnddd nothing helped.
So, my real question is, how can I fix this simlink status 7 error? My phone can't boot anymore >.<.

Don't push recovery to SD, us fastboot to flash latest recovery
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
And make sure you bootloader is partitioned to be large enough, see the black rose thread for me info on how to if need be
Redownload ROM or at least check to make sure md5sum matches as to rule out a bad download

One cannot just flash on ICS/JB/KK Roms on the Nexus One.
You are expected to do your due diligence in this area and there are numerous topics abound discussing this exact same topic.
If you try to flash on a ROM which the Nexus One's tiny 512 MB partition doesn't support, then you will get some unpleasant results such as the one you face right now.
The answer in a word is BlackRose - To re-partition your system/cache/data so as to accomodate the JB ROMs.
Follow the steps listed here and do your research before flashing. It can save you a lot of time/stress:

[Q] Android not loading, rom zip disappeared.

Hey Guys.
I'm in a bit of ****.
I did my first rom flash yesterday, and all worked well. However the system would reboot once every 12 or so hours.
I noticed when I did CWM Recovery 5.5, that the total data wipe failed, but I researched that it was an issue, and had been fixed in CWM 6.0
The rom description said that if a total data wasn't done, you would have problems.
So I flashed 6.0, and did the CWM Recovery again with all the wiping options, but when I went to 'install zip from sd card', the file wasn't there. I assumed that the contents of the card wouldn't move, or be deleted, but it obviously was.
Now when I followed the original guide on XDA, I did the backup as stated, but it must not have worked, as in restore it's telling me there's no backup file found.
So at the moment, all i'm getting is the Samsung Galaxy S3 loading screen, but it's not going beyond that.
All I can access is CWM, and the Downloading screen.
What can I do to get my phone accessible again?
Thanks
plug your phone to PC (with downloaded ROM)
go to cwm -> mounts and storage -> mount usb storage. Now you should see Phone SD card on your PC. Put ROM in main folder uplug and flash.
if it doesn't help you should flash via odin (at download mode) 3 file ROM (f.e. JW1) with pit512 and re-partition checked, then flash kernel with cwm and start fun with cwm flashing.
Keep your ROMs and gapps and kernels etc on microSD next time
I do that so when I flash a new ROM I just wipe and format everything. I know its not necessary to format SD, I just do it anyway to clean up folders from old apps etc.

[Q] Files in recovery and files in ROM different ( Android Revolution HD 10.2 |)

Hi,
I realised that after flashing the rom, all my stuff are gone from the phone, however when I am in recovery the fiels are still there. When I plug my phone into the computer, I can see the files in the rom but not recovery.
How does this happen?
Thanks

Coming from HTC Desire these all are a lil confusing, but i read about userdata partition + virtual SD card on userdata partition.
I it possible to install the rom on userdata partition?
cut and paste all your files from data/media to data/media/0
and learn about 4.2.2 multi user support and also SEARCH NEXT TIME because this has been answered 4309758427525 times
because of your recovery.
chang your recovery in twrp.
Hopefully I can help, because I think I just went through the same thing. Had TWRP installed when I was on a 4.1 stock ROM, then upgraded to 4.2.2 ROM. Now the folders didn't match and I couldn't see my NANDROIDS.
Short answer, reinstall TWRP using the Toolkit once you've upgraded to 4.2.2 and you should reset your folder selections.
Do what llNexusll said. You should have saved your sdcard content to your computer, then formatted your sdcard in recovery after flashing 4.2.2, then transferred your sdcard content from computer to phone.

SD card and Permissions Error

Morning,
First of all:
s-off and bootloader unlocked
CWM touch 6.0.3.2 (latest)
InsertCoin 2.0.5 - first time installing custom ROM.
I have installed InsertCoin however whenever i click on the stock camera (or any camera downloaded) i get the following message: Unable to save to SD card due to insufficient file permissions. I have even tried to format and re-install the ROM however I still get the same issue. I have no idea how to fix it. If i download an image from google this works correctly and gets place in the download folder. I have tried clearing the data of the camera but this also did not work.
I moved all of my data from /data/media to the folder /data/media/0 as this is what a tutorial said regarding file paths if you move to the new 4.2.2. However for some reason now when i go into /data the folder is empty. All of my data is in the folder storage/emuated/0 (or /sdcard) I have taken 2 backups using CWM yet I have no idea where these are.
Also, when i was initially the recovery, when i first installed the recovery and entered it my computer stated 'usb device not recognised' and no adb commands would work, but as soon as i reboot manually to bootloader it was recognized. Is this normal?
Using the app 'disk usage' it states my storage card has a total size of 26206 MiB.
Clearly I have borked something up along the way.
If somebody could help that would be great, and this is rather annoying and starting to wreck my head haha.
Thanks,
Vizzy
Have you tried fix permissions in the advanced menu in CWM? Give that a go, if it doesn't work back everything up, wipe cache and SD card in CWM and re-install the rom via push or using a OTG
Okay I'll give it a go, when I'm hone tonight . Do I have to format the card into a specific format or is it just literally 'wipe SD card' like it is for cache etc.
Is the USB not recognised issue normal ? I don't fancy wiping everything then finding out I can't adb push.
Adb method: adb push ROM.zip /sdcard/ROM.zip
OTG doesn't work in the latest CWM, correct?

Yes, everything!
TWRP support OTG, and is better then CWM
It's clean and simple
From my point of view ..Any mistake occurred at migration with 4.1. on 4.2. symlinks for compatibility with the previous version 4.1 aren't created correctly. Be restored with nandroid backup and try to flash stock 4.2 ROM, and only then custom 4.2.2.
The only back up I have is when I booted into recovery and took a nandroid. The one I took after I installed recovery is lost.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 Beta
If I understand correct , you don't have 4.1 nandroid backup ,only 4.2 ?
If yes.. save you apps and data to PC and make factory reset with formating SD (under 4.2 ) and then restore your apps and data.
Nandroid backups in 4.2.2 can be found on phone (not SD card) under data/media btw

Downgrading from CWM v6.0.4.6?

1. Currently on verygreen's CM 11.0 EMMC with EMMC CWM v6.0.4.6, I think the recovery is bugged.
2. I have the bugged eMMC so the tablet is practically unusable without TRIM enabled, which this rom lacks.
3. I'm trying to flash back to CM 10.2 EMMC, but get this annoying error on every flash. Actually, I get this error with trying to FLASH anything, lower version of CWM, TWRP, any other ROM.
assert failed getprop("ro.product.device ") == "ovation" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "ovation"
4. I tried booting from SD using images such as "emmc-cwm-early3.1.img" (ie the one used to install CM 11.0 in the first place), "NookHDplus-bootable-SD-TWRP-2.6-for-emmc-4GB-rev0-(09.18.13).img" and "NookHDplus-bootable-CWM-6028-for-stock-4GB-rev4-(05.15.13).img".
The problem is that, for some reason, maybe the way it was meant to be, I keep on booting into my EMMC CWM v6.0.4.6 regardless of the boot image that I use. It seems that my EMMC recovery takes priority over whatever recovery I put on my SD.
I need a way of downgrading my recovery, which does not allow me to flash anything, or somehow bypass this asset failed error.
Thanks

That link you posted points to a thread for CM10.2, not CM11 which we are talking about in here
Anyways I solved the issue. Booted into recovery using a SD CWM v6.0.4.6 image and was able to flash to 10.2.
Seems that either the eMMC CWM v6.0.4.6 is either bad or I my recovery flash was somehow bad/correct.
My Nook HD+ feels like a potato without trim enabled. With TRIM, it is laggy but usable.
Glad you were able to flash CM10.2, but still: CM11 has TRIM.

Stable release of CM 10.2 and CM 11 nightlies have Trim enabled. Some of the 10.2 nightlies may after a certain date not sure if I remember that correctly or not but the stable does.

True that.
I got lost looking for Verygreen's assertion that TRIM had been patched/enabled. I'll swear I read that somewhere in this jungle.

Could you happen to point me in the direction of where you got the SD CWM 6.0.4.6 image?
I've only been able to find the EMMC versions, and that won't let me install things from SD card.

This should be the image I used. I can't be certain, but this should 99% be the image I used. (I can't remember exactly because I tried all kind of things, trying to flash recovery from within in ROM, completely nuking everything on the tablet. I believe when I manged to fix my HD+, there was nothing on the tablet. It only had a recovery. This recovery that I got into won't even read files on the SD card. I had to ADB push a ROM (and find a working ADB driver) directly to eMMC from within the recovery.)

Yes, I know that should be CWM 6.0.2.8, but some reason it boots up as SD CWM 6.0.4.6 for me. One thing that I did different was booting from the bootloader menu, from there select boot from SD, then it should say something along the lines of loading recovery from SD card.

Thanks.
Maybe I'm just so new to this that I'm doing something wrong, but I ended up getting CWM-based Recovery 6.0.2.8. I extracted the zip to the 3.67GB img file and used Win32DiskImager to write it to my SD card.
I was looking for the SD version of CWM Recovery v6.0.4.5b or higher so that I can try kitkat out, without installing CWM to the device (not sure if it can be easily removed in case I need to revert to stock), but I think I'll just have to take the plunge and install it.
I'm actually going to try out TWRP 2.6.3, since there's a SD bootable version of it available.
And that didn't work like I hoped either... Trying to find an updated version of CWM Recovery that will run, and install, from SD card, but that doesn't seem to exist. All the guides I've read require you to write an image to SD, copy some files to the device, then boot from the SD card and install from the device.
Anyway, thanks again.

[Q] I9001 error "E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk1p2"
Hi guys,
I've been using Cyanogenmod 10.2 for some time now, from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2436670
Now I want to upgrade to CM 11, but when I try to wipe data I get this error, and when I reboot it's like nothing happened, all apps and files are there, absolutely nothing's changed. I've tried all sort of things, nothing from the other threads helped. Tried formating the sd card, partition, mounting/unmounting and formating. I have an internal sd card. I don't really get around this too much, I only have the basic knowledge of android systems.Any help?
Hi,
I can't really tell what your problem is, but obviously your recovery tries to wipe the wrong partition when wiping data. mmcblk1p2 means, the second partition on the internal sdcard (not the internal memory!). Strangely your recovery uses the wrong partition number.
No matter, I first recommend to reflash recovery (important: recovery from ADC Team) and ROM (CM10.2).
It looks like you've installed a kernel for dualboot (two different ROMs on one device, where the second one is located on the sdcard). If you did, just reflash CM10.2. If not, just make sure you're using ADC recovery and no custom kernel.
I hope this will help,
Fabian
Thanks for your reply,
I do remember installing some kernel, I think it was the one offered on the thread of CM 10.2 I previously mentioned. And I'm using CWM recovery. Should I just flash that recovery again?
Yeah, it'd be the best just to reflash recovery. Please use one of those: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2463347
After that, just try again and tell your results
Thanks, will do soon
Success!
Will try CM 11 now, thanks a lot!
