[Q] Troubleshooting with my galaxy s3 mini - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello all,
I'm really new and novice to the Android hacking. in fact, this is the second time I tampers an android phone.
I have a Galaxy S3 Mini I just bought 2 weeks ago, from a guy who have used it for a while. the guy who sold it to me warned me that the wifi and camera does not work because of the root he had done. so i thought i will find the solution by reinstalling an official rom
Now I changed the firmware to an official firmware which was launched december from marocan operator, everything is ok, the Installation was succssessfull, but every time I get an error: kernel panic upload firmware.
My system information are:
GT 8190
android 4.1.2
base band/ I8190XXAMG4
KERNEL 3.0.31 -1332988
it wil really be nice if someone could find me a solution because i've searched all over internet but didn't found solution.
maybe a golden kernel may resolve the problem? but can't find any link.
thanks

All you need is, here & here. Have fun learning new stuff. BTW, welcome to s3 mini.

thanks for answering man. it's really amazing how internet is great,
i'm going to install the latest rom from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2546043 and hope it will work an resolve my kernel panic upload mode.
however do you think it may be a Hardware problem too? because i've checked the phone it seems that it have been open.

i've just finished the installation of the i8190XXXAMJ3 with the latest kernel. the phone seems to run smoother than before but after some tests, the message panic kernel upload mode still appears.
i ve also noticed that sometimes the screen lags, maybe the hardware hypothese is valid?
and the apn and wifi still don t work.
any idea ?

Hi there are loads of ways to flash (some good and not soo good) but is it just to root or install the custom rom's available.
With the wifi only there are less options and its more tricky, if you can tell us what for then can give the best directions.
Rgds
I am also interested in hints for flashing the Wifi only GT.
At the moment I am wondering how to enter secret codes without phone service / dialer keypad? Does have anybody experience with this?
Kind regards

Meant to get back in here and post, but the best way I have found is the SuperOneClick can get it here http://shortfuse.org/?p=13 and make sure before you connect that you have USB debugging selected, then once that's done just click root and few moments later happy days!

I also have this question, it seems pathetic to make secret ccodes for WIFI only GT since it does not have any dialer key pad

This may be a completely stupid idea, but I'm not at home to try it out so apologies in advance, but presumably you could download a dialer off the Market and that would do the job?

"After sometime the lag comes back..."
Sounds like its an app or combination of apps you download/install.

I`am not fond of updates and always try to flash the whole rom. Download the rom for your country/region from here http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3. Install Odin 1.85. Do a data wipe/factory reset in recovery mode and cache wipe. Go in downloadmode and connect to Odin and flash the unzipped rom you downloaded. Usually that is much better.
Good luck

I don't know guys why you are facing this problem, I have same ROM n i dont have any issue. It is not necessary but i always like to update my ROM with clean installation.
I mean before update i like to hard reset my device, another thing i never update my device with Kies/OTA. b'coz it erases Root.
So here is best way to get update.
First downgrade to older ROM
N7000XXKL3 ------ 2.3.6 2011 December-------- N7000ODDKL1
you will find it here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Read post #2 of above thread regarding Installation guide.
Now if you are interested then You can get Root + CWM (use my guide)
Now after root, you can have Data backup, you can use Titanium backup / Mybackup Pro
Hard reset device.
Now you can update latest ROM (use same tread as above for ROM)
with using CWM/Mobile Odin
You can restore your data, which you have backed up earlier
( You should not restore system part, as it may inject old junk)
Now you will have clean update ROM on your device.
Thanks a lot brother ketan ...
Well , going by the Good ole saying "First Impression is the best Impression"...
I felt the initial firmware is much better .. hence i used your Step by step Procedure to flash old firmware and here i am .. back to Level 1...
Now I feel my Phone is super Fast ... and I really have to think 100 times from now before i plan to do a Firmware update... I fine with the DEC 2011 Firmware Version.
Thanks to all the Folks who Participated in this thread...
Its worth a share of knowledge.
Have a Blast folks ......
Thanks a Ton again .
Sai
But experience of new rom also not less charming!
And now u have old rom handy, (n of course experience to downgrade) so after some time your finger gets itchy to feel new ROM
But really it's wonderful.

I am having the same problem right now, at first I thought that something might have gone wrong with my slimbean rom, so I flashed the latest 4.2.2 and still the same problem...no signal. I tried to use my sim card in a different device and still no signal but my brother's simcard worked on my SGS!! I'm not sure what's happening, maybe someone can explain how to fix this
Have you posted this on the Slim Thread where you got the Rom
As there may have been other users with same issue that has solved it!

Galaxy note JB update, clean install STILL SLOW

Hopefully this is where I should have posted it......
Hello,
Seen this being brought up a lot but i have the galaxy note which was on ICS standard before, I then did the update to JB through Kies or via the software update button and after a while realised it was slow and that everyone was having the same problem. I then found everyone said to do a clean install and a hard reset and just start fresh which I have done. After a couple of weeks now its is still running slow and laggy and just painfully annoying, can be there for a bout 5 seconds sometimes longer waiting for apps or things to open.
Any ideas on what I can do?
And like I said its all standard haven't put a custom rom or anything on there as I don't know how to do any of it but is it worth learning how to do it and doing it?
Thanks

want to try custom roms? Check allmost all of them here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28517899
also the steps are mentioned on 1st post of all the roms. Be on safe kernel before formatting or flashing.
Yup, your experience pretty much sums up the JB update for the note - c**p. However there are a few things you can do, first install a ROM with an XXLT4 base or higher, after that then uninstall as many apps as possible that you won't use and that you can live without. It will be a bit better but still, not as fast and smooth as ICS.
Revert back to ICS! Flash the ics stock via ODIN. Download from sammobile.com

I think I would like to yes but every time I have tried I cant do it and get confused lol.
As I said my phone is completely standard not been flashed or anything so would need a whole step by step guide to do it on and would then need the ROM or OS whatever its called to install. I have a galaxy ace to test it on. I think the thing that was scaring me was that my phone is still under warranty so wouldn't want to ruin that but then I might try it anyway??
Cheers

There is a detailed guide provided on how to root in the forum and it's very safe. I rooted the phone the next day i bought it! Don't worry u can try it, the methods prescribed here are very safe, just follow the instructions to the letter. And custom ROMs will give u a much different experience altogether!

Yes totally, if you have a look at the touchwiz based ROMs you have the inherent samsung features with new customisations. Some other custom ROMs like CM based give you a native Android experience. Try them out!

Im a bit consumed, so what is the very first thing I need to do is it flash my device or ROM it? If im right the ROM is the operating System isn't it?

Firstly root your phone. The guide for rooting is there in dr.Ketan's thread. I'd have posted the link but I'm currently on my mobile device and it's tedious. Just look in the Android development forum and the thread for how to root will be right there. Next after you root and flash a CWM recovery (you'll find the kernel with such a recovery by Phil and it'll be there in the same forum that teaches you to root). After this, you can flash a ROM (yes it's similar to operating system!). Try ROMs like the PAC which are feature packed and stable. Please follow all the instructions to the letter. And do not forget to hit the thanks button

ah lovely ok im going to look for this thread and see if I can find it. Like I said I have a galaxy ace I might try it on first to see if it goes well and then I can work on my note to see what happens. Once I finally manage to root my phone I will then try a ROM and see how I go, if I have any questions ill post them on here and see if you can help :fingers-crossed:
thanks, have hit that button too!

i8200N - problems flashing ROM

Hi guys, apologies if I'm a noob here, I'm having a few problems with my old SIII mini VE (i8200N). It was working fine, but in trying to flash a new ROM I've come a bit unstuck.
The phone has working recovery, which I was using to flash the ROM, it is TWRP v2.7.0.1, kinda old, but I can't find a better version unfortunately - if anyone has one I would appreciate it. Or indeed a different and better recovery, if you don't have TWRP.
Everytime I flash a ROM I get a message 'Kernel does not have support for reading SELInus contexts' - it says it is installing but ends super-quick, and nothing has changed. I have tried a few different ROMs always same kessage (and yes, I am aware of the difference between Golden and this version of the phone - the ROMs are compatible).
I can get the phone to respond to ADB and ODIN, so I'm generally OK, just have no OS at the moment. Tried sideloading it, but no joy.
I wouldn't mind having the original UK firmware back but sadly I can't get it back off the sammobile site - without some horrible file-share trying to install malware. Again, a copy would be great.
I can flash root, no problem, just not the actually ROM itself.
I wouldn't mind putting something decent on it, Lineage or RR or CM but I would settle right now just for a working phone!
I appreciate any help
:good:
