Google drive - Moto X Q&A

Okay.. I've tried to find the answer to no avail... I'm use to being able to have a micro SD card.. Obviously the moto x u can't.. Here's my problem.. I listen to music all the time...even to help me sleep.. I have to upload all my music to google drive..but it seems I can only play one song at a time.. I've even contacted moto and they said "yeah...Google music app can do that" but I can't get it to work... Does anyone else have ideas it doesn't have to be google music app..not a huge fan...but any ideas how to play more than one at a time?

Are you referring to Google Play Music?
Have you tried the shuffle all option on the Songs list? See screenshot.

Alternatively you can play a song, then find other albums, artists, or songs and add them to the queue.

music for google play music is not stored in drive. It's separate (and uses separate data allotment as well 30GB i believe)
What you need to do is download the google music manager to the computer where your music is stored. It will upload all of it in the background.
start here https://support.google.com/googleplay/topic/1229912?hl=en&ref_topic=2999684
There's no need to put your music in drive, except maybe to share it which might get you in trouble. I'm not sure how google handles the legality of all that.

Well actually I do need to put music on my Google drive... Simply due to the fact I have over 10gb of music and my phone only has 11gb after OS....sooo..yeah.

Google Play Music player won't stream it from Drive. I'm not sure of a player that will. If you upload your music to Google Play Music as the prior poster mentioned, it is free up to 20,000 songs (not sure what the "GB restriction" may be).
You can then use the Google Play Music app to stream it from the cloud - it doesn't need to be stored on the device (but you can cache songs/playlists if you want so you aren't streaming them).

click the link i posted and READ. (it's really not even hard, but you have to realize the two services are separate)
The music gets stored online. then you can stream it from anywhere. your phone. your computer. your tablet. your friend's computer, etc.
I've got about 25GB on google music. none of it is on my phone or my N7 or my computer at work. I stream for several hours a say with no problems.
I'm not sure how open drive is to developers so I'm not sure even a 3rd party player would support streaming from drive.
If you wanted to go really crazy you could buy a cloud enabled network hard drive. You can get a 2TB drive for about $150 and hook it up to your home router and you can stream HD movies to your phone if your connection on both ends is fast enough.

No offense but we are trying to help. You can't "stream music" from Google Drive. If you want options of playing more than one song, you need to use Google Play Music.

Drive isn't 'designed' to be used in this fashion. It can play audio files, but it isn't meant to be used as a primary music player. You would be better off using other means to effectively play music. Play Music is your best bet, but if you think that's not going to work then I'd look around for alternatives. Play Music might benefit you, though, as you can cache music offline so you don't have to be connected to listen. Some good playback options are present, too.

Oh man, wouldn't it be nice if there was a service that let you store your music on the cloud, much like Google Drive, but that you could also stream from... Unlike Google Drive?
Well the good news is that I know of just such a service! It let's you store tens of thousands of songs online, for free. And, you can listen to them from any internet connected device.
Sound good?
It's called "Google Play Music" and it's what the other folks on this thread have been trying to tell you about.
Oh, and regarding you getting called out for not reading: if you don't have time read a link, then you don't have time to be replying to the person who posted it.

I'm not trying to stream from it.. I'm trying to connect to it and have access to it. I don't care if I have to use Google play music..its not my first choice...but if it gets the job done..just trying to figure out how to many play a playlist or something like that.

After connecting to and having access to it, do you want to play the music? Because that's called streaming.
Playing music, that isn't on your device, over a network = streaming.
If that's not what you're trying to do, than I'm not sure what your goal is. Care to elaborate?

Hmmmm am I finally an XDA veteran now since someone called me a **** because I asked them to read something.
There was no offense intended. I was just trying to help. I only mentioned network HDDs to make the point that there's little need to store media on your phone (unless you can't get a signal of course)
XDA is generally not very forgiving if you don't take the time to READ. Even less forgiving if you are provided an answer and reply without reading it. Go through just about any question forum on here and half answers to half the topics are "do a search" or "read." If you are sensitive about it XDA may not be the place for you. We all watched the video when we signed up. We are all just NOOBs right?
Anyway I hope you've got it figured out.

To be fair, I didn't call u a ****, just said a **** move.. However, that's not the point, The artical you sent me actually never said to do this, and it'll do this... I just happen to remember someone else I know (not on XDA) that said that you have to download the Music Manager to use in Google Play Music. I did end up takeing the time to fully read it when I got home, it talked about how to use it. But as far as i recall, it never said anything about how to play music from the drive... also, I guess it never uploaded it to the drive?! Sooooooo I don't know where it uploaded to, but it lets me play from the store.. so it's VERY nice.. and your right, alot of people don't take the time to read the forums, I was actually LITERALLY just talking about that on another topic... But when I responded I was responding to the rest of what you had mentioned... Long story short, it all works just fine..

Did you get it working?
Do you understand how google play music works yet? cause you still sound confused..
Google music has nothing to do with google drive, or how much free cloud storage you have. Its a separate service where you use google music manager to upload up to 25,000 songs for free, to a separate area, and then you can use the google music app or website to stream that music on any device with an internet connection.
Hope you got everything working!

Google music is the best way to do this IMO. Paired with an all access subscription, it's the best way to combine your music that you own with a huge streaming library.
However, there is an app that will play music stored on Google Drive or Dropbox. It's called Beat, and available in the play store.

I do agree with what everyone is saying on this. Artist should be paid for there work... that's why they do it, to get paid. BUT if you really want free songs straight to your G1 go into the market and search for a App called Music Online Lite. You can search for songs and lisen to them or download them straight to your phone. Hope this helps.

offline sync is nowhere near as fast as the video demo for the iphone appears to be.
but then again, to sync 150 songs, you are effectively downloading them all, so can't really complain its not instant!
Also i'm in the UK on a t-mo G2...

Spotify DOWN YO!
Can someone explain how its justified to charge £10 a month for this service? Is it really that good?
Allows you to sync your music to listen to it offline.
Yes, IMHO, that's worth a tenner a month.

Dave
Is there any kind of trial available?
I'd like to see the full functionality before paying for a subscription.
Well, you can try the Spotify service directly on a Windows PC, but you won't be able to test out the Android client without a premium subscription.

I've being using it on my pc since the trial, but I wanted to see if reception was good enough for me to use this on my commute. I'm not quite sure what the offline listening people have mentioned is. Hence a few days trial would be enough for me to decide one way or another.
Offline listening means you can sync your playlists to your device, so you can listen to them without having to stream them from the net.
Your best bet is to buy a subscription, and cancel it if you are unhappy with the service.

Sorry to sound a bit cynical but whats up wi just plugging ya phone to pc and copy and paste
Copy and paste what? The desktop version of Spotify doesn't allow for offline play, so you've nothing downloaded to the PC.

It won't be long. Soon if the government needs to know anything they just will go to Google. They have your habits, movements, everything. And all of the stuff coming from Google in the future. They will control of your car. They will be able to see what you are seeing in real time with the advent of Google Glass announced last week.
I did not know that Google was started with cia money. I will have to look into it. But it would not surprise me. I have always thought Google would end up being a secret arm of the .govs that will bypass the need all of that due process nonsense.
I know it is futile to make sure that i never log in my search page on any device i use. I have to"trust"that they are being honest. Well last week i was looking for a new store in my area while driving around so i searched for it on my Droid. Found the store. A couple of days later i went to do a search on my kindle fire. I pull up Google and there is my search that i made a few days before on my phone. I know about syncing, but i never log in so they shouldn't have sync'd. Both devices were logged in.
And when i pull up Google on my kf, i have always told Google not to get my location. Every time i pull up Google it shows my location. Then the location quickly disappears and "unavailable" pops up.

One thing.. If Terminator comes from the future, and is built in the future, when he gets killed in the past, why doesn't he come back the second after he gets "killed", and stabs the people in the face?
He can't die since he's being built in the future, so if he dies in the past he will still be built (in the future) and come back as planned. So the moment before he dies, he can make a note about not getting into that trap the next time, and succeed. He'll be back indeed!

They actually explained that in The Sarah Connor Chronicles. In the future, John Connor and a bunch of others raided a Skynet factory with the intent of blowing it up, only to find them sending the first terminator back in time. They obviously blew the place up and destroyed the time machine to Skynet had to start all over again.

But feel free to browse around and hopefully you'll find something you like. We try to update it daily if we can.
Oh, and I forgot. Try finding my YT page. I have a playlist for the songs I listen the most. There are lots of missing ones, but I got tired of adding more. Maybe next weekend I'll add more.
I think my page is: http://youtube.com/felimenta97
The playlist is called: Músicas. Just put it on random and forget everything Hope you enjoy

Any songs would be helpful!

The 'How to teach Google Now' Thread

Okay guys, finally got my N7 yesterday now and am eagerly awaiting google now to start learning my traits.
Feel free to share how google now has picked up your traits - be specific.
Mine thinks work is somewhere at the sea

First tip is to set your home/work locations using Latitude.
Next you can ask about when your favourite team/s are playing next, or what the score for their match was etc, that will hopefully teach it the team/s that you support.
Set up calendar items/appointments and it will notify you about them.
If you use Chrome on your desktop and stay logged in to Google, Now will learn from whatever you search. I searched for an address on my laptop the other day and within seconds got an alert on the phone telling me long it would take to get there.

The only thing is I'm Australian, and at the moment Australian sports aren't covered. Do you think this will be added in future?
On my laptop I was looking up "cocaine bricks" and then found directions to "the brick"', a furniture store, in my notifications

That's interesting, I have tried searching things like pizza places etc on my desktop and it hasn't come through on my nexus 7.
Could this be because I'm Australian and it isn't supported?
(Yes My accounts are synced)

I'm in Brisbane Are you logged into Chrome with the same account?
Actually I've just tried searching for my nearest Dominos, looked up the location on Maps, then opened Now and it is proving me wrong. Odd.
Does anyone know if you can teach it to take a particular route to work?
It shows me the traffic on a route I don't use because it would cost me about $15 in tolls to save me about 5 minutes of time.
I have tried to go to navigate, then select my preferred route, but Google Now still uses the other one by default.

Having issues getting it to pick up NRL/AFL as well, but it has a few of my European football teams in there.

It might work of you check to avoid tolls in the maps app

If you want to see something hillarious with Google Now, do the following:
1) Turn ON Safe Search/Profanity Blocker in Google Now settings.
2) Say "****"
It doesn't seem to like when I ask for football teams in Europe.
It also learns from Google maps.. it will display your most visited places from time to time and tell you the traffic etc

Can it avoid internet trolls too? That would be an awesome feature.
By the way no I'm not calling you a troll.

The first time it showed me the time to work, it was using toll roads. When I headed to work going the other way, I kept Now open and refreshed it a couple of times during the journey. Now it always shows me that route.
What I think would be good is if you could program a primary and secondary route. Tonight, for example, it was telling me 53 mins to get home because I drive past a football stadium where Monday night footy is on tonight. It would be nice if it said "this way is busy, take the other way instead".

Apparently this is because the season isn't on there. This has some truth in it because I searched for Arizona Cardinals and got nothing in Now but then I searched for Red Sox and now apparently they are my team Though I've tried it with Aussie teams and it doesn't work either, even though we are approaching the pointy end of the season. My guess is that it only understands US sports at the moment. Hopefully that will change soon.
You need to ensure that web history is turned on in your google account (not on by default) for searches to show on your phone.
Follow the android forums link a few posts up for a guide.
