I have been trying to research a way to stop my Nexus 7 wifi grouper from constantly nagging me to upgrade to JellyBean 4.3. I find 4.3 rather underwhelming and the problems it has caused with flash crashing Dolphin or Xscope browsers almost constantly has left me no choice but to roll back to 4.2.2.
Now that I am content to stay with 4.2.2 I wanted to stop the constant upgrade notification and the process to do so isnt clearly laid out anywhere across many fragmented threads about it.
Here is how I disabled the upgrade prompt on the Nexus 7 grouper wifi 4.2.2 - You of course need to be rooted.
Get Autorun Manager from the market - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rs.autorun&hl=en or http://goo.gl/xdLmO
Launch Autorun Manager, select Advanced mode.
Click the wrench, check off Show system entries and Enable system app disable.
Click the refresh icon to reload the process list.
Search for "systemupdate" and open the Google Services Framework entry.
Uncheck com.google.android.gsf.update.SystemUpdateService$Receiver
Reboot your tablet and be nag free.
I am not certain at this point if this disables market app update notifications but I would rather manually check for app updates than be constantly nagged to upgrade android.
Edit - Market update notifications for apps is functioning normally.
Enjoy.
Worked like a champ....thx
With the imminent release of 4.4 for the Nexus I wanted to remind people of this procedure for the purpose of disabling the upgrade prompt or restoring it if you followed the above procedure in the past.

i read this might cause partial wakelocks.. is this true? I absolutely hate 4.4.. the ugly white color, single screen settings, unstable apps, etc etc
It's absolutely ridiculous how google is shoving its stupid updates down our throats.
+ i deleted the downloaded zip update.. but when i go to about tablet > system updates > it still reads that download is ready.. what does that mean? anyway to reset and clean that crap?
No problem with wake locks.
I actually didn't need to freeze the update file.. The reason I was receiving an OTA notification after sideloading 4.4 was that the update that was trying to push was the smaller update (KRT16S) that followed KitKat (KRT16O).. which I was unaware of at the time. I wish they would put the build # on the update screen.. instead it just read 'you have an update to KitKat'. I assumed it was the same ota update that I already sideloaded.. not something that was new.
Also not sure if there's a way to get rid of that info for a new update in the settings. You can remove the notification reminder.. but under system updates, it will always read that an update is waiting. Best advice.. Don't look at that screen lol.
Best way to fix the OTA nag.
Use the OTA...
I was just receiving the OTA nag as well . Went into TB and froze the Google Services Framework and the icon is gone.

Yeah... that will get the job done... but it will 'break' a lot of other stuff as well. Google Services Framework does much more than just handle OTA's... so, not a good idea.

1. What other notifications might that also disable?
2. What is the file name of the 4.4 ota update and where can I find it so I can rename or delete it?
Thanks
After a reboot I got notification to update apps so It doesn't break playstore updates. Gmail, I can hear the sound when an email arrives but no notification. It will do for me, tho not sure if it's for everyone.

What about the one called
com.google.android.gsf.update.SystemUpdateService$SecretCodeReceiver ?
Does that need to be disabled too, or does it do something unrelated?
Why not just make a copy of system/build.prop, and change the version to one that was never released, like 4.1.3?
Thanks OP.....this worked for me. I'm sticking to 4.2.2 stock and rooted now. And no more nag.

Work finally.
T'ks.

Any info on this?
Hi all, since two days i have a big problem with my notifications. When i get a WhatsApp my Phone rings/vibrates. LED indicator ist also working. When i unlock my phone then i can see the notification for the new message. But only for about an half second. Then the notification disappears.
BUT: When i close the WhatsApp App by pressing the back-button until the App closes it works propely and notification is in the notificationbar till i open the app and read the message. It´s only when i leave the app with the home button.
Same problem with e.g. Google Hangouts and K9.
What i tried:
- Reboot phone
- Reinstalling the apps (Whatsapp)
- Viped cache (TWRP)
My phone is a HTC One (originally TMO) running KitKat (4.4), rooted, S-Off, CID changed (for installing GPE 4.4)
Anyone an idea?
Solved by installing update 4.4.2 via TWMP.

Hi,
I have a brandnew gear and S4on 4.3, both on stock and will all updates performed.
-weather widget on touchwiz homescreen, set on hourly update
-wifi and bluetooth tether on
-lockscreen set to automatic
I read all the posts about this problem and performed al possible solutions like restarting, force close all weather apps, providers and widgets etc etc but it will still only update when I turn the phone on.
Any thoughts?
Try going to gear manager, open my apps, then select apps, click settings on weather, and set auto refresh for 1 hour

Under the phones location services, are you using wifi, gps, both, or is it off?
Do you have any google services frozen, or hibernated at all?

Also did gear, weather provider, weather provider, weather widget and touchwiz reset,
And still the widget is not updating on the phone or watch automaticly.
I couldnt care less about the weather function but I hate it when I cant get something to work.

You do have the stock weather widget on one of the home screens of the phone right? I know with my Note 2 it will not update the widget on the Gear unless I also have the stock weather widget on the phone (I just put it on a screen I dont use)
Ok, nothing worked to get the weather updating on the gear. I tried all possible solutions, even reset phone and gear.
Yesterday i installed the ripped from S5 gear manager(see other topic)....and the weather is now updating like a charm.
And the funny thing is..it works with touchwiz and even with apex launcher...
Edit: sadly it already stopped updating the next morning.
I think I'm having the same problem. I updated my rom on March 9th, and I was initially happy because on my previous rom, I didn't have weather at all. I noticed after three days that the weather wasn't updating at all. It constantly said 27°C and sunny.
I know it is still receiving some information from the phone because when i changed the widget on the phone to display in farenhieght, the unit updated on the watch. Unfortunately, the weather information hasn't updated since March 9th. This is especially odd considering I updated to Null 23 this morning. It must have gotten the weather information from the phone after the new install from a complete wipe, but it only got old information.
The weather is updating just fine on my note 2. Anyone have any ideas?
Edit: I just tried the weather command on S-Voice, and it showed an updated weather list, but when I use the weather widget on the watch, it still shows the weather that hasn't been updated since March 9th.
I had same problem too. I tried almost everything, but no go. Weather does not update. So i think to try kind of extreme. I earlier used on my note 2 this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2584533 and there is flashable file called One Stop Shop V5. I don't use that rom any more but i think thats worth to try. I flashed that file, and surprise. Now the weather updates as it should. So this worked on my international Note 2 and it might not work on other models.
Since sense 5.5 update there is an app called HTC Apps on my screen and it just doesnt does anything, it never received contentor such. Is it working on anybody ? Maybe regional restrictions ?
Hi!
I have been facing a new problem since this morning on my HTC One M7 running ARHD. When I am attempting to make a regular phone call I am not getting any dialer tone, the receiver answers my call but there is no sound being sent from my phone to him nor I can get any sound from the person I am calling. I tried making varioud VOIP calls thorugh Viber, Google hangouts etc. they seem to be working perfectly. What could be the problem!?
PS: This is urgent, as I need to get my one and only phone working to make phone calls!

Excellent advice srideep!
Yesterday I started experiencing the exact same problem as yashodhan92: No audio in either direction of the call. In the past a simple reboot has solved the problem but this time it didn't work. And just like the OP, VoIP services worked normally. I was hesitant to perform a Clear all data but felt I had nothing to lose after a day and a half without the ability to make or receive calls with the native phone app. I performed the clear data and rebooted. Phone is back! Thanks a ton!
FYI, I have an HTC One M7 running MaxHD 42.0.0 (Android 4.4.3/Sense 6.0)
Problem solved !
Had the same problem , and the solution provided works like charm . Wondering what would be the cause .

Anybody got any more to offer on this??
The above fix gives me one or two calls then the problem is back. Htc support say to clear the data within the phone app. Also gives one or two calls relief then fail again.
Likewise factory reset, reported on telstra crowdsupport that this is only a temporary fix.
Htc support say they have had many hundreds of calls since Saturday, all htc one M7, all android 4.4.3, all Telstra AU customers.
Can anybody help?

To clear the data for the phone app (or any other except Google Play Services)...
Tap Settings
Tap Apps
Scroll right to the All tab
Scroll down until you find the app you want, or tap the magnifying glass and enter the name (e.g. "Phone")
Tap on the App name
Tap Clear Data
Done.
For Google Play Services, after tapping on the App name, tap the Manage Space button, then Clear All Data button.
Folks have recommended clearing data for Phone, Google Play Services, Google Play Store, Google Services Framework. These are all harmless (you might be re-asked for some permissions). But my testing shows that it is a temporary fix, likely because the Google apps reload the offending bug. I suspect we'll have to wait for a fix from HTC or Google.
Clearing Cache or data is often a good way to sort Android app problems, but bear in mind that any local data relating to the app will be lost, such as accounts/logons, media, high scores etc. so progress with caution and use your backups first.
Tactical fix:
Disable Google Services Framework.
Reboot
This will cause issues with Google Play Services (and possibly other applications), however it at least allows the phone to make/take calls.

Hello! Thanks for the reply.
I erased all sorts of data from Google Play Services but that did not work, and I was still unable to make any calls. Then i checked the recently updated apps and noticed that HTC Lock Screen had been updated. I removed the update and Voila! It worked! Still wondering what could have gone wrong because of a Lock Screen update!
I've tried everything in this thread. Nothing works.

Have you tried uninstalling the HTC Lock Screen updates then after doing that for good measure erase all data from Google Services as mentioned above and re-boot.

Yep, just tried that and its working now. Cheers.

Yashodhan, You might just be the genius of the week. :highfive:
I have uninstalled the HTC Lockscreen updates, and call sounds are back.
I did not have to clear any data from Google Services or take any other action to achieve it.
I then connected to the Play Store, and triggered My App updates, which previously was enough to re-break the call sound. So far, no problem. Call sound is still working.
We may have a winner (at least until the next HTC Firmware update, which might put the Lock Screen update back in, so remember this fix).
For less experience folks: detailed instructions are:
Tap Settings icon
Scroll down, Tap Apps
Scroll right to the All tab
Tap the magnifying glass button
Type "Lock" [no quotes]
Tap HTC Lock Screen
Tap Uninstall Updates
Agree to the reboot.
Done.
I will report back if the fix fails.
Where do you have uninstall?
when I go to HTC Lock screen i see:
Force stop, disable, clear data, clear cache, clear defaults
thanks
Hey all
I've been having the same issue on and off for a few weeks now.
I used to be able to fix it by just restarting, but as of today that wasn't working.
Clearing the data of Google Play Services and Google Services Framework have resolved it for me for now - but I suspect it will reoccur.
Like the post above, I don't have the option to uninstall HTC Lock Screen updates...
For reference, I'm running Viper One 7.0.1, and have tried 3 different Kernels (Elemental, Kangaroo and Stock).
Thanks
Paul
I will try to install Viper without sense...but hate that I will be not able to use Blink Feed
Seems I didn't have the HTC Lockscreen update installed - which is why I didn't have the uninstall option.
I've installed, the update, had the issue, uninstalled the update, and still have the issue.
The only way I'm getting the calls to work is by clearing the data from Google Play Services and Google Services Framework - even then, I'm only able to make 1 call (testing out by calling Voicemail), and then it will stop working again.
I've also installed an app freezer, and frozen the HTC Lockscreen - but this hasn't worked either.
