I recently rooted my 1st Gen KFHD7 and it seems that the battery is discharging at a faster rate than prior to rooting. I don't have any hard data to back this up as I never bothered tracking this in the past - more of a perception. It is quite likely that I am using the KF more and in different ways than prior and this is the reason I'm recharging more often but it never hurts to ask.

My battery is acting up on me I charge my phone to 100 percent turn it off then I will go to bed and wake up turn my phone on and it says its only 50 percent charged so I have to charge it again. I calibrated with an app of the market followed instuctions to the t months ago thought the battery needed time to gets its memory again but its been long enough.
First, how old is this battery? If you've had the OG Droid for a while or bought a used Droid, try grabbing a new battery on the cheap - try Amazon.com. A new $5 battery was far better than my 1-year old piece of junk battery.
Next, are you running a stock image or did you root your phone? Rooting and installing a custom rom - I highly recommend Steel Droid - really helped my battery life, but that's only if you want to take the risks involved. You can also reset the battery log if you root your phone and install Rom Manager.
Its probably an app like droid tv keeping your phone awake. I had droid tv on my phone and it would drain a fully charged battery overnight

Thanks for the input. My phone is rooted and Im running the chevy rom simply stunning 5.2 and loving it. I did some research on this board and found out a good way of calibrating my phone instead of the app I got off the market. So far its working great. But I do need to get on amazon and buy a new battery.
Hello all. I've been having this problem for a while and I can't quite seem to solve it.
I'm using an MPJ 7000mAh extended battery, Slim Bean 4.2.2 build 7, NX kernel, overclocked to 1600mhz, and the Hyper CPU governor. I also set the voltage for 1.6ghz to 1300mV, which appears to be the same as 1.4ghz's stock voltage.

This issue is really bugging me and I hope someone can help me out.
Thanks
This is exactly what my phone has been doing for months and I can't figure out for the life of me what it is. I have used several apps to monitor CPU, battery, and application usage, but I can't pinpoint what is causing it. I just turn off Wifi and data and it stops most of the battery usage. I was just coming to ask the same question, but I saw this post instead. I would love to figure this out, as it as happened on my current and last ROM.

It doesn't seem to be dependant on WiFi or data for me. I keep both of them off when I'm at home and the same thing still happens.
Hopefully we can both fix this stupid problem.
I was having a look at a review for the new Nexus 7, and the battery information on it looked very similar to that of mine.

I switched back to Slim Bean's stock kernel. Looking much better. http://imgur.com/oTKW6TP.jpg

The Android OS looks a lot better than what mine looks like. Maybe I'll have to try that kernel also. What were you on before? I'm on a CM kernel that came with my rom.
How old is your Note? I acquired mine just a couple months after they very first came out. Over the past few months while on my current ROM, I have had lots of random freezing and shut downs. I figured it was the ROM and just kept on restarting. (I'm lazy and didn't want to flash something else). Froze today again, like usual, so I pulled the cover off, and yanked the battery. However, while the battery was out, I noticed that it has started to swell. I don't know if this is recent or I just haven't noticed it. Perhaps my battery is the cause of all my problems. I wouldn't doubt it, as the battery that went out in my Galaxy S 4g pretty much rendered the phone useless as it kept on swelling.
Now I don't know if the battery swelling could also be related to the high "Android OS' usage, but I thought I would let you know. That's two Samsung batteries that I have had go bad on me in my two most recent devices. I'll be ordering another OEM battery here shortly to see how it affects the problems I have had. I'm actually surprised that I didn't notice it yet. My stats right now have the battery at 14%, with 12+ hours on the battery, and only 36 minutes of screen-on time. Pretty screwed up stats, I'd say. Of course, Android OS is top of the list for using 64% of it so far.
Summary: Check battery. Maybe our problem has an easy solution.

If the battery is swollen it means it's faulty and if you leave it too long is likely to explode.

I know. I have already ordered a replacement.
Hello People, here's the deal. I've just bought a note 1 n7000 used. The guy who sold me it said he was using another rom and that he had returned it to stock rom.
I'm having serious battery issues, my battery is lasting around 2 hours with light use. At the same time that the performance of the cell phone is not that good.
When I bought it it came with a strange setting for the letters on screen. everything looked like comic sams, I ran quadrant benchmark and it scored 4400 so I factory reset it trhough the settings menu. Then I felt like it wasn't the same perfomance and ran quadrant I got 3900 I installed all my apps and stuff felt it wasn't running nicely and reset again, now through recovery mode and did cache wipe. ran quadrant again and the score was 3600.
Then i looked forward to install a safe and root kernel from the beginners guide here in xda... it's now rooted, but then I realised that the kernel I'm using is from mexico (N7000UBLS4 - TCE) and my cell phone is actually from Brazil (I'm from Brazil). Inside the battery case it says SSN: -n7000GSMH (which is not an option in philz kernel list)
Well now I'm in doubt if these performance and battery life issues are relative to this and what should I do to have it completely stock with, let's say a brazilian stock. Or if I can just flash another rom.
Just one more thing: My n7000 was saying that my battery was at 70% I took it out and tested with a multimeter and it checked 3,94v. I found it really strange since the battery was supposed to be 3,7v and it was at its 70% ??
Is this the case to a battery stats wipe?
Thank you a lot
------
Edit
I have installed sweet v10.5 black and the performance seems a little worse... the battery too, now if I'm hooked to the notebook and using it, it goes all the way down to 0%.... the only possible way to charge it is with the phone off.
I'm seriously thinking about returning the phone... Although I really enjoy the idea of having the note... the big screen is awesome. But with a low performance and 2 hour battery... come on.
The batteries on these things only last 6mo-1yr really
I'm on my 3rd battery after less than 2 years.
You should get one day with moderate use on JB..2 days on ICS and 4+ on GB
That's with just moderate use...
2 anker batteries on amazon.com is $20US

Today my Moto e5 plus has arrived. I purchased this device mainly for its big battery. I am very basic user, rarely do I play game (or have them installed on my device). Maybe the most usage intensive tasks for my phones are occasional chatting when travelling.
Now I do own another phone. My previous device still works just fine (Moto X play), I was thinking of keeping this e5 around as backup (inactive in its box).
I have a question about how to maintain battery health over long periods of time on standby. Phone turned off.
Is there a decay rate? Do all things break up over time? (am I being foolish?)
I am a newbie at the physics/reality of batteries. Is a "backup" phone even a tactic worth pursuing? Or just buy another phone when your current one starts to give signs its end is near?
Thanks for your time reading this.
The general rule for a lithium battery is to charge the battery half way if you're going to store it for a while.
It will lose a bit of charge over time even being off. But it is very slow.
So I'd check the charge level on it every 6 months and try and keep it at about half.
Whether to have a backup phone is really up to you.
Phones are very readily available here in the states, so having one sit in a box doesn't make much sense for me.
But I don't know the situation for you in Italy.

Thanks for you reply Will. Good tips I could follow.
Do you know how lithium batteries fair off over long periods of inactivity? If they lose capacity as they age?
Based on this, it looks like they lose 2-4% in the first year.
I've had the Boost Moto E5 Plus with a 5000 mAh battery since August. I never took much note other than my average end-of-the-day battery being anywhere between 60-70% with mostly checking and sending email, occasional web browsing, light gaming, Waze showing maps and YouTube vanced playing through bluetooth while driving. It's a great phone! I have the bootloader unlocked, rooted with Magisk, installed Xposed, and Gravitybox and I removed apps I didn't need.
Hello fellow members, I hope that everyone is doing well and that we're all safe. I'd like to write about a problem I had between flashing stock & custom roms (thank you to all the developers for their hard work & patience). Flashing custom & stock roms I noticed that the battery would not display correctly it's percentage (about 15% less) on standby or when charging. This would affect signal coverage, and I would have to frequently close my phone and put my battery back in for a quick fix. Another important problem was that the phone would start shutting down before discharging correctly, till the point that my phone powered down my at around 57%. After trying all the solutions suggested here by other members (wake lock, wiping battery stats, etc), I was starting to consider that maybe it was time to upgrade. Try as i might, & taking into consideration what I actually do with my phone (ebook reader, music and video player, tv remote, game emulator console, the list goes on), there isn't any phone on the market that I consider could adequately replace my Note 4. So as a last resort I discharged my battery completely while in Twrp recovery and swapped it out with another Note 4 I have to charge. To my surprise the battery started discharging in a nearly perfect manner and seems to be holding up pretty well now after a few charges (considering it's a second hand phone and that the battery is not original). So I hope that this can help anyone out there having battery issues and is willing to give this a try. Cheers
The power management is sort of witchy even on the newer Samsung's.
Fine when it's working right and downright inscrutable when it's not.
Hi Blackhawk, thank you for the read & like. I really have to thank the Xda forum & fellow members if I tried this solution in the first place. I absolutely loathed the idea of having to change my Note 4 due to random battery shutdowns. New phones out on the market have (in my opinion) really bad flaws such as screen bleed, faulty screens & digitizers, ecc, & my Note 4 has been durable with a 6 euro case & 5 euro screen protector. The hardware might be a bit limiting for today's standards ( technology devolops in leaps & bounds & sells even faster), but the everyday user wouldn't even notice or care if it wasn't for clever marketing & the notion that after a few years we have to buy something "new". Anyway, all the solutions I read on the forum really helped me out to reflect on how to solve my problem in the first place, so I hope what I found out can help someone else out. Good day to everyone
My 10+ was ok until I did a full charge on a slower charger overnight. I normally never do that and usually do only midrange partial charges.
It auto shutdown then when it got down to 15% when I was trying for a battery recalibration.
Normally I never go below 30%
Then fast charging started screwing up too.
Tried almost -everything- to no avail.
Perhaps a charger or cable failure was coincidental; don't know still waiting for the new brick/cable.
If it still continues after the new charger I'm looking at either a battery failure, port failure or a hardware power management failure most likely.
I hope it's the charger/cable*, lol
No doubt the battery issues are quit the pain.
*the milliamp draw drops a lot when it falls out of fast charging mode so the battery probably isn't the culprit. The temperature sensors seem to be fully functional. Will try yet another recal after the new charger arrives. Grrrr... what a time whore it is.
Update: it was a battery failure at less then 1.5 years. Because it's always in a case I didn't notice the rear cover was bulging, a lot.
I was very fortunate it didn't damage the display.
All those symptoms I described are a battery failure in progress.
A Li is considered degraded when it reaches 80% of its original capacity, the end of its useful service life. Degraded Li's are more likely to fail.
Any swelling is a failure
Today that same N10+ is in my hand still running like new although it's once again nearing battery replacement time.
Expect a 1-2 year battery lifespan on a heavily used device. Battery replacement is just part of normal maintenance.
