I had the Asus TF201 and TF700, then gave the TF201 to my sister. I considered getting the TF701, but the lack of development has me reconsidering now.
Also, though I've never cared for any Samsung tablets, their newly announced Note Pro has me thinking of getting it once it's released. Since getting the N7 FHD just before launch, I've barely used my TF700 anyway. There isn't TOO much difference in display size, and the N7 FHD is much easier/comfortable to hold when lying in bed and reading or gaming so I grab it 99% of the time. I think having the 12.2" display on the Note Pro will be better than a 10.1" for reading and gaming too. I had the Note 2, then got the Note 3 on launch day. I like that the Note Pro looks a lot like the Note 3 as well. My only complaint is that the Wi-Fi only version of the Note Pro has the Exynos Octa-Core. The LTE version has the 800, but I have no use for an LTE capable tablet. I wish the Wi-Fi only version had the Snapdragon 800, or even the Tegra 4.
So, that brings me back to considering the TF701. Do you guys think development will pick up soon? I know it will eventually pick up at least a little, but don't wanna wait for the device to be close to a year old before there is a large rom selection.
What are the thoughts of you current TF701 owners? Are you still happy with your purchase? Does the lack of development bother you, or do you normally even flash roms to begin with?

Well it will but only when Asus will and can fix the build quality problems very very soon!
When not then this combo will be a big fail for them.
Still everybody here is very curious if builds from November and later are OK.

Well it won't be cm11 based but it will be a version of CROMi-X for the TF701T from 4.3 sources.
I love the tablet, and the third dock is great. Amazon finally got the updated docks, and while the build quality doesn't feel as nice as the tf201, I can get Wi-Fi at twice the distance and I don't have the crippling lag. I an a crack flasher and the lack if Roms has bothered me, but honestly the stock rooted ROM is pretty close to perfect for me. I just miss my nightlies.
Who was the supplier you ordered the dock from on Amazon? NewEgg?
To cheer us all up I just unpacked the latest Asus update, repacked the kernel so it allows rooting and adb commands, inserted busy box, removed the Asus dial home apps and rooted it
Flashed it and it works fine
Will release it tomorrow now

You should definitely check out sdbags' rom! He does great work, and his roms don't remove features like CM roms do! Flashing CM roms on a feature-rich device makes absolutely no sense whatsoever! Well, of course that is unless you simply don't like using the features on that particular device...

I don't know anything about the transformer, but I do like Asus laptops.
Transformer is a very solid unit. Good screen, nice and quick, well-built.
If you get one, definitely consider the keyboard dock also. It really makes extended use (especially browsing XDA for hours on end) much more pleasant.
There are a couple of units available in the marketplace at good prices, Donharden has a great 16GB unit. Check them out!
Good luck!
Go for it, best at it's hardward range Tegra 2, compare to Thrive and Iconia..Gtab.
It's thinner and well built. I had played with it and others side by side at office depot. The Tf101 hands down.
Thanks for the input guys, I want to go down to best buy and compare still though, I hate how demo units are always all messed up and slowed down from all the things people do to them. It really makes it hard to judge.

we had a kindle. Lovely device... until the nexus came out.
You can't even utilize things like Google voice, maps with gps etc.
But I guess that still counts. I would never put the kindle in the same category as these devices though. We had one until 2 days ago. It sold within 10 minutes, which was $135

I was going to say... you kind of crippled the Xoom having the wallpaper up. While the n7 was made for jellybean I think its more a product of having such newer hardware in the n7 compared to the Xoom. You have faster memory, quad core, and a more powerful GPU on the n7. Even though PPI settings are set higher for the n7, effectively you have less going on, less screen real estate etc for the same or similar resolution. I'd like to see the build.prop edited on the Xoom the same as the n7 if it could be displayed without crashing with everything possible configured the same. I think you are still going to see the fact that the n7 is a generation newer processor wise will still beat out the Xoom.
On the other hand, it still looks pretty nice on the Xoom. Jb breathes new life into dual core devices!

As he correctly points out in the video, he's using a custom hacked together ROM on the Xoom vs. a stable ROM on the Nexus 7. What he doesn't mention is that the Xoom ROM is a port. It's not compiled from source...it can't be. Google hasn't dropped the Xoom source code for JB into AOSP yet.
Let's compare this again when the Xoom actually has source code available and someone compiles a raw AOSP ROM for it, thus we can compare apples to apples.

you think Google builds aosp source code for every device? your smokin!
hash code built jellybean from SOURCE and created the device tree, added necessary drives, and compiled. far from a port, I would only assume the same was done for the Xoom. a port? cmon!
Your accent is ridiculous. Good comparison though.

OK you're right, I stand corrected. You can probably build for the wingray and stringray out of what's there now, but there are still no binaries for JB for either the Xoom or Nexus S. I'd imagine things will still run better once that stuff is available, particularly updated graphics drivers.

Pretty sure that if you been "modding" devices alike for awhile you would know more about HTC devices and there source code and binaries arn't just a overnight process to port (not to say samsung are easier at times).
AOSP is very close to being done via the msm8960 group that is porting all the code daily. Daniel on the team posted this on his Google+ today Cm10.1 HTC ONE. By next week we will almost have a working AOSP build / kernel for this device, outside polishing its gonna be awesome and worth the wait. If you insist on a s4 go for it! its your money, your decision!

Well, HTC devices are very high quality, after you get past the carrier blocks to root, unlock bootloader, s-off and flash a custom rom, (aosp preferably because its always newer than sense).
But I'd rather get the updates first at the cost of a camera not being as good and ease of rooting.

How long do you think before Google drops support for it and we get no more updates?
Even if they do drop support for it that's what places like this are for. I'm still rocking a 5 year old phone. Granted it might not be as fancy as the newer models out there. With custom ROMs produced by the fine people of this site it's still up to date as far as what OS it can run.
i think probably soon. htc one X with tegra 3 has dropped support saying nividia did not provide the driver. I reckon for the next update, google will probably say the same thing. Just like how they stop updating galaxy nexus with the same reason
They want you to buy newer models so updates will stop on any device.

Agreed....best thing I ever bought. Totally worth the money and when it comes to support.....I'm still using a 2011 HTC rezound running kit kat thanks to the developers on here. Our nexus 7 (2012) will get updates thanks to developers for quite a while still.

As you know Kitkat is not compatible with Galaxy Nexus, a 2011 device...
I still think that new version of Android will be compatible with Nexus 2012 (I have one so I hope so too), but probably that was the last officialy version released for this device.
It could change if they sell a new Nexus 7 this year. If they do so... I think that they will drop Nexus 2012 support this year...
The official GNex was dropped not because of the device itself (KK runs fine on my gf's GNex), but because the SoC's manufacturer (Texas Instruments) closed its SoC division and so they stopped updating the drivers and Google wants updated drivers in every new releases.

There will still be custom ROM's that you can flash and it'll be compatible for years to come.
I've no intention of getting another tablet for a while yet I may get a chrome book next but I primarily use my Nexus 7, best thing I ever bought.

As an owner of a previous Tegra device (g2x) I'm pretty aware of the vendor's level of support: None. Basically, once Google is done with it, nVidia will be done as well. So I wouldn't count on upgrades going on forever like we're used to with Qualcomm devices. Still, I'm getting one cheap as a backup for my N7 2013 LTE (which is in the process of getting a new screen leaving me tablet-less for now... ugh)...
Nexus devices usually get support for 18 months. So it will most likely kit kat is the last update for nexus 7 2012.
