Gmail not auto updating - Moto X Q&A

Have had att moto x for about 2 months on kit kat. Since last week gmail stopped auto updating intermittently. A reboot sometime fixes this temporarily but then again stops syncing. If I manually refresh it works fine. This happens when on wifi or 4G. Any ideas?

Click to collapse
Go to settings - data usage, then hit your menu button. Is "Auto-sync data" selected?
Also, check under settings - accounts - google. Click on your e-mail address and make sure "Gmail" is checked for sync.
Hopefully that helps.

[Q] RealTime notifications, 2.3.3

Hi all,
I upgraded my N1 from 2.2.1 STOCK to 2.3.3 STOCK. Since upgrade I've noticed that I don't get my email notifications in real-time anymore. I have to either wait ages (hours) then I get a notification I have new email, or I have to go into Gmail and hit Refresh.
In regards to settings on my N1, I have enabled:
Background Data
Auto Sync
Within Gmail settings, I have enabled:
Email Notifications.
Any ideas on this one guys?
are the icons in notification bar green (3G logo and reception logo)?

No they are not. They are grey. But, they are only grey with WiFi on. Icons are green with WiFi off. I've just carried out some test emails with WiFi off and I get them in RealTime.
Do you know why I'm not getting them in RealTime through WiFi? I used to, before I upgraded to 2.3.3
what i think is that google services are blocked when using wifi. green icons mean you are connected with google servers, thismeans online gtalk and realtime recieving mails.
But it's really weird that after updating that you ar not connected anymore with google servers through wifi. Are you using wifi a work or school. maybe they changed their policy.
I'm using wifi at work. Ill check my home wifi tonight to see what happens.
Perhaps I need to update my Radio?
I'm using 5.08.00.4
Thanks for your help so far.

I don't think it's radio related, I also used that radio with GB. But try it at home if it works home then your work changed their internet access policy.
goodluck
I am having the same issue but when I look at my inbox it says I have x emails in my inbox but does not show the emails until I do a manual refresh, very weird. I have green wifi and 3G.
Also, whatever I do in gmail on my phone is not updated when I check using a PC.
Open and log into Google Talk to start the push connection?

Your right! It is the Work firewall. Admin must have blocked some ports, thus preventing connection. Least I know the phone isnt faulty.
Thanks again!

WiFi Disconnects & Reconnects after 4.3 update

One phone is on Flex's 4.3 Stock with Goodies. The other is my wife's stock phone with the latest 4.3 update.
After the update, both phones are reconnecting and disconnecting on home WiFi router constantly (every minute) This did not happen before the update. Wireless laptop still connects fine to the router.
Are there phone settings to tinker with regarding this issue? OR do yall think it's a modem issue. It should also be noted that my phone connects just fine to my work's WiFi.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Update/ Bump
Things I have done to my router thus far, and am still experience constant disconnect / reconnect
Set the router to B only
Set the router to G only
Set the router to N only
Changed the channel of the router
removed WEP/WPA Password
Upgraded firmware in this router
reset router
kicked router
Both phones are still having this issue. Do you any of you folks think it could be some conflict in handing out IP Addresses by the router?
ten etessar
I am having the exact same issue. It was happening on the stock ROM after the 4.3 update. Yesterday I rooted and flashed Stock w Goodies, the problem is still there.
Yup happening to me also but I thought it was just my phone not playing nice with the router. Problem persists even on the 5.5 roms

I was having the same problem..so I turneded off roaming and it still happened somewhat...then I reflashed the separate radio and it's much better

What radio specifically did you flash?

This has happened to me as well. Changing the radio to the newest one helps a little as does changing to Roam Only or No Roaming. Also, placing the phone onto airplane mode and then connecting to wifi alleviates the problem. Unfortunately the most reliable fix I could find was flashing back to 4.1.2.
My theory is that something about how 4.3 handles connectivity in relation to cell service borks connectivity with all other radios on the phone because when I used my Moga with 4.3 it would constantly disconnect when the radio switched between Sprint and Roaming. But I'm not a developer nor do I understand much except for the basics.
Same issue. Only with certain apps though, like Facebook. Pretty sure it's not me because I'm stock unrooted and all my other devices work fine.
Yep, same here I am also experiencing an issue on Badseed's rom where I get a constant popup every 3 minutes or so asking if I want to allow data access for this trip or for all trips. No matter what I select it keeps coming back, even in settings where I select to allow all types of roaming I am still having this issue.... Any ideas?
I already had the latest 4.3 firmware update (soff) and then a couple weeks later I flashed the latest radio found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2406330
I also disabled roaming plus I changed the lte/cdma option under data settings to Automatic
So far so good

Happened to me too. No clue. Maybe sense 5.5 will fix it but I switched Roms.

[Q] random wifi disconnects

i keep getting random wifi disconnects all the time. it is getting a little old. i was wondering if anyone can help me fix this problem? i have tried to install the rom several times with the same results each time. i have also changed router channels and setting with no change.
anyone have any ideas?
i am on
Bad Boyz Sprint ONE ROM 4.3 v1.2 Sense 5.0 ROM
hboot 1.44
radio 1.00.20.1108
Been having same issues since 4.3 update and I'm stock.

Same here, but it only happens with some networks, like at work. At home, no problems. Running Team Nocturnal 4.4.2, latest radio, and tried other radios as well.
At work, I've got to cycle airplane mode on/off to get things running again, but then WiFi drops out again.
Tried turning off WiFi optimization, tried forcing 2.4ghz only vs auto, and also tried manually adding network by typing in SSID (on a Google forum, someone mentioned this fixed things for them).
No idea what's causing this. Like I said, home network works perfectly fine on 2.4ghz and auto mode.
Try updating firmware http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48649096

Tried that-- did it before I wiped everything to install 4.4.2.
I had this issue too a while back. What seemed to fix it for me was unchecking Wi-Fi optimization in the Wi-Fi advanced settings. Try this, hope it helps.

Thanks for the suggestion. Already tried it.
Don't know why this is happening, and only on some networks.
Works 100% at home. Good enough! But if anyone finds a fix, I'm all ears.
Always disconnecting from any Wi-Fi source in on. At home either on the at&t uverse gateway or Linksys bridge in room. Same scenario. Even at Starbucks or in hotels i get the same issue. Just randomly drops off switches to 3g/4g then reconnects to Wi-Fi. Just like it did right now as I'm trying to post this

Same here. Completely stock. Happens on multiple wi-fi networks. I've tried all of the fixes mentioned in this thread. Extremely annoying. An airplane mode toggle seems to fix things for awhile, but it always comes back.
Any word on the likelihood of this being fixed with the upcoming 4.4 update?

I had this problem too doesnt happen on CM 11 but if i RUU back to stock wifi disconnects all the time. I disabled the NFC and that seem to work for me.
to disable NFC go to settings and under wireless networks there is a more menu. uncheck the last box which is NFC. the icon will also disappear at the top.
still the same. i tried all of those options. still does the random disconnect to mobile data then back to wifi.
This may sound crazy, but try switching network to cdma only, before turning on wifi. Noticed the random disconnects when there was no 4G LTE or it was spotty. Hope this helps Turning off mobile data completely while on wifi should also work

Any chance we're all having issues with the same comcast wireless router/modem?
I'm having issues with 2wire and Linksys. Nothing has seemed to help issue. Besides just staying connected to sprint network.

S6 edge is not connecting to the wifi automatically.

It looks like my device is not autoconneting to the wifi. I don't know the problem. I always leave my wifi on in my device. It used to connect automatically before, but not now I have been observing this since last 3 weeks. It only connects to wifi if toggle the switch on to off and again on. And if I go into wifi settings it starts searching. Is this a known issue or else something wrong with this device. I always keep the wifi smart network switch off.

I have the same issue but it doesn't happen all the time. I usually notice it while I'm at work later in the day or when I get home and want to throw netflix on the chromecast.
Yes it's the same issue.

Same issue here. For me it happens when I reboot the phone. When it turns back on it does not reconnect to the wifi network. In fact, it asks me for the password again like it never saved it to begin with.
But my phone doesn't ask for the password.
Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
Let me rephrase that. It doesn't reconnect and when I go to manually connect it asks for my password again like I've never connected before.
I have just reproduce the scenario, I am at my home and it didn't connect to the wifi (wifi is on). After seeing your reply I have turned of the phone (not robot button) and powered on the phone and that magically connect to my home without doing anything.
Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
Was definitely a problem with permissions, reinstalled after a wipe and no problems at all.
What did you exactly do can you give me steps to do what you have done.
Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
Opened flashfire and did a wipe and flash of cleanrom. Running perfectly.
So I have gone through the safe mode on s6 and everything is working fine and it automatically reconnects. The problem is with the apps we install. To my point android test app is getting this worse. I had ton of apps installed and don't know which one is causing the issue so I have to factory reset the phone. And tried to install apps one by one and this time the only I need the most and the problem is solved.

MMS bug

This is the first day I'm using my p9 on mobile data after the b170 update yesterday. I narrow this issue down with sending MMS vis 4G/LTE. Once I try to send an MMS my mobile internet goes offline and the MMS never sends. It still shows I'm connected but when going to chrome it says I'm offline. I have to turn mobile data off and on to reestablish a connection. But once I try to send an MMS, I go offline again. I can send MMS just fine on 3G/H and I'm able to stay online. Anyone else seen this issue on the recent b170 update?

Never mind, it was an apn issue. Very weird as I never had to mess with apn settings before.

Also weird, as I was having issues with my 6P too. I had to reset my APN settings on both phones. This is on T-Mobile btw.
