LocationManagerService eating battery overnight - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Every night i leave my phone with 2G active only: wifi, sync and 3G data is off.
Before upgrade to 4.3 it wopuld use 2 or 3% overnight, in about 8 hours.
After upgrade to 4.3 battery drain is now 8% in 8 hours.
I have installed batter battery stat and I have found out that the cause may be LocationManagerService that in 8 hours has issued partial wakelocks for 15 minutes, with a count of 1,000+ calls for a total of 30% battery drain.

It seems this is a general android problem, also an old one... mmmmmmmmm...
Will do some more google search, but till now in 3+ hours of serach I have found no solution...
Could please someone with 4.3 run the same test?
1. Install better battery stat
2. put phone in flight mode
3. put phone on charge for 5 minutes
4. unplug phone and let it saty for 6 or 8 hours overnight
5. run better battery stat and check the battery drain and rationduring the 6/8 hours and under partial wakelocks report the LocationmanagerService data
Thanks

Strange battery drain

Hi all! First of all sorry for my english
I've bought my xperia z few days ago and I am experiencing a very low battery life, even without using the device too much. First thing I noticed (when I fully charged the device for the first time) was the the standby time approximately only 5 hours with stamina mode (!!!) and a huge battery drain, something like 1% every 2-3 minutes with only mobile connection (GSM) activated and some browsing (no flash only text), no bravia engine, no video, no application in background, lowest possible light screen and of course stamina mode. After about 2 hours 60% of battery remained. Now I have about 5% and I used it for about 20 minutes of browsing, some game (2D), and nothing more.
I ran a test on the battery but seems in good health.
I should re-calibrate my battery?
N.B.
When I bought it I have used it until the discharge (10-5%) of battery then I've made partial charge up to 50-60% then discharge again (10-5%), afterwards a full charge of about 5-6 hours. Can this have damaged the battery?

did you update to .434? because some users say that they got a battery drain when they updated to this version,
anyways, ill give you a solution that works for me,,, install " snapdragon batery guru" really helps alot , and you will noticed some battery improvements, much better than the power management mode,
p.s. dont use it on gaming to much, and dont remove it to charger often ( even when its not fully charged yet)
If the service test say the, battery is fine, it probably is.
Have you tried factory reset?
It sounds like some app is keeping the device awake (and very active)
Try providing some more info, like battery stats.
You should install wakelock detector or better battery stats and see if there's a bad app. And solve it with greenify or uninstall
Sorry I'm quite noob on android, xperia is my first android device I'm coming from symbian
Yes I updated on .434
For the apps keeping awake, I only saw the "battery usage" menu ad it says: Display 46%, Chrome 11%, Android System 11%, Media Server 10%, Standby 4%
Well to begin with de activate chrome, and all syncing.
Settings > accounts > press account & de activate all automatic synchronisation.
For chrome go to apps > all apps > chrome > deactivate.
Then go to play store download dolphin browser

ok ill try. Some friends told me to fully discharge then recharge for about 12 hours, can this work?
Another thing, I saw some screen of estimated standby time of xperias in the forum, they are all around 1 day, but mine even with a 100% full charge says only 5 hours, what can be?

Xperia SP battery issue?

Hi
I think I might have an issue with the battery on an xperia sp which I got a few days ago. When idle with stamina on it's loosing between 1-2% per hour. I've used Gsam and recorded some stats to show what's using up the battery when the phone is not in use. Hope it makes some sense
loosing ~2% per hour phone in idle screen off
Stamina on, GSM only
Tried airplane, not much difference
Tried Stamina off, no difference
Charged to 95%
61% @ 10:16PM
34% battery use - of that
screen 56.3% (1hr 47min)
phone radio 6.5%
wifi 3.7%
apps 33.3%
TOTAL DRAIN ON BATTERY
-------------------
19% screen (avg 0.18% per minute)
2% phone radio
1.2% wifi
11% apps
____________________________________________
13 HOURS IDLE LATER - 17-20% BATTERY GONE
____________________________________________
44% @ 11.04AM(QUICKLY DROPPED TO 41% in around 2
minutes)
51% battery use - of that
screen 49.8% (1hr 48min)
radio 13.1%
wifi 7.4%
apps 29.6%
TOTAL DRAIN ON BATTERY
-------------------
screen 25.4% (WHY THE INCREASE of 6.4% when OFF all the time?)
radio 6.6% (+4.6%)
wifi 3.78% (+2.58%)
apps 14.8% (+3.4%, not sure why, stamina turns off all apps?)
6.4 + 4.6 + 2.6 + 3.4 = 17%
Why are these using up so much power in idle with stamina mode on?
Hello,
remove your simcard, reboot, got in to flightmode and let Wifi enabled.
now let phone unused for 8hours. its all Ok then accu should drain only 0,05%/h.
This is my XSP which i use only as alarmclock an every day 1 hour as Musicplayer.
I have tried without the sim card but it didn't do anything.
I notice in your screenshot though that there is no connection to 'mobilfunknetzsignal' ... mine is there even when the sim card is out, how did you get rid of it?

You must enable the flightmode under "settings->network->more" .
and then please install BetterBatteryStats to see if you have wakelocks and your device go in to deepsleep after turn of the screen.

Ah yes.. I tried flight mode one night and it still lost 15%
I have also used wakelock detector and it says phone is in deep sleep 99 percent of the time but still the battery is draining 1-2% per hour
Right now the battery is 27% down from 44% 2 hours ago... and I have hardly used it. I'll recharge and try again without turning screen on at all and see whats using it up.
Is there any explanation why the screen used 6.4% of the battery overnight when it was off all the time?
I'm too having about same problem..and am really interested in answer/solution,,,
Please, anyone?
I think I have fixed it but not sure. Phone was charged 24 hours ago to 99%, now its 94%. Definitely not using alot of power with stamina mode now but the screen was only used for 5-10 minutes, I've yet to test if it acts the same after screen has been used for a long time before going idle.
What I did was run phone setup again and update all apps
Now 88% after 40 hours, screen on for 25 minutes. Xperias battery monitor and gsam show completely different usage, android system takes up the majority in the xperia one but only 10% in gsam (under apps)
I checked wakelock detector and something called 'syncloopwakelock' was on for 4 and half hours. Is there any way to disable this? I already have auto sync in settings turned off.
A phone is meant to be used. Using it only from time to time to have as much standby time as possible is just a waste of a good phone.
I can get two days with heavy use. A lot of music, whatsapp, facebook and XDA Premium app..

I know, but there was a clear issue before as the battery was draining 20 percent overnight reducing the time I can actually use it. I was getting 5 hours screen on time one day, and only 2 hours the next. Just trying to make sure it has stopped, seems like it has
Would like to solve this syncloop thing though. I have no interest in syncing any accounts as I don't use them.
Simple fix
Change your rom, stock rom eats so much battery and has so many bloats, apps keep running in the background all sony apps.
MIUI is on jellybean and it gives me average of 1 day 20hours on normal use with wifi always on and sim card inserted..texting call and stuff
Problem has returned, woke up today to find battery under 50% and it was at least 75% when I went to sleep. Wakelock detector doesn't show anything and says phone was asleep all the time. Sony's battery graph though shows the phone was awake most of the time, but I can't find the cause in GSam or wakelock detector.
i think i have a idea. it can come from WiFi. there is a bug in all android 4.1. Set Wifi to allways on and deactivate/delete LocationBasedWiFi app from sony.
you can found it with BetterBatteryStats under Process.
Some screenshots
in this screenshoots the problem is not shown. When it comes from WiFi driver it is not a app that drain the accu, but a process.
The Line with awake in history details you can ignore, its buggy in 4.1.
I have searched through everything in Wakelock Detector and only process I found with alot of time is syncloopwakelock which is 4.5 hours. But this was already about 4 hours when battery was 85%
If I buy BetterBatteryStats will this show the problem? As you an see it drained at slow rate for 2 days then suddenly started dropping faster yesterday. I made no changes to Wifi settings, it is always on ... and I use Stamina mode.
Yes BBS will show the problem as "wifistatemachine", if the error should really be come from. you must not buy it, search on XDA for apk.
but if it come from your syncloopwakelock then i can not help.
Holy crap
I charged the phone to 96%, used it for 30 min (down to 92 percent) then went to sleep. Woke up and it was 28% and kept dropping !!! I've checked BBS, Gsam and I can't find the cause... again. After uploading these SS its at 12 percent.

Battery problems overnight after upgrade to 4.3

Before upgrading to 4.3 I would live the z1 with data, wifi and sync off overnight, only 2G would be on, and the phone would use less than 3% of battery.
After upgrade to 4.3 I am now getting inconsistent results, sometimes it is even using 1% per hour on 3G only and screen off.

Hi again,
I think I found what is causing the drain: google localization services...
I repeat: wifi, gps, data and sync were all off, only 2G was on.
I attached 6 screenshots: 3 from better battery stats and 3 from localization settings (they are in Italian but I will trasnalte).
- Batt Stat 1: in 10 hours and 5 minutes it went from 99% to 94% with a rate of 0.5% per hour, the phone remained most of the time in deep sleep and was awake only 11 minutes
- Batt Stat 2: I see 3 kernel wakelocs on the top three positions: alarm_rtc, qpnp_soc_wake and powermanagerservice
- Batt Stat 3: at the top of partial wakelocks here we find LocationManagerService with 630 instances for 25 minutes, for an equivalent of 222%
Follow my location settings:
- Settings 1: in Localization Settings I have ACCESS TO MY POSITION enable, GPS disabled and ALLOW GOOGLE LOCALIZATION SERVICES enabled
- Settings 2: again here you can see how ALLOW GOOGLE TO ACCESS YOUR POSITION is enabled
- Settings 3: here in GOOGLE GEOLOCALIZATION (this is accessible either from maps or from G+ settings) you can see that ACCESS TO MY POSITION is enabled (and this reflects the same settings in Settings 1), in addition SHARE MY POSITION is enabled but POSITION HISTORY is disabled
I have to admint that localization settings in Android are not clear at all
I know that 0.5% per hour is not a lot, but trust before upgrade to 4.3 the drain was maybe 2% in 8 hours.
Thanks
anyone?
And have you tried disabling these along with location apps such as Google Maps and checking overnight drain again?

In addition data and wifi is off so why would licalisation try so often?
Maybe a bug in 4.3 localization services?

Battery drain over night

Hello, I'm new here. Coming from a Galaxy Nexus, and I'm impressed with this device already.
My question is if it's normal that battery drains around 4 or 5 % over night. I always turn off data, wifi, put it on airplane mode. I also disabled active display, the camera gesture thing and the voice commands.
I think it should be 0% drain :/

Zero drain is pretty much impossible unless you turn it off or own an old school Nokia

(Guessing 8 hours of sleep.) .5-.6 % per hour is great for this phone.
With data (not wifi), active display, gestures and voice commands turned on, plus a few root level changes like greenify, xposed amplify and freezing apps, I achieve around 1 % per hour at idle on stock 4.4.4. This usually equates to around 3 days standby and 1.5 hours of screen time for me.
(I am now testing lollipop... I'm at 1.5 days with 1.5 hours screen time, longer than normal talk time and 30% battery remaining.)
I don't even make it to a day lol. Usually I've to charge at night and then around 7 pm
Here is my sleep running r12 kernel. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59527748&postcount=811 And I don't turn on airplane mode or anything. That is just screen off.
Same problem here (Android 4.4.4, rooted).
Battery drain in flight mode (additionally also tried Moto Voice off, Active Display off, Data off, GPS off without any positive effects) is nearly the same as over the day when using the phone.
The fact that "Stand by" has 25% of all battery usage is a little bit perverted
I'm really happy with Moto X' battery consumption over the day. Normally I have to charge it every second night. But putting to flight mode at 56% when going to sleep and not charging it and finding it at 40% the next morning is kind of frustrating
Install Bettery Guru from Qualcomm, from play store if you run 4.4.x or download the apk from somewhere if you run 5.1+. It will help you reduce the standby drain.

From my experience the Motorola SoC has a abnormal high Standby battery drain. You can try whatever you want but you will not get below a certain level like on other phones. Perhaps the contextual cores are never turned off no matter if you use the feature or not, i don't know. At least it gets me trough a day...

Not really, check the screenshot below. For 10hrs ide, it drained 2-3% witch is perfectly normal.
1 square = 1hr

NOTE 5 MM Idle Wi-Fi battery drain

I have a n920c with cambodian marshmallow flashed on it!
I have rooted it via cf autoroot and it works perfectly fine. It automatically roots and fixes deep sleep simultaneously!
The thing is, I have literally negligible standby battery drain when wifi is off. But if I keep it on, the standby drain rockets up to 4% an hour. I need to keep wifi on during sleep because I need to stay connected at all times on viber and whatsapp with family so I don't want to keep wifi off during sleep.
Is it normal to experience this much drain when wifi during standby is on ( ~4%/hr).
If somebody has a solution, please do help me out.
Because this means, if I'm doing my work when my phone sits beside me with wifi on (which i need) and I lose this much, I'm at a great loss.
Or is this normal with all note fives?
P.S. I keep everything greenified, location off, all battery saving things etc etc..
Would love it if anyone had a fix.
I have the 920C too on MM but not rooted.
I've got a bad battery drain overnight as well (around 20-25% per night).
Greenify and most bloatware disabled.
I'll try to turn wifi off tonight and see if anything changes.

My battery life on lollipop wasn't any better either.
Then I think this is common with everyone.
Your Wi-Fi sucked the life out of your phone during the night.

What firmware are you on? Did you do a factory reset prior to installing the update?
Do you have other mods installed? Or apps that might be requesting constant data connection?

What I find extremely curious is that if I constantly use my phone throughout the day, I get great battery life. As in I come home after 8 and a half hours with only 30% battery loss; which is amazing.
Note that by "constantly use" I mean heavy usage where I browse the internet, check email, edit documents, compulsively check social media including snapchat and the like with constant texting, but without gaming or long periods of video playback.
I'm starting to think if I keep an app running and keep my screen on but dimmed to the max all night long, I might get less battery drain
Is this on wifi or network? Wifi kills my phone battery at home eve ln it's not being used.
Yesterday I installed juice defender and I have 20% more charge remains than previously with a typical day use for me. It turns wifi off and hibernates when I press home key on the home screen (gestures in Nova settings). Seems to be helping no end - +20% battery by end of a typical day. This is in addition to package disabler and Greenify, and auto wifi off when I leave home using IFTTT, as well as optimised apps. Try it.
