[SOLVED] Total black screen in CWM - display issue - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys.
My NOOK HD+ is suffering of black screen. It seems to be able to boot into CWM, but the screen just stays black, when I try to boot from SD card. The NOOK itself won't show the "NOOK" boot logo, and stays with black screen forever. I know, that the display is not broken, since the LCD turns on, but remains black - the light is dimming during the boot into CWM, when pushing the "n"-button.
I am able to use the buttons to navigate, but I can't see anything trying to navigate to fix it.
I have followed the steps provided and created a bootable SD card (Sandisk 8GB HC) with CWM (NookHDplus-bootable-CWM-6028-for-stock-4GB-rev4-(05.15.13).zip) (All worked with CM10.1 previously)
Then installed cwm-recovery-ovation-3.zip, cm-10.2-20131102-SNAPSHOT-M1-ovation.zip (CM10.2!!) and gapps.
Can anyone help me. If someone could provide screenshots of the CWM 6.0.2.8 menu (full) for NOOK HD+, this would be nice, to navigate in CWM without screen. I did somehow fixed this previously, but don't know how, since I can't see the screen.

I think you lack battery.
Try to turn the nook on (u get the black screen) and let it charge for 5 hours.
Eventually it will start by itself or you have to restart it manually.
Then you should be able to boot into CWM or whatever you wish to do

Did not fix the problem, but I did solved the issue...
It seems, that the display has a loose connection, and when flexing in the upper left and lower right corners, the display come on and off. I have not twisted the edges by force, but a small grip only can cause it.
So a faulty unit, rather than CWM issue. Thanks for the suggestions you gave me. :good:

[Q] HELP!!!

I have rooted my Nook color using the autonooter program and I am having a HUGE issue.
The Nook color will power up, but when it does it just freezes on the "Touch the Future of Reading" screen. If I have the SD card in it wont boot at all.
But when I plug it up to my PC or to the wall charger it will power up, but freeze at the "Touch the Future of Reading" screen, while if I have the SD card in, it will freeze at the "n" logo screen, after the "this product contains abobe reader systems" pops up.
I am pretty sure I've bricked it and I dont want anyone elses' Nook color ending up like mine.
If you know of anything I can do then please, PLEASE tell me!!!!
Personally, I would run the stock release from B&N to revert back to 100% stock, and then try rerooting. The first time I rooted I ran into some issues and this was what I did to get it working right.

[Q] Nook Color Not Powering Up

I've been folowing the dev forum for quite some time and done all sorts of mods to my Nook Color. The other day though, I was going to flash the OC kernel for nookie but when I powered it off and went to power it back on, nothing happened. No screen flash, no boot animation, nothing. It seems like the power button just stopped working. I even went as far as to take the back cover off, disconnect the battery, and manually short out the leads for the power switch with no luck. I dont really want to send it in for support because Nookie and HC are still on there and I dont want them to tell me they cant do anything so I figured I'd ask for advice first. Any help is appreciated!
A good test is to try one of the bootable SD options just to see if your Nook will boot at all. If it boots from SD but not emmc, search the forums for how to reflash /boot.

[Q] Captivate Black Screen With Buttons Highlighted. Help!

Hi Folks,
I have been using an unlocked Captivate for 3 months. I recently flashed MIUI ROM - 1.7.8 (from Cognition) and it was working fine for a day. Suddenly, when I had put the phone on charge (power not USB), the screen turned black and the phone is not working after that.
I flashed to stock (ODIN: as mentioned here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=776255) but after that the AT&T logo comes up (with the screen display very dull) and I hear the Samsung startup sound (no screen). That is all. It goes to black screen with the buttons highlighted.
If I connect it to my PC, I can browse the SD card but the screen doesn't turn on at all. I tried re-flashing to stock multiple times with no luck. Please help!

So your saying your phone actually fully boots, you just can't see it? (I would test this by calling myself) This is a problem I've never heard of.... Can you boot into recovery with a working screen? Could be a hardware problem, considering how it happened.
Hi,
I was able to call my number earlier (before flashing back to stock) but not anymore (get a busy line after the first ring). However, I get the AT&T screen (only time I see something on my screen) and the Samsung startup tone and the buttons are all highlighted. The screen is black.
Even when I did Odin, I was doing it from a black screen (the Download icon on the screen didn't show up). I never get to see anything on the screen other than the at&t logo (so not able to boot into recovery actually!).
I just hope it is not a h/w pbm. I would rather try fixing it myself (if it s/w pbm) than taking it to the store

What kind of charger were you using? Honestly, it sounds like you fried some of those beautiful innards I'm no expert, though.

It could possibly be because of the power issue (my charger model is ETA0U60JBE which supports 100-240v and I have 240v at my place so it should not ideally be a pbm). I'm just trying to see if there is some s/w fix for this situation before giving it for a h/w check.
Would this be a problem with my LED screen (though I see the at&t logo come up)? If it is, would it be some connection issue to the LED screen or a completely dead LED?

Nook HD+ booting into a blank screen and stays like that [help]

Yesterday I put it on charging when I went to sleep. Today morning I tried to ON the tab and it just boots to a blank screen and stays like that. My Nook HD+ has stock rom and only modifications was one which allow third pary apps to install. I don't know what to do, please help me...
[Edit] It won't even boot to the CWM backup SD card. When long press power button screen's truning off and long pressing power button again makes the blank screen to appear. Once it reached till the nook 99% screen and then it became blank, twice the very first nook boot screen appeared and then it went blank... and now after several trying only blank screen appears.
After a lot of tries, it finally resetted to factory settings. But a couple of minutes after loging in to my account, blank black screen again appeared and it stays like that. I turned the device off and turned it on after some time, it again booted to the black blank screen for a couple of times. I decided to leave the device on like that. After about 5-7 minutes staying idle, the device booted to the nook os automatically. But the blank screen process repeated. I tried restoring my stock backup using CWM, but the blank screen process is happening in CWM too after some time.... After a lot of tries, I finally restored my stock backup using CWM. But the problem is still there.... Anybody know what is happening? What I do now?
Any advice is really appreciated... thanks.
Any of the experts here know, why this is happening and what to do?

It sounds like a defective device to me. Time for a warranty exchange.

[Q] Nook HD+ won't boot

Hi all,
I bought a Nook HD+ around a year ago, and installed CM11 and CWM recovery on it. Everything worked fine until coming back from a trip in June, when I noticed that the power button required several tries to power on the device. I thought nothing of it until I came home and found that it wouldn't turn on at all, having tried all the button combinations and power cycles suggested in these forums. Now here's the strange part: I believe the internal eMMC may be corrupted because a) there's no battery icon when plugging it in. and b) when trying to turn it on, the screen is clearly on for a couple of seconds. It turns grayish and I can see the edges of backlighting, but there's nothing on it. Also, it won't boot from microSD or show anything on the screen at all. So, I have two questions: 1) What is the cause of this problem, e.g. broken screen or bad memory, and 2) What can I do to fix this? The tablet is just out of warranty, but I do live relatively close to a B&N store.
Thanks in advance,
sgamer395
