[Q] Potential buyer. A few questions.

Hello there
I have been trying to decide between the HTC One and the Galaxy S4 for quite some time now that I am actually getting tired from all the research and reading. My first Android device was the HTC One X, and to be honest I was thoroughly disappointed with it. The battery life was utter crap, Sense UI was incredibly laggy, I received absolutely no software updates (OTA) because I am in the Middle East and we usually get the updates 3 - 4 months after everyone else, the device was white and it started losing its color rather quickly and it garnered a lot of dings even though I am a careful user. I then moved to the Galaxy S3 and am pretty satisfied with it even though it isn't without its problems (which are also making me fear buying the S4), therefore I have a couple of questions regarding the HTC One:
1) How's the battery life? My usage is usually browsing, using whatsapp, installing new applications from the PlayStore to try them, listening to music from time to time and usually using Mobile Network (HSDPA or w.e it's called) instead of Wi-Fi, which I eats a lot of battery.
2) How's the material? Is it a bit weak like the HTC One X's or is the aluminum strong? If I get the HTC One I'll be getting the silver color.
3) Are there any heat issues? I remember the One X got really hot (but not unbearable) rather quickly and the material didn't help, either. Cases did, though.
4) Has the Sense UI improved in terms of laggyness when swiping and such from the One X's?
5) What is the latest firmware available for the HTC_J15 CID at the moment? That was my One X's CID and I am assuming it's because I am in Egypt, therefore the HTC One is supposedly going to be the same.
6) How's the camera in low-light conditions and the flash?

1) Excellent. I'm a heavy user, play ton of games, browse the internet with LTE (which uses more power than HSPA+) and it gets me through the day with at least 30% to spare.
2) Build quality is excellent.
3) It does get warm if you play graphically heavy games. other than that, I can't say it really got hot or anything.
4) Theres no lag on this phone at all. None. It's butter smooth, which you can't say the same thing about the s4 which lags like crazy.
5) No idea, sorry.
6) Low light is amazing. The whole benefit of the ultrapixel camera is for low light.

Thank you so much for your helpful and informative replies, they have definitely reassured me about the HTC One. I am not one to fully trust reviews from known people on YouTube or writers on Gizmodo and such because the biases are very clear, that's why even though this is a section dedicated to the HTC One I do not see a reason why someone would lie about their experience with the One in order to persuade others to buy it, what would they benefit anyway?

Yeah this phone is amazing. The phone does get rather warm when playing games or video chatting. But everything is butter smooth. 0 lag. At all. I still don't believe it. And the camera really excels at low light. At normal or bright levels its just good. Nothing super awesome, but good. And the build quality is top notch. Never seen a nicer looking phone or felt one that feels better in my hands. Hope this helps! I would definitely buy this phone again

2- aluminum phones get hot. this is not an issue its designed like that. aluminum transfers the heat from the internals which prolongs the life of the phone. this is why car engines are made of aluminum and more importantly heat sinks on cicuit boards are aluminum

I agree with you. Plus, just about any device I played games on or browsed for a long time got warm, so that's understandable, however the Galaxy S3 gets REALLY hot (50+) when doing normal tasks for a long time, and of course the heat results in the battery getting depleted, and unfortunately Samsung seemingly did not do much about that with the S4 since my friends are experiencing the same issues with it. I have decided I am going to get a silver 32GB HTC One; the only Developer Edition ones I found in Egypt did not have warranty, but since I am dishing out so much money (over 800 USD), I might as well go for warranty as well as an anti-impact screen protector.

Battery life is pretty good. About 4 half to 5hrs screen time. No lag on sense 5.
Camera is nice. Dont get the s4.i had it for a week and lag soo much.dont get me wrong the s4 is nice but lags kills the phone so i sold it bought htc one,plus speakers are awesome

Most of these questions could be answered through all your research. haha Sounds like you came here for that last bit of reassurance, but you already made the decision. Battery life is the big one. The regular Sense doesn't do as much as the S4, but therefore it has good battery life. S4 does all this stuff.....but it's all useless stuff and kills the battery.
It's a pretty phone...but you'll end up with a case anyway.
And you already knew about the camera. But for the same reason it's good in low light, it's not as good for regular photos.

1. Battery life pretty good. A lot (!!) better that my old One X. You can get 4-5 hrs of screen time and doing battery sucking activities along and pretty much all the time: Photos, zoes, editing,downloading, browsing intensively, etc
2. Its hard as metal Really, it does feel harder and sturdier than the One X.
3. Well, it heats up I tell you that. I mean, my "One" gets to about 37+ after I browse or snap pics and zoes for more than 5-7 minutes. It gets even hotter, at 40+, if you keep using it, but the good part is that it cools down really fast. Take a 4-5 minute brake and its back to 30 or so
Like other ppl have said, its not a flaw... Aluminum conducts heat and that is a good thing for the phone. And that brings us to the UI and lag..
4. No. No lag. No stutter. Nothing! Butter-free is the right term. Moreover, not only is it lag-free, but its super fast in terms of opening aps and dealing with commands.

No way! That would be awesome when 4.2.2 is officially out since the Middle East receives updates months later than the West. How would you go about doing so mate?

You can do S-OFF following this method by revolutionnary team found here Or Moonshine method found here you'll find the command to change the CID, you can set the CID that receives the updates firstly, to get updates with official OTA, or just root and install custom rom based on latest firmware leaks

That's awesome, man. If I am not mistaken, that was not possible with the HTC One X, or at least not when I had it - I really struggled with not receiving OTA updates when everyone else was receiving them, which is why I always went the custom route although I prefer the stock one. Would you happen to know a website like SamMobile (for Samsung) that always informs of the latest firmwares available for the device? I am using ARHD and therefore I cannot use the "Software Update" feature in the device.

Coming from the 3VO, I have a bad taste of HTC in my mouth mostly due to poor build quality, parts, update speed. With upgrade due on 1 Aug 2013 I hope to get the HTC One. Can I expect more of the same or is it a new experience?

HTC is trying, but not hard enough...you'll see most of the same IMO, but it's still fairly early to tell (IMO still doesn't make a difference, HTC will never get their act together)
I've owned two HTC phones that both got killed on GB. Very saddening

If I say one thing, I have to commend you on your dramatic title.
The One isn't for everyone. Period.
If you are gonna need to be able to zoom on the camera at all, you're out of luck. If you need a crapload of storage space, same. The American Ones haven't gotten 4.2 yet (Taiwan + Int'l have). This phone gets hot to the touch rather quickly. If you damage the device, it is hard to replace the casing yourself. You definitely can't replace any of the internals yourself. There have been reports of shoddy QC with problems including: gaps in the unibody case, mushy power buttons, self-cracking lenses (which has yet to be verified as a defect) and dead/stuck pixels. EDIT: I had my device repaired, and my power button came back recessed by about a millimeter. Again, shoddy QC.
That's not to say other devices are perfect. The S4 seems to have cracking LCD issues or something. HTC one has the best low light performance of any cell phone camera. EDIT: Review say that the Nokia 1020 and 925 beat all other cameras, including the HTC One's. Zoe allows for living, breathing pictures. The (almost)all-metal case is like nothing I've or probably anybody else has ever held before. It's miles better than any plastic phone. The boomsound speakers are simply the loudest ever. NTM that they face you, and not your hands. Sense 5 is really an improvement over 4, and the battery is enough for 1.5 - 2 days of moderate use.
The biggest tradeoff you'll be making when coming to this phone is the picture resolution. The QC issues are somewhat rare (nobody reports a perfectly good device) and some say that the heating is actually good in that the heat dissipates rather than smoldering inside the phone.(EDIT: The device regularly reaches 105 degrees F while browsing. Not sure if that's normal.) I wouldn't worry about update speed. We already have 4.3 ROMs coming from the Google Play edition. I think Samsung has the best Reputation for old product support when it comes to software updates. That is, if you don't count Cyanogenmod and iOS. My GS2 runs 4.1.2, stock.
That's just an overview of what has been discussed about this phone on XDA. The choice is yours.

Very factual, thanks for commenting I feel kind of reassured about my decision.

This is a solid device. I'm still stock,UN rooted and it really doesn't do anything bad. My phone doesn't get super hot, it takes good pics, the o.s runs great, no lag. I unplugged mine this morning at 5:30am and I still have 20% at 11:23pm. When you get the phone get a good case.

I am impressed with HTC this time around. I pretty much wrote them off in the past but I think they finally got their act together with the One.
But like others said it comes down to personal preference. There are tradeoffs and you just got to play with all your options. But I believe the consensus is that HTC really stepped it up.

I came from the Evo 3D too and I hated HTC. I heard the 3D was the worst by far with OTAs and such. I really like the One for the build and while i miss some things (like the ability for an SD) it's easy to get over. I was considering the GS4 before the One, but I took a look at them side by side and I felt the one was much better IMO.
Great build, hard to fix parts (as mentioned above), Not too sure yet about update speed. I think you should go for it :good:

I recently purchased the One and I'm so close to returning it. I can't stand the fact that you can't turn off BlinkFeed, which is a complete waste of a very limited number if Android screens. The One gives you only (yes, "only") five screens max, four not including BlinkFeed. I need two screens alone for personal and work contacts widgets. I upgraded from the original HTC Evo and I already miss that old goat.
I miss my SD card too.
Why do people talk about phones' outer shells when 99% of phones out there are sitting in some Otterbox/case?

Have you thought about using a different launcher? No blinkfeed, more customization, as many screens as you like. Personally I use Nova launcher

[Q] HTC Butterfly S vs HTC One: what else is missing?

I've recently bought an HTC Butterfly S (901s) and I must admit it's a wonderful device.
Having owned an HTC One too, I wanted to have all its good stuff with a bigger screen, bigger battery and expandable storage.
Well, to me the Butterfly S does the magic: it has "almost" everything and more (aluminum unibody design aside of course!)
Well, today I just discovered that something else must be added to the "almost" session: the OIS. I though the Butterfly S had exactly the same camera module the HTC One has, while now I see the OIS is not present. That's a pity, although nothing too dramatic to me, I'd rather have the expandable storage and other stuff.
Anyway, with this post I just wanted to find out other things the Butterfly S misses in respect to the HTC One.
The first thing that comes to my mind is the HAAC mic. I've been searching this info everywhere with no luck (there seems to be very few info about this device!), does any of you know for sure if these kind of mics are missing or they are used into the Butterfly S?
Another hardware diff may be about RAM type: is it LPDDR2 or LPDDR3?

Just try to record some very loud music with your Butterfly S and you will know if it has the HDR mic. I also want to find out about this as that will decide which device to get.

I think the biggest factor is the build - the Butterfly S has a glossy plastic build that's finished like a car paint while the One comes with the famous aluminium body of which the chamfers around the edges are susceptible to dents upon impact. I see a lot of value for the grey variant of the Butterfly S - best looking plastic phone (but that's purely personal opinion). As for the battery life, the One probably has enough for a day for most people but having 3200mAh in the Butterfly S does assure you that you can get through a day regardless of what you do. Whichever the case, I still have not made my purchase yet - still struggling like you. LOL!

I got a vouchers from my telco (StarHub) and will expire on the 1st Sep... so I still do have some time to think. Samsung S4 will be my third choice... their keyboard is not as good as HTC though and heard it lags.
I like the battery factor and expandable storage for Butterfly S. How how how?!

Lucky you, your telco is StarHub. M1's prices are just off putting. And yeah, the battery life is really good, easily can last you the whole day on a single charge.

With the variety of third party keyboards available that performs better than stock and allow u to sync your dictionary across devices, stock keyboards should not be a deciding factor imo.

I currently have the Butterfly S and previously had the One. The One was a wonderful phone and the reason I changed was... well, I got it stolen... So I decided to try the new Butterfly S that was just released.
Both are really nice devices, but if I was to decide which I prefer, I think I like the Butterfly S just because of the larger battery (and the expandable storage a plus). The build quality of the One is much better, but I usually use a case so it's usually not really noticeable. I'm also not too crazy about taking pictures so the missing OIS doesn't bother me too much either. It'll just going to be quicks snaps and if I really wanted to take nice pictures I'll use my professional camera.
It's bulkier and heavier in my pocket, but it's just something I'll have to live with.
Oh a BIG factor for me would be LTE. It supports it here in Asia, but I think it doesn't support LTE in the US? In that case, I think I would consider the One.
Between the GS4 and the One, I think the One is cooler

Yeah using it now in red colour on M1. What I did was to recontract for an iPhone 5, brought it down to mobilesquare, traded in and topped up for the butterfly s. All in all only paid $170, much better than paying the cut throat price of M1's.

I had to think about what OIS was. It's Optical Image Stabilization. I have both the One and Butterfly S and I hadn't noticed a difference. Actually, I took a shot with the S in pretty dim light and it was pretty sharp (although somewhat noisy but on par with the other phones or even better). So I would say it might not matter in real life terms. The camera settings still lets you choose "anti-shake" so I don't know why that is if there is no OIS.
But I'll tell you something funny, I think the S seems to expose the pictures better...
The S doesn't have the physical "wow" of the One when you pick it up, but in most things it is a more practical phone, so I prefer using it right now over the One.

Well, i'm glad i found this thread, as i just bought my HTC One Stealth Black yesterday and since i've already did my homework on which one to buy, compared to the Butterfly S, i wanted to share my views and opinions. By the way, i buy all my devices unlocked (international), so for me, carrier or 4G LTE availability is not an issue.
Butterfly S v/s One
Advantages of using the newer Butterfly S:
- Faster CPU (it's actually the exact same Snapdragon 600 as in the HTC One, but just overclocked and i believe there are apps which allow you to overclock your HTC One to boost it from 1.7 GHz to 1.9 GHz. The GPU stays the same with the Adreno 320 on both devices. On a side note, if HTC had implemented a Snapdragon 800 into the newer Butterfly S, it would have been a different story.)
- Bigger display (it's 5" versus HTC One's 4.7", which isn't a huge difference in my opinion. I've seen both phones side by side and given that you are sacrificing the One's industry-leading PPI record of 468 to Butterfly S's 441, i'd say you're not losing if you go with either one of them. But it's definitely very cool to say that you own the device with the highest PPI until now and probably till the end of 2013. Having a slightly bigger 5" display is not worth singing any praise about, unless you happen to own an Xperia Z Ultra with 6.44" - lol)
- Removable microSD storage (it's a trade-off with respect to the One, as you get half the amount of internal memory, which is faster than external memory and 32 GB is more than enough for the average user - i personally have 25 GB left on my One which i'm trying to fill up with some worthy 1080p movies and games)
- 3 capacitive buttons (versus the One's 2 buttons. OK, i admit i got a gripe with HTC due to this limitation, but then it's not exceptionally annoying and stressful that you can't live without. Double-tap more and get your fingers some exercise or just root and install the feature that enables your HTC logo to become a third capacitive button - problem solved!)
- Bigger battery (This seems to be the most common deciding factor for those considering to buy the best HTC phone (or simply put, the best phone) available right now. HTC One doesn't exhibit any particular weakness with its battery for the average user which lasts a day or more. But for heavy users or people who travel a lot, then the Butterfly S becomes the obvious choice. However, HTC One has a Power Saver mode which works really well, which i thought might be worth mentioning. Also, bigger battery means a beefier device which adds weight to your pocket. If you don't mind the extra weight and really need more juice to keep the lights on, then go for the Butterfly S)
- Gorilla Glass 3 (versus Gorilla Glass 2 on the One. This is not worth factoring into your decision to get either of these devices, as in my honest opinion, the strength of the Gorilla Glass 2 is already excellent by today's standards and Gorilla Glass 3 shatters just as Gorilla 2 in the exact same drop tests. I have yet to see a Gorilla Glass 3 device survive a drop test where a Gorilla Glass 2 device has failed in real life (not the testing done by Corning at the exhibitions where they have a simple piece of their newer glass under pressure from a clamp or dropping a metal ball on it and then tell you that the newer glass is better). Although i have to agree that having the latest glass on your device is always nice and comforting.)
Advantages of using the HTC One:
- Highest display resolution currently available on any smartphone.
- 32 GB internal memory (versus 16 GB on the Butterfly S) which is fastest when copying/loading/installing apps or games or anything else, for that matter.
- Gorgeous aluminium metal build (it gives the HTC One a unique look and feel among all other phones out there, including the plastic Butterfly S)
- Optical Image Stabilization in the One's camera (which is missing from the Butterfly S)
- And i've kept the best reason for last, which really gave me a huge push to go for the HTC One - since you're already on XDA, check out the forums for both of these devices and based on the number of threads and replies, you should easily be able to spot the big difference in developer support. Most importantly, there is the existence of the HTC One Google Edition. There is no (and never will have a) Google Edition for the Butterfly S. Basically, what does that mean? Don't expect anything other than minor updates and bug fixes once 2013 is over as HTC will obviously be backing its new line-up of 2014 flagship smartphones - but if you own an HTC One, you can ditch the stock ROM (by 2014, it'll be outdated when Sense 6.0 comes out and all of 2013's devices are left to run on Sense 5.x) and still stay at the forefront of the Android scene by rooting and installing the official HTC One Google Edition ROM, which works perfectly. There is no waiting time for XDA developers to adapt the GE ROM to your international HTC One. You can basically turn your HTC One with Sense into a 100% working HTC One Google Edition. Even OTA works! The other Google Edition phone (Galaxy S4, shhh) unlike HTC One, cannot benefit from a direct installation of its GE ROM variant (i9505G), as there are differences in hardware which requires an XDA developer to stitch things up and OTA doesn't work so you'll have to wait weeks or months after a new Android version is released before you can install a stable version of the latest pure Android ROM on your S4 (This applies only to the i9505 as the Exynos is a mess with missing drivers, but that's for another topic in another section of the forum).

In my case, the HTC One is definitely the one, since i ended up buying the HTC One over the Butterfly S. The difference in price between these two handsets is negligible considering that you're already going to spend a lot to get either the HTC One or the Butterfly S. But i have exhaustively discussed my point of view in my previous post above, so feel free to disagree if you feel that i was partial to the HTC One in my comparative analysis or if i missed any other important aspect(s) worth mentioning.

[Q] Note 3 / HTC One / Nexus 5

So I happen to have all of these devices right now either in person or on order and am really having trouble deciding which to keep. I use AT&T for all of them. I was wondering, I haven't seen any direct comparisons of these three in particular - so here are the pros of each that I've noted:
Note 3:
Sick screen size
Stylus
Battery life
HTC One:
Best build quality of any phone
Amazing screen
Incredible audio
Nexus 5:
Easiest to mod
Cool feel
Cheap?
Note 3 in particular has massive flaws like all the samsung garbage on it - and I have not yet been able to figure out how to safely mod the stupid AT&T version, which is crap. What are your thoughts on this and which would you stick with?

The Note 3 is easy to remove, so you can get rid of the bloatware. The only thing that sucks is that the bootloader is locked.

This has been hugely frustrating to me. As much as I like the phone it's a feature that's driving me nuts. I've even though about the Lumia 1520 just to get a sick size/quality screen. If only Windows phone was more competent...

The locked bootloader? It's bad, but I've come to like the stock firmware on the phone. There's no law at all, and I just removed the bloatware I don't like with root. J just hope that the bootloader will be unlocked by someone down the road. The battery life and beautiful screen make up for the locked bootloader for me.

This is exactly what I'm struggling with. If I hadn't gotten to taste 4.4 on my One and Nexus 5 I probably wouldn't care as much but I KitKat. To make things worse, I got my brother a Note 3 from Christmas so if I get rid of mine he'll be constantly reminding me of it and shaming me. Might have to stick with it though and I'm sure eventually someone will unlock the Bootloader anyway.

Note 3 is superior of the three right now. Bloatware is removable with Titanium Backup and root. Have multiview, gorilla glass 3, sd card slot (up to 64gb), and removable battery. Only thing wrong with it is, it doesn't feel natural in the hand, or you have to use two hands. Maybe its just me.
HTC One has great sound, yes but thats about it, but most of it seems like a gimmick because you have to enable the beats audio. I had one and had to be very careful with it because the phone was painted with anodized aluminium. Regardless of how careful i was, the screen had one little scratch and the paint chipped off. Sold it two days after I got it. Also, some application lagged for some reason.
Nexus 5 was my choice, because of stock and kitkat, but looking at the flaws made me decide to get a note 3. Flaws were, battery, camera, no sd card slot, no removable battery.
Besides, i mod my note 3 to look exactly like a Neuxs 5 with KitKat, with launchers, icons, fonts, status bar, etc.

Note 3/ HTC One owner. It's a matter of preference and there will be trade offs with any device.
The more lag/stutter free experience - HTC One ( Sense and the One is by far and away the better experience as far as this goes)
Unique software features- Note 3, again by far,over the One and any other phone/phablet
Screen- Toss up, both are exceptional
Build- The One obviously feels sturdy, but I replaced a few of them due to the speakers relentlessly blowing. Still, Samsung puts fake chrome trim on the phones which chips, cracks and dents. The One is better here.
Updates- Both stink. They are trying to make money, plain and simple. That said, neither company will rush to update your phone to the latest and greatest.
Dev support/tinker ability- Samsung and at&t = locked bootloader, this alone is why I just signed with at&t when the Note came out, but will be leaving in a few months. It's unacceptable. One crushes here.
Sound- obviously the One but the speakers are such garbage that I prefer the Note. I use headphones when I wanna hear music anyway
Battery life- The note 3 would win, but there are a lot of people (myself included) that are suffering some sort of wakelock on unrooted notes. Something is crushing my battery and Android OS stays awake 4-5 hours causing my battery to die in 10-11 hours of almost no use. HTC One wins here. It is simply unacceptable to still have apps and bloat causing wakelocks.
Bloat- I was with Sprint on the One so I'll do a combo here. Sprint/One is by far the better choice than Samsung/at&t. Samsung and at&t have forced so much bloat, apps taking up space, things running causing wakelocks..there is just a mess of crap on this phone that does god knows what.
Camera- both are great, both are annoying as well. They take too long to take good pictures. They both have issues focusing at times. When they both work correctly, it's even as far as quality, but Samsung smokes the One in the features category
All that being said. I prefer my Note and sold the HTC One, partly due to the fact that I've rolled with HTC since the Hero but have grown tired of the issues they're having, partly due to the unique software features the Note has. They both have glaring issues. It's a matter of which ones you choose to accept.

All that being said. It's not just Samsung phones that at&t is locking the bootloader on. The one x had a locked bootloader and I'm pretty sure their htc one does as well as it would follow suite

It's funny I should stumble across this thread. I'm looking at my Nexus 5 right now, struggling to find a reason not to send it back. I just switched back to my Note 3 and it has been freezing on me for no reason. And I have seriously been considering buying another HTC One because I really liked that phone and regret selling it.
For me, it's like this:

Apps/Accessories/Hardware compatibility is best - My fitbit, all new app updates, cases, etc.
Fast
Camera takes great photos and has great features
S Pen
Multi Window
Awkward to use one-handed
HTC One
Speakers are the bomb
Wonderful screen
Fast and fluid all the time
Love Sense as a skin
Camera is fast and has some great features, though not as robust as the Note 3
Good size for one-handed use
Camera does not produce great detail
Slow to charge
Nexus 5
Kitkat
Unlocked Bootloader
Fast and fluid
Great bargain
Camera is iffy. Camera app his horrendous. And I can't find a replacement app that I like.
Battery life has been disappointing
Screen is slightly washed out, especially compared to AMOLED screens and LCD screens like the G2 and HTC One
Speaker is pathetic
My current obsession is a phone that takes fast pictures. The Nexus 5 takes so long to focus and has such a slow shutter that every single picture I take of my dogs is blurry (they're always moving). The Note 3 doesn't have this issue and the HTC One snaps super fast photos as well. Also, the burst mode on the Note and One is great, second only to the iPhone 5s, in my opinion.
I have pretty much decided to send my Nexus 5 back to Google. I was set on replacing it with my Note 3, but then I started to get the random freezes and can't seem to pinpoint the cause. The One is looking mighty tempting right now, especially since I can land one in like-new condition for $300. I never had any problems with my One. I just wasn't thrilled by the photo quality (detail) and newer phones came out that caught my attention. I'm starting to think that I was hasty selling it.

I've a basic usage, i use my phone for SMS/call/twitter/facebook/(few) games/musique (with earphone)/(few) photos, and that's all I search a beautiful interface, because I HATE Android stock, it's very empty. So i search a beautiful interface with good features, i also search a very fast phone, and that's all because these 3 phone have an amazing screen/performance etc.
I like the HTC One because i think Sense is good, and i can't stay for the new HTC, but the One will have Sense 6.0 (with ROM custom) ? And the One is old..
I like the G2 for his screen, and his is new
And the Z1 for his camera

Pro and cons are allowed in one thread. but for comparisons between 2 or 3 phones, people will take this to serious and it will go out of hand fast. And anyway he put this in an HTC One forum why would take about how awesome another phone is because most of us don't have both phones anyway. But to answer the op the HTC One is the best!!!!

I have M7 and 'had' Z1, just recently sold it due to a few factors such as weight, poor screen viewing angles, ridiculous button placement, limited dev support and extremely average camera in low to medium light conditions. I cant say much about the G2 other than imo its fairly ugly looking.

It is just a little funny that we are alloud to compare eg. the camera of two phones, but to compare two phones is not...
Never mind...
I actually have both phones in the house, and have used the Z1 for two months as my own before i bought the ONE...
- and this is my thoughts on the subject...
Camera:
The Auto feature (point and shoot) of the Z1 is NOT working at all...
The manual function is working, but i think that most of us use auto function anyway...
A Little plus is that Z1 have a deticated camera button.
On the ONE, the auto "point and shoot" function works really great, but in this phone you really have to remember that it is only a 4mp camera nomatter that HTC try to call them ultra pixels...
Sony have at least the option to make a great camera down the line, as they at least have put in the hardware for it inside the phone...
Daily feel:
The Z1 is really fantastic pice of electronics, the glass/alu feel is really nice...
The viewing angle is not amazing, but i mostly use the phone when i look at it anyway, so that is NOT a real problem unless you really need to share your life at any moment with the World arround you, and then you could just turn your phone over to your friend anyway...
The edges arround the Z1 screen is simply much too wide thoug, with no function at all, just a lot of Black (or White or purple)...
Back and home is even onscreen, and not on the edge...
The water proof feature is really nice to have thoug, just wash the phone if it get dirty...
The processor in the Z1 feels supperior to the HTC by a lot, it feels like it have the power to do anything you want...
The ONE on the other hand is alu/plastic, and feels a little cheaper i think, but really nice compared to most phones anyway...
The ONE have a smaller size due to a Little smaller screen and much smaller edges, and it feels better in the hand when you hold it and use it...
- the Z1 is actually a little too big to type on or use it with one hand, and i have no small hands...
The edges on the ONE is much smaller arround the screen and i love that...
But the processor in the ONE actually feels less powerfull... you can actually feel it in daily use...
Sense or Xperia, i can´t really see the differense...
- both works fine, but the Xperia is perhaps a little closer to the pure Android feeling...
I have both in the house as i mentioned, and i have used both as my daily phone, but...
I would proberbly get the Z1 again (don´t hate me HTC ONE forum), but only IF the Z1 had a dual sim feature like my HTC ONE variant...
- i love the dual sim feature in my ONE variant, and THAT is the only reason i bought this phone!

Thank you very much, i've tested the Z1 in a store just 30 seconds, and i was REALLY blufed by the smooth of the phone, it's incredible, the G2 and the One aren't available for testing.. I don't open a game or other, just open the browser (Google Chrome) and scroll into the homescreen, this is very fast, so i think i will buy this phone, but i love Sense and i don't want wait 3 months for the new HTC.. The G2 is not very beautiful, so i pass on this phone. The Z1 have many problems (reviews from buyers), so, it's better i go on the HTC One who is a great value or the Z1 ? If i buy the One, will i have Sense 6.0 with ROM Cutom or Official updates ? Thank you all

Before this thread gets closed. Check out the Xperia Z1S. Newer, better and an IPS screen. Completely waterproof certified too (for 30 minutes). It comes to the US on January 22nd, and I'm completely on the fence on whether to stick with my One or get that.
