so, earlier this morning i got a call from an unknown local number which turned out to be my mom calling from a neighbor's house...the strange thing was that it showed the name of the caller. i disabled caller id name, was one of the first things i did when i first got the phone yesterday...but yet the name still showed up. is this normal in 4.4?
now, i've moved the caller id name app out of priv-app and created a new bak folder to completely get rid of it...will that stop this? i'm trying to get rid of all the bloat crap on the phone, this is step one (since i thought i had done it but then the name came up this morning).

Interesting problem this, it seems to have just started to happen out of the blue a few days ago.
The problem, in a nutshell, is that whatever I try to do, be it recreate the entries in the Address Book, create a duplicate entry with the same name, use the O2 Plus feature which lets you save a contact to your address book and make a new entry like that... Whatever I do, whenever I receive a new text message, the person's name isn't shown as the sender, just their mobile number in international format.
Even if I have that contact in my phone already, with their number in the same format as is shown on the text message (+447...), their name doesn't show at all. It's really starting to annoy me, as I've not added or removed anything to my XDA and yet this problem isn't going away.
Argh! Anybody have any ideas as to what's wrong? I might ring O2's oddly-named Data Support and quiz them about this tomorrow, too...
Cheers again everyone,
Christopher
When you search the forum for "CallerID" you'll find a few people asking about the same problem, mainly when receiving calls however not SMS' and some suggestions.
Do you have photos attached to your contacts? I'd try reinstalling the CallerID_Alpine_... from your Extended_Rom, if all fails it might be easiest to restore a backup (if you got one that is).
hth,

I did some further testing today, borrowed a mate's phone and rang mine... Bizarre, the first time my phone was rung, it would take approx. 30 seconds for the name of the caller to show, the number showed up fine though. Subsequent dials would result in the name showing up almost instantly (as usual)...
.... Veeeeeeery odd. I'll just dash off and try reinstalling this CallerID cab...
as soon as the call connects the stored name number appears
not a major headache but id like to know who im speaking to b4 i answer it
anyone help on this one cheersy alll ??
If you would like to see picture comes with the contact, or big pic in the caller ID, u can use Inesoft phone (not free) , or other programs...
ideally a name would help ive got that many numbers stored i cant remember them all is there another option to inesoft??
i was kinda hoping it would be say sony ericsson based and show you both names and numbers whilst receiving a call but it does'nt
After trying to attend a movie last night and having my phone vibrate the snot out of my pocket i have a question regarding the name display feature of the SGS.
Now i know my provider supports it as when i am recieving a call it displays the name if it is not in the contacts list. But what i am wondering is if it stores that name somewhere. Its kind of pointless to have the feature when 50% of its use is none functional.
If the SGS doesn't store the number is there a hack or a app that can be applied to store these missed call names? TIA!
that is a very good question.
i know in Fido/Rogers we have to paid extra for that display name feature (even when not in your address book)
i can almost bet it doesn't store the name displayed, as if you look at the phone log, it will only display the phone number without the name

The feature is included in my plan. I was actually quite shocked that it doesn't store the name. Just the number. There has to be some mod to store the name as well. The information is captured by the device when the call is incoming so it has to be able to be grabbed by some other app.
I'll like that, i wonder if any Dev have created an App for that
So, I deleted a few bloatware apps that I realize I needed to adjust--however, it is too late. I needed to turn the "Caller ID" app off before deleting it. Every time I get an incoming call, it tries to show me the caller ID as a "Network Message" pop-up.
Could someone be as nice as to send me the "CallerID" application from their Verizon phone? It's the application with a green icon and I think it says "id" on it. I can't remember. Hehe.
I really appreciate it!
Come on. I know one of you guys has it.
I've been using the One for a few months, it's running the latest, unmodified OS.
Yesterday I noticed the call history is full of 'Unknown' blank numbers. To clarify - I take a call, when I finish the call enters the history as a blank entry, with name 'Unknown, and NO NUMBER showing for the call.
Looking through the list, it's happened to most incoming calls.
It never used to do this until yesterday.
I'm wondering what's changed! Why would it start to do this?
Any help appreciated!

Thanks Yatindroid, I tried all that, but the first call I made it happened again. A true record of the call in the history, and alongside it a blank verson
Unknown Caller ID

which android version you are having ?? if it is 4.4.2 u will not face this Unknown ID issue.
only the 4.4.3 update made issues for caller ID which doesn't recognize the country code of that related country service provider. when you remove the country code it will show the correct ID but then the Viber/Whatsapp/Line will not recognize the number without the Complete phone number.
you can by pass this by going the Gmail > Settings > Phone numbers: Default country code: "put a country you will never visit"

Thanks for the responses guys - I actauly fixed this yesterday, but thinking what it was I recently installed when this started... and uninstalling it! It was the Klick app (Cheap eBay version of the 'Pressy' Button!)
Uninstalled it and now it behaves fine.
BTW The Klick button is sort of OK, you can set it to launch an app, ie the camera, but intuitively then you expect it to also operate the camera, which it doesn't. Plus setting it to operate even when the screen is locked (as you would probably want, for instant-access) of course means I was always finding I'd knocked it.
So a good idea, but not really that functional. plus caused a glitch with my phone history!
Also HTC headset fix app causes it in 4.4.3 - it adds empty number socdouble click doesn't recall on headphones!
