I've been using the One for a few months, it's running the latest, unmodified OS.
Yesterday I noticed the call history is full of 'Unknown' blank numbers. To clarify - I take a call, when I finish the call enters the history as a blank entry, with name 'Unknown, and NO NUMBER showing for the call.
Looking through the list, it's happened to most incoming calls.
It never used to do this until yesterday.
I'm wondering what's changed! Why would it start to do this?
Any help appreciated!

Thanks Yatindroid, I tried all that, but the first call I made it happened again. A true record of the call in the history, and alongside it a blank verson
Unknown Caller ID

which android version you are having ?? if it is 4.4.2 u will not face this Unknown ID issue.
only the 4.4.3 update made issues for caller ID which doesn't recognize the country code of that related country service provider. when you remove the country code it will show the correct ID but then the Viber/Whatsapp/Line will not recognize the number without the Complete phone number.
you can by pass this by going the Gmail > Settings > Phone numbers: Default country code: "put a country you will never visit"

Thanks for the responses guys - I actauly fixed this yesterday, but thinking what it was I recently installed when this started... and uninstalling it! It was the Klick app (Cheap eBay version of the 'Pressy' Button!)
Uninstalled it and now it behaves fine.
BTW The Klick button is sort of OK, you can set it to launch an app, ie the camera, but intuitively then you expect it to also operate the camera, which it doesn't. Plus setting it to operate even when the screen is locked (as you would probably want, for instant-access) of course means I was always finding I'd knocked it.
So a good idea, but not really that functional. plus caused a glitch with my phone history!
Also HTC headset fix app causes it in 4.4.3 - it adds empty number socdouble click doesn't recall on headphones!

Did you do some type of back up? Using what? What Rom are you using? Under Diamond Tweak and/or advanaced Config click on hide sim contacts.
texting
hi,
i have already cleared the sim and contacts and then gone on to enter back on to contacts, it still doesnt work.
i have had my phone for a week now.
maybe tmobile will eventually update this on the next rom update if possible?
but is there not an application to sort this out that i could get hold off?

UPDATE: IT WORKS!!
how'd you know?
thats so weird too because i have no contacts on my sim..
right on man thanks
Actually I have a similar issue.
Stock T-Mobile MDA Vario IV
All contacts saved to phone memory, in the 07 format.
Incomming calls show the callers name if in contact list, all text messages show +447 number instead of 07 number and no name.
If contact is changed to +447 then texts show contact name, but incoming calls only show number :S
Any Ideas on a resolution?
I had the same problem after I installed the official HTC ROM update that was released mid Feb. I noticed that for my contact numbers here in the US, if the number didn't have a 1 before the contact's number, it would not recognize the number in my contact list. after i went thru all my contacts (a MAJOR PAIN IN THE A$$) and added the 1 before all the numbers, all my contacts' names appear again. not sure if that helps...
there with you guys. also on tmobile stock rom.
all my contacts are in outlook. ( not sure if that is on phone or mem card.)
but texts come thru with +44 and my phone doesnt recognise them. i am currently haveing to save the new numbers but when i sync on my pc. it reverts to the old ones coz i sync pc to phone.
seems to be generically vbe a tmobile vario 4 issue.
I have the same problem and I'm on Orange but I decided to try the NEW SWIFTBL WWE DIAMOND ROM V7.5 so this might be causing the same problem.
I am going to try the newer update from Orange to see if that will work.
Mines has been showing "unknown caller" along with the telephone number when I call my mobile from my home phone and the messages are just showing up with the number.
This problem has been bugging me from the last few months but I didnt realize that there may be a solution to this until I seen the amount of posts for tweaks on here.
I am nearly fed up with the phone...I just began enjoying this new ROM that I put on it coz my last Orange one was apparently an old one.
Will let you all know how it goes.

Just to let you all know that I updated with WM6.1 WWE CE OS 20764, Build 20764.1.4.3, V2.6 Full, UC Ready ROM and it seems to have worked a treat...all my numbers are showing names now and I have a much faster phone with additional positive tweaks.
It has a slider on screen on it too that you must slide to the left to answer or right to ignore...this ensures that it will not mistakenly get answered in the pocket.
Highly Recommended!
All Credit Goes to swtos and you can find the link for the lite and full versions here.
Peace.
been a while since i ran into this...
But I do believe there's a registry setting that is used to determine how many trailing numbers are used to identify contacts.. if you drop it by a number or 2 it should still work, and may solve that '1' not being there..
wish I could remember where I saw this registry setting...
Anyway, I don't really run into this issue, but I'm using ROMeOS... and all my numbers I went through and manually edited on my exchange account to always be in the (xxx) xxx-xxxx format, including formatting. Every number shows fine -- But I also have no SIM contacts (with exchange backup and spare phones with backups I don't see the need, it just seems to confuse things)
now showing all contaacts
i finally resolved this and posting back on the thread i read bb lee post.
that is what i did.
if you do advanced config there is an option use X number of trailing numbers to identify numbers i have set this to 10 this will then recognise regardless of +44 or 0.
anyone else try this and let me know if it resolves yours too.

I am getting this some what unique problem while receiving SMS that in sender number all zeros are replaced with "D". While receiving in notification it shows "D" in place of "0" & after reading in inbox it appear as "d". Due to this i am not able to know who sent me the msg untill I check by replacing all "D" with "0".
I tried differes SMS apps but the result is same. I am not able to figure out the reason.

Foreign language? Maybe you need a language installed on your phone to render the characters for your texting.

I am not able to figure it out. It has been working fine & still working fine. Since last 10 days only I am facing this weird problem.
Even the messages I send, there also the contacts & message threads appears fine. All old sms threads appears fine.
But all new messages coming from the same contacts behaving like this. Except receiving no where i have any such issue (Calling/SMS sending).
And also this happens only with "0" not any other digit.
I tried to uninstall MoreLocale & reinstall, change language etc. Please suggest if I shall try something different.
Modify Country & IDD in assisted dialing
Till now I am not able to resolve this.
Also I have found that I cant send SMS to friends whose contact I have stored with country code ie +91 92121****1.
But I am able to call them.
I checked assisted dialing and found that My country is showing India but IDD is showing 00. And the option is freezed & there is no option to change/modify it.
Is there any other way to change it by modifying some system file.

You'll have to open build.prop and edit it. My suggestion would be to get Root Browser or something along those lines and change it that way.

Hello.
I am reading through the forum to find a solution for my lg 4x, but there is nothing written about it.
So here is the problem. When somebody is calling me i am only seeing the number and no name under it (like its not saved in the phone). But for some calls (just few) i can see the name and the number. All numbers are stored the same way: +*** **** ***** (international way).
Any suggestion what i can do so i will see names for all my stored numbers?
phone not rooted, v10h on it.

already did, but didnt help. I will try with some settings: caller ID or whats that in menu. I'll report tomorow
I think its solved now... I just changed this: Caller ID (settings -> Call -> Additional settings -> Caller ID. Changed it to enabled and than back to network default. After this i removed my SIM and battery and restarted the phone.
Why till now HTC still have this issue that contact won't recognise if you just dial the number instead of the full format you save on your contacts. On Samsung and iPhone don't have this issue. Can HTC solve this?
Please refer to the attached picture for more details.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Mine works fine, whatever format I type the numbers or the name. Slightly confused.

OK.. Example, i saved a contact under phone TEST - +601234567890 , So when i went into phone dialing, i enter 1234567890 the number without country code, it won't recognize or display contact TEST, unless i have to enter +601234567890 full format as what i have saved then it will show.

it works for me eg my contact is saved a +312012345678 and when I dial 02012345 it will show my contact, as far as I know this has worked since my desire days. HTC dialer has always been the best for me, being able to search by first, last name and by number in short and long format (iirc the sgs2 couldn't search by last name)...
(edit, I don't know where you are from but is 12345678 a valid number to dial from a mobile phone, we always have to dial an area code first)

I am from Malaysia. The number on the screenshot are just example. Our country code are +6 , so my number format are +601112333345. I just tested it again and also not working. Another number format are friends from Brunei, number format +673 8888888 as +673 country code. Also not showing if i key 8888888, unless 6738888888.
I am having a interesting issue with my phone that I cannot figure out. When I receive a text message the system adds a +1 to the start of the phone number it is coming from, I am using the Samsung Messages application but this does the same thing apparently with the Google SMS app and the Verizon messenger app (as I have\ tried these as well), this only happens with a text and if I get a phone call or look in the address book no numbers have a +1.
The reason this is an issue is because my car imports my phonebook as it appears in the contacts and when I get a text it comes up as Unknown Caller because of the added +1 but phone calls do not have the +1 so they show up just fine.
While working on this I have discovered that if I go to the text by going to my contacts then clicking on the persons name it will remove the +1 and it will stay removed as I text them but the second I get texted back the +1 is added. I called Verizon eventually and was told reset settings, reset network settings, turn off assisted dialing. None of these work and there next solution was to factory reset, I don't think this will help because it isn't just my phone but my wife and son who also got the same phone have the same thing happen.
Has anyone experienced this and know how to fix it. I have been through all the phone and dev settings looking for something. I cannot find any other threads online for this except for a couple from AT&T users from different samsung phones years ago with no answer. Previous to this we were using Note 9's and did not have this issue. Any help is appreciated.
edit: The phone is not rooted or modded and is on Android 11 One UI 3.1, sorry forgot to add that.
I think it's under: Settings -> Call Settings -> Other call settings -> Roaming assistance

That is assisted dialing I turned off already and it didn't affect it. It's also just on text messages phone functions don't have this happen for some reason.
The +1 is your coumtry code prefix (USA).
While you can change this in your messaging app you can't change it from eveyone else's phone.
From using it in your car radio might be somethng in your car settings or else in your contact list add the +1 to all your contacts.

I understand that the +1 is the country code.
It isn't from other people's phones it is the way the Ultra is handling the information when it comes to text messaging. I did the following test. I removed my son as a contact in my phone and called my phone from his. The phone number shows up as (xxx) xxx-xxxx. I then sent a text message to myself from his phone while he still was not in my contacts. I have 3 different text applications on my phone right now for testing purposes (default Samsung, Google's SMS app, and Verizon Messeages) and all 3 shows the phone number as +1 (xxx) xxx-xxxx.
The car isn't adding the the +1 to contacts, when my phonebook syncs to the car and I go into it the phonebook on my cars display they show the same as in my contacts "Contacts Name" (xxx) xxx-xxxx but when a text comes in it shows Unknown +1 (xxx) xxx-xxxx.
The issue solely lies with text messages being received on the S21 Ultra as this happens when people on Apple phones or Android phones (multiple brands) text me.
In regards to text messaging in general, i live not far from you ( about 9500 miles ) and I have a different device then yours. Receiving text messages from someone in my contacts list shows up contact name. Receiving other text message not in my contact list will show as country code and phone number. There are exceptions to this in regards to texts from government agencies and google which will show up who are not in my contacts list. I think texts messaging work around the international standard ie: country code + phone number while phone calls may not (unless making international calls). So i don't think it's device specific as it more to do with the networks that you connect to.
In regards to talking to you car ( text wise ) i may be of little help as i don't have a android 11 device and a car to talk to.
Since your note 9 works, and as far as i know latest version is android 10, it could be an issue with android 11. From your test using your son's phone have tried to add the +1 to his number to your phone and see if it's make a difference.
