So i recently semi-bricked my droid 4 and had to SBF back to stock. The thing about this is that i can't run RAZR blade from my computer, as i don't have one atm. i used my Nexus 7 and a USB-otg cable (it is rooted). ADB isn't possible using my Nexus. Is there a way i can manually root using RAZR Blade? i'm aware that it would probably be a difficult process, but i'm willing to work with it.
Also, can a mod move this to the Questions category? i just realized that this was in the wrong category.
It may be easier to just borrow a friend's computer for 10 mins.....or even try the library and see if you can get them to boot the USB first. It seems the root apps come and go so there may be one currently available but there wasn't when I rooted a couple months ago.

I rooted my phone the manual ADB way with my Linux box. I'm having problems with the phone, and going to exchange it, just need to wipe it and unroot it before I do so. I have reflashed thecubed stock Rom on it, and flashed the stock recovery image using Revo Toolkit, now I need to get root off, and I can't find anything other than people saying about SuperOneClick which is windows.
Any help? Thanks
if you simply exchanging it i doubt root would matter. the verizon store in my town almost every person in there working has both their personal and work phone rooted and nobody blinks a eye.
Just delete super user using root explorer. They really don't care. I have sent back 4 eris' and 1 fascinate rooted just super user gone and never had a problem. Actually my fascinate still had a rom, and cwm installed on it and never a problem.
Yeah. I just want to be careful since I'm on a business plan, however i did manage to get it off with ny virtualbox using SuperOneClick so no worries. I was just having problems getting the web driver installed correctly on it at first but it finally took

The Verizon employees don't care. And when you mail them in for replacement they go back to the manufacturer and are reflashed and restocked as FRUs. I understand your being cautious but just giving you the info to ease your mind. I worked there for six years.
My Nexus 7 should be arriving soon, and since this is not my first Android but is my first Nexus device, I have a question for others out there: is it a good idea to install CWM on a Nexus device if you primarily want to use stock ROMs? Vanilla Android is one of the major draws to me (I may want to install CM10 at some point when it's stable), so would I be better off rooting it and not touching the recovery partition so I can receive the latest updates?
I know rooted stock ROMs crop up very quickly, but I'm kinda looking forward to just receiving the updates rather than having to wait till I get home to flash a new update.
Why not? What's the downside of installing CWM?
I've rooted and customized my other devices, but I like the N7's software as-is. I'm not installing cwm.

I prefer TWRP over CWM.
If you want to stay stock all the way, you don't need to. If you start to feel differently, you can always go back and do it.

I don't own an Android device that doesn't have CWM installed.
The thing with Nexus devices is that Google releases factory images for the devices so its easy to always go back to stock for whatever reason via fastboot. So if you want to try out CWM there will be no harm in the future with it if you decide to go back to stock.
I'm pretty new to this, but for what it's worth, I rooted and CWModded my N7. I removed the CWM, because it wouldn't allow me to update to 4.1.1. I had to go back to stock recovery, then it worked.

weird.
i got mine on monday. unlocked and rooted and installed CWM with the toolkit.
the next day OTA hits and its updated.
CWM all the way.
What I did was stick with stock recovery. If I want to make a nandroid backup I use temporary CWM, which you can invoke from a root toolkit and usb cable. It goes back to stock after rebooting, works out well really.
I wouldn't have because custom recovery just makes it harder to get OTA updates. Stock recovery is fine since my device is backed up on the cloud anyway.
However I ended up putting TWRP on it since the stock recovery stinks so bad. It doesn't work (or any of them) unless your computer is plugged to your Nexus. This is a known issue but Google hasn't announced a fix. I've also found that my updates would fail also. I got the Android picture with a triangle above it. I don't know what messed my stock recovery up but at any rate once that was done I went ahead and put something else on here to enable me to flash roms.
Short answer -- don't bother changing it, there's no need.
CWM!
cwm and Paul's jr6. Without his rom u lose features being rooted. Paul patched it up so you don't lose features, and it still feels totally stock.

@Trickee360 Simple solution. Its a Nexus. Meaning its very easy and simple to work with. Push your choice recovery image using fastboot, do a backup and flash supersu. U wanna go stock for an ota, simple do a restores to your backup. Root again flash the supersu zip. Super easy. Nexus isn't like all those devices that have all the crap on em and u have to use a 3rd party deal then wait and if u look at it wrong it bricks..lol. none of that. This is the real deal. Another reason ill only ever own Nexus. Its all on youtube. How to install sdk (qbking77) how to root ---same root method as galaxy nexus.
★To have a Nexus device and not root is against the law. If u get caught u will have to pick up trash on the side of the road for 2000 hrs. ;-P I bet the majority of u guys saying no root now will have it rooted by next mo.
I won't be rooting, I don't think. I have rooted every Android device I have owned, but I am very satisfied with the stock experience.

I unlocked and rooted after unboxing and I'm so glad I did. Its amazing what this tablet can become when you start tapping into its potential with refined custom software.

I come from an eris phone where you wipe and flash roms all day long. Well I got my bionic from android market wiped and flashed 2.2 eclipse using rom manager and laptop with no issues using rsdlite. From what I have read here I should not have been able to do this, no bootstrap or safestrap. Is it possible I have an unlocked bootloader?

This makes me wonder if ROM Manager has actually managed to include some Bootstrap-like functionality to accommodate locked bootloader devices.
If you wanted to truly test if your bootloader were unlocked, you could go manually download CWM recovery for the Bionic and then, when booted into Fastboot mode, use fastboot.exe to see if you can invoke the command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img. At worst case, you have a bricked Bionic and have to RSD Lite it back to normal. Otherwise you could get access denied. At best case it works out.
Also, Bionics aren't sold via the Android Market. Where did you actually get it from?
RSD Lite shouldn't ever be a problem on any Motorola device. All Moto devices are made to respond to RSD Lite assuming you have the correct SBF or FXZ fie.
Sorry got bionic from Android Central

Good ol Droid Eris. I loved that thing, but the manufacturing sucked and I went through 6 of them before Verizon finally gave me a Droid 2 as a replacement. But the Roms, I haven't had an Android like it since. I got kind of spoiled on Roms and went through flash withdrawal after it. From my understanding, many former Eris owners also went through withdrawal since our newer ones had no where close to that much development. I may end up buying a used one just to flash around with. I swear I had my old one running better than most people's Droid 2s thanks to xda.

I rooted my phone a while ago using Motofail and would like to update my phone so I can put the ICS update on it that was pushed out the other day. I am kinda a noob to hacking my phone and would really like some help with this. I have found the Motofail for ICS for once I install ICS.

This guy has a lot of tutorials on YouTube & needed files for you to download

Just download and install all parts of House of Bionic and follow the on-screen instructions. In order to un-root you need to choose option 2 then option 2 again. Check out the FAQ if you have trouble with ADB. Read the post very carefully and probably more than once but it is actually very simple.

Thanks Samuri for this script, I have been telling everyone about it. Cheers!
?
does anyone know if the apps that hide the root will work or do I have to completely unroot the phone?
rooting the phone
as you most likely know motofail will root the phone, settings applications unknown sources, development usb debugging i also check leave screen on, then when usb is plugged in make sure charge only, have a good charge also on yer battery, if in 7 right click on motofail run as admin
i also like to have wifi already going and download root checker, this verifies, sometimes, dunno why, when i go to one rom or another i have to use one version of motofail or another version of it, also motooneclick worked for me also,
either way that'll get your phone rooted, i haven't done anything with ics, i did see a version of motofail for rooting ics afterwards
i'm on eclipse 2.2 which i just love, need anything else gimme hollar, skype allen-sec or yahoo allensecz
learning the bionic and this myself, been at it for about a month, learned a lot, just don't have 3g flowing yet,
so if you got that going on yours, hey gimme hollar
sincerely, mrbeav
Bare with please
I asked in a different thread but I got some things answered but not all exactly.
I keep hearing if I want to unroot my Bionic I need to use all the HoB files or FXZ. I will explain why I'm still a little confused.
I used Razrs Edge to root my bionic earlier this week after the OTA ICS update. Worked in like 3 minutes and put safestrap v3.05 on and made a backup of my stock OS. I want to restore and then remove safestrap but I'm confused on how to unroot. Since all the unroot methods seem to be based around HoB or motofail or using the Pete's files (which the links never seem to work)
What i need/want answered is how do I unroot it if I used the Razrs Edge method of rooting? With one of the methods i mentioned above work? If so, which one please and will i just follow the same method?
My reasoning is when/if JB OTA comes out I want to unroot to get it so i figured since I'm involved now, I might as well learn how to unroot it now and get it over with.
Thanks
Eric
You may want to try OTA Rootkeeper. You can find it on Google Play.

I did this and it worked!
I just started using SuperSU, which has a clean up root option. Seems pretty slick so far.

Hey just bought a RAZR for my girlfriend..
The person I bought it of have rooted and installed dual boot on it wich my girlfriend has no use off. But he don't know how to remove it and get it back to standard..
I'm new on RAZR but Used to root samsung devices, so hope some of you can help...
Wrong Forum, you should have an look into the OG RazR Forum.
I recommend you to get the right Fastboot File for your Region (Asia/EU/Verizon/CN).
www.sbf.droid-developers.org
Verizon (USA) is XT912
The Rest is XT910/XT909
Grap you RSD Lite and flash it back to stock. Charge your battery before that and only use ICS Fastboots, because you'll brick by using GB Files. After that make an FR in recovery and format the internal sd after the first boot. You'll get an phone like out of the box
There's an pinned Thread for RSD (Motorola Tools) or google it
