So, I have a problem with my z1 original headphones as I said in the title. Problem is that my left earplug is working but it is very quiet compared to the right earplug. I had the same problem with my first original headset so I changed them, and now, again, the same problem.
P.S. Both were working correctly for about a 4-5 days..
Anyone knows whatvis the problem?

I had the same problem with the same hearphones (handset). After few hours of listening music the right earplug go down to very low volume, very quiet, to finish to not working at all. It's a faulty handset and via warranty I replace it. You definitely should do the same.
Yes, I replaced them but with the new earphones I had the same problem..

Try different headphones, if the problem persist that mean is the phone, or the jack of the phone but still the phone anyway.
Check also in settings if there is a balance option, maybe is not set up properly. I don't know if that option there is or not because at the moment I don't have the phone with me.

Got this problem from 3-4 days. During a call, the EAR speaker stops working. Though speaker works. I think it's a problem with software as ear speaker works sometimes.

Also WiFi of Xperia Z takes longer than other phone to connect to my router. Also I get more Wi-Fi drops than any other phones in my home including Nokia X6. Any solution?

my xperia z has the same problem, but mine when i press on the ear speaker the sound is back and it is back to work.
i think the problem is in the hardware.
sorry i don't have the solution but i asked sony customer care about my problem and they said to take to sony service shop
I have exactly the same issue - very intermittent though.
Been happening since the 4.3 update (so last 3/4 days also).
I've just done a wipe of the cache partition to see if that helps. If it doesn't, it'll be a full wipe
Failing that, and I'm really hoping it won't come to this, but I'll have to see if Sony will honour the warranty based on me buying from another country.
All all the things my phone can do - I can't now make a call without being on loudspeaker (or having the headset plugged in!)
Edit: No, still having the same issue - will try a full wipe and report if I find out anything new
water inside had the same pb..
Not been anywhere near water, so not that.
Done a full wipe & restore, but still have the issue intermittently.
I'll have to see if Sony will repair it - tricky I imagine given I purchased it in a different country.
Probably hardware related...
When this problem occur I twist my phone (literally pry it) then the speaker start to work again...
Seems like there a bad connection between speaker and motherboard...

I have the same problem and its related to 4.4 stock firmware, on 4.3 or 4.4 non stock rom the earspeak work perfect
Have same problem, earspeaker stop working and I can only make a call using the loudspeaker or a headset. If I install Smart Connect it shows that a Headset is connected, but there are no headset connected. What I also noticed ist that the microfon also not working in Video recording, etc. only in a call with loudspeaker its working.
I've had the same problem - it's hardware problem... Sony service was not able to set the problem (how stupid is that!) and I've been to another service (my phone is still under warranty) and payed - they replaced the whole air speaker... There's a major number of people who have that problem
It's a model problem... My Xperia z problems: death pixels, unglued backcover, problem wirh ear speaker and problem with proximity sensor....
Unfortunately for me Sony are no longer option when I choose a new smartphone...

I have the earspeaker problem as well for a few month now. After trying different ROMs (CM, RR, Omni, stock) I figured out the speaker works occasionally when I press and twist different spots on the backside a little bit.
At the moment my phone is at a service shop. I hope they will fix that annoying problem.
Sry if i resume that post But it's important :3
Be Careful before send your Phone at customer service for earspeaker substitution, The 80% of earspeaker issues are software (look The thousand of People that's changed earspeaker and have again The same issue in few month).
The constants in almost all The users affected by that problem are: They use sony's walkman and The Phone stop working properly because Android detect AN Headset in The audio jack.
So i try To disabile sony's integrate walkman (uninstall updates and disable application) and "musica in movimento" (in english i suppose is music on trip?).
Result: i can't hear Nothing for earspeakers.
As my Last ship i try a New music player Whit call interrupt function (Aimp). Headset ok, i disconnettere th jack, The song pause, Nice, try To play It without Headset: all work fine (do that thing, It probably permanently fix The issue). Now I'm using that Phone for work and at The moment It Seems work properly (i found that workaround only 3 days ago so is not fully tested)... If someone want try i need some feedback
P.s. I Hope i explain myself quite Well, I'm not english and Write long messages With italian spellcheck is a bloodbath :|
So, about 24h ago, my phone lost the ability to dispense and intake sound. Just like that. A peculiar thing is that only audio jack works.
I didn't drop it or hit it or damaged it in any way, nor did anyone else, the phone was with me all the time. It just stopped playing the sound whether it's a ringing or sms or a notif of any kind. Music don't play on speaker, and when a call happens, there is absolutely no sound on either end of the line.
I did a factory reset and a V20b reflash and everything else and... nothing helped
Is it a hardware fault?

looks like a hardware fault to me, but it could be something pretty simple. It sounds like your saying the mic died also? this would narrow the issue down if so.
Did you have headphones plugged in before the issue?

Yes, the mic died, too, because when called, the person on the other end gets no sound whatsoever from my part. It's the same the other way around, which is strange since the mic and ear speaker are on the opposite sides of the phone. What takes out both of them + the main speaker?
I recorded a film with camera while a moderate music played in the room, but there's nothing but crackling.

Yes, maybe 3 hours before I noticed the problem the first time. I listened to music while outside.
If you're aiming at the phone thinks it has earphones always connected, it's not that. The phone clearly registers when they are plugged in and when they aren't by displaying, or not, the earphones icon in the notifbar.
Sounds like a weired issue to me. Once it happened, did you reboot the phone after this isue occured?
If I remember correctly, my old phone (not this one) had exactly same issue, I think rebooting and clearing cache and stuff (not sure if factory reset) fixed the issue. Worth a shot before going to fix the hardware
It's happened to me many times on my last Sony phone. Just keep jamming the headphones in and out and it should clear, the phone still thinks they're plugged in

Yes, a few times. Factory reset and V20b reflash, too (It was on official 4.1.2 anyway), and wiped all the partitions from boot menu.

As I stated in my previous post, phone detects the headphones the normal way when they are plugged in and displays the headphones icon in notification bar, and removes it when I pull them out. Furthermore, music players pause/stop playing the moment the phones are unplugged.

Thanks, I'll have a look, but I'm not really sure what I can or should do.
The thing is, the phone is under a year old and has warranty, so I elect not to open it by myself... yet. Just don't want to leave it at the shop where it'll most certainly spend at least 10 days before anyone even looks at it (because of Easter and International Workers' Day). I'm also baffled by the fact that the ear speaker on top of the phone doesn't work. If it were just the bottom part, I would've gotten a replacement and switched it myself (one part holds both), but it's obviously something more complicated than that and I don't dare to discover what on my own.
In any case, I'll see what I can do about the problem after the holidays and I'll keep you apprised of the outcome.
Epilogue: The motherboard was faulty and they gave me a new phone.
I was on CM12.1 earlier this morning. Suddenly I realised that my earpiece is not working while on calls. Neither did the screen turned black in effect of proximity sensor while on call. So I right away flashed stock to check whether its a hardware or software issue.
Digging more into the problem I could make out that its not the earpiece that is damaged but its the phone that thinks the headphone is still connected. I used an app called SoundAbout to check the media output. And it was confirmed that headphones is used for media output. Then I checked playing a song, it didnt through loudspeaker which also confirms that phone is detecting the headphone is plugged in while it is not.
Below I upload the screenshot of that app called SoundAbout which I used to find the problem. Sorry for such a long post.
Any help, suggestion, or any strange or extraordinary experience that could help?
Any help is appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!

Well if you are using SoundAbout why don't you then select where you want the sound to come out from? Isn't that the whole point of that app?
Also dunno about your proximity sensor issue but my phone suffers from similar ear piece issues as well and the issue crops up sporadically so I am still not sure sure its completely a hardware issue. I spent months looking for a solution but was finally about to hand it in for repairs when I the came upon the strangest solution somewhere. Here's what I do when this happens -
Plug my headphones in
Make a call
When you can hear anything in the headphones (call being connected, recipient's voice...heck just dial a non existent no. so you can hear the operator say it doesnt exist, any sound at all) , pull the headphones out and the sound comes out the earpiece.
I know it sounds silly but it works for me. It might not work the first time but after a couple of tries, it always does. Till date the only workaround I have found to this issue albeit a temporary one. Lasts me a few weeks before it happens again. Rinse and repeat.
One of these days I am gonna bite the bullet and hand it in for repairs. Remember reading someplace that this could be because some chip or something that supposed to switch sound depending on the task fails to do so though I am talking from memory here and this might be completely inaccurate.

i saw some users have the same problem actually ....try to plug and unplug it several times and see what happens
and clean your headphone input plug then reboot ....if any of that didn't help then repair it
None of the above method worked for me. I will send it for repair very soon. Till then I will use the app to manually route audio to loudspeaker.

Actually the issue is called stuck in headphone mode. If you google it there are a number of methods to solve it. One of those you could try out is http://forums.webosnation.com/webos...37-stuck-headset-mode-permanent-easy-fix.html
Go to a hardware store, pick up a tube of graphite powder for around $3.
1) Gently squeeze a couple puffs of graphite powder into headset jack.
2) Turn phone upside down to let excess fall out.
3) Grab a pair of headphones and insert/remove them several times.
4) Enjoy your new, permanently fixed phone.
Im planning to try this out. Even u can!!!!!!!!!
I will report soon

Lol graphite powder?! Will pencil shavings do?

I am still not able to solve the issue.. i can clearly hear sound when i am on call with loudspeaker enabled but i cant hear anything from loudspeaker or earpiece otherwise. I am seriously getting frustrated with this issue now. will repair solve the issue?. what do you guys suggest?
As the title saids. The reason to do so is my phone "thinks" that an earphone is connected, but there's actually no earphone connected. Now all the audio are played with the "earphone that doesn't exist", that means the speaker won't play anything other than alarms.
I searched for solution, and found an app called "headset toggle" on Google Play. It allowed me to play music with the back speaker, but that's useless. What annoys me is that when I receive a phone call, the audio is also played with the "earphone that doesn't exist". I wonder if anyone knows how to force the audio in phone calls to play with front speaker.
Btw I'm using cm12.1, so I do have root. I've also tried flashing different roms, even stock rom to see if it's a software issue, unfortunately it's not.
Also I've found a "front speaker only mod" here but the download link is broken. If anyone have downloaded it before can you share a copy to me?

Thanks for the suggestion. But I wanted to see if there's any software that allows me to switch between earphone and speaker mode. The phone could still play sounds through earphone after I plug one in, but it thought I still have an earphone connected after I remove the earphone.
Didn't quite understand what's an "earpiece jack" btw. Did you replace the whole earpiece of the phone?

It's a common problem with XSP headphone's socket, and to solve this simply play any sound file then keep plug and unplug the headphone jack till you hear sound from the loud speaker.

Seems like a software issue. Try this app SoundAbout from google store. For me i wasnt getting any sound from earpiece and from back speaker as well. But while playing with the sound settings, i got the sound working on m back speaker. And with a little bit of searching on the net, i found a post where it mentioned to use to check the sound getting redirected to speaker or the earpiece. I checked with the app, and now i can hear from the earpiece as well as from speaker. May be the software or the firmware is corrupted. One of my friend works in the sony center and he told me that first they check it with xperia companion repair option. Else they use different software to erase all and reinstall like the factory. I dont know if it is true but thats why they charge hefty. Anyways try the app SoundAbout, and mess me if it works.

I think there is some problem in our headphone jack bcoz I did a factory reset and changed the ROM twice but still the problem persists. It must be some hardware defect in the jack.
