Has anyone experienced any issues with touchless controls? ie "Ok Google Now"
Seems my phone is cursed. While sitting on the table tonight it I said something to my wife which sounded nothing remotely like "Ok, Google Now" and it decided to call a very work sensitive number. Luckily I caught it before anything happened. This has been happening a lot lately and will trigger without any audio cues at all. Is it just me or has anyone else had issues?
I've also noticed mines randomly turning on touchless controls. I haven't had it actually prompt any commands but usually it will happen when my phone is in my pocket and then I'll hear the notification sound when touchless controls turns on. I noticed it only happens if there's a lot of noise around me, usually if there's people talking. I've even had it happen to me while I was driving and my radio was on kind of loud and I wasn't even talking. I'm also worried that it'll call someone without me knowing but luckily it hasn't happened. And I also agree with you that even though nothing close to the words "OK Google Now" were said, that it still turns on touchless controls. Hopefully it can be fixed in a future update.
Ok, good. At least I know I'm not going crazy. Two of my contacts are a hospital ER and a 911 call center. They're the last people I want to be calling because my phone is acting up.
One thing you can do is enable the "confirm before call" option. Then if it does decide to go a little crazy it shouldn't actually call unless someone says something that sounds like "call".

If I reenable voiceless I'll definitely do that. ThanX!
You could try to retrain the controls via the settings menu

I've experienced this, too, but not to the degree you've described. While watching TV my phone would activate Google Now in response to something it heard from the TV. Having retraining the touchless control phrase, that hasn't happened since (fingers crossed). I've never had the phone activate without any audio cues.
My wife had something of the opposite problem: her Moto X insisted that she use a perky, upbeat voice or it wouldn't listen to her. Retraining has dealt with that issue, too.

I've retrained it a few times. That's not really the issue. I can be in a quiet, dark room, typing at the keyboard and it will suddenly kick on saying it didn't understand what I said. A lot of times it's 'come alive' while in my pocket. If it weren't for the tell tell ding I probably wouldn't have noticed.
Yeah mine does it too. During movies, people talking. Its great.

Mine was also doing this really frequently. I initially trained and retrained it in my house which has stone floors and echoes like crazy.
After training it in my car which has really dead acoustics it seems to have stopped doing it.

Just went in the closet and retrained. No echo. We'll see if this helps.
mta: Since retraining the catchphrase I haven't had 1 misfire. Seems that any extra noise when training will completely throw this thing off kilter.

Does anyone know how to disable the "Call Status Tone" on the N1? Every time I make a phone call or answer a call, I have to wait to hear the beep before I can talk. It has driven me crazy since I got this phone. I was playing with my wife's Vibrant and came across the option to turn it call tone on or off in her Call Settings, but there is nothing of the sort on the N1.
Does anyone have any idea how to do it? I would be eternally grateful!
Thanks in advance!!!
Anyone?

Never even heard of this before.
Are you sure it's the phone, and not a third party app or something (like Google Voice)?

I am pretty sure it has been making the beep since I got the phone and it has happened with every ROM I have installed on the phone.
When a phone call connects, there is a 1 second pause then a beep, then I can start talking.
Am I the only one who has this happening?

Doesn't happen to me.
ive never run into this either, and ive had both tmo and att n1
ive got the vibrate after call answers thing turned on in cyanogen but no beep...
i you google voice and sometimes just call with my cell number too and no beep
when you say you get this across different roms, do you do a full wipe between roms?
if so i'd imagine its hardware
I finally figured it out today, it only happens when I am on my Jabra headset. It is fraking aggravating!!!
Does anyone know how to turn it off?
I'm pretty sure that's the headset doing it, not the phone.

Off to the Jabra forums you go.
Mines makes the same annoying sound overtime you make a call a tone plays in the speaker when it connects any ideas on how to turn this off? I just use the phone no headset etc
Either it's something your carrier does, or you've installed something that's causing it. It's not the phone.
thanks for the info

I just recently bought a brand new moto x off contract. Great phone. This should've been the nexus 5. Anyway, I am having a problem with touchless control. Whenever I wake it up by, ok Google now, and hit the back to cancel. It makes the usual sound but with static. I uninstalled the updates since I can't delete it and downloaded it again. It fixed it. I noticed that with just Google search by tapping and canceling the mic, it doesn't give me this problem. Anyone else have this?

Don't have that kind of problem. But I've noticed something else: the voice recognition is way too sensitive. Not only that I don't have to say "Ok Google Now" - OK is enough, but sometimes it reacts to my other words too.

I also had this problem, but with time, its less and less often. But if you've setup your voice recognition some time ago, you should try it again and wait a couple of weeks to see if the problem is solved.
Never had any static though. Do you have any third party equalizer of something like that? Also check if you have any open background app that can interfere with your audio.
Wow didn't realize topic title till now. Toothless. Lol. Auto correct. The voice recognition is very sensitive. Activated by others talking in public.

Yeah, I was wondering about the 'toothless'
I had a similar issue: Touchless control was activating on ambient noise, or even a loud TV. The key was to re-train the launch phrase in a VERY quiet room. My friend trained his X and there was a barking dog next door while he did it. It activated all-the-time, seemingly out of nowhere.
Once we re-trained carefully, in an extremely quiet environment, it no longer activates un-intentionally.
You might give this a shot! To Re-Train, go to Settings > Touchless Control
Has anyone experienced this? Seems to happen often where Moto Voice will activate and ask for commands.

I've seen in on disconnecting from car bluetooth.
Once or twice.

Any way to lessen? or what causes this to happen?
I've had this happen 3-4 times since I got it on Thursday, so they definitely need to tweak the software to be a little more accurate.
Re-record your voice launch phrase in a very quiet environment.

Yes, this is the answer. My first turbo never randomly activated with my very basic phrase (Okay Turbo). My second one did it all the time and it became very frustrating, until I re-recorded it.

I found the cause of mine. I use Tasker and had it doing a Media Stop Key emulation which seems to be what was triggering it.
I too had the moto voice randomly activating. I just picked a more complex phase and that did the trick.
it seems shutting down Google now solves alot
I had moto voice pop up while at the movie theater during Interstellar last night. Had my phone on silent and everything, but it made the loud ding noise anyway. It must have thought someone in the movie said "OK Google." This is the only time I've had it come up without my voice command, but just a heads up to movie-goers.
My activation phrase is Hey Turbo Turbo, it seems to trigger repeatedly when in the car, usually with the radio on, sometimes with it off. It gotten so bad I had to disable voice activations.
For me in the car, moto maxx wake up like if I said my phrase "ok moto maxx" even watching my tv too..
Definitely it's a bug

Use "OK Google Now"
No problems!
So I love using my launch phrase. And the percentage of 'correctness' is amazing. But whenever I do it anywhere except somewhere that's dead silent, it just keeps listening. For like...30 seconds. Even if I said two words. I find this quite annoying. Any fix for this? Anyone else experiencing this?

This is because the phone is still listening for the sounds around you, it doesn't differentiate between a dog or your voice, it just hears sounds, so as long as they environment is noisy, the voice commands wouldn't work properly.
There is no fix for this because it's not a bug, it works as intended but if any other sources are making noises, the phone won't distinguish your voice properly; the only thing you can do is to speak louder or try to be close to your phone when using your voice.

I understand exactly what you are saying. But, on my old GNex (and on this phone) if I use Google's voice detection services it works without these incredibly long delays. The only reason i prefer this service is that this service reacts to my command without having to touch my phone first.

I think this is the most interesting thing, of course Google has many advantages with its own implementation, but the fact to have the always listening function on the phone is priceless.
After a certain amount of time, or opening a certain app, the phone will develop this annoying speaker pop on some screen clicks. I haven't figured out what causes it yet but it happens even when the phone is set to "total silence". A reboot always fixes it. I had my screen clicks enabled but have turned them off and rebooted and everything is fine now. If I figure out which app or circumstances cause it, I will post the fix.
I'm having the same issue. Happens during app launch for pretty much all my apps.

Reboot fixes it temporarily. If you notice it happens after the speaker goes dormant. If the speaker is making continual sound it won't do it. Once to goes to make its first sound after sitting, it pops. Even does it on silent. Don't know what is triggering it yet.
Supposedly someone has done a FDR and no longer has the issue.

The pop has not returned today and the only thing I did different is not hook up the mod. It may be that.

Well that really wouldn't say much because a reboot fixes it every time by itself. Where is the audio effects setting?
I started noticing this in the Twitter app.

I've noticed this as well. When scrolling through my FB or IG feed, any time a video starts playing (even with the sound defaulted to off), I hear a tiny lil speaker pop. It doesn't particularly bother me all that much, but I definitely noticed it.
I was thinking about it the other day and noticed it sounds a bit like a static pop. Kinda like when you plug a guitar into an amp when it's on. Might be some sort of initiation for the speaker. As long as it doesn't affect anything else or causes damage, I'm not too bothered by it. Especially hearing that it's as widespread it is.
hey guys ive figured out what is causing it but the solution might be some sort of software patch.
its the act of connecting to a BT device and then streaming audio like XM/Google music ect. once you disconnect the pop/snap sound appears on all things that activate the speaker. the twitter pull down is the best thing to test this with but it happens on all sounds from the first time you play a song/video to changing a ring tone ect.
here is a video of the sound. ive tried it on both my cars BT, a bose standalone BT speaker, and even and old FM transmitter and all the BT devices cause the pop once they are disconnected.
the reason why its happening is a little over my head but I was thinking something with DRM possibly?
another thing i discovered is it does not happen on the non Force regular Moto Z. I tested the exact same scenarios on it and it does no speaker pop
I was going to return my phone for another but this thread and a few others makes me think its a full on bug with the Force not a bad phone out of the box
ive tried a simple network reset clearing BT but that didnt work. before I try any luck with a factory reset or is it a waste of time?
Looks like this has been posted on the Moto forums https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Moto-Z-Force/Speaker-issue/td-p/3382728

Well it makes sense why I've never heard it then...I've have not had my phone connected to a Bluetooth device

I have confirmed today that it definitely is not "mod" related. I haven't had my JBL hooked up in 48 hours and there has been no pop. I drove to work today listening to music through my truck speakers using bluetooth. Pop is back. @MCN1SMO was right, it is bluetooth related. The only way out is to reboot. LAME.
Just my two cents on the topic, I am not having this issue, however, I do use bluetooth daily, my phone has been on continuously for almost two weeks now. I work outside so use the JBL speaker and have my phone in my shirt pocket listening to music while working. I keep it at about 80% volume for battery life. I am averaging about 6 hours of listening a day.
Also I have my bluetooth connected to the work truck (Ford Sync) to and from work which includes a 4 hour commute home on Fridays and back on Sunday nights to the town I stay in during the week. I have yet to hear any kind of pop from either the JBL or device speakers.
Personally I keep bluetooth off when I am not connected to a device I am not sure if this has any effect or not but it could be worth testing if you are able to replicate the problem. I have been taking off the speaker when not using it as well, but have left it on a few days.
I do also remember reading about an issue with Pandora and bluetooth. I am not sure if Pandora is what you are using or not, if it is try something else and see if the problem persists. I stopped using Pandora a few years back when I was a mechanic and had a bluetooth adapter for a code scanner for cars. If I opened Pandora I would have to reset before the adapter would operate normally.
