Google Keep notifications do not work - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I have come across a problem with notifications for google keep. They do not work I wont get a notification when I should get one. I have this problem some time now and the only solution I have come across is reinstalling Google Keep and then notifications will work again. After a wile notification will not work and I need to reinstall Google Keep again.
I do not know if other people have this same problem? Or does somebody knows a solution for this strange problem.

Maybe it had been killed by the internal taskmanager

Dont know is possible, I dont use third party taskkillers so that shouldend be a problem. I only use greenify but Google Keep isnt checked in Greenify. Hopefully an update of Google Keep or an update from Sony to 4.3 will help.

You use the widget? using a widget makes sure Keep stays in memory I think

Yes I am using the widget thats the strange part. And rebooting phone or clearing cache or dalvik cache do not bring notifications back. Only reinstalling Google Keep works.

you have any other app installed that could hibernate keep or just disable the notification?

Not that I know of, I only use greenify for hibernating apps. Yeah I have ES task manager installed but I dont use that app for killing apps and it doesnt do it automatically. I do greenify google play services but when manually greenifed the notification still works.

I have a similar problem. Google keep has (stopped) giving fully formed reminder notifications ie the notification triggers (and will be visible in the notification area afterwards) but the sound/vibrate is truncated ie only plays a fraction of the sound, not all of the ringtone (or sometimes none of it).
I had a similar issue on a previous phone using Tasker to notify of events. What fixed that was explicitly waking the phone for a length of time longer than the ringtone lasts, then triggering the notification and ringtone, then releasing the wake lock again. Could it be that Keep reminders need the same fix?

I have solved my problem. By keeping keep as an app that starts at reboot and I do not greenify keep, that solved it for me. Because if keep doesn't start at boot and you use the app after boot, the notification still do not work. Just try to reinstall keep that worked for me before I figured this out.

I uninstall Greenily and reboot the phone. Google Keep start working with no problem.

[Q] Why does applications "Maps" and "Sms" keep starting?

Hi,
I notice that even if I kill applications "Maps" and "Sms" they keep showing in the list. I guess they are restarted by something. I have my GPS turned on but surely that should not start Maps? And I'm using Handsent for my messaging - not Sms.
Any advices?

Don't quote me on this but I always thought that 3rd party messaging apps need the stock app running to work correctly

Sounds reasonable, then I'm only left with why Maps is restarting
Thanks.

Lately I've noticed a lot of apps myself that never used to start by themselves doing so now. Even after shutting them down in settings they seem to start up again. The only way I've found around this so far is to clear cache and data. Clearing data is a bit of a pain because it means entering user names and passwords again everytime you wanna use the app. If there is a better solution I'd also be interested to know. As far as I know from my own experience none of the app killing apps out there really work and I've tried a good few.

Hope you are not right. I'd hate to reset Maps. On the other hand I dont want it to use 25% of the battery doing nothing as it does now!

No that I'm seeing "Maps" in the application list without starting it is a new experience. And surely a navigation application is not a system app...

Got it!
My GPS was lit (as it should be), and if the "Maps" application is set to automatically register my locations it will fire Maps when the GPS is lit. Disable the GPS or disable the automatics in Maps and it all works
Thanks.

[Q] Stamina Notifications

(moved from wrong thread)
Hey All,
The handly little warnings the phone gives you about an app blocking Stamina mode from starting, it's handy for picking up the odd misbehaving app.
Unfortunately, I hit the "Do not show again" option on one in the notification, but I still want it shown... There's no obvious setting to fix that, and I can't even seem to pick out which app it is to clear it's data either.
Am I blind? or is there no way to restore it.
It's a preinstalled app, so short of wiping it, it's not like I can just reinstall the single app from the store.
Thx,
GD

I think you've misunderstood what I was referring to. See the attached screenshot.
Pressing the "Ok, Don't show again." does not add the app to the whitelist in stamina mode, so I can't bring the warning back simply by clearing that out.
If the app blocks Stamina again say an hour later, the notification returns, so you can see which apps continuously are causing issues.
Thx, GD.
Solved.
I've found it, clearing the defaults on all apps had no effect, however force stopping and then wiping the data from "Eco Mode Controller" reset the notifications. (as well as changing the estimated battery time left).
It didn't appear to effect the notifications at first, but after a few hours the 'dismissed' ones started showing up again.
I was looking for an app called "Stamina" and kept coming up dry.
Thx heaps,
GD.

App notification issues

Ok I'm new here, signed up just to get help with this, so here's my problem.
Just got a new phone, a Nexus 6 (not the 6p). Upgraded to Android 6.0. Previously had a Note 3 running kitkat. On my Note 3 if I got new posts to a thread I'm subscribed to on a forum I'm a member of, new messages on Instagram or new messages on kik my phone notified me that I had the message. The app didn't have to be running for this to work. With my Nexus 6 however that isn't the case!
Text messages, voicemails and emails all work fine and notify my just the way they should, it's only the 3rd party apps that don't work. I know it's not the apps because like I mentioned it's ALL the installed 3rd party apps doing this! It has to have something to do with the Nexus 6 or the Android 6.0 or a combination of the 2.
I scoured the web looking for answers, including this forum, and came up empty so here's the information that people usually ask for:
1) My phone isn't on silent or do not disturb mode
2) My volume is turned up
3) Sound and notification settings-App notifications are normal and allow peaking for the apps in question. Treat as priority if not on because I don't want the notifications when I'm sleeping but this shouldn't keep them from coming in normally when the volume isn't turned off.
4) Settings-Apps for each app the notifications ARE NOT blocked and allow peaking is on.
5) I enabled ALL requested permissions for each app just to make sure a blocked permission wasn't the problem.
6) I white listed each app from battery optimization to ensure this wasn't causing the problem.
7) Battery saver is not turned on.
8) Push notifications are turned on and allowed for each app in the settings on the app and the notifications sound in the app settings is my default notification, which is set because it's the same one I get when the app is running.
Someone please help! This is driving me crazy. Like I mentioned I get the notifications if I have the app running in the background but if the app is off I don't. On my last phone I didn't have to leave the app running 24/7, draining my battery, to get the notifications! Is there some way to fix this????
Also, I already wiped the system data partition.

Are you using a custom ROM or did you take an OTA to get to Android 6.0? I also wanted to ask if you were getting the proper notifications from using lollipop 5.1.1 while you were on it? If you took the OTA I'd suggest wiping app cache/data for kik and that MIGHT restore the kik functionality. If it works for that one app it may work for others.
You haven't installed a third-party notification system at all have you? Like Teslaunread or anything else that requests notification access on your device?

I know you said battery saver is not turned on now, but did you ever have it on? I ask because ever since I turned it on for a few hours (then turned it off and kept it off), 3rd-party notifications have been wonky.
No custom ROM, I took OTA to get to 6.0 but I didn't install any of the APP's prior to getting to 6.0 so I don't know if they would have worked with 5.1.1 or not unfortunately.
I do have Nova Launcher and use Teslaunread with that but I had that on my previous phone and it didn't interfere with any of my notifications coming through.
And yes the battery saver was on a couple times when the battery got low.
Ahhh see you are making a misconception. The app has to be running to get notifications. At least the service does. When you killed them with your old device it only removed them from your view. It didn't really close them out. Unlike stock Android. If you kill the app then it is really killed. Killing the app will also stop the service which prevents your notifications from coming in.
Your best bet is to leave it be.

Actually leaving it running in the back ground still won't give me the notification, I only get the notification when I click on the app and open it, even if it is listed as running in the background. I found that out because I did start leaving the apps running so I'd get the notifications, only to find out that didn't fix my problem like I thought it would.

Do you have greenify or any apps that effect doze installed?
Could have been an issue with the OTA, you could flash the Stock 6.0 image via Fastboot, it may be worth trying PNF on android play, i use the root version so not sure on the non root but it's stops delayed notifications.

I used greenify w/root on my last phone but not this one. I don't think any of my apps would affect doze and turned doze off for the apps I've had trouble with to try and make sure doze wasn't the issue. Still not luck.

I may try those option and see if they help. This is driving me crazy, I figured a newer operating system would mean a better android experience but so far I was a lot happier with kitkat than I have been with marshmallow.

Third Party App Notifications not working unless App is Open

I've noticed that if you use a third party app for SMS like Signal, you dont get a notification unless the application is open, same with gmail.
Has anyone else noticed this?
go to advance setting >battery manager >protected app and check if application is not checked on , that's mean when screen is off the application will not work unless you open it... so if you need notification from certain apps just mark it on

This is a the 'doze' function in Huawei EMUI. A lot of firmwares have this issue. It's because Huawei has blacklisted many apps to not to send notification when screen is off. The apps that are white-listed include WhatsApp and some Chinese Tencent crap.
There is a method to enable notifications for all apps but obviously that requires root.
And yeah, Welcome to EMUI, a UI that plays with your emotions.

All I can say is I have turned on every apps to run when the screen is off. I do t get any notifications, only if I go on the app or if I turned the phone off then back on I get a batch of notifications. I receive certain apps notification but its not consistent. Can't wait for a good root, to get rid of this crappy EMUI and hopefully the camera app will be ported, I'm happy with the pbone, the camera, but this UI is from hell.
Weird, I have 0 issues with notifications, everything turns up very quickly. Gmail, whatsapp, youtube comments... Etc.
I also use Nils lockscreen notifications though, I have the huawei lockscreen notification system disabled. It works very well like this until I find the time to root.

I only disabled the huawei lockscreen notification system (to disable the lockscreen all together you need root). Just use any lockscreen other than the stock magazine one in the theme selecter.
The UI certainly is different. But imho customizable enough that it doesn't get in the way. This is android after all.

OK if you guys have root i have something to try for you. I had issues with the process of GMD gesture control. It was killed by the battery saving tools implemented in this phone.
So I tried freezing certain system apps through titanium to find the one responsible for closing the background process and I think I found it:
It's a process/app called "power genie". I disabled it and now the process sticks. Also I made gesture control a system app, so maybe it's a combination of the two things.
It's not the same issue as you had but maybe it works for you too.

So does this method allow for notifications to come through without having firstly opened the application then going to home-screen with it still open?

You'd have to try that out for yourself because I never had any issues with notifications coming through and I use third party software (Nils) for lockscreen notification.
What I described is a method that prevents a Huawei "power save" service called power genie killing background processes. No guarantees though, I had issues with gmd gesture control not working after a few minutes and I had to constantly open the app to make it work again. Then I froze power genie and since then it worked 100%.
So it's just my theory that it might stop other apps/processes from being closed as well.
I still dont get notifications coming through via the official gmail app, i might trying that power genie freeze, since any app thats not Huawei wont come through as a notification and thats when I give the app full access.'
I'm not sure if this is worth a try, but there's an option to 'ignore optimisations' on a per-app basis.
In settings > Apps > Advanced > Ignore optimisations > All apps
I've instructed to ignore optimisations for Dash, an app with a background service that launches the app upon connection to my car's Bluetooth OBD. I'll feed back if this has any impact, as I've noticed it doesn't auto-start the app on the Huawei P9 as it used to on my Nexus 5, despite 'protecting' the app in the battery manager.

If it's just Gmail, try deleting cache and data for the Gmail app and reboot first. My wife had the same issue just with the Gmail app a few days ago (on a galaxy s3 though).
Same issue with Instagram so I guess it's not only gmail

Question Google play doesn't work after update

Hi everybody,
following an update of my smartphone today via OTA, google play and youtube no longer works. Do you have any idea where it might come from?
FYI, a few weeks ago I deactivated a good number of applications via ADB but I had no problem so far.
Hi tomtom34,
Have you tried setting your timezone and date manually? Sometimes this can help. I just got the update but have not encountered any issues yet.

I've noticed this too! I had to put back com.vivo.pem for it to work, but it seems to work if you do manual sync of google account, clear google play cache, reboot 2 times then open google play and wait a few moments, then it springs back into life and with com.vivo.pem disabled (the way we like it).
Strange, I know, happened again today after another nighly update.

Google seems to have settled down but since updating to OceanOs notifications are much worse. I had working before (not perfectly) WhatsApp and FB Msg notifications but it seems even with pem removed, app permissions set and batt optimisation for apps set it is still deciding to close apps.
Perhaps it's iManager? (We cant disable that now) or whatever app tells us it's closed this.. or blocked pop-ups from that.. But I feel that is prob iManager.
Is there a specific reason vivo app should be removed?

Notifications working ok now, I had not realised the basic notification setting in the app(s) were set to none (No chat notification at all) So many settings.... anyway, wasn't an OceanOS issue.

I used the uninstall cmd on PEM (vs disable) and GMS remained on (even after a few reboots), hoping it stays that way. Notifications appear to be working again.

Okay, thank you for the info. Google apps (and notifications) have been working for me since the last disabling of PEM, but i haven't dared to restart the phone since then...
Did you ever experienced google disconnection after firmware update: I mean after an official update (2 in this month) Google Play Services seem to "freeze" (no notifications from apps) and if I try to disconnect my Google account I cannot login again for a variable period of time (Google server unreachable).
