[Q] [$$] Ethernet over USB OTG - Galaxy Camera Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to be able to use a wired ethernet connection with the Galaxy Camera over USB using a OTG cable. I know it doesn't support it out of the box. I have looked all over the internet but did not find a solution. I am willing to pay if someone can create a reliable solution for this.
I need to be able to use a USB OTG cable (such as this) and a USB to ethernet adapter (such as this) in order to connect the Galaxy Camera to the internet.

Did you manage to achieve this ?
I am plannig to do something similar. I am trying to capture audio & video feed over ethernet , the performance over wifi is not so good.

I am still looking for a solution. I am also looking into other options like the new S4 Zoom. Someone managed to make it work with the S4, so I thought it would be an easy port for them to do it for S4 Zoom.

[Q] HDMI adapter issue (MHL)

Hi,
I just received an OEM Micro USB to HDMI adapter today.
I connected my Note to the adapter and then to the HDMI cable of my TV.
Unfortunately there is no HDMI signal on the TV side.
Now, I don't know howto activate TV output on the Note. I don't even know if that's possible.
Can anyone guide me on how to activate HDMI output on the Galaxy Note ?
Should I make any settings ?
Should I play a video ? (or would it give out video from HDMI even at home screen ?)
Should I power the phone and/or the HDMI adapter through USB ?
Thanks.

Connect HDMI cable to MHL adapter, and other end into TV. (duh...)
Plug your charger cable into the MHL adapter. (output won't work without this)
Plug your MHL adapter into Note. (no configuring required!)
Everything you do on your Note will be mirrored on your TV/Screen, at the Note's native 1280x800 resolution. Plain and simple!
Video's that are played via the MHL adapter will be played at their own native resolution, up to and including 1080p.
Enjoy!
thank you.
it doesn't work unfortunately.
maybe my adapter is not working but it passes power through USB.
how can I understand if it really doesn't pass HDMI ?

It's possible that you have a faulty adapter. It should just be plug and play, but you have to make sure that the adapter is receiving external USB power in order for it to work.
ok; it works now.
the micro USB connector was not fully connected...
thanks.
Similar issue
Hi, me to facing similar issue. The MHL adapter when connected does not show any notification on the screen. The only thing it does is charging the phone. Does it mean its a faulty adapter?
i hope i am answering my own question but still if there is anything which i may be missing here

and what rom and kernel are you on ?
I'm on stock running ICS and I get funky results, sometimes it works for a minute or two sometimes just a few seconds. The problem seems to be on the TV, a Sony Bravia, the HDMI setting has to be Wide for picture quality (it has zoom, smart zoom, wide, 16:9 and 4:3) but as soon as there is some glitch in receiving data from the phone the TV begins to scroll through those settings to regain a signal and I can't force a setting on wide for the HDMI connector, only for one of the SCART connectors.
The frustrating part is that it works flawlessly when I connect an Asus Transformer. Could it be the MHL's USB connector? If that is the case how can I check it?

Just in case anyone relooks this up.
Connect everything. Then REBOOT PHONE/NOTE. The TV will then detect it auto.
Hope this helps someone !!
It didnt help me... my sony bravia 32" tv just wont show the gnote's video. the same adapter works fine on my samsung 32" tv but not on the sony. I have even upgarded the sony tv's firmware too. tried changing to "Wide Zoom" settings and other things but still no video showing, although the tv does know there is something plugged in to HDMI port 1.
Anyone else got ideas?

lol, just don't try that any sony device to work together with another samsung device, this is a general rule for electronic trademarks.
*Frankly my friend, I lost a complete day trying my sony ericcson bt handset to work with my note, no success at all, so, I just bought a samsung one and everything gone well.
that sux, bluetooth is a standard and im sure there are no variants... they are cheap, so i will buy another one from ebay and see if it is bcos of the adpater and not the TV.

This did help me using a Galaxy Note and a cheap no-name MHL adapter I bought of eBay. Had it connected to the HDMI input on my Dell WFP3008 monitor.

[Q]Howto connect the i9000 to the pc screen?

Hi guys,
been a passive viewer in the xda forums for a long time but never posted anything, so be easy on me - It's my first.
I would like to connect my galaxy s i9000 to the pc screen.
I know there's the TV out option, but it involves a 3.5" to RCA cable, and pc screens don't have RCA jacks.
Does anyone know of a way to do this? and if you know what kind of cable is required that will be great.
I'm using the CM9 rom, build 17 from theam hacksung.
Just to clarify, I want to connect to phone to the PC so I can view the phone on the PC screen.
Thanks in advance
Short answer is you can't.
Longer answer is you might.
Your monitor doesn't have RCA connectors but if you have a tuner installed inside your PC, you might be able to connect it to that and then use the software that came with the tuner to display it onto your monitor.
Another method would be to use a RCA to whatever input your display has converter but they are are usually pricey and after a search for RCA to HDMI/VGA/DVI I don't think they really exist.
Even if there was a 3.5mm to HDMI/VGA/DVI cable, it wouldn't work unless the display was designed to take a PAL or NTSC signal through those types of connections.
With cm9, you need to have 3.5mm to RCA cable plugged in then go into System Settings>Advanced>TV Out. The option is greyed out when no 3.5mm to RCA cable is plugged in and the option has to be checked every time you plug the cable in.
Thanks for the reply,
I knew about the tv-out option, but didn't think about using a tuner - that might work!
Another question, do you think that a micro usb - hdmi cable might work?
I saw a while back that samsung offered such a cable that was designed for that purpose exactly.
I've searched a lot of forums but havn't got a clear answer if this actually works, not have I seen a youtube video demonstrating this.
Does anyone know if using a micro usb - hdmi cable wokrs?

Do you know what tuner you have? I'm not sure if yours will have it but there will be a yellow plug like the ones you find on a TV.
I'm %99.9 sure that the I9000 doesn't have HDMI out through USB. It would seem a bit excessive to have two video out ports. Although you did spark an interesting subject, if someone could whip together drivers to work with something like this we could potentially have HDMI through USB but I don't see it happening any time soon.

[REQ] USB to RJ-45 support

I have a micro USB to USB adapter which works great with stick mount and storage on stock root but also have a Plugable USB 2.0 to RJ-45 adapter which I would like to be able and use to connect directly to a router/ modem for internet connection. Being in IT, this would be a very handy tool for me to test connections and cables and diagnose some network issues without needing a computer. On that note, it would also be really awesome to know if it is possible to connect a modem to the Nexus 7 and use it as a wireless router if I need a temporary fix.
I have done some searching on the Plugable USB adapter and from the sound of it, it is possible to add the drivers to a kernel, they do support android 3.2+, including one of Toshiba's android tablets. When I tried to connect my Nexus 7 to my router, both lights lit up on the adapter showing that there was some kind of connection being made between the devices, beyond that I could not get internet with wireless disabled.
If anybody has the time to look into something like this, I would really appreciate it! Even the same capability for my GNexus would be awesome.

Thanks for reading!
The OG Transformer had a thread dedicated to adding driver support for various USB Ethernet adapters. The problem is that it doesn't work with the majority of apps because wired Ethernet is not built into the OS. Unless you're comfortable doing all of your network tests via command line, it's going to be a while before you can do anything useful with a wired connection on Android.
would anyone tell me if any of the 2 will work with HTC Desire HD android revolution 7.0?
Plugable USB 2.0 to 10/100 Fast Ethernet LAN Network RJ45 Adapter (ASIX AX88772 chipset)
or
Plugable USB 2.0 to 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN Network Adapter (ASIX AX88178 Chipset)
The 10/100 should work. Don't think Gigabit is compatible as far as I can tell.

thanks for your reply, how do you know this? you tried?
I saw someone get an USB-ethernet working in pictures and poosibly a video in another OTG thread, but I'd like to know if there was an app or special programming involved. About to go back to a dorm with 250 ppl using the wifi, and if I can plug my upcoming tablet or even my phone into the room's ethernet, it'd be huge. We do know it's supposed to be covered somehow in the OTG support of the device. -Ara

I'm using a rooted N7 with the stock kernel.
The Apple USB-to-Ethernet adapter works out of the box with an OTG cable, if you need a recommendation.
Cheers,
Kermee
P.S. It's a 10/100 adapter but using the new CIFS module for the stock kernel with the back-ported async support, I get on average 9.5MB/s transfers over SMB which is basically full 100Mbps.

The S3 (and probably also the SGN2) use an alternative micro-USB connection with extra pins that allows to use USB OTG and HML simultaneously. The 4x HD doesn't have that, so the dock could never work on our phone. There do exist docks with only a normal microUSB connection that you could use for HML (HDMI).

Thats really sad, I was hoping to be able to use my wired PS3 controller along with MHL TV connection simultaneously. I assume our phone uses similar pins setup as HTC OneX hope atleast HTC finds a way to do it
u can use a ps3 controller with Sixaxis controller using bluetooth, works great

USB audio

For the audiophiles among you, I confirm that the Tab S 8.4 is USB audio capable. My HRT microstreamer USB DAC works perfectly.
What about analog usb audio is that supported too?

Andriod is getting really good support with usb OTG
my amazon.com/dp/B000KW2YEI/ref=pe_385040_30332190_TE_dp_1 Behringer UCA202 Audio Interface Works with both the tab s 8.4 and my s5
also my PS3 controller works via usb otg
USB hubs work as well; now I just need a way to charge the tablet while using usb otg
That is what I am looking after to.
If I only could get my eyes on a service manual I will find a way to charge while OTG is enabled.

There are many Y cables on eBay that allow charging and otg use at the same time. I find it's a bit hit and miss, as some don't work while others do
We might find some info on this in the kernel source as well.
The table for USB Id should say the resistor value needed for the combination that gives charging and USB OTG at the same time.
I'll see if I can find out which module in the kernel that does USB ID sensing.
