Hi guys , i'm about to buy a N7000 .
The seller told me , it has no IMEI due to bad flashing .
Is it anyway to restore the original IMEI?
Thanks you all.
Maybe.
I own a phone like this myself. (Bought it to replace the cracked screen on mine. Now it has the cracked screen, but working fine for the most part.)
It depends, on the condition of the efs folder. It could be that you could recover it, but maybe not.
Also look in the Galaxy S2 forum, most of whats there applies here too.

If the efs data is gone recovering the emei is gonna take professional equipment.
Even if i flash a firmware with pit file it wont work?

I wouldn't bought it in your case, without EFS you won't be able to use it as a phone. IMEI modification is also illegal in almost all countries, FYI.
BTW, use the Q&A section for your next questions
If we were talking about changing the imei you would be correct.
However, the phones imei is written under the battery, and recovering that would be fully legal in most if not all places.

Well, until we know more about the condition of the efs, I can not recommend buying the phone.
I had the same problem with a friends Note. If the EFS file is deleted and no backup is kept of the nv_data.bin file then you re pretty much screwed. MediaTek cpu phones have a mode called Engineering mode which lets you change your IMEI to whatever you like but i dont know if this applies to other phones as well. If you have the phone, download UncleTools app from PlayStore to test this. There are some guides about this if you search for recovering IMEI from engineering mode.
Yes, there is. The imei is in efs folder. I could send You my files if You get the phone, just PM for it.

It depends on whether the folder was deleted or just the firmware is wrong (branded).
I've repaired my old S2 once by copying my brothers IMEI folder and it fixed the phone.

I got a Samsung Captivate from someone off ebay. I tired running the update through my phone, but of course you can't. It fails at 50%. So I tried to through Kies Mini. Every time i try to, I get Firmware Version: Unregistered Device. It recognizes what phone it is and it recognizes my phone number. I registered the phone on the samsung website, still nothing. Did soft reset, factory restored the phone, and followed the instructions Samsung gave me for Kies Mini. And I don't know if my phone is rooted or not. I'm thinking that may be the possibility. If it is, how can I unroot it?? This is what my phone says in "About Phone":
Model Number: SAMSUNG-SGH-I897
Firmware Version: 2.1-update1
Baseband Version: I897UCJF6
Kernel Version: 2.6.29 jetaek.lee(at)sep-11 #2
Build Number: ECLAIR
I had to put (at) because xda said i can't put outside links in a post because I'm new?? It is the at symbol though.
I don't know if you can tell if the phone is rooted on not through that. But I would really like to get my phone updated soon. I was really looking forward to the Flash Player and the GPS getting fixed since I travel a lot.
Your phone seems already modified. Look at kernel. That is why you got problem when updating via kies. And i bet that phone is rooted already. Or seller unroot when he/she post to sell and kernel it self, it is not a stock kernel, it is a custom kernel.

how do i bring it all back to stock?? is there anything i can do to the phone to make it like i just pulled it out of the box??
Check and see if you are rooted, I don't think you are, download "busybox installer" from the market and run it. Unless you are rooted it will fail.
Not quite sure if that if a custom kernel actually, I'll look it up.
In the mean time look up how to boot into recovery, if it's blue with 4 options it's stock recovery
If any other color and more options that is clock work mod recovery.
most if not all custom kernels come with clockwork so if you have stock recovery it's most likely a stock kernel.
I'm thinking maybe the original owner used odin one click to restore it to stock and jf6 is the way early version and some newer phones won't even run that so it may no longer be supported by samsung?? Just a theory...
it's blue with 4 options. but i talked to a samsung rep and he thought it was odd that my build number only said ECLAIR and didnt have a number. but i guess he was lazy and didnt look into it.

Don't worry it wasn't your fault . Probably from the previous owner. When u flash some custom roms it can change your product code for some reason. Samsung Mini Kies also checks this before it updates your phone. If one letter is off it won't update your phone
is there a way i can get it back to normal??
Yes!! U can . But the bad part is that its kinda tricky .

learn how to flash a custom rom and you will have a billion times the performance/options/control than you would even think of on stock. and it would be easier than worrying about using kies.

That just means somebody had flashed a T-Mobile based rom that edited the product code. Check your IMEI in Settings>About Phone to see if it starts with "000" or if it starts with the number 3. If 000 are the first numbers of your IMEI, then you could have a lemon due to a corrupted EFS. I have had the issue myself.
Just an FYI, make sure NOT to post your full IMEI anywhere ever.
A normal IMEI will start with the number 3. EFS is a special area on your phone which stores encrypted info about how the phone identities itself on the network. It is where the product code and IMEI are stored. If EFS is corrupted, your phone will give incorrect IMEI info to the network and eventually you will see bad stuff happen like loss of data connectivity and stuff like that.

If you are saying that you've got a blank/unknown IMEI in your phone settings and also when you dial *#06# then your EFS partition is probably corrupted. Your network will probably not let you make phone calls if this is the case.
I don't suppose by any chance you done the firmware "Full backup with CWM to ODIN format" as per the instructions in the sticky thread on this forum? If you did then try flashing that because it contains a backup of your bml15 / efs partition and you will also get your previous firmware back.
If not then with then I would say prepare the phone for a return to Samsung.

You can do it with the app Galaxy Toolbox:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.doky.sgtoolbox&feature=search_result
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1647703
Mine says zero, I'm not sure that flashing from recovery affects the binary counter, may just be download mode / ODIN.
By the way it may be worth trying to restore your CWM backup, especially if its the stock firmware because you'll need to anyway. Severely doubt it will work to be honest, but you never know.

Samsung may check to make sure you have stock ROM, stock kernel, your phone is not rooted and your binary counter = 0. Act on that information in whatever way you deem appropriate.

To be honest I don't know enough about the bml15 / EFS partition and how exactly it generally gets corrupted to be able to answer that but I lost my IMEI without flashing anything.
Flash stock ROM (odexed, not deodexed), UNROOT, and reset binary counter. Flashing and resetting through Odin 1.8x, unrooting through CWM, not stock recovery.
I thought it was described in (one of) the sticky threads.
Oh, and don't forget to remove your SIM and SD card !!!!
P.S.: Your IMEI is still under the battery.

yes and changing the imei is illegal
Take a look at Post #3 on this thread "Originally Posted by Doky73", it describes how to restore your lost IMEI number!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781191
Doky73 is the creator of the Galaxy Toolbox app so I would take an educated guess that he knows what he is talking about!
I would think that this would work on an S5830i because Galaxy Toolbox works and I can confirm that I have found my IMEI number at offset 0x80000 of the bml15.img.SAVE file.
Do this at your own risk obviously, I am only passing on information. As to what the technical legalities of it are I don't know quite frankly but obviously all you are doing here is restoring the phone's authentic IMEI number as opposed to changing it for a fake one.
Hope this helps those concerned!
Very useful to people who just corrupt their efs partition
Hi, I bought an unlocked galaxy ace S5830M a few months ago, and I rooted it as well so I can install a new ROM. I've read that I need to back up my EFS folder, but I found out it's empty. Is that normal? Do I need to backup anything at all if the phone came factory unlocked? I've looked for the answers, but couldn't find anything either here or on google that could tell me it was safe to install a new ROM. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi everyone, Im looking for a way to unlock my SGSA from my network. (mexican carrier TELCEL)
I've been searching for three days straight and I haven't come to a solution that:
1) Works for the SGSA
2) Is totally free
I know that for some Galaxy models there's a nv_data.bin bit flip thingy, trouble is, i can't seem to find that file in my /efs folder.
If there's a thread already about this that I might have missed, could you point it out to me?
thanks !

I don`t think methods from other samsung phones will work 1:1, because Advance has different modem chip than Exynos or Qualcomm phones. You have to hex edit nv_data.bin, but you can easily brick your modem so I don`t recommend this for you.
But if you really want do this, follow this steps.
1.Backup of nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5
2. Hex edit/modify nv_data.bin (don`t work on backup, create another copy for this)
3. After hexedit you need generate new md5 sum nv_data.bin.md5 . Without it modem won`t load modified nv_data.bin
4. Copy modified nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5 to phone, and then reboot.
5. If it work congratulation you unlocked your phone. If it doesn`t restore original nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5 and try again from step 2.

I had an LG G2 that it happened to. Something must have went wrong during the flash. Just happened. Nothing I did wrong, just happened. Started backing up EFS after that. Backed it up during initial flash of N6, save it to Gdrive. Haven't worried about EFS since.
