The firmware Works but you cant use 6906 LTE 700 band, because is hardware related.
the difference in z1 models are the LTE modem and the 6903 don't have the same as the 6906.

@mrled is correct, the LTE support differences between C69xx models is 100% hardware, so flashing other FTFs will not help.

In Canada, a C6903 will have limited LTE on Bell, full LTE on Rogers & Telus, but no LTE on mobilicity/SaskTel/Videotron/Wind. 2G/3G support is identical on all C69xx models.

It will only be a soft-brick, completely recoverable via flash mode (unless you do something stupid like run it low on battery or unplug the cable at the wrong time).

Do they use the same frequencies in Canada as in the US? In the US, they use 700/1700/2100, and I think 1700/2100 (band 4) is their primary (most widely deployed). If that's true for Canada as well, all four phones should work on LTE. Obviously, I have not tested this so I cannot be sure.

Flashing a 6906 to a 6916 for wifi calling feature
Hey Guys!
I bought a Sony Z1 last year (6906) Canada boot loader locked to use on T-mobiles LTE network and everything worked great, only issue was I lost my Wi-Fi calling feature on the new model as it was not directly from T-Mobile and really liked the feature.
I see that T-Mobile released an almost identical version (6916), only I think has more memory and less bands available.
I tried to pull the wifi .apk file off my original android phone to see if I could make it work, and would not install assuming brand specific of permissions related.
so, wanted to pick the forums brain and see if any one out there has done this, take the firmware for a T-mobile branded 6916 model ( I believe current version is 14.2.C.0.159, until new kit kat release comes out if and when of course ) and put it on the 6906 model so the wifi calling feature can work.
Bands look to be there, so hoping this could work unless someone had a reliable work around for the Wi-Fi calling ?
Please excuse my noobness, new to Z1 forum so any and all help greatly appreciated
Thanks for any help in advance!

I thought bands and signal reception were hardware related not software related.

Thanks for the link kchino. So it will work fine with AT&T with 3G speeds.
What about T-Mobile? Can anyone confirm if the device works with a T-Mobile Sim Card ?

Ok Guys from what i understand on the AT&T site. I Can only use my Unlocked smartphone by purchasing a prepaid Plan for 60$/mo and this will only offer a 1GB of Data! 1GB of Data isn't really Enough.
I might Just Get the C6602 Model. does the C6602 model get 4G or 3G on T-mobile Network ?

The problem is that the C6603 doesn't support HSDPA on 1700 or 1900. If you get the C6603 you would only get HSDPA if you happen to be in an area where AT&T offers HSDPA on 850. However, the C6603 may be able to use T-Mo LTE in the few areas that it's available.

Flashing bands doesn't give the phone frequency bands. It's a hardware thing, flashing bands from 02 to 03 doesn't do much as 03 bands are fixed.
You may bring up how come 03 can enable lte by flashing c6506 bands. Well the answer is that 03 has those bands to begin with, it just grant access for it to connect to certain frequencies.
In conclusion, it's a hardware chip, flashing bands doesn't give the phone frequency bands.

So the c6603 and c6602 and C6506 do not have the same bands in it internally/hardware wise? My understanding is that they do. I am on tmobile in the states with the c6603 and I am checking on here everyday looking for a us tmobile c6603 thread but all i see is the canadians working miracles across the border. Flashing 6506 baseband on 6603 in the states, I dont know will it work in the states. LTE frequencies/towers locations are different for every country and carrier. LTE isnt out at all locations, just cause one band is supported doesnt mean the other ones are supported.
Only way to find out if it works is to flash it and test it out.
It works for canadians cause most LTE used by carriers are 2100 and 2600.

If you flash a 6506 baseband to a 6603, will you gain 1700 and 2100 for HSPA+? Or is there a hardware limitation? Having support for HSPA+ and (possibly) LTE for Tmobile & AT&T in US is very appealing.
6602 has HSPA+ support but lacks LTE ability since it doesn't have the bands. Must be a hardware limitation.

c6903 will give you LTE speeds on T-mobile since it supports band 4 (1700mhz) for T-mobile's LTE ,if you go for c6906 you will get band 17 (700mhz) which is used by AT&T for their LTE, along with band 4 (1700mhz) so c6906 seems a better choice if you decide to swap t-mobile and at&t sim cards, also some users have been lucky to get get LTE by using at&t sim card on their c6903 model cause apparently at&t is starting to expand or at rare times uses 1700mhz spectrum for their LTE but i wouldn't bet much on it,700mhz is their prime spectrum for LTE.Hope this helps

[Q] C6906 baseband on C6903/C6943

Hello all!
I saw that Xperia Z owners got LTE working when they flashed Xperia ZL baseband on their devices... So I was thinking about:
LTE Bands for C6903 & C6943: 800 / 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1800 / 1900 / 2100 / 2600
LTE Bands for C6906: 700 / 850 / 900/ 1700 / 1900 / 2100 / 2600
My country (Brazil) have LTE working at 2600MHz on great cities, but roads and small cities will get 700MHz LTE (less expensive... bigger distance between cell sites and all that technical stuff).
I own a C6943, if I flash the baseband of C6906 on my Xperia Z1 will LTE works on both 700MHz and 2600MHz?

You can try it, but the physical modem may not be capable of (or calibrated for) the other frequencies.
It's safe to flash full FTFs - unless you interrupt it or let the battery die, the worst thing that will happen is a soft brick, which you can fix by re-flashing a working FTF. I have read about some people doing the opposite (accidentally flashing 6903 onto 6906, or 6902 onto 6903) and they only lost some channels or 4G, but were able to flash back.
This is a new device, you're probably just going to have to experiment.

i would really love to experiment, I just dont want to loose all my data and root :? there is no generic version of .534 for the c6906 which is exactly what I need to keep root and all my mods.

Since you have root, you can TiBu or use recovery to make a complete backup, mess around, then restore when you're done. Guess it'll come down to how much you want LTE
I have a C6906 and I've been looking for a generic 534 - it doesn't exist and probably never will. I've only seen the Rogers 534. Since 534, you can uninstall all their bloat anyway, good as you'll get.
I wouldn't worry about ftf breaking your phone if you flash the wrong version. I've mixed baseband with other region ftf before with my xperia ion. In order for lte to work, I need to keep the Rogers/North American baseband on my rogers xperia ion, but I flashed a generic nordic ftf (kernel and system only) in order to get jelly bean. Combination of best of both worlds.
The reason why the Z works with the ZL baseband is because both phones support 2600 and Rogers has the 2600 frequency but for whatever reason needs the setting from the the North American baseband for everything to work correctly. There must be something slightly different with international 2600 and north american 2600. I doubt 700 will work since the c6943 doesn't support it. Also dont forget (at least up here in Canada) you need both a LTE sim card and possibly new lte APN settings for LTE to work.
I dont think you need full ftf flash either... otherwise how would my xperia ion combo work? Also its running cyanogenmod at the moment... cyanogenmod is kernel and system only (it doesn't touch baseband). As long as you have the lte sim and correct lte apn it should just work.

Quick question about your idea, i want to flash a custom rom on my Z1 (the rom is 6903 based whereas my z1 is 6906). I already did and Lte works but signal is at least 2bars weaker than with 6906 rom. So what i can do is to flash a 6906 Tft, then flash over the 6903 rom while excluding baseband (to keep correct modem drivers/modules)?
Thanks for your feedback.

The true test would me someone flashing the C6906 baseband on C6903 and test if 700MHz LTE is working or not. I can't test it because here in my country 700MHz LTE isn't deployed yet.

I did that and got better LTE speeds (average 33.5 Mb) than on the standard C6943 or C6903 (17-25 Mb) FTFs.

The speed is relative, as I said, the TRUE test is make a C6903 or C6943 work on 700MHz LTE, which my country (Brazil) don't have (yet).
I understood that, just said that despite the "correct" and "tested" C6943 ajusts the C6906 baseband works better. I also live in Brazil and I know we won't see the 700 mhz band anytime soon as they'll only be auctioning it later this year.

True story. And most manufactures seems to be neglecting the fact that Brazil will have 4G at 700MHz in less than 2 years (in the current rhythm), I can't see even one LTE phone on Brazil that works on 700MHz and 2600MHz.
There are phones that works on both bands (like C6906 or D6503 from Sony, Asian version of HTC One (M8), one version of Lumia 1520), but these models aren't the models sold on Brazil.

Yeah, I've got my eyes on the HTC One (M8) if for some reason the Z1 stops being good enough, but getting the asian model won't be so easy as the us or europe variants would be. If I'm not mistaken the only phone sold in Brazil that sported the 700Mhz band was the iPhone 5 and that only served to make people whine about no (local) 4G in the device lifespan.
Xperia Z1 (C6943) + CM12 = No LTE
Need help. Have a Xperia Z1 (C6943) with Official CyanogenMod 12 and can't get 4g connection.
Have already played with the network configurations without success. Tested my simcard in a Xperia Z2 with Sony firmware and it got 4g connection.
Don't know what else to try and don't wanto to move back to Sony's firmware.
Any ideas?

C5306 - No 3G/LTE on T-Mobile

I live in Sacramento, CA and it's supposedly a refarmed city, meaning it uses 1900Mhz spectrum on T-Mobile for 3G. So I bought a C5306 for my wife, however the 3G isn't working, all we get is EDGE. Naturally I thought I'd at least get LTE, since it's advertised as an LTE phone but I'm not getting that either, even though we have LTE in my area. What's the deal? Has anyone else had this issue? In the phone settings I have it setup to receive LTE/GSM/WCDMA in that order but it doesn't seem to help.
The 5306 claims to have the right bands...
HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
LTE 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100
I'm calling lies on either Sony or T-Mobile...

It's a 5306. Otherwise it wouldn't have LTE listed in the baseband options when you type *#*#4636#*#*
EDIT - I take that back, I guess the 5303 does also have LTE, but different bands. God I hope it's not a 5303, how can you tell? Different ROMs come from different bases and depending on the ROM you install it'll say 5306 or 5303. The stock ROM that came installed on it said 5306, but I installed another custom one and it now says 5303, ugh.
Holy ****, not only do I have the wrong phone, I think I was defrauded in the process. This is a 5303 that was sold as a 5306. The seller just flashed 5306 firmware on top to make it look like a 5306. The picture below shows that it has the 5303 bands (1,3,5,7,8,20) and not the 5306 ones (1,2,4,5).
Does it say C5303 at Model Info? Or on the Box? If yes get your bud to the store

It says whatever firmware you put on it. The C5303 and C5306 firmware are interchangeable. Hence why I think they can sell them as "C5306" phones. This was on ebay, by the way. The only way you can tell is to look at what bands the phone supports, which I did above, you do that by typing *#*#7378423#*#* in the dialer and then going to Configuration in the Service Menu.
i have a c5306 i checked the bands. Anyways i am using it on att and i get h+ but no lte any ideas?
