Hi,
So, I went and bought the Razr I phone, despite the language question was hard to me.
But anyway, now I have other hard issue: How to transfer files between the phone and a WinXp computer, when there is no "Mass storage" option in USB computer connection on the phone.
The "Media device (MTP)" mode seems not to work with XP, but "Camera (PTP)" works. But I can see only DCIM and Pictures folders from the computer.
I'm not sure, where they are even located: on the phones internal memory or on the memory card (there is 8gb micro-sd).
An interesting feature was, that when the phone was connected to Win7 pc in camera-mode, I could see the both memory spaces and all the folders.
Why can't I see the folders on XP? The phone is with the stock ROM (81.5.39001.XT890.Retail.en.GB / Android 4.0.4).
And why there is not "Mass storage"-option despite my old Defy with CM9 and the same Android 4.0.4 version had the option.
Edit. Solution - see post #8
For a long time I didn't use XP but I assume You need to install whole driver pack to see MTP on XP. I suggest to look for mod to enable Mass Storage Mode on Razr I. I saw this mod somewhere here but completely don't remember haw it was named.
I could find only one driver package from Motorola: Motorola Device Manager 2.4.5
But that didn't help. After connecting the phone with USB-cable, my pc recognizes the phone, but then requires a MTP driver.
Weird that no driver-CD did not come with the phone original package.

It is this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297888. Works really good.
But if you are on 4.0.4 You can find on this forum mod of the framework with USB mass storage enabled.
But you have to be rooted.
Yes, the phone is on stock 4.0.4 version as I have owned it just few days.
The phone suggested an update (91.2.29001.en.GB), but I didn't update. I was happy with CM9 4.0.4 version in my Defy, and same version seems to run smoothly on Razr I too. And by the update, I would possibly loose the FM radio function.
Hopefully the mod on this forum is easily described, I'm a low-level rookie with customizing Android. However is was delightful to install CM9 to my Defy with good instructions on this forum.

You can try this one method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2005541
or this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2040933
Make a back up at first.
I've just found, that there are some MTP drivers for WinXP:
Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit and then Windows Media Player 11 (which includes the driver)
Lets see if one of them work first. Otherwise I have to say goodbye to the phones warranty.
Edit. Case solved. I installed Media Player 11 and then selected Motorola USB Composite Device driver in WinXP device manager for the phone.
Now it works, despite not so simply as USB mass storage option did. I'll spare the warranty so far if something comes ahead.
Thanks for help.
Don't worry about warranty. In this days You can root without bootloader unlock and use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297888. Yesterday I tried to download 7GB of movies from my RAZRi card by MTP and when I saw transfer speed around 1MB/s exactly the same as on WiFi I searched some and this is easiest working way for USB Mass Storage.

Hi all,
I've just updated my phone to Cyanogen 7.1 stable, the phone is now smooth and functional so I'm happy with it, even though there are some small problems.
One of which is that I cannot download Tegra games anymore, the market tells me "your device is not compatible" and blocks me from downloading the app, the weird thing is that if I go to the market from my pc it tells me that my phone is compatible with the app!
This happens for ALL the Tegra specific games, like "Galaxy on Fire", "Bang Bang Racing", "Pinball HD for Tegra" and so on. I bought two of them before the update, so I'm pissed off by not being able to play them
Any idea on how to solve this issue?
Hi.
First of all I'm not quite answering your question because I don't know.
BUT, I recommend you install a CM 7.2 Kang build instead - they are better than stable with many many fixes. I don't know if that issue is fixed there or not though. Many more people are currently (here on xda) running the Kangs than base CM 7.1 so more will be able to help I believe (unless this is a known issue, I don't know simply because I never bothered with Tegra stuff on my phone).
I use temasek's build of Kang from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421425 .
// Stefan
Uhm... My problem is that one of the problems that I've got is that I cannot connect my phone to the pc via usb so I find it very hard to update my phone now as here I don't have a card reader to put a rom on the micro sd!
Thank you for the hint however, as soon as I'll solve these problems I'll definitely try that build!
Hi.
That is indeed a problem but you should be able to put the file on a webserver somewhere and download it using your phone, then copy it to the SD.
// Stefan
However cwm allows to mount usb storage under "mounts and storage" and you can insert your rom into internal sd and flash from it
Happened to me a few times on the CM7 Kang, tegra games showed "not compatible" from the phones android market. But after i browsed the Android Market from my PC (with my google account signed in) i could just click Install from the webpage and it pushed the installation to my phone.
Short version : phone market shows not compatible, PC market allows you to install.
if you don't have a usb cable or it's hard to connect your phone to the PC, just use DropBox and send files from your pc to your phone over WiFi. There are also other easy solutions like phone in WiFi FTP server and you just upload files to it. But again, if you don't have a usb cable, you need a WiFi network or good data plan
Oh, thanks guys, but I solved my "problem"... I had an old version of the drivers installed Now I can connect the phone through usb
For the game... I'll try the "install" via my pc...
Oh, I was nearly forgetting... the weird thing that I noticed is that in the settings menu the processor is "ARMv7 rev 0(v7I)" but the phone is equipped with a Cortex A9... maybe that is the problem?
ARM V7 and Cortex A9 are not the same thing i'd recommend you check you pages 6-9 http://www.nvidia.com/docs/IO/90715/Tegra_Multiprocessor_Architecture_white_paper_Final_v1.1.pdf. That really cleared up a lot of stuff for me
eh, I know
So that can actually be the problem! But I guess it's only a matter of naming, because tegra games play properly, if they were using the ARM7... I don't even want to think about it!
btw, the "download through the website" worked! thank you!
Hello folks,
I'm facing this "please insert a disk" issue when connecting my Note to computer via USB Debugging mode / Mass Storage Mode.
I'll let screenshots in the attachment explain itself. #1 shows the screenshot of devices menu when the phone is plugged into the computer in DEBUG mode; #2 shows the screen after I've clicked "connect USB storage" from the drop-down list of the phone; #3 shows what happens when I try to open one of the two "removable disks".
MTP mode works fine, as well as Kies connection. As I finally started exploring the potential of Android platform, I realized that MTP and Kies connection are the most useless connection options for me, and I'd rather leave it in debug mode all day. So has anybody experienced this issue, or had any suggestion on the solution?
As always, many thanks in advance, and many thanks button clicks afterward!
p.s.,
Desktop OS: Win7 Pro X64 SP1
Note: 2.3.6 Stock LB1 Open Germany Firmware, CF rooted LB1 kernel.
Also, I should have all the latest official device driver from Samsung, as I have the latest version of Kies installed (and I discovered a driver folder under Kies' installed location). I'm not so sure about adb driver, but I was able to find the Note to be listed under devices by typing "adb devices". So.. I don't know where could've gone wrong.
Help anyone?
This really sounds weird... I was facing problems of the Galaxy Note not being detected on several Windows7 32/64-Bit SP1 computers as well but this was gone after I installed SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.
You are right - from all that i know all required drivers should be available when KIES is installed on your system. Whatis even more strange is that your device seems to be detected as two partitions are available and are displayed in Explorer...
So I would test the following:
- check if your device manager lists any unknown devices
- Uninstall KIES and try to find the SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones and install those
- check all available USB ports and see if this solves the problem
- try another USB cable
- make sure your (external) SD card is formatted with a Windows compatible file-system e.g. FAT32
Hope this is helpful and helps solving your problem.
Thanks for your reply!
My device manager basically listed all the drivers/devices associated with the phone:
My Device manager shows devices:
Samsung Android Composite ADB interface
Android UMS Composite USB device (x2)
SAMSUNG Android USB Modem
USB Mass Storage Device
USB Mass Storage Device (Android)
I've attached the screenshot when all the drivers being installed when the phone is firstly connected to the computer. Also in the device manager, everything shows "this device is working properly"
I then decided to test with another Note of my friend's (On the same computer). Her Note has no SD card in it, and is completely stock ROM non-rooted LA4 Open Germany firmware. The same thing happened.
One thing worth mentioning: Yesterday, this worked only for once. When I initially encountered this issue, I restarted my computer, and boom, my phone was connected in Debugging mode! However, once disconnected, and I tried to connect it to the computer again, this issue came back. And afterward, no matter how I restart my computer, the phone won't get connected.
I also tried all USB port (USB 2.0 and 3.0), three different cables (2 of them are Samsung OEMs) and failed to address the issue.
I'm nearly exhausted but I will never give up, as this is my only computer and my only phone (haha), and without solving this issue, I'm never gonna be able to view the phone as a USB storage and easily transfer the file from my computer to the phone.
I'm going to try the last thing that I haven't done from the list you posted:
- Uninstall KIES and try to find the SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones and install those
I believe that I can keep the driver folder in the Kies' folder, as I believe those are the newest Samsung driver, given that the Kies was the latest release version.
So far, I can only conclude that this issue is not related to specific phone but the Windows 7.
And thank you for your help btotaku!
If anyone has any insight into this issue, please help me. Thumbs up for you!
BTW, I was able to extract both SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe from under Kies' installation path under Program Files x86 folder, and an uncompressed folder of all kinds of drivers for Samsung device, called "USB Drivers".
And looks like I was wrong. The newest version of SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones I had was 1.4.8. While the driver that came with the newest Kies was 1.4.103
I'll post back soon

is that your internal memory or the sd card?

That's the last thing I would do
here simple application that will enabled UMS mode for External sdcard
root needed.
how to use:
safe way on version 2.5 is :
enable UMS Mode when cable usb is unplug
Back to Charge mode when cable usb is unplug
safe way on version 3.0 is :
do it on condition usb plugged
note:
if you plug into player or some device player , and you found that it cannot found the USB drive
in this case just do this
settings -> connectivity -> usb connection type
and do press or repress the "Charge Only"
in version 3.0 you will notice 1 triangle on task bar, its normal , it telling you mass storage is currently unmount
2 icon on task bar is telling you the mass storage successful unmount you can take it out
those of notice are normal if we do unmount the mass storage in android api level.
all the information about how to do it i found on XDA forum.
i do some research also code this app
version 2.1
fix sometime fail to mount back to external_sd folder
version 2.5
fix sometime got to bluescreen on windows
version 3.0
fix bluescreen on windows
using different approach to unmount the external SD card
version 3.2
bring back native method to mount and unmount, its speed up abit when using native method
by check the box to enable native mode
version 3.3
support Jelly Bean
thanks are goes to XDA Members

Version 2.1 gives reproducible blue screens with Win7 x64 SP1 at the first link when I confirm the superuser, or in further tries, when connect the USB cable.
Only uninstalling the apk helps to solve the problem.
A little off topic:
After UMS_mode.apk does not work for me, here is another way to access both memory cards in the P880 (and any other Android-Device) from Windows OS:
Install Total Commander (Shareware): http://www.ghisler.com
Install Total Commander Plugin "Android ADB" (Freeware): http://www.totalcmd.net/plugring/android_adb.html
Android device driver has to be installed too!
Through links, both SD-Cards appear with 3 differen pathes in the P880 operating system.
The external SD-Card has its mount point in (!) the internal SD-card:
Code:
Internal SD-Card:
\\\ADB\LG-P880\data\media\
\\\ADB\LG-P880\mnt\sdcard\
\\\ADB\LG-P880\sdcard\
2. external SD-Card:

\\\ADB\LG-P880\mnt\sdcard\external_sd\
\\\ADB\LG-P880\sdcard\external_sd\

Wow!
This is the greatest thing created for this phone so far.
MTP is painfully slow, doesn't work with cars/stereos/etc, requires installing drivers everywhere I go, crashes all the time, doesn't allow access with a file path, and somehow caused my sd card to wipe itself three times in two weeks, so this was a major issue for me that was making me regret buying the phone.
Initially after installing this app (v3.0), I had to repeatedly toggle UMS/MTP mode and plug/unplug my phone from the computer several times before it finally started working, but now it's perfect.
If you have a paypal or flattr link, and I'll send something your way. Or put it on the Play Store so I can buy it and update
Thanks!
thanks

I can not confirm unfortunately.
I wanted to give the app still a second chance and have installed 3.0.
Then I restarted the phone, without starting the APP before.
Now it hangs on startup LG boot logo.
Even without the second SD card the same problem.
Any idea without factory reset or flashing KDZ?
My phone is still stuck in boot, but I have an access via adb shell to system.
Unfortunately I have no permission to access "/data"
Could anyone tell me the aplication name of this UMS-Tool under "/data/data" ?
I only found "com.noshufou.android.su" in classes.dex, but don't know wether this is right:
Code:
[email protected]:/data $ run-as com.noshufou.android.su
run-as com.noshufou.android.su
run-as: Package 'com.noshufou.android.su' is unknown
[email protected]:/data $
Ok, I guess it's not quite working perfectly for me now that I've used it a bit more, but I still love it.
1) it's really tricky to get it working initially. I almost always have to toggle it multiple times and sometimes reconnect the usb cable.
2) like someone else mentioned, it never remounts the SD card so I have to restart the phone to get it working again after I'm done.
I have not had any problems on boot like BudCord.
I'm running stock firmware 10f.
Anyone have v3 hosted any where else? I can't download from media fire.. no captcha support..
Tried stock browser, dolphin, and chrome..
Any chance to get it working on mac os x (10.6.8) ?
For the moment it is the only default i found with this phone : the lack of "connections" with Apple's OS :/
PS : I searched on the web and I found a solution for Mac OS X users : Android File Transfer (on the official website).
Sorry I can not the url because I am new on this forum.
I just upgraded to JB 4.1.2 and notice that the phone will no longer automatically mount the sdcards in Windows 7 Explorer. I got used to simply connecting a USB cable and "GT-N7000" would appear in the list of drives in Explorer. Could this be someting to do with the ROM itself? The stock one for my phone is not available yet to compare.
Does anyone know of an app that will do this that works on this ROM? I've tried several but none of them seem to do what they claim.
I know I can use an apps such as MyPhoneExplorer (phone client) and PC app but this involves as many buttone and key presses as doing it natively on the phone.
Galaxy Note GT-N7000
Android version 4.1.2
Baseband N7000XXLS3 Ultimate JellyBean 4.1.2 v4
Kernel version 3.0.31-422420
Thanks in ad vance
Trevor
I believe this is a bug with the leaked JB, ive seen several similar issues regarding charging / mounting / storage, Basically everything that requires USB.
I too suffer from this occasionally but im a ubuntu user.
Have you tried multi-mount - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rafoid.multimountsdcard.widget&hl=en
Thats the paid version ^^ there is a lite (free) version which does the job, It also has option for auto mount when usb is connected.
Thank you. Yes, I tried MultiMount but couldn't get it to work. Spent a fruitless hour fiddling around with it. Would have been happy to buy the paid app if it had.
Basically, all I'm looking for is to automate the "USB Connected/Turn on USB storage" function of JB when I plug in a USB cable. It works fine right now but too many things to swipe and click on to get there.
Do you use MTP or Mass Storage ? If you go to settings > more > usb utilities, It should have option to change.
If you use MTP it will will automatically mount when connected, With mass storage you must manually mount it.
Alternatively just quick search google for android auto mount
There's a ton of apps / tricks to do this, Not sure if they work on JB yet but worth a try, Ive never used anything like that so i cannot confirm which ones work and which dont.
This is giving me a major headache right now. I've plugged the phone into the computer via USB to transfer some files, like I do every now and then, but now I can't because it doesn't show up as a drive anymore, and on the phone, the options seem to have changed.
This used to work perfectly fine before. I can only narrow it down to the recent official OTA upgrade to Android 4.2.2. I need mass storage mode for a few things, e.g. my music player on Windows (Media Monkey) syncs with the phone, but now of course it won't recognize it anymore.
What is going on?
- Windows 7 64bit
- Android 4.2.2 stock official OTA un-rooted, un-everything, vanilla
- HTC Sense 5.0
Thanks guys.

It doesnt get mounted as a drive (and never did), it shows up as an MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) device. Open "Computer" on Windows and at the bottom it will show "MTP Devices", under that there will be your phone.
If it's not, then maybe you need to update HTC drivers, and check your "Device Manager" if the phone shows up correctly under "Android USB Device"
Thanks for the insight - you put me on the right track, and I got it to work now.
It showed up in the device manager, but with an error like you suggested. Unplugging the phone or switching USB debugging on and off hadn't helped (tried that a dozen times before I posted). When I checked the device manager, asking Windows to update the driver via web didn't work out either.
So I unplugged, rebooted both the phone and Windows, and plugged in again. After that, it installed some driver automatically - it worked this time, and now it works again as before. It shows in Explorer / xplorer2 / MediaMonkey as a portable device and I can use it like a drive and drag&drop files. That's what I meant by "drive", thanks for clearing that up ha.
Thank you!
