[Q] In call volume is very low in cm11 - LG Optimus 4X HD

After a quick search I've found that a lot of other people are experiencing the same problem on other phones. I opened this thread because no one has reported this problem yet on a LG p880.
I've flashed the latest cm11 nightly and will continue to do so every day. The version I am running now is 11-20140115-NIGHTLY-p880.
After a clean restart outgoing calls work normally. After a couple of outgoing calls in call volume drops dramatically (I can barely hear the ringing tone before the other person picks up and then I can barely hear the other person talk). Incoming calls work normally. The problem continues until I restart my phone or I get an incoming call. Then the same happens all over again, first two - three calls work normally then in call volume drops.
I've tried making calls with and without a Bluetooth device and with and without the stock dialer. I've also tried merging calls and putting calls on hold after I call but the volume problem persists until I restart the phone or I receive an incoming call.
I will continue to update this thread as I flash nightly updates daily.
Thanks for your help

Problem persists
I installed version 11-20140116-NIGHTLY-p880. Problem persists.

I have a workaround for this. When you start feeling that the volume is low, I first press the vol down button few times and then press the vol up button multiple times till I hear the voice properly.
Let me know if it works for you. But definitely this is a problem for all of us.

Hi and thanks for the reply. Tried to do what you described but it didn't work for me. Maybe I am doing something wrong. When the problem appears its even before the other person picks up so I can hear the ringing tone at a really low volume. I tried turning the volume down a bit and then turning it all the way up like you said but no luck...
I am now downloading the latest cm11 nightly, I hope this will be fixed soon.

Just installed 11-20140118-NIGHTLY-p880. In call volume problem is still there.

Installed 11-20140120-NIGHTLY-p880. Problem is still there. The only workaround that works for me so far is calling myself. After the busy message I get, in call volume is fine again for two - three calls. Then the same thing happens all over again.

Flashed cm-11-20140121-NIGHTLY-p880. Problem still there.
Any workarounds anyone?

Flashed cm-11-20140122-NIGHTLY-p880. There is improvement worth mentioning. As soon as the new rom booted up I went to check the in call volume with outgoing calls. The third continuous call I made had really low in call volume so I was immediately disappointed. Then I made another call and in call volume was back to normal, something that would not happen in previous roms. Then I made another 5 calls and on the 6th the volume was low again. Since then though every call I've made has normal in call volume (one day / 20 calls).
This was a huge improvement. Will flash cm-11-20140123-NIGHTLY-p880 and see how it goes.

Flashed cm-11-20140123-NIGHTLY-p880 and then cm-11-20140124-NIGHTLY-p880. With the latter I've made numerous outgoing calls and I've only had low in call volume once. I'd say the cm developers have found whats wring and are slowly fixing it.

I've tried a workaround using sony xloud. It is known to increase in call volume.Works fine so far, pretty sure it increased mine.It also has clear audio, which is supposed to reduce noise when volume is too loud. (tested on latest nightly)
Make sure you thank the OP in this thread.I could never download that ZIP via pimpmyrom app, guess the servers are down.
Also make sure you thank this member for creating the flashable zip & wonderful app
Installation instructions :
Flash the zip via recovery, wipe dalvik cache and reboot.

Thank you for your reply. The latest rom I've flashed is cm-11-20140215-NIGHTLY and it works fine. There have not been any occurrences where in call volume was low, with or without Bluetooth..
Thank you all for your help, I consider this problem solved for the p880.

The problem is not solved. It is back with vengeance since the beginning of July. I have not gone back to a June build to check if it works.
Any workarounds please.

I am making a wild guess have you installed any call recording app which is running in background, this may be the problem.
In Call Speaker Problem
Its a New Unit have not installed any applications till now. what about you people how is the volume in outdoor.
i had the same problem a few time since js5 firmware. an interesting thing is, that im using a voodoo kernel with every firmware since js5 and perhaps this causes this problem to european devices ?!...

[Q] Microphone volume very low while phoning

Hi everyone,
I'm experiencing problems with the volume of my microphone when I'm in a call.
The persons at the other end of the call can only hear me very silent.
The problems are only exists with the standart phone app, when I'm using a third party app (like sipdroid) my volume is fine...
I'm using Cyanogen 7.0.3 on my Nexus One
Is there a fix for this Problem?
With the stock ROM I don't have this problems but I need a ROM with trackball wake because my power button fails.
I can't RMA my Phone to HTC right now, because I'll be not at home in the next three weeks. Therefore I need my mobile phone with me.
I'd use an other ROM which has TB wake support and no microphone issues but at a quick glance through the forums I couldn't find a suiting one.
Thanks for your efforts to help me
hey, i have a similar problem but i noticed that using different kernel affect the microphone. I'm a noob to this so im not entirely sure if kernel is related to microphone.
Well basically im running miui rom 1.5.6 right now and i was using redstar kernel 38.4 and then i upgraded it to redstar kernel 38.5. Then i called my girlfriend and she could barely hear me. Then i reverted back to 38.4 and she hears me now much louder but not the clarity isn't as good.
You using DT a2sd by any chance?
Damn, my phone froze today at work and I had to pull the battery.
Now I can't power it on again due to the not working power button...
Battery trick doesn't work either.
So I guess I have to take the bitter pill and RMA it right now.
Holy sucks! What's the battery trick...just incase.
Can anyone suggest any 'good' solution? kernel or otherwise to fix this $#@$# 'bug' of low in-call volume in Nexus One??
Would really appreciate all the help!
If people hear you very quiet - look up the mod to disable noise cancellation. If the problem will disappear with noise cancellation disabled - it means your 2nd mic is faulty and needs replacement.

Nope, people hear me well. Its that I cannot hear well. Specially in traffic, I usually tell them that I shall call them back
Any help?
Look up Gingerbread volume control app in Development forum. It can override the system settings and make the volume much louder than the maximum stock, AFAIK.
Thanks, but this app is not working for everyone AFAIK.

Some calls are quiet cm7 nightly glitch jvs baseband

Hi, some incoming calls are silent for me, the other side can understand me anyway.
Calls, which i understand, are way too loud. Reflashed the jvs modem through rom manager. Did not solve anything.
Glitch supports voodoo, may be this is causing the problem of the loudness?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Are you saying that even if you turn the volume all the way up, it's still too quiet?
it is completely silent. Dont want to say muted, because that would probably indicate a problem with my phone speaker. But its not. It is like there is no call accepted. It happens randomly i think. and even if i turn on the speaker or plug in a headset the problem still exists.
Calls which i am able to answer, are too loud. This one belongs to voodoo i think or other sound related settings.
additional info: live in Europe, had same issues with several other Roms (ie myICS, where they told me to reflash my modem)

Known issue, if you put the call on hold and unhold you will get sound back. If you want to help solve it, you should go back to stock kernel and post pastebin link to logcat and kmsg in the cm7 nightly thread.
Edit: nvm you are on MIUI. You will only get flamed if you post anything from that ROM in cm7 thread :O

Can't wake up phone if some processes are running

Hello.
I am using IceDroid V4 with Zargloub's kernel g7b652eb. And my main problem is: if some processes are running (like downloading/uploading, playing music, phone calling etc.) and phone had gone to suspend, it is impossible to wake up it, untill all this processes will be stoped. Why is this problem still not fixed?
And another problem - sometimes my mic doesn't work. Sometimes, work perfectly. Why is this?
Sorry for bad English.

the problem with microphone, does it happen when you want to call somebody or receive a call?
you can activate speaker and disable it, than it works or you can try to push the vol up down button than it should work. I just can say that the first option with speaker is working. haven't tried the second one.
I tried your methods, enabled/disabled speaker and mic, changed volume by volume keys. But my mic still not work. My mother are angry. (Only she call me, and I must recall she from my another phone (se z530 =) everytime),
Problems begins after firs reboot with latest kernel. Before thet, mic works fine. And after that, it worked ony one time. I reflashed phone, tried 20th feb. kernel, but nothing changed. Can kernel damage mic?
UP. After updating to the 7th icedroid I still have problem with mic. I had not that on the first Zargloub's rom flash. So, I am thinking what my problem connected to drivers, because when mic enabled, others hear noise, and when mic disabled, there are no any sounds. Or my mic really dead?
You tried a different rom? If the problem then still excists your mic might be dead, if it works it might be a bad installation or kernel related maybe?

Microphone cutting out during Speakerphone calls

Dear all,
As stated in the subject line, I am experiencing issues with the mic while on speaker. So this is happening whenever I used the speakerphone. It will work fine(ie the other side can hear me talk) but after awhile, it will stop working(the other side cannot hear). I will then have to take it off speaker and put it back on. That seems to work. This happens during normal mobile calls and also whatsapp calls. Unfortunately, when trying to record something with Audio Recorder, I haven't hit that issue, and it was recording for more than 4 minutes.
Has anybody else run into this problem? I am running a completely stock Note 5 out of the box, on 5.1.1.
Thanks in advance!
Best,
Ben

Same issue here, I'm using note 5 duos N9208 64gb. Please somebody help us...I think is some software issue
Edited my other post, putting the information here where it belongs. I found out how to replicate this bug on a SM-N920I with Android 5.1.1 thanks to a rooted ROM, 3.10.95-SkyHigh_TW_v3.9 UpInTheAir #1.
Turning on speaker AFTER a call connects mutes your own microphone, with no subsequent fix by turning on/off speaker during that call.
Turning on speaker BEFORE a call connects (i.e. you have to make the call) does not mute your microphone.

hi
Found your issue interesting and decided to test according to your theory (set out above )
As i use speaker quite a lot when making calls.
Firstly i have a N920 C , not rooted ,stock Rom .Tested calls speaker (numerous times ) with my Note5 and Note 3 .
Repeated , test after call connects and before calls connect etc etc .
.Well i was relieved , that speaker works 100% .No issues.
So its seems to me,
your bug could be limited to certain Roms or software ..? or did you perhaps use Package Disabler to disable some processes and now have a knock on effect ...no ?
hope you can sort issue out .!
Good luck .
Thanks for your reply and thank you for testing it out! I didn't use Package Disabler at all. I'm trying to find out how to go back to Stock ROM, but the baseband version of N920IDVU2AOKC is hard to find and I have, too late, stupidly realized I don't know how I can do it without having the stock ROM to start with.
Edit: Google is my friend. Samsung-firmware website...
Edit 2: Google is NOT my friend. That was a premium cash grabbing page. Link removed.
Edit 3: Google can be my sometimes buddy. http://www.galaxynote5update.com/ga...firmware-australia-and-new-zealand-singapore/
Edit 4: Fine. I'll use Smart Switch since nothing else is not pay locked. :|
Same issue with MM rom...
